Rate this thread to express how the BlackBerry KEYone performs when multitasking. A higher rating indicates that the BlackBerry KEYone keeps many apps in memory so that they don't need to reload, and that when moving between apps, transitions are smooth and performance is excellent.

considering pro of having the physical keyboard, the multi-window experience is solid! although the screen is tiny.
Avg RAM usage is 73% (it uses 2GB out of 3.) on Wire, Chrome, WhatsApp, BBM, HUB, AirDroid, Twitter, Instagram, and Floating Apps
OS is taking 0.9GB
Android System 117MB
BlackBerry Launcher is also 117MB
System UI 104MB
the rest fall around 60MB
jumping from an app to another is also seamless. compared to the Z5 Premium and the note 5, the Keyone is actually faster!
Twitter, however, seems to be the killing point here. it takes 3 seconds to load the interface and another moment to load tweets :/
as I posted, 3GM of RAM is a nerve wrecking, the idea of choppy performance is always in your head. Android system+UI+basic apps consume roughly half of the memory.
but so far, it seems to perform like a champ with multi-window and switching between applications with no obvious delay.

Why is my Captivate so laggy?!
It typically takes 3 seconds to get from my homescreen to the dial pad when I click phone and every other app takes at least 3 seconds as well. After the app has been launched, it doesn't take as long to bring it up next time as expected however, having too many apps up lags my phone like crazy and makes it lag even more when opening new apps. I always have at least 50 mb of RAM free. Closing apps and clearing my memory makes it go back to a 3 second open time.
I've used Serendipity 6.x, MIUI, and now I'm on Serendipity 7. Between the time I went from MIUI to Serendipity 7, I hard bricked my phone and got it completely wiped. Even after a fresh clean install, Serendipity continues to lag. EXT4 lagfix is on of course.
Even comparing it to my friend's Fascinate running 2.2, his Fascinate smokes my Captivate by a long shot!
Does anyone have any ideas?
Your memory is kinda low I avg 80mb free. What are you running on your phone? Widgets apps etc. Btw a better tittle would be recommended.
With Facebook, Google Voice, Aim, and Browser running in the background with 0% CPU usage, I have about 50 mb free. I also have 1 widget on every homescreen with 4 homescreens total. If I clear everything, I have about 120 mb free and things are slightly snappier (about 2-3 seConds to open an app) but after I open google voice and Facebook, things get Laggy again.

Theres no way you have all that running and 0% cpu usage. Especially if any of those widgets are live widgets or refresh at any time.
Read the following article on how android uses RAM and what could actually be slowing down your phone. I read this article a few weeks back and sacrificed a few liked (but obviously poorly coded) apps that resulted in me getting better battery life and a faster phone.
Heres the article: http://lifehacker.com/5650894/androi...uldnt-use-them
I don't like have Facebook running it tends to slow down my phone, I just keep the widget on. 80% of the times your phone is laggy or slow because you have alot of things running OR you are using poorly codded apps.
When was the last time u rebooted?
Sorry Facebook, aim, and etc were apps, not widgets. They are usually idle and use 0% if the CPU. As for widgets, I have some beautiful widgets and pure grid calendar widgets. My bad for not specifying. I'll also take a look at the article asap. I'm desperate for better performance lol.
They can't use 0% if u have background data on. Matter of fact, they can't use 0% period if there RUNNING

This. If your phone is on your CPU is running. I mean, it has to process the information from whatever app you are using to view your CPU usage. Make sure to read the part about the CPU in the article and the watchdog app.
I got my Xperia Z1 about a month ago, and I've noticed some issues with RAM management (or possibly under-optimized third-party apps). Although I haven't had much luck in replicating the problem, I noticed it happen a few times after a Firefox internet session, or after playing a graphically intensive game like Dead Trigger 2. The app would either close by itself (not crash, as in, there were no error messages), or, after I'd close it, I'd notice my launcher (Nova Launcher Prime) go into a restart loop. A quick glance at the running apps section in settings shows 50-100 MB of free ram, and all "constantly running" apps (launcher, viber, zooper widget, k9-mail, swiftkey, tasker, etc.) stuck, for want of a better phrase, in a restarting loop (due to lack of ram I guess).
I tried running Fast Reboot (a task killer) to see if I could regain stability of the system, but it kills only a few system tasks, freeing up to a measly 50 MB of RAM, which makes me wonder (in aggravation) just where the RAM is being used. The only way the running apps would stop closing and restarting (and I need the launcher stable) is to reboot. I'm not sure if the system would stabilize after x minutes, as I only waited for a minute or two before rebooting so that I could open another app/game.
I'm not trying to start yet another debate on necessity of used RAM on Android and efficiency/futility of task managers/killers, but what I described above really seems like poor RAM management to me. I've had a few android devices in the past, and experienced various problems /errors, but never something like this.
Has anybody had a similar issue, or have any tips?
My Xperia Z1 C6903 is currently running on rooted stock 14.2.A.0.290
Although i dont get force closes, but ive noticed most of the ram is taken by the phone itself, right now for me it says i have 1.1gb in use, when i close everything i have just a slight (barely even noticeable) increase in free ram, when i click on cached processes and close all one by one ive seen it increases the ram use instead of decreasing it?
But, do you use apps like setcpu? You can keep it on performance and keep the min slider to the lowest and the max slider to max, it runs stable and gives you performance when you need it, and no performance when you dont need it.
If all fails, try deleting system apps that you barely even use or need... Becareful what you delete tho!

Thanks for the reply. No, I've used apps like that in the past, but haven't installed anything similar on the Z1, because I noticed in BetterBatteryStats that the CPU speed goes down often when the screen is off, and up when, I suppose, it's required, such as in intensive games...
What apps do you use? For example facebook, YouTube, browser etc
Ive checked again on my cached apps and to my surprise, AOSP browser takes up 208mb!
Facebook takes up 48mb, and youtube takes up 22mb.
It just depends on the apps you have installed, some use the ram even while the phone is asleep.
Ive stopped those and a huge difference was made on freeing up my ram!
What i dont get is tho why sony advertises 2.2ghz quadcore if the phone itself takes most of it?
Just delete the apps you dont need from "all apps".
Hello Everyone,
With all my previous Samsung Galaxy devices, I have experienced this lag or delay in Previewing the photo after taking the photo from Samsung camera app. I have used Note 1, Note 2, S4, they all had this lag/delay after sometime of use.
Now I am experiencing the same lag/delay with my Note 4! Its international N910F Snagdragon, I was really impressed with the smoothness and fluidity of Note 4 but this one thing and the Recent Apps lag. When I clear the ram it gets bit better.
So Actually problem could be of excessive usage of RAM which is tooo much! with no app running on front ground it uses 2GB RAM, I am attaching the photos of my RAM Status with all the apps open and also with no active apps, so if you guys can see and let me know if it is just me or its serious problem with Note 4.
Thanks
I have learned from reading the treads that Unused RAM space is a waste. My Exynos is showing very similar RAM usage to yours.
Do you experience the camera app lag as well?
Sent from my SM-N910F using XDA Free mobile app
Recent Apps lag - yes. Probably get solved in Lollipop.
Camera Apps lag - no but after taking photo and preview slow open - yes it is extremely.
My RAM usage is usually 2.4 out of the available 2.7, this was very worrisome when I first got the phone but I just kept using it without debloating and I don't notice any slowdowns, delays or lag. Yes, the recents menu sometimes takes about 200 ms to appear compared to the usual 20 or 30 but it's not a big deal, it's barely noticeable, the home screen doesn't have to redraw after playing Real Racing 3, Chrome opens up in about 1 second (which is a HUGE difference, compared to the 6+ seconds it took for my S3 to open) and there's no delay when opening the dialer or settings apps like it used to on older Touchwiz devices.
At the end of the day, I simply forget about it and just keep using my phone, it's been performing better than expected. :good:
I debloat the **** out of my N910U
Turned off every app that can be disabled except essentials
(root) Used "disable service" to disable everything that has nothing to do with my usage
(root) Greenify everything except chat app
forced uninstalled all google app
I am still on stock rom and tw, UI smoothness and battery is much better than stock
but that recent app lag is still present so i dont think it has anything to do with ram
I dont feel camera lag that youve mentioned
Hey guys. After a restart I am usually sitting at around 425 mb of free RAM. Most of the apps I run are light, FB Lite, Smart Keyboard Pro, etc. so it runs pretty fast to me, but it seems to slow down significantly when it gets to the low 300's. I am annoyed everytime I see the Amazon Video App (or Whisperplay Daemon) constantly running even though I don't use it or know what it is for. Most all my apps I use are third party.
How much ram do you guys with this device usually have free and is there any tips to get even more. I do not have a PC and obviously we can't root 5.4 right now.

FireOS uses several techniques (KSM, ZRAM, aggresive swapping) to insure apps will not force close due to limited resources. Downside is a significant degradation in performance. You can not tune these parameters nor prevent preinstalled apps from aggravating the situation without root permissions.
Two options:
- limit the number of apps you launch; swipe them away when finished
- reduce the number of preinstalled apps by running a debloat script
If you opt for the latter be sure to read through the caveats; you will probably want to make some modifications to the default script.
Hi All,
Don't post that often but wanted to post some advice on improvements you can make to the S21 and Ultra, I have the S21 Ultra but recently purchased the S21 as I wanted something smaller.
Was pleasantly surprised how good the standard S21 is, great battery life and photos along with the form factor.
Anyway, I was getting annoyed with a number of things on the S21 Ultra and was close to selling it. I then took about researching some of the settings and the phone is now fantastic, managed all of this without root
Anything not used often put into Deep Sleep (battery settings), this also limits abuse by some apps with background activity like facebook who collect various system information and all sorts of other data to used for analysis etc
Turned off 5g and 4K resolution (Biggest battery hogs) but left at Adaptive refresh
Turn off "Improved accuracy" in location settings (will only drain your battery and gather more info to send to google etc)
Stopped using Chrome as it a battery hog plus a privacy / advertising nightmare - Found Brave which is fantastic, chromium based and a lot faster and stops most ads. You will be shocked how many trackers, ads and non essential cookies are blocked that don't impact the experience . Tweak Brave and it's awesome, I now use it on all my personal and work phones/laptops and synch settings between them. Set as default and disabled Chrome
Debloat - Remove a lot of the Samsung rubbish that slows down your phone using ADB (Doesn't require root) https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/what-to-debloat-from-adb-s21-ultra.4222547/ - Only debloat what you don't need, some are overkill
Switched my launcher to a new one called Niagara launcher - So nice to use and a lot cleaner and less resource intensive the OneUI
The display was driving me crazy - Natural was a bland mess of Grey, Vivid as too bright. Once again with ADB you can change the display to use Android defaults . Adobe Photo is perfect for me.https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/color-saturation-accuracy.4191115/#post-84400787
Doesn't take long to do but this is a different phone for both performance and battery (Accubattery is stating 8 - 10 SOT), will report back in a few days once it's bedded in more.
Battery life after doing this with Exynos is now great, 5 hours SOT with 48% left
A couple of small charges whilst in the car
Great tips!
Thanks.
Anyone have safe debloat list of apps? I don't want to mess...
This is pretty good and what I used: https://krispitech.com/galaxy-s20-bloatware/
