Newbie Question
If I did a backup of data with TWRP recovery and then flashed different rom and then tried to restore the backup would it work?
Most likely you will end up with a bootloop or Android Core constantly crashing. If you want to backup and restore apps data, I'd recommend using Titanium Backup instead.
If the new ROM is similar enough, and you only restore DATA, it might work. But like the last response, it might not. I also suggest (and use) Titanium for migrating app data. Although be aware that Titanium causes problems when restoring Whatsapp (and maybe a couple other apps that I don't use)? I've used Titanium with no problems on the 3T (as I have on countless ROM flashes on several Android devices).

Hi. I know this might be kinda stupid, but I wanna install CM-13 (unfinished) on my huawei p9. I have everything. (bootloader, twrp, etc.) I just wanna ask: can I use Titanium Backup to reinstall some user apps with their data intact?
btw here's the ROM I'm talking about:

Anyone knows if ther's a problem with TB and MIUI? A made backups on some system apps and later removed the apps. Now when i try to restore some of them nothing happens and TB seems to get in a endless loop.
I've tried several tips and trix that i have found on the web but nothing helps
Yeah there are issues with TB and MIUI. Majorly due to heavy miui optimizations.
Since DOTos is not longer supported / will be updating, is it safe to dirty flash a new rom over DOTos and not wiping data? I have stuff for my apps i dont want to lose, and messages.

Generally not a good or wise idea. Especially if the ROM you plan to flash is of a different type (lots of settings and other diff between LOS-based and AOSP/GZOSP for instance). You risk instability.
Some folks have done a nandroid backup of existing ROM and then (attempt to?) restore data to a new/different ROM.
No, your best bet is to do app backups. Use Titanium Backup to backup user apps (NOT system apps). Should have no problems restoring apps and data on a new ROM. You could also backup some system apps but it's not a good idea to restore them. You can, however, probably restore their data if needed.
Due to some issues on Oreo I usually install apps via Play Store or saved apks and then restore just their data with TiBu. No problems that way.
TiBu can do messages also but I have and use SMS Backup and Restore on all ROMs. Constantly using it across ROMs and devices. Works without fail.

Ya I always use sms backup+ I love the app. I tried doing titanium back up but can never figure out how to use it

It's one of the few (and easiest to be honest) way. Look up a tutorial for titanium on Google or xda. You'll be happy you did if the data is that important
I made a backup using TWRP and restored just the data partition. Most things work but when I open Signal Messenger it just flashes and closes. Any idea how to fix it or get the messages off? Would it make a different if I installed the app before restoring from TWRP? I came from stock Android to Lineage (aside question, where can I even download stock firmware from?)
Signal has a built-in backup functionality. Your best bet is to use that one.
This would mean going back to stock, restoring everything, taking a backup inside Signal - then flashing Lineage again, install Signal and restore from backup
What's everyone using for full backup and restore ?
Quite regularly I've been flashing fastboot between chinese , global ,Eu stable ,Eu weekly and developer preview android 12 and usually Its a pain in the ass to reinstall the apps
(Mi backup solution from cloud and PC isn't good enough and loads of apps just won't work without being reinstalled fresh which is time consuming and boring)
Is there anything like a Nandroid backup possible that's works reliably ?
I haven't flashed roms regularly in several years, back in the day we used to use clockwork mod and TWRP but these are not available yet...

I'm using swift backup.
Using Swift Backup too. Works for 80-90% of the Apps in average. Just some banking apps need fresh install.
And again Swift Backup... I used Titanium Backup much in the past, but for some reason it became pretty unreliable when restoring so I switched...

Yeah same here. TB is outdated, but was very good in the past!
Migrate worked great on the MI9.
Didn't test on the Ultra because already have global version m
I switch between super backup and swift. both work really well for me, but with Super Backup, you don't need to sign in with the Goolag
I see everybody talking about swift backup.... Bit can you do everything with the free version. I mean all apps, launcher and logins are saved and works 100% with restoring ? I tried it once and I thought it wasn't working without paying for the app
