I just got an s8 plus from t mobile that has the Bixby remapping working on it. My phone has a firmware update and a Bixby software app update asking to be installed, does anyone know which update breaks Bixby mapping? Can I just update the Bixby app or is that not safe either.
Thank you guys!

It will take some time if you take the firmware + bixby updates from T-Mobile because T-Mobile devs helped make the bixby button not remappable. So until then if remapping is a good feature for you to have, don't update your phone. Just wait until devs find another way to remap the bixby button on the updated version.

bxActions allows re-mapping and works with the most recent T-mobile update.
It would be an act of extreme arrogance should T-mobile strive to disallow re-map of this button!
OK so I took it upon myself to test this out. I went ahead and only updated the Bixby app itself and it still works. I assume it's the phone firmware update that could potentially break the Bixby button remap.

So the title explains itself, is there a rom or any way to remove Bixby completely, maybe even remapping that button? I've even switched the Bixby button off but still brings it up with the button some how. I wish Samsung would stop the pushing for Bixby since ive heard nothing good about it.
There are many threads and YouTube videos about the benefits of bixby.

Get BK Package Disabler and disable all instances, 5 or 6, of Bixby. There are more than one remapping apps in the Play Store but unless they improved you will get lag especially in the gallery app.

There are also threads and videos explaining why the two are different but work well together.
I bought a case with rubberized buttons, then shaved off the Bixby button. I also disabled it through the Bixby app itself. So no more accidental presses, but I can deliberately squeeze out a long press if I really needed to. It's supposed to still activate Bixby voice I think, but the only time it tries is if I am in a text field and deliberately try to push it. Except that doesn't do anything either, I think because I'm not using Samsung keyboard. In other words I'm happy with my setup, and for all purposes basically removed it physically via the case.
Hi Guys,
I was wondering if the Bixby Button can be used as Mute button during the call. Remember the Mute button on the blackberries? Very handy.

bxActions app (Play Store) should be able to do it / configure the Bixby button for this function.
See screenshots for some use /options
Don't know if this option is available in free version.
I'm using the Pro version.
Good luck
I'm guessing OP means to mute the mic during a phone call, I'm not sure if bxActions can do that.

You can try using the Button Mapper app from the Play Store and assigning the "Mute Microphone" action to the Bixby Button. You need to run the suggested ADB command first before you can do it though.

I would LOVE to be able to make this goofy bixby button toggle mic mute during calls. I have to do a ton of conference calls for work and really miss having a button for this from BB days.

Has anyone found a solution? Seems there area alot of "may work" but nothing has been confirmed?

Note 9 announced, so came Bixby along with it. This time it's version 2.0, out of the box. Samsung says it's now better at predicting user needs, processing natural languages and is quicker. You like it or you are going to remap it with a remapper or disable it forever? Or you want it to be dead already? Share your thoughts.
I'm too heavily invested in the Google assistant ecosystem. I liked how DJ Koh talked about how fragmented systems are because companies want to control, but results in a poor user experience, but then of course there's no way to disable bixby easily....not very open if you ask me.
I'll still test it out of interest.

Well, you can forget Bixby home, let only the "Bixby voice" to stay and to follow your commands, can disable both and 4get forever or can Remap with remapper.

Bixby seems to faster and context aware now (like Google Assistant), based on what I saw in Flossy Carter's unboxing and hands-on video (@8:02).

Yup, I watched that video sometime back. It's indeed improved but personally I'm not at all a fan of it when Google assistant so damn good
Hopefully its aware enough to disable itself before I do.

Ill never use it, ill just disable it again like with my s8 plus

I think I'll give it another shot. Only reason I had stopped using was because I'm invested in Google Assistant. At least that's what I thought until just now when I realized, the only thing I use Google Assistant for is a 30 minute timer for my lunch clock punches.
Plus there's just something weird about saying "Hi Bixby," out loud.

Yes, by executing Android Debug Bridge commands as there are some nice remappers out there.

good to know that. Thanks!
I currently use it only for system control. My daily driver is Google.
I use Bixby all the time. Google Assistant is my reminder only use. Now that it remembers you are in a conversation and don't have to keep repeating the initial context I'll be using it even more.
I'm not seeing options to disable Bixby hardware button entirely in Note 9, unlike S9/S9+.
The settings and UI are different in Note 9 in comparison to S9/S9 plus, but no option of "do nothing" when you press the Bixby key in Bixby settings or Bixby voice settings.
**The unit I'm having is NOT a retail unit, it's a demo/review unit, with latest OTA flashed 2 days back with few enhancements and August security patch. The option to turn the Bixby hardware button into a totally "dead" button might show up in retail units.

Nope no "switch off" bixby buttons... very annoying And BX actions isn't working "yet". I gave Bixby a try for a couple of hours... it's a no go for me.

ButtonMapper doesn't work as well. But I would assume those apps might work in future once devs start working on it.
Update:
Checked a retail unit and Bixby settings are not different from the demo/review unit I had been using.
So, using bixby/phone settings one cannot turn the button completely off, for now. This is ugly and a step backwards from S9/S9+ IMO.
Hi,
I already have a Note 9 (got it right after launch), but with the default apps and procedures, i'm unable to remap the bixby button.
Anyone here already succeeded with this?

How you thinking you would remap it with default apps and procedures?... There is no such thing.
It was rumored to have remapable Bixby but it turned out to be false. You need to use a remapper app.

I understand. But for the S9 and S9+ there is an app in the PlayStore that handles remapping, the app seems to be working fine, except for the fact that the remapping doesn't work haha.
have you followed all the steps to activate and to run required ADB commands?

You have a link to a thread/article for the ADB Commands/procedure,or,just post it yourself.
I've been away from Samsung devices for about six months, would be nice to have the info, especially if the apps in the Google Play Store aren't working.
THX! :good:

Hey folks, I had reddit on my remapable button for Bixby for single press and double press is Bixby, but something happened yesterday out of the blue and it is not working anymore and it launches Bixby on single press and its frozen. Tried to re do the whole process nothing got fixed, restarted the phone, nothing, I do not have any new software, I sont use games I dont use almost anything except Google stuff like calendar and keep, some things like viber, Skype, WhatsApp, a bibble, or scanner and reddit... so the idea is I should not have anything to break my phone in my eyes, but I just also remembered there were Samsung updates yesterday in the Samsung store, for the apps and Bixby was one of them, has any one had similar issues, and do you know a fix?
Nobody?
I got the update for Bixby & related applications. At first, the single click of bixby button did launch the bixby assistant. Then I went to settings & disabled>enabled it & it worked good again.

For example I disabled bixby using package disabler pro and seem to be having issues remapping...
Yes, I use bxActions for that.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...-bxactions-remap-bixby-button-single-t3832301
For me it works great. Action Shortpress is Display off and lang press Google Assistant.
After updating, I had to go through the Bixby setup the first time I hit the button but after that I'm back to normal on a single press.
