How is the audio recording on Mi Mix? - Xiaomi Mi MIX Questions & Answers

This is one of my primary uses for a phone as I need to constantly record lectures/meetings. LG V20 is probably the best device for this but I mostly need the recording to be clear without much background noise. Will Mi Mix be sufficient for this?

Doubtful, better you buy a separate recording device or stick with the v20.

Whether Camera2API enabled or not?

Can anyone confirm Whether Camera2API enabled or not by default?
I think my Mi A2 will arrive in nex 6/8 days, when i'll got it i'll can confirm or not the compatibility with camera 2 api, i will use this application to test compatibility https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.airbeat.device.inspector and report the check
I have the same question.
While I am getting more and more frustrated with my A1, the A2 still looks to be a nice phone for the money, and with Treble support maybe less problems than the A1? I am not at all sure that I will consider another Xiaomi phone after the frustrations with the A1, but never say never. With Honor and Huawei not allowing bootloader unlocking, they are off the table immediately. With Moto being a dog anymore in this space, they are off the table. That leaves limited choices for less than flagship prices.
If any of you Android gurus have suggestions on good phones in the mid-range segment, say less than $350 or so, please enlighten me.

Asus phones? They seem pretty good nowadays since they have stockish roms and easily unlocked bootloaders

Hmm Go for Asus Zenfone Max M1 Pro it's great phone under your budget
Btw, as i have never used any xiaomi phone so maybe I'm gonna start with this A2 (still not sure confused between Note 5 Pro, Mi8 SE) my main motive is like you buy phone and unlock BL right away tho not in case of xiaomi unless it's A1 and A2.
Have a nice day,
Best Regards.
Thanks for the suggestions guys. I typically never look at ASUS due to their ZenUI (and my rather BAD experiences with 2 of their computers), but it appears from reading about the Asus Zenfone Max M1 Pro that they have cleaned this up considerably. I like the large battery and QC 836 SOC, and running 8.1 means it should be fairly quick to update. The only downside I see with that phone is the camera. It seems to be pretty weak, even compared to the A1.
Like you @UnknownAly027 I am waiting to see if the 8 SE is released where I live. It might be a worthwhile phone, even though not Android One.

Sorry for the noob question, what does the result of API-Probe mean? "Legacy" isn't the result that we hoped for, ist it? What would be the best result, "Level 3"?
Is API2 supported or not? Is GCAM working with HDR+ an portrait-mode?
Edit: It seems to be not supported. Here is an article about "Camera2 API probe"
The information below will give you the easiest explanation of what each term means.
Level-3 – The OEM of the device has added some additional features to the camera hardware.
Full – The smartphone fully supports Camera2 API.
Limited – The phone supports only some of the features of Camera2 API.
Legacy – Your Android smartphone only supports the Camera1 API features. So, no support for Camera2 API.

But for now it's not sure if we can enable it, right? Can you enable it on your Mi A2 lite with full support?
For me it's very important if we can get Camera2API without permanent root because I wan't to use Gcam and also banking apps on my daily driver phone. Banking apps often don't work when root is activated.

i have tried to enable it using the same step / tools for Mi A1. but that wont work as currently we didnt have TWRP specifically for Mi A2 & Mi A2 lite
Here is said, that the Mi A2 Camera App is ported to Redmi Note 5:
https://www.xda-developers.com/xiaomi-mi-a2-camera-ported-xiaomi-redmi-note-5-pro/
And also it is said, that therefore Camera2API must be enabled on Redmi Note 5. Does that mean, that Camera2API is enabled on the Mi A2 because without it the camera app seems to be not working?

i think same scenario for A1. We have to root the device and unable camera API2 manually

Same here, maybe someone can find a way to boot into recovery without unlock bootloader and then flash a zip to edit build prop and enable camera 2 API, or maybe we can just unlock bootloader, boot into recovery , flash zip and relock bootloader ( relocking bootloader as far as i know only erase data partition so build.prop file keep untached and modified) but we have to do this procedure ad every update if build.prop change at every update... I think another way can be ask to xiaomi to enable API 2 by default with next update since android one can be edited by tehm... anyway, i hope for a not invasive solution

Bad sound quality on videos

Hi,
I have a MI8 with MIUI 9 Global, the 9.5.13, and i recorded a video today on a loud environment, and the sound is really bad, if it is too loud, you can't really hear anything because i assume it tries to remove background noise and ends up messing up everything, even my Redmi note 3 pro has better results. Is there any software fix, some custom camera app, or anything that i can do to try and fix it? Is it even just me?
Thanks.
Hello,
Can you share the video? I wanna hear if it's like on my redmi note 4 when I record a video in loud concerts.
Thanks
Just update to miui 10 and the sound will be great. It was a bug on miui 9

MIUI 10 does not resolve the issue. He is most likely talking about how it picks up ambient noise and seems to amplify it. If you have a standard in door house fan or an AC on, you will hear it in the video, something that most other phones don't really pick up, or at least not nearly as much as the Mi 8. It's annoying and was one of the main reasons I was going to purchase the Mi Mix 2S instead. In the end I chose the Mi 8 due to the better battery life. This was one of the videos I watched to compare the cameras, and you can really see the difference between the two.

Camera Audio Bitrate

I haven't received the device yet, but according to GSMArena's review & some users on the MIUI forums, the Mi 9 records audio in 92Kbps, compared to the Mix 3 that records at 192Kbps, is there anyway to improve this? Apparently it makes the audio in recorded videos sound bad quality & hollow
Most stations broadcasting online use 96Kbps AAC encoding and the results are more than adequate. Hopefully the issue with the MI 9 complains is not the microphone. Because if the analogue output of the microphone feeds the digital encoder junk, it's going to produce digital junk no matter the kbps rate. Please let me know of your findings when you receive your unit as I am very interested in it too.

From my understanding the Mix 3 records audio at 196Kbps, in my opinion that's the best Xiaomi device for recording audio compared to others, not sure why the Mi 9 was set to 96Kbps, guess we'll have to wait & see

I ordered MI 9 6GB/128GB Global edition from Greece yesterday. I should have it by the end of the week. Concerning the audio, can't we just use a different software for video recording? Isn't that a software setting?

I may be mistaken but I think opencamera let's you change audio bitrate, other than that, you have to be rooted to make any changes
Any updates on this, has it been fixed or is there a workaround?

Question How to improve video quality (4k details)

Hi,
I noticed the bit rate in video recording on the S21 ultra is significantly lower than the competition's and I think this is why the video doesn't look as sharp (because the photos are better than that of the same competitors). Is there anyway to make it record at higher bit rate to get properly good results?
It seems like Samsung artificially decreases the quality of the video for some unknown reason. Do you think there is a chance Samsung will fix it in future update?
Thanks
yes you should use 3rd party software like FilmicPro & mcpro24fps
I will give it a try, but usually the HDR capabilities of 3rd party apps are not as good, as well as stabilization.
Filmic Pro also still doesn't support 10bit or [email protected]
Is there a way to get rid of the oversharpened look of videos in the main app?
it supports both , you cant control anything in stock apps

Since the last 1 or 2 updates it now supports both.
Stabilization seems quite bad, though. Edit: This due to the stabilization being turned off, probably....
The FilmicPro is really underwhelming in low light:

Why does filmic fail to impress you? It is significantly better if you look at it from a more experienced perspective. Original is overbrightenned and denoised to a hurtful point so it looks blurry almost.
The filmic one is more realistic and much sharper. The noise is easy to remove in post.
Plus filmic has plenty of quality and denoise settings which could be turned on and off and adjusted. We don't know what the Korean guy in the video has for his settings in Filmic.
it supports only OIS though which makes 4k60 as shaky as it was on Mi 8 back in the day, so you need gimbal or something of sorts, + one thing it doesn't sort is 2x less detail compared to 4k30, i get higher detail with Filmic on 4k60 with S20 Ultra with a generation older sensor than what i get with S21 Ultra so i avoid using 4k60 completely on that phone

Question Rear display use

Hi Friends , Have anyone idea about rear display use?.
I can use for it for selfie but nothing else. I want use like front display in rear display
If you have any idea, pls share with me
If you flash the Xiaomi.eu rom (weekly), you can also use it to record video, as well as, for selfies, music controller and notifications.

Xiaomi has not released that feature yet to their global rom It is currently only available in their beta version of the China rom, which Xiaomi.eu is based on, so it has that feature available now in their weekly rom.
It's not pratical to be used like front display. you can use it to answer/reject calls or change music, but i can tell you the number of times i place the phone on the table facing down by the fingers in my hand
It could be used as a light source(bright white) for close up shots but then again you can do it with flash as well.
I wished they had replaced it for one of these Macro/microscope/nightvision/thermal/blackandwhite camera
and add a mirror that does square so you can see yourself instead of a amoled screen
I would also like to see somethings like on OPPO new continuous zoom lens.
Oppo introduces true continuous zoom lens for smartphones
It should be sharp at every step from 85 to 200mm

Still in beta, so we can't expect everything at this point. However, the majority don't use pro mode anyways. Just like most people don't shoot in RAW, so the fact that a small minority of users aren't happy, doesn't really matter in the larger scheme of things. Patience grasshopper.

Im sorry, there's nothing anyone can do about that. The rear display combination with the rear camera is still in beta and whenever they release it to the general public, no one knows and whether or not it includes pro mode, there is nothing I can do about that, otherwise you can take my advice and download Xiaomi.eu weekly, which is based on the beta China rom to be able to use the rear camera with video features. BTW, who needs pro mode for selfies anyways?

I think there is more frustration with this particular phone because it was expensive ( by Xiaomi standards) and a lot of people who bought it are inexperienced noobs who want it to work like an iphone 12 pro max but even though the hardware is stacked the software is atrocious
Combine that with the low international sales count compared to the s21u etc and you're not going to have a lot of development going on
If I wasn't able to get the 12/512 for China mainland price I also would have bought another phone
The camera simply isn't as good as it should be and you will notice the 108mp cheaper regular mi 11 camera often takes more detailed pictures ( except zoom or night shots )
, if this camera was actually good they would have used it in the mi mix 4 and the mi 11t pro but looks like even Xiaomi know they dropped the ball here and tried to sell it on spec alone without the necessary software to back it up
