I would settle for a custom recovery...
This is a typical scenerio with the Camera 2 now out and the K Zoom. As soon as upgraded models and especially completely new models are released development usually comes to a screeching halt on the previous models. These are not wildly popular devices, so it's not too surprising that there was never much development to begin with. The same development fizzle happened with my Note 2 phone, and lack of popularity was a big problem with my Note 10.1 2014 edition tablet.

Do you think for the sake of this device you could pull someone to get a ROM made?
Didn't I read somewhere on XDA that Philz and Clockwork Mod are no longer producing custom recoveries? Or was that device specific? I thought I read that TWRP is the only name in the recovery game currently.
I recently received a galaxy note 5, previously I was using an LG G2 with Resurrection Remix. One of the things which VB surprised me about the note 5 was how slow, buggy and poor the battery life was compared to my old phone.
Unfortunately I've not been able to find a single stock AOSP rom out there. The Samsung UI is wooden, ugly and a plain nuisance where usability is concerned. (Not to mention riddled with bloatware, NFL is considered a system app *facepalms*)
Can anybody please let me know if there's any non-Samsung based roms out there, I've seriously looked and couldn't find anything..
To all the amazing developers out here, we have so many stock based roms for our OP3, but it would be really interesting to try out a different OEM Rom altogether. Can anyone please port the Samsung S8 or lets say LG g6 Rom for the OP3? I know many people will be interested in this. Thank you.
TouchWiz and LG UX are closed source ROMs, so in order to port them you should be REALLY good in reverse engineering, and port all the apps, the libs and the kernel components that as I said, are not open source. So the answer is no, I don't think anybody could port them.
Just buy one of these phones ??
even if it could be done, most developers may not want to
It'd be a major undertaking to port a Samsung rom to any device that isn't a Samsung. It's not impossible, but it'd require a great deal of work by a very capable developer. All in all, it just isn't worth it for the few that have the skill to pull it off.
I mentioned the same thing in the Q&A section. You'd be better off using a substratum theme.
If you want a samsung bloatware OS just buy a samsung.
whyyy???? why someone would like put lagwiz in a OP3?
That would be a bad idea !
Lol
this is not the first time someone requesting this. i simply cannot imagine someone wanting/needing this. it just doesnt make any sense. and i also cannot imagine people not knowing that this task isnt even possible.
Maybe try miui. If you're into that perverted type of version of Android

I would rather encourage an individual of this forum in case he came in with a request. When people can port chinese roms, why not s8. Rather than discouraging and commenting on whether he should buy s8 or lg g6 people should focus their efforts on trying to make this happen.

The problem isn't located at "When people can port Chinese ROMs", the problem is a technical one. Neither Samsung nor LG wants their stock ROM to be easily ported to other phones, that'll mean a huge loss for either of them, this would mean that their software can be easily replicated under a specific variations of hardware.
Additionally, there are also the facts that their stock ROMs is very difficult to port. MIUI, Lewa, and those "Chinese ROMs" you mentioned earlier has less "inner-working" changes compared to say, Samsung, who has added KNOX for example.
This does not stop there either, their stock ROMs can be optimised for a specific set of hardware and since OnePlus 3(T)'s hardware differs a lot compared to either Samsung or LG, it is hard to port the stock ROM without having the source code for them.
But I definitely agree with your last point; If we know we can't port it, why not tell that we can't instead of "Oh just buy an S8 / LG G6, bruh" or "why port these two crappy ROMs here?"

Do you know how Chinese ROMs are ported? If you're talking about MIUI, Xiaomi releases something called a patchrom, which is essentially part of the source code. This is why a lot of devices have unofficial MIUI ROMs.
Samsung's crappy version of Android is waaaay off from AOSP. They're partitions and bootloaders are extremely different from that of other normal devices. Most of the "TouchWiz" ports have only made it to other Samsung devices, and not for devices made by other OEMs. The only example I've seen of a functional TouchWiz port is with the Samsung Galaxy Grand 2, which got a port of TouchWiz LP, after being abandoned at Kitkat by Sammy.
So yes, it is an impossible and ridiculous request. There are few people in the world who can dream of achieving this, and unfortunately, they're not stupid enough to want a laggy, bloated OS on their smartphone.
"people should focus their efforts on trying to make this happen."
I'd love to see you work on this. It's easy to ask others to work when all you have to do is ask.

Thread cleaned, flaming users on XDA is not acceptable. It stops now.
Hey, i was just wondering why hasnt there been any stock android roms for the note 8 yet? I saw the s9 getting a resurrection remix. Is there any technical limitations thats holding back the development or do people just not care?
Because this phone has a pen ana that pen won't work without source code from Samfail

Stock Android - and especically things like RR actually have pretty solid stylus support. And there's plenty of apps that add features like pen-gestures and replicate the proprietary Samsung stuff.
The problem is likely more to do with the lack of treble support that the S9 has - which drastically simplifies the issue of dealing with proprietary firmware and API's.
And the fact that a large portion of Note 8 users have models with locked bootloaders, which prevent the usage of non-Samsung ROMS. There have been several threads detailing attempts at making AOSP or similar ROM's, but all have fallen silent without much to show in the way of progress:

Decoding and dealing with proprietary API's and firmware takes a lot of time and luck without sources which Samsung refuse to provide. And the pool of developers that seem interested in such a huge effort for the Note 8 seems to be shrinking.

I wouldn't say the situation is hopeless. Just pretty silent at the moment. Some of the groundwork seems to have been done particularly by @SaschaNes and the teams they're a part of. But they've been silent on actual progress of bootable builds for several months now. No clue if they're still working at it or not.
I would say AOSP or Lineage for the Note 8 is achievable it would just take reasons for developers to dedicate their time and effort. And currently, there aren't many for most. Few dev's actually have the device, and even fewer are interested in AOSP for it. Perhaps a bounty might lure one or two - but it would have to be sizeable, and considering the amount of people that seem to have bought this device for the Samsung features - that's going to be hard to organize.

This, is the reason the note line, for a while now, has not had the development other Samsung phones have. Add to that , snapdragon and its lockdown , makes it difficult to see the note series as a custom powerhouse.

Which is a shame, considering the legacy of the Note 3,4 and 5 which continue to have AOSP roms built for them to this day - which has drastically extended the lifespan beyond Samsungs woeful EOL. Sadly devs simply don't seem to have the motivation or time to deal with jumping through the increasingly convoluted hoops constantly being errected by google and OEMs.
Because the note 8 is so locked down
whoever stands out and do it for the community should be praised as the king of all Notes
Are you plain bored or are you looking for specific One UI 4 features not found elsewhere?
Your dream can definitely come true when and if :
Samsung releases One UI 4 on the same chipset as Note 10 Pro for Port ROMs to be a reality
Developers have the time and have built expertise in porting One UI 4 across different SOCs
This would be an extremely difficult task I'm guessing since other phones that do have a one ui port aren't as good anyway but I really hope that we have a tone of choice when it comes to custom roms like the k20 Pro or the poco F1 has
OneUI looks cool
Everyone, please do NOT waste a Dev's time.
I come from Oneui, and if you use it - it is the worst. Ui is very flashy and bad, tons of bloatware, and perf sucks overall
Grass is always greener on the other side
