Nope - all material in the Fire 7 forum is applicable to both 5th and 7th gen devices. The version of FireOS installed determines what level of customization is available. For most newer devices that means no root or custom ROMs.

Why do they add forums for unreleased devices like the DROID DNA and Nexus 4/Nexus 10 but not the Kindle HD 8.9"?
Anyways my question is since Amazon released open source files for the 8.9" does that mean custom roms are possible or the bootloader is still locked?
Should be the same as the HD 7, but will know today. Mine is being delivered today

Still locked... Why would amazon change their minds and allow it to easily happen?
Boot strap is being worked on for the 7", don't see why it would be any different BUT they are just getting into customer hands, so we'll see if it works for both.

If your risky, you can try running qemu tool and reporting if it works. It is very likely to, but be careful.

The forum admins are considering the options for the 8.9" device(s) and we should get a decision soon.
In the meantime, questions and discussions about the 8.9" device are welcome in this forum since the 7" KFHD is its closest sibling. Should a new forum get created for the 8.9" Kindle Fire, all relevant threads will get moved there. Any discussions regarding the 8.9" Kindle Fire should be clearly marked as such in the title to eliminate any confusion in this forum.
Stay tuned...
Does anyone knows what's new or better in this latest 5.1.3 update, or really has noticed some improvements or fixes in the Fire 7 Tablets?
I have read, in this XDA Forum for Fire 7, that only the Amazon Fire 7 have received the 5.1.3 update, but that none of the FireHD 8 have been updated yet, so I would like to know what improvements should we expect?
I am aware that this forum is for Fire7 and not for FireHD8, but as both tablets have a very similar FireOS5, would like to know how well is working this 5.1 3 on the Fire7 Tablets?

To my knowledge Amazon has not released any detail on 5.1.3 (or 5.1.2.1) changes.

I knew that Amazon has not released any details about changes in the 5.1.3 (or 5.1.2.1) updates, that's why I decided to ask if anyone have noticed something new or improvements on their Fire 7 tablets after receiving this latest update?
i've seen some articles about putting marshmallow on kindle devices. . . and i've seen a lot of information thats pretty old about how to unlock the bootloader on the kindle fire hd 7 inch 2nd gen. . . i was wondering if there was an easier way now that its 2017?
i was going to use twrp, but my device isnt suppoted. . .any tutorials that are updated or are us 2nd gen users still in the same boat as a couple of years ago?
Which is better? which is faster?
Im deciding on which rom to install on my fire 7 5th gen.

The characterizations "better" and "faster" don't apply. Both are mature, feature complete offerings that perform similarly. Fire Nexus emulates the default UI on a legacy Nexus device which is close to pure AOSP. It's a great platform for Xposed Framework. Lineage has some usability tweaks baked in and generally suits those who like a little sugar on their cereal when it comes out of the box.
I've decided I'm gonna try to put the Nexus ROM on my rooted (Kingroot) 5th gen running 5.1.1 BUT am struggling with flashfire needs SuperSu or Magisk ( both of which don't work for me) and the twrp app doesn't have my Fire 7 in the compatible device list
I'm sat in Benidorm at the moment waiting for a big thunderstorm so this afternoon could be good opportunity to have a play
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated

Read last half dozen posts in these threads. You will need to invest time and likely some $$ to satisfy your objectives. Good luck.
