Standby drain

When you sleep, does your phone sleep, or does it stay up all night and crunch 1s and 0s? Rate this thread to express how you deem the speed at which the LG V20's battery drains under standby conditions. A higher rating indicates that when the phone is not in use, the battery drains minimally.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!

Compared to the Note 7 there is next to zero residual battery drain. I forgot to plug it in one night and saw a 2% drop.

Doesnt really drain on sleep mode. Not bad.

This is great to hear. My V10 can drop 30% overnight. I can't wait to upgrade.

I'm losing upwards of 15% at night. Not good.

This has been one of my BEST PERFORMED sleep time phone so far! Must be something w NOUGAT also? Love it!

I noticed sometime when we insert a new sd card the phone needs to create an internal list and this process can suck alot of battery. It might or might not be this issue thats causing some users to experience overnight battery loss.

I got my V20 yesterday and had it sit overnight, and the drain was practically zero. Very impressed so far.

Standby drain is beyond great. If the phone is off, then 0 to 1% is lost, depending on the stand by time.

The standby drain is unbelievable. I've noticed between 1-2% drain per hour. That's with bluetooth, wifi, and location on, as well as android wear and google fit constantly running in the background.
It's WAY better than my GS7 Edge.

So over an 8hr night you would lose 16%? That's not gifs at all.

I just got the phone last night. First of all... damn this is a sexy beautiful phone. Sleek slim as hell and the best phone I've owned thus far.
What is not okay is the battery drain in standby. I put it on the nightstand at 100% at 11:30pm, woke up at 6:30pm (7hours total) and it was down to 40%!!!!
Not okay LG. I moved over from the LG G5 and the standby on that was excellent, would still be in the 90%s , I hope an update is issued to fix this problem

Over 6 hours of stand by time with 0% lost. I have 4 email accounts running, a few game notifications, etc... No facebook.
This was taken after I cleared most of my notifications.

I too have noticed that this phone has significantly less standby drain than the S7 i was using between the Note7 return and the V20. All in all just better with the battery in my opinion. I usually listen to Pandora all day long at work (wired) and then use my BT headphones at the gym for a couple hours each night too. With the S7 I had to recharge the phone near the end of the work day or i would be cutting it close by the end of my workout. Not the case at all with the V20, after my workout im around 45% still. I do have 2 email accounts / FB / bunch of other stuff running at all times too pretty much. Get a lot of calls / texts throughout the day of course too. So far it has been amazing

I Have the V20 for 2 days and last nite lost about 30%, will check today what was running... not good but could be the battery ....

Sleep mode is awesome I bearly notice a drian.

7 hours I slept last night with v20 unplugged after fully charging. Burned 1%.
Your issue seems to either be low signal strength or apps waking the phone.

I am havei very little sleep drain. This phone has really surprised me. I have been loyal too thenote series since the n2.... And when the n7 issue started and we had to return it I decided to give the v20 a shot. So far it has really surprised me!

Very Poor Battery Life - Phone Idle VERY HIGH, Please Help

Hello, I'm on the Epic rom 7.0 Nougat rom. My battery life is very poor despite everything I've tried to do. Standby drain is very poor taking extremely high battery usage.
Almost 10% loss in under 9 hours... Please could someone help me find the cause of this problem? I've had many Android devices but never before had such high standby drain.
Refer to the picture below, stats based over a 7 hour period.

Try resurrection remix rom and report back.

What are the BEST roms for battery life? Standby battery is very poor and unacceptable. For me the battery life in Epic rom 6.0 MM was better than Epic rom 7.0 Nougat. I thought Nougat was better for battery? In my case it's worse than 6.0 Android M.

The battery life of MM Epic is not actually my reason to stick with it but, it's quite acceptable on my end. (Below screenshots) 21H total, 1.5H SOT taken by %30 percentage of battery(%10 is screen off), low signal reception -while a trip-, wifi/data off when screen is off. That %10 screen off drainage sounds high but actually not quite. If you use like constantly turn the screen on and off, it's kinda acceptable. Simply; the device won't dive into deep sleep right away. Last thing; phone idle is always taking lower percentage than screen as far as i see on my device. Nougat is sick fellas.

But compare your phone idle compared to mine, there is a big difference. Also, I have excellent coverage, always full signal, never get bad reception yet phone idle is too high.
Is there any fix or suggestion?? I've lost almost 10% battery and screen on time has only been 11 minutes, do you really think that is normal?? Should still be 98% battery not 92%

It's abnormal. Return to MM if you've already tried clean re-flashing your current rom and couldn't fix that situation.

That's what I was thinking of. To re-flash and downgrade to MrRaines MM rom. I will do so later on this evening and report back.
To be honest I did try the MM rom from MrRaines and did not have the phone idle issue, only started to get this with Nougat...
Also, performance and camera was the same, no different.

Much better, went back to epic rom MM version.

This is very odd , I have had no issues at all with Epic 7.0 sometimes it's best to do a full wipe then upgrade. Sorry it didn't work out for you.

Somehow feel the battery drain is more on mobile data. Wifi seems to have improved.

This illustrates that the network signal in your vacinity is generally poor... it will be worse if we have dual SIM active searching for poor signal all the time....

Maybe, but in the same aread previously, it didn't drop as much as now. I did not do a factory reset for this OTA, I had done it for the first Nougat update though. Followed one of your advise on another forum and wiped cache. Don't think factory reset should matter much. The Phone itself continues to be butter smooth.
BTW - Does the video playing still have issues? When I try to play video taken previously, it redirects me to the latest photo/video instead of playing it. Very annoying indeed. I have to wait for the video to completely cache, and then go back and play again. Sorry to post this issue here, but this seems to still happen with the latest update.

Immediately after taken video from the rear/front camera, the default player is Google Photos (I've set it to be so...). You might need to :
Settings > Apps > three-dot > run "Reset App Preference".

I updated yesterday to the nougat and felt that the battery is draining much faster than before. P2a42 version s244. Any tips? I'm even thinking about downgrading

people should specify if they use
1. p2a42 or p2c72 phone
2. battery saver mode (because it disables vibration,reduces cpu clock,limits background accitivies...)
3. the overall effort for the SOT, gaming? gps? only browsing? speaker never on, or lots of music?
4. IMPORTANT, stock rom with lots of white color or custom rom with substratum black themes, black apps, black wallpapers...etc
5. brightness % ?...... 25....50...75...100% ?
6. mostly 4g or wifi? only wifi?
WITHOUT THESE INFO it is useless to compare 8... 10...16...18 sot.

I highly recommend a factory wipe when going from one Android version to another. I too had some problems when I went from Marshmallow to Nougat. My problems were solved with a wipe.

Yeah with me also... Do a factory reset

I still see more drain than before. Maybe 30 mins less than before (maybe I am being picky, but hey P2 has set a high standard ). I used the Feature/Smart Scene during sleeping hours. Not sure if this is helpful or harmful (It should be considering I am disabling data,wifi gps etc.). But seems to drain little more after the update.
Secondly, I have been testing my home wifi speeds last 2 days. Does speedtest and wifi analyser eat more battery than other apps ?
Other than that, no other change in my usage pattern.

On stock ROM s233, Installed greenify, substratum swift dark theme, 10 hours SOT from 100% to 20%

On stock s244 without root(No subst,Greenify etc) 10hr 40min from (100-19)℅

I am getting 10-11hrs SoT and i have to put to charge every 1.5 days.. Is that normal??.. Someone pls help

Normal is relative. Is it a bit on the low side? Most definitely. Normal? Maybe. It really comes down to the apps you have and how you use your phone. I personally get about 5hrs SOT and I'm fine with that. Standby drain is more important to me than SOT. There are battery saving tips and trick you can try to google or youtube.

My phone drains like 3% per hour on IDLE. I don't have AoD nor anything in particular that should be causing this drain. I have no idea why. The battery life seems to be fine for actual usage, but teeeerrible for AOD.

3% per hour no AOD is bad. You have an app causing major drain for sure. You might have to deep dive in your battery stats to find the culprit. Last resort would be safe mode to see if your able to reproduce the issue. You should go to the battery life thread and ask around.

I'm not sure what it could possibly be since my old Note 8 did this too, but it alternated every other cycle or so where it would drain less than 1% or 3%+. I exchanged it for a new one and this issue is happening again except it was completely fine for the first week or two. There was no app that I downloaded between the time that it was fine and not fine.
I guess I'll repost this in the battery thread.

i am not losing battery overnight as much as you guys, my problem now is i can't get 6-7hrs of sot anymore, 4-5 is as much as i get, and it's only 1 month old.

I miss my note 4. I use to get around 5-8 sot. With this phone only 3 and half hours. That's with everything turned off too. On my note 4 I had just about everything turned on. Will be waiting for the note 10 to release then I will buy the note 9

I'm bot usually that guy, but I tend to agree with this guy. Do we really need to obsess over how long we can use the device before the battery dies?
I've found that just using the device without caring how long it lasts, I get way longer than expected battery life.

The problem with this is, everyone uses their phone differently. So unless people will tell us how bright the screen was, using wifi, 4g, gaming, Facebook and for how long, etc etc, it would be pointless IMO. If you want better battery life, reduce brightness, as this is the biggest drain on the battery, stop all syncing, remove apps like Facebook, reduce the resolution, turn on power saving and turn off animations or put them to .5.

Exactly & agree on all the above. SOT is so over rated & it's easily to manipulate the results. I mean I have posted my SOTs before but I use it only for comparison, ie rom & kernel testing based on my own phone usage. Comparing SOT with others' results doesn't really mean anything except to those looking for some kind of useless bragging rights.

I find the Oreo update sucks. I dont know if its just me. my phones gets heated for no reason, even if its not being used or charging. Battery Life sucks so downgraded the Noughat. Happy to have the 5-7hours SOT and less heated phone.

Didnt want to open a new thread for another Battery consultation. I have the 950U1 model and after upgrading to Oreo ive had an average of 1 hour and 15 min of Screen time and it drained my battery %6. Is that within the norms of how it is? Just curious.

You guys make me regret getting oreo,i think i should go back to nougat, are you getting 5-7 with what seeting im thinking I should roll back?

Anyway, this is very strange as the majority is having possitive feedback on battery life, also the Oreo itself is having some battery (app) optimizations that should help... but no!

I started other thread asking for opinions about the OTA oreo, I mean only OTA, as some got their oreo in beta or cross flashing from other countries, or changing some parts, In my country we dont have OTA oreo yet, at least for officially distribuited devices which are ALL branded, (locked or unlocked), as samsung does not sell cellphones to consumers directly in Mexico, only through 3 carriers,but all these comments make doubt about updating from nougat, reading this thread has made my uncertainty bigger, in the meantime, I disabled OTA updates, just in case, maybe waiting for Oreo 8.1 would be better

I am using Performance mode with no Brightness increase and AOD is always on.

You can't accurately judge/assess battery life in increments. Go through a few full cycles and see what averages out.

A complete disaster. That Dip is 45 minutes paying music with the screen off.
I've had it for two weeks, cleared cache and dalvik all that. I need know how to downgrade.
Google has been iffy. I have the unlocked Samsung note 8, I use it on Verizon. Bought it directly from Sammy

I have achieved 1800 hours Screen Off Time. Even better when the device is powered down totally. Quite amamzing.
