Just got a Chinese version p10. The model number is VTR-AL00, Build number is VTR-AL00C00B140. Checked this forum and did not find any root guide for VTR-AL00. Is it safe to use L09/L29 root method on AL00? Also, there is a new software version VTR-AL00C00B141 available for me. Can I update before rooting?
Thanks in advance.
Should work, but I don't know if there're some "special Features" by the Chinese government which can block root.
The real question is if you want to rebrand your phone to L29 for better community support.

I wasn't able to on a VKY-AL00. Flash seemed to work but the phone ended up not rooted (Per root-checker, Titanium etc.). If you make it work, please let me know which TWRP and SU you used. Thanks!

This TWRP can't read my internal storage, like so many others I've tried (Except OldDroid's version). According to some other threads, it may have to do with the EEMC storage on my device.

I find this https://forum.xda-developers.com/p10/development/testers-twrp-t3585256.Have you tried? This is the newest.
I use this twrp and that SuperSU-v2.81-EMUI5-P10-init.d-SelPermissive.zip leading to success on my L29.
Maybe there is really a limitation in Chinese P10.
---------- Post added at 11:10 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:52 AM ----------
BTW, are you a Chinese?
I rebrand my VTR-AL00 successfully.
So maybe you can try to edit hwota.sh as my settings.
edit:
on line 288 , change /dev/block/sdd5 to /dev/block/mmcblk0p9
on line 318 , change /dev/block/sdd33 to /dev/block/mmcblk0p37
on line 319 , change /dev/block/sdd30 to /dev/block/mmcblk0p34
You should select 1. SDCard HWOTA directory.
After running the script , system will NOT be flashed in.
But you can run the script to check if oeminfo is flashed.
If it is, use three keys dload (三键强刷).
Or you can offer your QQ or Wechat, I can offer more help.

It is really really great news for AL00 users! Can you provide more details about those files you used? And which AL00 software version are you on, B140 or B141?
As for P10 (not Plus), do I need Viper4Android_Huawei_EMUI5.zip?

Hi
I think the Directory-Structure is different in the latest FW!
When i try to flasha Custom Keyboard like the one from Sony Xperia Z3 it doesnt appear in settings!
But on older FW it does!
Have anybody a plan where i must extract manually the zip from Custom Keyboards?
TWRP goes up to B130? So you might unzip it then install apk manually. About TWRP, I never tried in B151, but B130 I have. I am tired about "Your device is not trustworthy"-ish message every time I boot it up, so I just re-lock my device... Have you tried Settings - Apps - Menu (at the bottom of the screen) - Show system processes? Any flashed apps goes as System app, I think.
Anybody else have the issue that Xposed framework stopped working for this firmware?
The zip file flashes fine without returning any errors but it still says framework not installed in the app.
Tried with several versions of Xposed.
Before the update it worked fine...

Really strange... That is the one I also flashed...
But does not seem to work...
However, I have a L31 with B150. I also cannot activate the DT2Wake function on my device.
Somehow I think I have an overly restricted kernel in my device
But as soon as we have CM I'll say goodbye to EMUI anyway...
Sorry but it's the first time I update EMUI on my P9 Lite so I'd like to ask... If I update it, what will I lose? Root and bootloader? Or only Xposed won't work anymore?

P8 lite regular have different specs from 2017 version, if I were you I give a try in the Honor 6x section, because the CPU is the same maybe you could get some hints there.
Other devices with same CPU:
-Honor 8 lite
-Mate 9 lite
Thank you.
But I'm not courageous to test these tools - I don't want to brick it.
So, I unlocked the bootloader and now I need something like TWRP and (maybe) a modified SuperSU to get root.
If someone has any informations about, let me know.
Regards.
Well, it should work. In the worst case you could just reflash your old recovery with fastboot.
Could you tell us if it's worth it to buy or not please ? Bcz im thinking about having one but i dont know samsung a5 2017 is cool too and better in a lot of things
i think twrp from 6x would work on P8 lite 2017
then you on terminal put (for the safest case), echo SYSTEMLESS=true>>/data/.supersu
and you are done, it should work, on my Moto G 4G (XT1040) i do that to root on nougat
Use Magisk to root it

Hmm I could try see if I could help u. Could u try the mate 9 lite or any twrp (if available for nougat) and se if it wors?
In this case it can be related to kernel or some other info.
Since these devices are very similar it should be easy to port twrp

None of the TWRP did work, as a user in another Forum reported.
I can't test by myself, because the fone isn't here anymore.
I tried the RevolutionRecovery for P9 Lite Nougat. Is not able to mount system.
I tried all day long to unlock the bootloader, creating a Huawei account and following step by step the procedure to can get an unlock code. But once I got it, trying to unlock by DOS prompt, it failed and remains locked. I think because this procedure is related to P8 Lite, and not to P8 Lite 2017. Currently it seems to be there's no way yet to can root the P8 Lite 2017, unfortunately for all possessors of it, like me
I have to correct my post above.
This TWRP istn´t able to mount data, not system...but this has been described in the RevolutionRecovery thread, nothing specific to the P8 Lite 2017.
So flashing SU doesn´t work, flashing magisk zip makes the phone reboot instantly.
@Joaquito29
Unlocking the bootloader worked pretty well for me and someone in another forum said, he was able to root the phone manually by pushing su and busybox binaries to bin and xbin.

To play it completely safe, instead of actually flashing TWRP as an initial step, use the boot-only method:
fastboot boot twrp.img
This way, you can ascertain whether the TWRP build functions on your device normally before flashing the /recovery partition.

Interesting. That would appear to indicate some minor differences between the two devices in terms of firmware configurations. Try this, using the factory firmware package for your device, flash the /boot and /oem partitions only (since the camera drivers are located in /boot). Then boot into TWRP recovery and flash Magisk (or a no-verity script) in order to disable dm-verity and for root patching. Wipe the cache and Dalvik and reboot system.
If that doesn't do the trick, do a clean firmware install and do a TWRP dump of your system image and /boot partition. Upload them to a host like Google Drive, send me a link, and I'll build you a TWRP flashable stock ROM specifically for xt1921-1.

After following the flash boot and oem steps, it got caught in a bootloop. Once that occurred, I wiped and reflashed your stock rom (followed by Magisk). Once it booted again, the previously mentioned instability (camera and hardware settings) have disappeared. Good job!

When you tried in Linux, what do you mean it did not work? I performed mine with Linux Mint. Did you get any specific error? How did you install adb and fastboot?

I used Puppy Xenial, but I also have Linux Mint. I am sure it was an error on my part. No worries.

Well, it worked!. I had to flash your stock ROM in TWRP due to it being stuck in a bootloop, but overall, it runs well! I guess the steps outlined for 1921-5 are confirmed to work for XT1921-1. Thank you again for your help!

If you have unlocked your bootloader, you should be able to use @CodyF86's TWRP and root method from this thread. https://forum.xda-developers.com/mo...very-twrp-moto-e-5-play-james-t3796323/page23
The xt1921-1 appears to be the unbranded variant of xt1921-5.

Here you go (EMUI 9.1only):
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/losq-lir-lineageos-17-1-18-1-unofficial-gsi.4219291/post-84305543
Here you can download patched recovery_ramdisk (v23.0), TWRP and Magisk manager 23.0 apk.
If you want, you can update Magisk version via Manager after installation.
Ok, nice. I make a try. Really, really thank you!

Under stock EMUI?
Can you post a screenshot?
What version of Magisk do you have installed?
Hey man, sorry for my late. Yes, it was the official stock EMUI, using the recovery.img that you linked me.
I just wiped all and did it all again and now it works. I don't know what happened ahhaha.
BTW at this point i can do a guide of this device

it would probably be better to use stock recovery_ramdisk for LLD-L31 and patch it via magisk manager. It is true that Recovery and eRecovery are the same for ANE, LLD, BND devices, but there may be nuances...
So download the full stock LLD-L31 9.1.0.xxx from androidhost.ru and use the "Huawei update extractor" to extract the original Recovery_ramdisk.img (if you want to make a guide).
