Video compression - General questions about video - OnePlus 3T Questions & Answers

I've used open camera and PA camera trying to find the best camera app to record HD and 4K resolution videos to upload to YouTube. If you send a video you've recorded through messaging. The quality of the video is greatly reduced. I've noticed that even on uploading videos to YouTube. The aspect ratio remains 4:3, so a video uploaded to YouTube looks like it's been made from a phone. Does YouTube compress videos during an upload. It should be uploading at the same resolution I've recorded in, which is 4k. What are yall's thoughts? Suggestions?

Picture Taking and Video Recording Quality Samples

Can someone upload some pictures at 8mp resolution and a video taken at 720p here? Full resolutions please.
I believe my camera is faulty or the quality of this camera on this phone is worse than MyTouch 4G. Also the MT4G was recording videos as .Mp4 format and this one .3Gp . Does anyone know why?
Here are my uploads @ their full resolution.

i think it depends on the video you're watching. i noticed i can pick 1080p on some videos but not all. some i can only pick 720 others 480.
Yes, but i've tested it on video which was called 1080p test and the maximum quality i could choose was 720p. It's really weird to me.

Video recording pixelated @ 1080p 60fps.

When I try to record a video (with the stock app) ONLY in 1080p 60fps the video is pixelated, especially when I zoom in.
The phone is brand new.
I dont know if this is a bug and it will be fixed by a future update OR the stock camera app has this bug....
Does anyone else have this problem?
Everyone have this problem. 1080p60fps is not good at all on mi a2, looks like xiaomi tried to put 60fps in the same bitrate as 30fps, so we have not so good quality. When you enable camers2api in every other app than stock, 1080p looks like max zoomed in picture..
Maybe with pie update we can expect some improvement...

Yes, I hope with Pie will be fixed. Its not a major problem though... I use 4K 30fps for my recordings....
OpenCamera is the best option for 4k video recording. But loses this resolution if you enable camera2api

Do you record in HEVC and are there visible differences ?

Got my S10+ and I see that it has HDR+ option and HEVC. HDR+ should be better in any case but what about HEVC ?
Is there visible quality difference when you record in HEVC format ? In size it does have difference but also it disables HDR+ option.
Thanks
One more thing, did I got it right that HDR+ videos can be viewed only on HDR devices ????
I thought it will appear like normal video on laptop or other phone and TV ? So normal video wothout any HDR effects. Then I must turn it off if that is the case.
Anyone ? Is xda dead ?

I haven't played with HEVC, but I do know that Apple has this option to and can capture in this format. Basically it should be an upgrade to the older format(H.264/MP4) and should provide better compression and support for 8K too
Also for HDR you normally need HDR supported display. For example my Surface Pro 6 can play HDR videos from YouTube and other streaming services. Otherwise HDR videos will play normally on other displays/devices

There is no difference in quality. HEVC is smaller in size and doesn't run on all devices compatible with x.264

HEVC stands for High efficiency Video Codec. It is nothing more than a compression format. It does nothing for video quality

Question Recording HR10/HLG videos

Hello, is there any app able to record real HDR videos? I mean real HDR10/HLG with BT.2020 colors. My old Xperia XZ2Compact is capable of this and the video looks great on my HDR 4k TV
