Hi, I'm currently running MIUI Global 9.0 Stable 9.0.3.0 (NDDMIEI) in my Mi Max 2.
I have followed the guide to install the TWRP 3.1.1 and have rooted via Magisk method and running it.
I have received the OTA update V9.2.1.0.NDDMIEK and is downloaded automatically.
I'm guessing I can't install this OTA downloaded update via TWRP? Do I have to wait for the flashable zip of this update?
Or should I unroot, flash stock recovery and then do the OTA update, and then repeat the TWRP and Magisk again?
Thank you for any help.
I have same problem. Anybody can help ? Thanks !

You can let it update, with no problem at all. After you hit the restart to apply update button, it will direct you to TWRP and you can flash the OTA update using twrp. It will not cause bootloop, or whatsoever. You will just need to hit the restart button after TWRP have flashed the OTA and it will reboot to apply update. However, you will need to flash TWRP again if you didn't change something in the terminal cuz Miui recovery will replace twrp. It's like a code to make TWRP to replace MIUI recovery permanently. ( It has a guide somewhere in this forum to teach you how to use TWRP to replace MIUI recovery permanently) Ok, so if you didn't change the code, you have to flash TWRP everytime you update via OTA. I flash TWRP again and again nearly every week after OTA cuz I'm on developer rom and developer rom nearly updates every week. So the main point is, no worries ya. You can go ahead and flash the OTA as it won't cause bootloop.

Hmm....wait. So you go to TWRP and flash the rom? I mean, you manually reboot into recovery, and then manually flash the OTA? It can't be done like that, for sure will get error. What i meant and what i always did is let the download manager downloaded the OTA package( The download manager is in the "about phone" section), then after done downloading, press reboot and it will automatically direct you to TWRP and it flashes the OTA packages automatically and will be succesful. But if your problem still persists, i have no idea what's going on. Maybe the global rom OTA packages is different from Developer's one.
As for me, the first time my phone downloaded the incremental update which was a few hundred MB in size, when I pressed update, it went to TWRP. But from there nothing happened. It just showed the home screen of the TWRP. After waiting for a few minutes, I simply rebooted using TWRP's menu.
When returned to system, the phone said the update was not successful and mentioned something about downloading full rom. When I woke up, it had completed download the full rom which is 1.43GB.
I haven't updated yet, using MIUI menu, until I want to make sure how to correctly update without problems.
I don't mind reflashing TWRP and and MAGISK again, though. Just wanted to update without getting into some sort of trouble which may prolong the process of getting back to normal working status.
Just made a TWRP backup.
Thanks for any suggestions.

the link you have provided is not a stock miui rom updates. its only the twrp flashable firmware update packages which is very helpful for people using custom roms. custom rom users can update firmware packages without flashing stock MIUI for each MIUI update

no need for custom roms, u only need twrp. so if u prefer twrp flashing but still keeping stock miui firmware, this is a nice option. other than the twrp install routine there is nothing changed in those roms.

The question speaks for itself,I cannot find really any accurate ways to get started because I once tried to install Oreo beta (before official was out) and flashed a Oreo recovery onto Nougat and bricked my phone, and the only way was to use DC Phoenix so for now I have kept my phone on EMUI 8 stock.
So if anyone can tell me the steps to install let's say an Android 8.1 Treble ROM or Android 9 when it gets good as a daily driver,I know that you need to do the following things:
-unlock the bootloader
-install a recovery
-flash a ROM through fastboot or through recovery and after that flash Gapps and a modded version of Magisk
That is pretty self explanatory, but I have seen like that you cannot use TWRP since there is a problem when wiping data and that you need to have Huawei stock recovery and some important things to consider since I see it is pretty easy to brick these phones if you don't follow instructions but since there isn't really clear instructions to do some of these things,I am asking here if anyone can explain to me.
And yes,I do have my bootloader unlock code since as I stated,I tried to do this before.

And if I have downloaded a zipped ROM instead of an GSI,I do the same steps but in TWRP I flash the ROM with the Gapps and Magisk, right?
Also, can I use NoCheckRecovery for Oreo when I need to wipe data instead of stock recovery since I think it would come in handy if I would need to re-flash something through that without Huawei checks and it seems to be easier to find?
And I flash the recoveries to recovery_ramdisk,just to be sure,I know some things did change with Oreo so I am asking?

Pie gsi
Hi all,
I have installed Pixel Experience (Oreo) gsi ROM no problem. But if I try to flash any Pie gsi ROM it just goes into a boot loop. I flash system via fastboot and seems OK. Reboot and it just boot loops a few times and goes to the recovery screen that prompts to download and install the standard system.
Has anybody come across this or have any suggestions. I have tried a few different Pie gsi ROMs and same thing happens.
Thanks
Mick
Now that we have finally got the update in the EU region I want to know if anyone has successfully flashed TWRP or any other recovery?
In case anyone wondering I have managed to get root with the latest magisk via patched boot image method.
**UPDATE**
I flashed the latest TWRP from this thread and all went smoothly. Also managed to get Viper4android working which was my biggest concern coming from Android 9. Happy days :victory:

Waiting for your feedback, because my orangefox is ready for OTAs but i think because i forgot to check DM VERITY and FORCED ENCRYPTION it asks for password when rebooting for update and ruins it...this is my guess. So please share your feedback and it you checked the 2 options unlike me.

Okay so, coming from 10.3.4.0 Stable, OFox Recovery and encrypted, the update ran through fine without any problems. Since I'm encrypted I had to enter my password first but after that it started installing the Update. as far as I remember, I've seen that Orangefox's script that prevents Orangefox from being overwritten after every update (it's called OTA.bak I think) already handles both DM-Verity and Force-Encrypt on it's own, at least I didn't had to take any further steps regarding Encryption and such stuff and after updating it booted into MIUI 11 just fine (which ofc since it's an Major Update took a little longer than usual but at least it eventually did)

So what do you do when you're on 10.3.4 pfkeuxm Rom and running with twrp and magisk installed?
Can't I install the miui 11 rom via twrp and then immediately flash magisk again?
Following the advice here, I've got the update installed with twrp and magisk working fine. The only problem I have is that I can't read/write the system partition so titanium backup isn't working. Any ideas how I could fix it?

Feel free to download it. All I did was extract the boot.img from the payload.bin, copy the boot.img to an extra phone, patched it with magisk, then uploaded it.
Don't install TWRP yet. The people who are infinitely smarter than I am will make a TWRP that will work for OB1, and that's way above my pay grade. I hope this helps someone.

Install the OTA
Go to magisk manager and pick install.
pick install to inactive slot (after OTA)
make sure you don't have any modules enabled that may be incompatible.
reboot
when the 11 TWRP drops, you can install it as a magisk module to gain custom recovery back
Just download magisk 21.4 zip and boot into twrp and flash it. No problems. Way easier. Here is the zip.

Okay I see. So I have TWRP LOL. I KNOW WHY to.
I have orangfox dual boot .zip from here. Also used TWRP to install the beta 1 on my phone which I run two OSs 96gb each and a extra 32 gb partition for genal stuff. So I flashed from Oxy 10.3.7 in TWRP, beta 1 it's. Than before booting I flashed Orangefox-dualboot-v11-7.zip. Wich installs TWRP and root automatically to both OSs. I recommend to TWRP 1st from 10 and after flashing the ota. Flash a TWRP zip file. Here's a boot.img from mine on the beta side. Be carefull it could have twrp preinstalled in it. I'm new lol but isn't twrp in the boot.img now a days. This one has it if it is. My boot.img it's also got magisk 21.4. totally blew by not having to worries about this thread. One other thing though. It's for a dual boot setup and encryption is off.

Ohh couldn't find Orangefox dual boot's post today so here is the twrp file. It's not really worked on right now and has option to flash magisk on R11 Pass but the copy of magisk is no good on the R11 OS but has magisk. 20.4 option for a Q10 is, when it IDs it. You'll see. The script options. PS orangfox dual booting with three different drives rocks. Also it has a app manager and a magisk mange GUI. Almost forgot beta 10 version 17-19 will not successful y flash this twrp. But any other copy for the phone on xda or OnePlus.com work fine. It's a encryption variety problem. If your password becomes corrupt (only on OS can have password type security on a dual boot setup... I got away with using the same password on both OSs for a minute though. ) in the root partition thiers a directory called Ffiles, with .zip you can flash while TWRped to fix a few things like that. Other than that let me know. Lol I want to mention Evey time you flash an OTA or anything that will alter the work this twrp installs, you need to flash the file afterwards, before rebooting. And reboot after flashing it so everything links up. Of coarse you can select to reboot right back to recovery. Best luck I couldn't find their post on xda so that's why I typed up so much. Lol I'll be funny again I don't know who this stuff on how to downgrade really but thiers a Windows tool that has capibillities err what ever to flash a OTA of 10 in fastboot mode. Anyways no worries. It's called all-in-one flash tool. Works on maney OnePlus phones. Maybe for encrypted data partitions. I run unencrypted stuff I do not like encryption on any electric devices.

Feel free to download it. All I did was extract the boot.img from the payload.bin, copy the boot.img to an extra phone, patched it with magisk, then uploaded it.

I just want to say thank you. I tried the new magisk update and it didn't work. I could get to recovery and figured I had PB1 for Andoid11 anffd I would flash to gety baclk to working. Of course I lost root, but was able to get it back with magisk_patched_Ei056.img flashed to boot. It works fine. Can hang with root until TWRP gets updated.
VERY APPRECIATED.
Updated Twrp installer, and a link to both encrypted and unencrypted boot.img and vendor.img's. The Twrp was updated around the 29th. The .img files
I just made. Theirs also a system img if you want it All Beta 1 stuff. The new twrp can install magisk21.4 during the process. The boots I'm hoping can load your beta 1 and let you reboot into twrp right after. Gonna use my open drive and test. Later

WOW YOU ARE SMART! Good looking out! This IS way easier. Thank you so much for the heads up!
wait, actually, do some research before you post. there's currently not a functioning TWRP for Android 11 and if you install the update, your TWRP will flash and freeze.

You should rephrase your comment. TWRP 3.5.0_9.0 works absolutely fine on Android 11. You may have an issue with OOS11, but it is not an Android 11 issue.

I'm pretty sure it's insinuated that it's pertaining to OOS11. Don't be willfully obtuse.

2. how can I install GSI ROMs?
3. Is there any possibility to release the twrp mode?
is there any change to release pixel experience for redmi note 10s

none if you want still have a phone to use
There is one rom now https://download.pixelexperience.org/rosemary/
Has anyone installed the PE rom yet? I tried yesterday, following the instructions, and just got a boot loop after flashing the PE recovery rom.
However, the instructions confused me a little...
Flash a recovery on your device by typing (replace <recovery_filename> with the actual filename!):
Click to collapse
fastboot flash boot <recovery_filename>.img
Click to collapse
(My bold)
Should that be 'fastboot flash recovery' ??
Also, I'm not coming from stock but from a custom ROM (riceDroid). Would that make a difference?
Thanks for any (kind) comments

Hey, I ran into the same problem today. If I find a solution, I'll let you know. I would be glad if you share too.
I tried again yesterday to install Pixel Experience, and again it just boot loops when booting into recovery mode. I've now reinstalled stock Miui and will try again.

There no recovery partition so it shouldn't. I'm on this ROM currently and have no problems with installation. The guide says that you need to be on latest global a11 miui (12.5.16.0.RKLMIXM). You didn't miss that?

I've no idea what version of the bootloader I'm on as getprop ro.bootloader returns 'unknown'
But, as I'm on "latest" v13 Miui, I suspect the bootloader is the wrong one. Do I have to downdate to 12.5 before installing PE?
Edit: I've downdated the device to 12.5 RKLMIXM and have flased the PE recovery image, all okay. It's now installing the PE zip, so fingers crossed that's it.
Edit edit: I have PE on my device! Thank you at @xuser_0 for highlighting were I'd gone wrong.
The key @JohanGriman appears to be to ensure your device is not on the latest Miui but the latest 12.5 version.
Is there any instructions on how to install Magisk on this? I've tried to usual ways (via apk and flashing .zip thru adb sideload) but it fails to repack the boot image. Will a manual patch of the boot image and reflash work?
Edit: I've been able to directly patch the PE recovery image (as used in the installation process) using the Magisk apk on my device. Can I now flash this patched image to the device?
I don't want to try it as other instructions I've found talk about a vbmeta image that needs to be flashed too, and I don't know if that's necesary.... and I don't want to trash my device again!
Just flash it but it will break safetynet. To fix safetynet enable Zygisk, add google play services to deny list and install shamiko.
