What would happen if I deleted the data in my fire prime photo and fire launcher apps? My device is a kindle fire 5th gen 7 running Fire OS 5.4.0.0 .
Pretty much nothing. If you are registered to Amazon, your info is on the cloud. The data will just pile up again. About the only way to at least limit the effect is to install a firewall and begin manually deleting the data of each app. I use NetGuard. If you buy the log and filter options (one time fee), you can block host names and manually block IPs that apps try to connect to. I believe 'Lock Down' is free. While setting everything up, you can immediatly stop all apps from using the internet, and choose which ones can and cant access it by selecting 'Allow In Lock Down Mode' from the drop down menu of each app in the list.
If you are a little more tech savvy and know how your way around IP ranges, you can block entire ranges manually with NoRoot Data Firewall. I started with this one, but I grew more attached to NetGuard.
Savvytech... and I have been experimenting trying to somehow 'break' an Amazon app. (I was successful only once. Somehow managed to delete ALL app data and it's stored data, including system apps. Haven't been able to repeat the process yet.)
Until then, aside from shutting off WiFi, and a firewall, you're stuck. However Brevent does a good job at killing and "disabling" most of Amazon's apps, until reboot. That's where I found Autorun Manager came in handy. It stops a good portion of Amazon's apps from booting when you power on, allowing Brevent to try and stop them from running once boot completes. Be advised though, with Brevent, you have to run a code through ADB every time you reboot the device. It gives you instructions upon installation.
Another tool, good to clean app cache and other junk, All In One Toolbox. It will at some point ask for Accessibility access. To save it the trouble, go to Settings, Accessibility, Scroll to bottom, Select 'All In One', confirm selection. Amazon won't let you give it 'Usage Access', so you will need to install Activity Launcher. I made a thread here, where you can get some detailed steps. Open it, tap drop down at top left. Select 'All Activities.' Scroll to 'Settings' and tap it. Scroll to 'Apps With Usage Access'. Select 'All In One'. Disable access to any of the listed Amazon apps or services if you like. I have for quite sometime so I don't think any harm comes to it. Probably just irritate Amazon's servers a bit more.
Given the firewall, Autorun and Brevent, at any given time, I never have more than 8 to 10 Amazon services or apps running, All In One controls memory pretty well, but sometimes you are better off force stopping apps yourself. Brevent will eventually be able to tell you which apps will auto start. It will be able to disable their background processes, but not their main ones.
Thanks! I'll try yo use the info, got a lot to learn".Thanks again!
To DragonFire1024 , I have installed netguard, no root data firewall ,brevent , all in one toolbox, activity launcher, and auto run manager. I also have the permission remover apks and the testkey.pk8 and testify.x509.pen files in my apk storage folder. Have been playing around with them ( the apps ) and have had some success. I can now see data dropping for a change! I'm still have not done everything you suggested - have to get funds in to buy the paid versions,
but what I' be done so far has helped a lot. No root firewall is what I'm using now ( as is ) - was blocked but got in the second time in activity launcher removed the app usage of the apps you suggested. I am having a bit of trouble with Brevent - I have not learned how to find and use the command line on my PC.Need to get a bit more tech savvy so I can get root access on my fire when it becomes available. Til then I'll push on! Pardon my writing skills, are not so good. Thanks again for helping! I'll be back soon, maybe I can give a few more details next time.
I have been trying to start Brevent - found command line on windows PC, tried entering commands but PC will not respond found and downloaded windows platform tools zip, extracted but I'm still stuck.what next?( I downloaded platform tools on my kindle fire 5th gen. , running fire OS 5.4.0.0 )

Was so looking forward to this. I have some books in Archive that simply fail to download to the HT7, others can take ages to download. Tried removing the app, de-registering on Amazon and re-installing, same issue. Anyone else seeing this ?
Ian
So far my books haved synced fine over Wi-fi. Are you using Wi-Fi or 3G? Do you get any error message?
I'm only attempting this over the WiFi network, it eventually gives up and says failed to download, try again.
The only real possible causes for failed downloads would be loosing wireless connection or Closing the application before the download has completed.
Well I thought this but the iPhone beside me downloads fine over wifi as do my various laptops with the Kindle app installed.
Maybe try de-registering and uninstalling/Reinstalling one more time? Don't know what else to suggest fella.
This is off the amazon website hence why i've quoted it.

Case opened with Amazon Kindle Support
Please keep us apprised of the situation.

Hate to cross post, but I'm having a similar issue on my android device (nook color), as well as two windows pc's. I don't think this issue is isolated to one platform.
Thanks for info. Amazon are still investigating this issue
solved the same problem
I had the same problem. I accessed my app manager and changed the kindle app location from phone to sd card. After that all my queued books downloaded. I think the problem was not enough memory on my phone, or reserved memory on the phone and kindle auto DLs to location the app is installs. (could be wrong, but solved the problem anyway) hope this helps
I have been using Android since the G1 launched, I took one break from it about a year ago to give the Nokia N9 a try (great phone, poor battery life). I am considering switching to Windows Phone 8 (Lumia 920) after it launches. There are two apps that are really important before I make the switch though.
- LBE Security Equivalent. This is a 'firewall', but for application permissions. You can have it prompt you that application 'x' is trying to read from contact data, for instance. If something this exact isn't readily available, is there at least a network based permission firewall? Some applications are fine to use, but I don't necessarily want them to connect to the internet.
- Tasker. This is the bigger of the two that I need to have. If you're unfamiliar with it, Tasker lets you change any device settings, based on any other condition. E.g., if it's between 8am-5pm and I can see the wireless network, "Work", then put the phone on silent... if it doesn't meet those conditions put it back on loud. Very basic example, but I need something like this because it makes my life a lot easier.
I searched around and couldn't find anyone really talking about either of these options too much, can anyone help me out?
Neither one of them is possible with the current SDK, maybe when wp8 pops up.
Windows Phone does not allow any Apps to interfere with System Settings or other Apps. All Apps are sandboxed with only certain interaction points to exchange data or embed themselves into the Hubs. Having looked through the leaked SDK this is not changing with WP8, although there are additional interaction possibilities other Apps functioning as well as system settings are still off limits.
You can look at what permissions certain Apps request before installing them but the only thing youncan do then is to decode not to install them (aside from using background processing and using location data - those can be configured separately).
Hi Folks
Before we start , A bit of background as I've been reading these forums and I am aware how some may find this a contenious subject, So before anyone goes accusing me of any illegality let me say I have a Kindle Fire 2 and Kindle Fire HD, both in demomode as they were acquired from the Comet UK Firesale after the company went bankrupt late last , Unfortunately I don't think the staff where that dedicated to customer service at that point.
Right Down to business - So in the doing the research the obviously the Factory Cable Method and that's about it isn't it? I thought I have a little play around as my solder skills aren't the great.
The Firmware on the Device is 10.0.2.A I'd expect this to work on earlier firmware, Later ones however I'm not so sure, The Aforementioned Fire HD which I also have has had the Final Part of the process I'm going to describe fixed.
What You Need: Your Fingers and A Wifi network you can connect to!
1. Boot The Fire, Touch To Try The Fire and Run.
2. With the device in Potrait, Press in the search box , three options should appear below the search box ( Libraries , Stores and Web )
3. Press Web. I was the informed I had no network connection, and very nicely asked "If I wished to sign in?"
4. Press the Wireless Settings button which should take you to the wireless network settings. where you can configure a network
5. Download an apk file, any apk file will do , google code have lot, and I've heard this other site, I think it begins with an X They also have a couple
6. Pull the Nofication Bar Down, You should have a notification that the download is complete, Click to install
7. You'll Should Get a notification about non amazon prime apps not being allowed along with the option to change that setting,
8. Press the Settings button to take you into the Device menu. From there you can get into developer option and turn USB Debugging On!
9. An For the Icing on the cake , you can restart adb as root from your PC. as demo seems to have an insecure boot image. lol so you don't even need any root explioits.
Not much else to say other than "All you are demo modes belong to us", I'm glad I didn't go with plan A to update the firmware.
Note: Don't worry If it restart demo mode in the middle as your wifi connection settings are perisisted
Also Keep Unknown Application Sources off and you'll be able to run this process as many times as you like.
I'll post pictures etc later on as I've not removed demo yet. I've not remove demo mode yet.
Like I say this could be very specific to just this version the firmware
Hack On People!
Hi,
I tried to find root cause, but unfortunately without success. Is there anybody, who using Tasker or another application for automatization of your phone without any issues?
My issue is, Tasker is still "delayed" - but same rules I used before on LG G3 (Android 6.0) - but now on P9 (DualSIM) didn't work.
I have task for Calendar Entry, where if I have appointment in my work calendar, during this time Sound mode is deactivated (only Vibrate).
Some suggestion? I tried white lists, etc. or another app with same bad behavior.
Thank you!
Well, I tried to deactivate power management app from Huawei over ADB and looks good now finally! Its workaround, but tasker now working very well as expected.
adb shell pm hide com.huawei.powergenie
Did you have "Run in Foreground" selected in Tasker's preferences?
My Tasker works fine with that selected, although I also have trusted the app in permissions manager, allowed it to auto launch & activated it as a device administrator in advanced settings/security.
Yeah, I tried every tip over Tasker or phone (EMUI settings) and only deactivate power management helps me.
I had the same problem with IFTTT. It worked perfectly with my LG G3, but was hopeless on the P9. No amount of white-listing or settings would work.
I even had the app in memory, with Google maps running, on GPS, screen on, and it still wouldn't trigger a location based profile.
I've had to revert to manually arming and dis-arming my home security system. Annoying.
I translate from spanish so I'm sorry if your phone shows menus with other name.
You must go to adjust > advanced adjusts > memory and store and at bottom of page "space clean". On new screen push on upper-right wheel, and now on last option "white list of memory clean". Finally look for your app and activate it.
If you don't include app here, clean system will close it on background and timers won't work. It solved my problems.

"Settings>Advanced settings>Memory & storage>Storage cleaner" and "Memory cleanup whitelist".
Using Agama, I can get an app to start following a reboot. However, I would like to start the App at every Startup. Does Automate or any other app let you do that?

Why would you need Tasker for that simple.
Settings, type in the Search Autostart and add your app to the list of apps to be started on every reboot.
You may also need to disable Battery Optimization for your app (to make sure it would still work in background when the phone sleeps with dark screen)
That should generally work for all Androids. I don't have Huawei P9 now for years, I remember that EMUI might have had specific Settings organization but there was also Autostart (or Auto start)...

I had P9 for three years (if you don't believe, you can find tons of my posts here back from 2017-2018)
Now, you have that phone, not me (I got rid of my last Huawei almost three years ago) - I cannot show you and I cannot look into the EMUI settings because I don't have the EMUI phone anymore
But I KNOW that there was a way in EMUI how to control which apps will be automatically started on boot - I know because I played with all that back in those years, II did need for many apps like AdAway, Find My Device and similar that required to be auto-started to operate correctly
Take your time and google and you'll find. Sorry, I tried to help you but I will no more waste my time on that. Huaweis are past time for me
And take your time, use your imagination, If not Autostart, google for EMUI startup manager or something similar to find the answer for your question on the Net
Basically i need something that can be ran via terminal emulator, or a third party app that i can install which will crash the setup that happens after a factory reset.... Reason is my setup is corrupted, and until it sends a completed flag to my phone, all preloaded apps, as well as many functions in settings are disabled, and also the phone does not activate the MTP protocol so i cannot use adb, because the phone hasnt released the block of it. My setup crashes approx 7 seconds after i touch the screen to start going thru it. I can use trickery to allow me to NEARBY SHARE apk files, and more trickery to load them... but that is as far as the phone will permit. So i really just need a solid method to BREAK or CRASH the android setup, or a command that will have permissions capable of "Config_Settings_Device_Setup_Complete=1" or something to that sort. Remember i am limited to Termux and Terminal Emulator...

If you have no access to ADB or apps of any kind and no other access to the device then no I don't think you can..
If your device isn't working then why not just flash a payload.bin via Fastboot enhance and get your device working again

i am on a Oneplus 10Pro ORIGINALLY T-Mobile branded NE2217... They disabled Hardware Key combinations for Fastboot, and FastbootD .... only recovery and edl are still active! But lemme clear up a few things.....
I CAN INSTALL apps.... certain ones will not open after install, mainly any Web Browser, 3rd party search, file manager, or email client... no app that can reach out to the Internet...
WHAT I CAN LOAD is apps like Terminal Emulator, Termux, Launchers, the plain "FIles" file manager, and many more. I can access the shelf in the black screen, and thru it i can jump into the crippled Settings app, followed by "Home Screen Settings", and when i change the orientation of the app list, (vertical, horizontal), it takes me to a handicapped Home screen.. looks completely normal, but EVERY icon says "cannot find package" when clicked. i managed to force Terminal Emulator, and Termux to install and open. I can do others, provided it is something that is readily availble somewhere.
In the About Phone tab, when i go to version number, and start tapping build, it does nothing... because its locked out, just like all the apps are.... Everything normal is in some kind of perpetual hold state, that will only release when , "Android_Config_Status_User_Complete = 0" changes to "1".
This is why i need a System UI crash to take down the setup app... then i can go enable USB DEBUGGING, run the command to get back to FastBoot, and use the tool to flash a payload. But til i can break the hold, i am limited severely in what the device will allow me to do.
If you can root your device and run su in termux you can uninstall the setup apk.
Actually they may not work if you can't get into Fastboot...
Tbh I'd send it back...T mobile strikes again...
