My headphone jack was broken so I opened the phone and replaced it with a new one (https://www.amazon.de/dp/B06XCLKX28...2455538&sr=8-1&keywords=z3+compact+audio+jack). When I put everything together I forgot to connect my screen at first. After turning the phone on I received my Whatsapp messages on Whatsapp Web so I would say it booted this time. As the screen wasn't working I shut the phone down and connected the screen properly. After turning it one again, the screen was working perfectly fine but since then the phone doesn't boot. It comes to the screen with the 4 colorful bouncing dots but after some time it stucks and it turns on again (bootloop). I can normally enter the recovery and mount all the storages.
Facts of my phone:
- D5803 Sony Z3 Compact
- dualrecovery (https://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/development/z3c-xzdualrecovery-qa-t3014208)
- SLIMM custom rom 6.0.1 (https://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/development/rom-slimm-t3359831)
What I already tried:
- looking if all the connections to the motherboard are connected properly
- factory reset and wiping cache and dalvik cache
- installing the custom rom again
Do you have any tips what I could have done wrong or try to do to fix it?

Greetings,
I'm not experienced with android devices, so i thought i'd ask here first before trying to do anything.
Since a few months ago some weird things started happening to my X8 - random display glitches and blackouts at completely random intervals (sometimes one or even two a day, sometimes it can last two or more weeks w/o an incident, i haven't figured out any relation yet).
Glitches manifest in distorted view on screen - shifted up/down/sideways - or colored graphics artefacts - up to completely bizarre patterns of random-colored pixels covering the whole screen. Weirdly enough, pushing power button as if to lock the screen usually alleviates the issue, sometimes i need to do it few times to remove completely, but it works. Touchscreen works fine, but i need to tap the "right" spot on the screen, not where it's displayed on the screen ("right" as in where the element is when the screen is not glitching).
The other issue (may be related) i'm having with the phone is random screen "blackouts" - the screen goes completely black and the power button cycling doesn't help - but the phone still reacts to screen input (i.e. i can unlock the screen by dragging the slider, launch app, start/stop music playback and so on). I can see the backlight on, so it's definitely screen/gfx hardware issue, not backlight. If i try to reboot the phone, it hangs on either shutdown or boot up. Removing the battery, placing it back and booting the phone up doesn't help - it vibrates as usual, i see the backlight go up, but screen stays black and i can't interact with the phone even if i leave it there for a few minutes (which is more than enough for it to boot up - it usually takes ~30 seconds till full boot). Also the backlight won't go off. It usually helps to boot normally if i hit the phone with a palm on the back side and/or leave it alone for a while. This issue is much more rare (only had it three times), but it puts the phone out of service for a while, so it's an issue for me.
Now, the device info:
Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 E15i
015 baseband
10W44
Unlocked bootloader
Alfs8 kernel (2.6.29.6-Alfs v08a 24/03/2012)
GingerDX v026 ROM
No cpu tweaks done, cpu governor "ONDEMAND", cpu speeds 122-600.
The glitches started when i was still using the older version, GindgerDX v013 with locked bootloader, i have done factory reset and flashed a new version with new kernel (and unlocked the loader along the way), but apparently it did not help fix the issues.
I can't provide and screenshots/photos of the issue because the only camera i have access to at most times when it happens is my phone one and, obviously, i can't use that in this case
The question is: can i still try to fix it by myself (i can do it if it doesn't involve disassembling the phone completely - i don't have the screwdrivers required) by software tweaks or other techniques or should i reflash stock kernel/rom, apply for warranty and hope they find the defect and fix it? I really do like the phone. Or, maybe, you have encountered anything resembling these issues and may shed some light on what's happening.
Appreciate any input in trying to figure out and fix this.
Thank you if you have read all this even if you can't help me, cheers!
1st problem could be 'Screen Cut' issue which is solved using kernel without FPS Cap...
2nd problem usually happens on my phone with miniCM9 3.0.2 but shows splash and boot animation...
Can you see the splash screen and the bootanimation? Because my friends' Xperia Ray has the issue on official firmware... so it could be hardware damage...
Try unlocking the screen then press the power button then press it again...
and also try flashing the stock firmware... If it doesn't work... I think you should live with it...
Sounds like a hardware problem to me. Reflash stock kernel and ROM and full wipe and then flash a different ROM and see it it still happens. If it does I think it is advisable to send it to Sony for repair.

Thanks for your replies, i'll try reflashing the stock rom and see if it still happens.
@Lily48: no, no splashcreen or boot animation, just black screen and visible backlight.
I have the same problem and I checked it many times and my conclusion is....ITS A HARDWARE PROBLEM NOT SOFTWARE..

Well, notify me if you find a solution, thanks
Sorry for double post, but this is important update:
My phone died this morning with the permanent black screen syndrome. Until i rebooted i could use it to receive phone calls or even listen to music (i knew where to touch to activate the features). However it would not boot sompletely after restart, even if i leave it for ~hour. Connecting to flashtool showed that it does boot to a certain stage, but no GUI (for user interaction with haptic feedback) available - the flashtool does show that device connected with usb debugging enabled.
I reflashed the stock ROM, now it's apparently stuck in some sort of bootloop - it keeps on connecting and disconnecting. But the screen is still black, with backlight. If i remove the battery, replace it and just connect to pc w/o trying to boot on, it acts normally as if trying to charge - backlight activates for a few seconds if i touch a key and green led is lit, but still the screen is black.
I will RMA it tomorrow, thanks for help, hopefully i'll get a new one, or they'll repair this one so it does not glitch on me again. Anyway it was/is a good phone, i absolutely love it.
Wish me luck =]

It is a hardware problem and Sony Service Center is the last option you have.. if your X8 is in warranty period.
I did the same and they replaced its display with new one.
Hello, reporting back in:
Just got my X8 back, it really was a hardware problem. They changed the screen now it works as good as new =]
Thanks everyone for support
I'd like to take a moment to document the various issues I had with this phone, and how I solved some of them, I still have some more things to test, but hopefully this write-up helps at least one other person Google-ing for an answer.
Phone Configuration:
C6906 Z1 -- Came with Canadian customized JB ROM at first, updated to 4.4.4 Kitkat using Sony PC Companion after testing magnetic charging w/ aftermarket cable (didn't work)
Magnetic cable: generic $3.50 one from eBay (with try another one with better reviews (aftermarket w/ aluminum housing) in ~2 weeks)
A/C Adapter--Original 1.5V adapter
Bootloader always kept locked
Issues:
1. [Semi-resolved] At first (on JB), magnetic charging didn't work--would display "charging" and then flash the orange LED after 5 sec, in and out of "charging" state
2. [Not resolved] After updating to 4.4.4 build 108, magnetic charging now displays as "charging" and the LED remains solid. However, the phone battery doesn't actually charge.
3. [Resolved] When the phone was plugged in with USB charging, the screen would randomly "wake" up.
These issues appear after rooting:
4. [Resolved] When I shut down the phone by holding down the power button, the phone displays the "Sony" logo and then black, and then immediately attempts to boot again, as if I pressed "restart".
5. [Semi-resolved] When the phone boots up, it would display the Sony logo, then go black, and then back to the Sony logo in a bootloop. It would not go to the Xperia logo and complete booting unless I held down the volume button when powering on (it wouldn't even display
Resolutions:
1. New issues after updating to KitKat
2. Not resolved
3. This was fixed after I flashed to the US customization and updated all apps. No issues after rooting and removing some system bloatware.
4. Resolved by resetting the cache (hold Power and Vol Up, phone will vibrate 3 times)
5. Appeared to be resolved, until I had to reset the cache when I got a bootloop after removing some more bloatware.
Flash/root process:
1. Flashtool 0.9.18.3 w/ C6906_4.4.4_US.ftf
2. Updated all apps, and performed a system update
3. Rooted using EasyRootTool v12.3
4. Removed bloatware using System App Remover
5. Cleared cache, rebooted
Did you install the xposed framework after rooting ?
Nz
After downgrading my firmware to .93 using flashtool in order to root my phone with giefroot, I upgraded to .77 and remained to have root access. I booted it up and it was working fine in the first week until one night I was using it without any problems and then it suddenly displays its screen off animation. After that I tried pressing all buttons and I couldn't get it to boot up. I tried charging for a few hours and it shows a red LED light then tried hard-reset, reboot, and I can't even boot it to flashmode. Also tried yellow button under nano sim cover but no luck. :crying:
Edit: Based on my area, it seems there are a number of people experiencing this problem. And It also doesn't seems to have to do anything with the rooting. Might be a manufacturing fault. Anyway I'm sending my phone to a service center nearby and I might have to send it away if it can't be fixed.
Hi,
I have a problem with my Xperia Z. I can't start the device. I had this problem once before, and honestly I don't know what exactly I did, but it worked (I guess I connected new LCD, started device, then connected old LCD - it worked, so I glued on device and was using it. In the meantime I was flashing it 1000 times and doing whatever I read in web).
BUT when battery was 100% I decided to turn it of just to see if it will turn on (becasue I wanted to sell this phone, don't want any problems with selling not fully working phone) and gues what- it doesn't turn on....
Soft reset - vibrate working
Hard reset - 3x vibrate working
power on - vibrate working
flashmode - no problem
fastboot - no prolem
soft upgrade via PCC - no problem
soft upgrade via Flashtool- no problem
LED icon - working fine.
But it is just not turning on (LCD isn't showing anything, folder with files is not showing in computer).
Phone has locked (Unlock Bootloader Allowed:NO) bootloader so I'm rather limited. Warranty is of course not possible.
Looking forward to hear from you, hope you guys have any idea what to do.
partially solved- it is not software problem.
problem is with LCD - it is not possible to turn on the phone with this LCD (checked on second xperia z) but this weird LCD works normally when connected AFTER booting on with different LCD. Tested few times on 2 different c6603
Any ideas how is it possible ?
Your lcd broken

Hi all, forgive me if this has already been asked in some form.
My girlfriends Verizon Moto X lost battery one day while she was playing a game. After she charged and tried booting again, it just booted to a black screen. It still runs through the full boot animation. Weirdly enough, active display will still show her information (and can be interacted with until unlocked), and holding power will bring up a power menu for shutdown. The camera gesture also works to launch it, but you can't interact with anything at all. Safe mode provides the exact same issues.
She is running the latest 5.1 update and is fully stock. She also does not wish to root or flash a custom recovery.
I have tried to pull the data, which windows recognizes as a media device, but shows empty when clicked on. OSx immediately says that the storage can not be accessed over android file transfer. I plugged it in for ADB but ADB won't seem to find it when its turned on. It is recognized in fastboot though. I also wiped the cache via the stock recovery, but that didn't help.
I believe a factory reset will be the solution to the black screen, but she has a bunch of photos she would really like to save. Is there anyway for me to actually get them off of the phone? If she can get those, I can get it factory reset for her no problem.
Thanks for any advice!
The exact same thing has happened to my girlfriend's phone as well and I'm also looking for a solution to recover the data. Moto X (2014) Pure, 5.1
The device boots. The Motorola boot animation plays all the way through, the screen brightness dims slightly as normal, and then the Amber Alert from the previous night vibrates the phone several times and displays over a fully black background. There are no soft buttons and no status bar. The home screen appears not to have loaded (yet?)
Attempts to click "OK" to close the alert fail.
The phone is hot. It is working hard. Something stuck in a loop?
The power button will bring up the "Power Off" prompt with no issues. The animation plays smoothly and the phone can be powered off as normal. The phone is able to recognize touch input here.
Calling the phone while it's on will play a ringtone. It is receiving calls.
Plugging the phone into a computer will show up as an MTP device. However, there are no contents listed.
Sometimes, the phone will prompt that the "System" process is not responding and will ask to close it. This has no effect.
Booting into Safe Mode has no effect.
Clearing the application cache from recovery mode has no effect.
I have a CSE degree but absolutely no Android experience. Forensics on a NAND dump or something like that isn't out of the question, unless it's not possible. Hope you're able to get some help.

I am having the exact same issue. Has anybody had a luck resolving it short of a factory reset?
My phone battery died last night. I plugged my phone in, let it get about 15% charge, then tried to turn it back on. The phone boots like normal, but after the boot animation goes away, the screen is black. Active notifications still seem to work, and I can hold the power button to get the Power Down option. I can boot into the bootloader & access recovery just fine. However, my phone is fully stock (no root, no bootloader unlock, no anything). I can't seem to access ADB when the phone is powered normally (ie, when I'm at this mysterious black screen), but it's possible that USB debugging isn't even enabled.
So far, I've found a bunch people who've said a full factory reset will fix the problem, but I'm looking for another solution, or at least a way to grab my data before I reset. Since my bootloader's still locked, I can't seem to use fastboot boot to boot into TWRP, and I can't find any other way to access my data to copy it off the phone. I've tried wiping the cache using the stock recovery to no avail. Any suggestions?
Update?
Hello,
I am having this issue as well.
Unfortunately I am unable to perform any form of factory reset, the bootloader also just brings me to the black screen and I am unable to use soft keys. The kicker for me is that I cannot connect to my PC with a working USB. I used to have that available and now no device is recognized.
