I have run across Nexus 6 phones that need updating.
Last update on them November 2016
Some are several updates behind then of course
Okay to use just the latest 7.1.1 update or instal each update one after the other to bring up to date
Thanks in Advance

If you use the full OTA you can sideload, or use the full factory image via fastboot. You will most likely be updating the bootloader.

You must bee 100% stock for OTA to flash. Look here for some more info:

I'm confused why TWRP is detecting my nexus 6 a version LRX22G but it's clearly in LMY47D, what seems to be the problem here?
I used version 5.1 without force encryption, maybe this could be related to my issue.
What exactly are you trying to sideload?

You cannot sideload an OTA unless your system (including recovery) is 100% stock. Are you trying to update using an official OTA?

Sadly, I did.. so the only way I could update my nexus to 5.1.1 is to revert back to being stock? or is there another way?

I had xposed installed and then the OTA notification came so I wanted to get rid of xposed. I just did a full reset pretty much and downloaded 5.0 22.46-11 from Motorola's website and flashed it. I noticed, however, that they incremented the release key or something from
motorola/victara_tmo/victara:5.0/LXE22.46-11/10:user/release-keys

to

My OTA went away and I cannot sideload any OTA update files because the release keys don't match. Will I still receive the OTA eventually or do I need to try and find an old 22.46-11 image?
If you use the image from Motorola, you won't get OTA. Reflash using graffixNYC 5.0 image, you should get OTA update.

Does anyone know if there's a way to install the monthly updates without losing root? Does it make you lose root?

No successful install of OTA's needs complete stock. Every (small) change will cause failure.
So as of now no way to install monthly updates?

Just fastboot flash only the system image, then boot to recovery and reflash supersu

Depends. I am using the lite Rom of Danvdh and that rom is kept up to date.
I meant the stock rom @NLBeev. @scryan where do I find the system.img? Is that the one they post on the Google website?

Yeah, you download the image from https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images?hl=en then extract it, you will see IIRC the radio and bootloader images, a few scripts and a update.zip, extract that too and it will have system, boot, ect.... Just flash the system one for incremental upgrades/monthlies with fastboot.
This will wipe root, and anything like xposed, so keep them on your phone and after you finish with fastboot use the volume keys to reboot into recovery to reflash supersu or whatever you use for root, and xposed or anything else like that you use.
Title says all. This is for the American Retail variant. Does not include Oreo.
Glad to see that Moto is being consistent with Security patches though!

This is for all varients

The day before I saw the update notification, but didn't update as I wanted to backup some of my files. Later when I checked for update the notification was gone. Says phone is upto date with March patch.

Hi all,
I've just applied the 01 April Security Patch and my phone has rebooted into TWRP. If I select to reboot, it starts to reboot and goes back into TWRP. Any ideas as to how I can get it to reboot back to normal ?
So I'm basically stuck in a TWRP Bootloop
Thanks in advance

Hi, you should know that you can't get updates via OTA once you have modified system, and unlocking bootloader and flashing TWRP is certainly a system modification, so I really hope that you made a TWRP backup before trying to update. In case you didn't, try flashing official firmware using fastboot, also there is one post in XDA with a TWRP backup in case you messed up, if you can't use fastboot or don't have a backup, try using that one. Remember to NEVER update via OTA unless your phone is fully unmodified.
