Rooting Note 5 N920W8 - Galaxy Note5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Good Morning,
I'm interested in rooting my Note 5 to get rid of the bloatware and keeping it Nougat 7.0, I was reading around about some rooting options and have it narrows down to CF-Auto Root or Magisk, wondering what you thought on this, sorry I'm a new at rooting so my terminology may not be correct.

[Q] towelrooted gs5 question, samsung security updates, and att ota

There are a few questions here about my gs5 and note8.0, sorry for the long post, I rarely post but need a little guidance. Sorry if this post isnt exactly up to the standards of the rules, I also tried the search feature but didnt have any luck. I have spent countless hours reading threads. Ihave successfully rooted every, all 10, of the android devices I have owned which includes two tablets. SO TO ALL WHO POST INSTRUCTIONS HERE, THANK YOU.
I rooted my gs5 with towelroot pretty much immediately when it was released. I havent had any real issues, other than the phone freezing on rare occasion, and web pages get stuck loading about 1/2 to 3/4 of the way finished, when this happens I usually toggle the apn on and off and then the page will load. This happens kind of often, I attribute it to some bug in the stock TW rom. Of course im still hoping for a way to unlock the bootloader.
I get a notified of samsung security updates here and there, I have never updated that since I rooted, I assume that updating samsung security would most likely take away my root access.
I have a note 8.0 wifi tablet also and it is rooted, I had to root with odin on the tab, towelroot didnt work. I also get secuirty update notifications on my note 8 which I also ignore.
Will samsung security updates block root>
Will the new ATT gs5 update that was released this week block towelroot? I can easily unroot and update ota then try to re root with towelroot apk, I am worried that towelroot will not work anymore if I do that.
Anyone know if the att update blocks root, and is it even worth worrying about trying to download?
My note 8 is rooted via odin, but it still has stock recovery, how do I get twrp or clockworkmod? I am pretty sure there is not a locked bootloader on this wifi tab, but I do want custom recovery.
So any help with installing clockworkmod recovery on the note 8, I know the CWM app allows you to install cwm recovery but I have only done it once and forgot to check to see if the BL was locked, well it was and It was a pain to unbrick that device.

G920AUCS5DPJ1 Root?

Any way to root 6.0.1 G920AUCS5DPJ1 yet? Did some research but could not find a way to root for this particular build. Any update?
I've been searching for an easier method to root my phone and I'm shocked at how few options there are to root my s6. I've always been able to come across more than enough information to root all the previous galaxy phones but for some reason there doesn't seem to be an easy method (like ping-pong root or something automated) I'd appreciate if anyone has any feedback on rooting the new build after the November security patch the build number is G925AUCS5DPK1

Feedback is, there is no root for the new builds.

And is there any way to go back to old builds flashing with ODIN an old stock firmware?
I confirm: once you get the phone on a newer version, you can't downgrade it. I tried to go from 6.0.1 to 5.1.1 flashing with ODIN. The ODIN process went well, but after the phone took the older load, it got stuck in the ANDROID screen
To get it back to life i had to flash again its original stock version at 6..0.1
So the question is if there will be any developement on S6 ATT 6.0.1 to get it rooted or TWRP. RIght now it seems we are stuck. No root, No custom rom I will keep my S4 that performs like a charm with root and custom roms!

Development has been essentially dead on the ATT version for many months.

Thanks @dandrumheller for the reply
I am debating myself to try something even i know is highly possible i break the phone. I really need a rooted phone and this s6 is a replacement for my s6 given to me by ATT. If i can't get it rooted, it will sit there forever. So probably i will take the risk to try to root/load anything experimental

Rooted SM-T713 Bricked after Smart Switch update to Nougat

I rooted and unlocked my Galaxy Tab S2 about two years ago and was hoping to update from Android 6 to 7, looking around a bit I figured I would try using Samsung's Smart Switch app to update. After updating I am now stuck in a boot-loop and my TWRP recovery install is gone. I still have the recovery file and am wondering what are the right steps I should take for recovering my files and also updating to Nougat while still having root access? I have done a bit of investigating but it looks like my tablet hasn't had much interest for the past year or so and I am uncertain what are the best new methods out there for rooting and updating ota.

AT&T Unlocked SIMS Samsung Galaxy Note 3 / SM-N900A Root?

I have Samsung Galaxy Note 3 SM-N900A version 5.0 and I’ve been trying to root it for awhile now. No luck at all and I’m fairly new to all of this stuff. From what I’ve gathered, it isn’t possible to root it since the boot loader is locked. However, if we can downgrade it, it would be. This is where I would need help step-by-step. I’d prefer that someone could live chat with me or call just to make sure I get every step right and if I have questions, I could get them right away to ensure I get everything done right. Thanks!
This thread may help: https://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-att/general/guide-easy-root-method-att-note-3-stock-t3797008
Dr. FONE doesn’t work. I think it has to do with my bootloader and I need to downgrade mine to 4.4.2 KitKat version.
The first line of the thread says:
"You can now root your AT&T Note 3 running stock Lollipop (OC1) in less than ten minutes (it rooted mine in six)
With just a few clicks this method will root and also install the real SuperSu on your Note 3."
OC1 ROM is Lollipop which is 5.0.

Possible/Not Possible to root the Note 8

Hey yall,
So I have a Galaxy Note 8 and of course it is SM-N950U VZW running Android Pie, and BL is N950USQS8DTJ1. Now all the crap I've dug through to research the process to root it I haven't found any way to do so. Now I'm curious as to wether it can be done considering Snapdragon wont allow the bootloader to be unlocked? Now I have read one forum that claims that we can now unlock the bootloader on Snapdragon but all i could seem to find was a bunch of bickering back and forth. Is it possible to do so now or is it just a fancy ruse? If someone can point me to the right path i would appreciate it. Please keep in mind that i am somewhat familiar with the process of rooting but I'm a better tech than I am on the software side so please be specific about your answer and forgive me for my lack of knowledge. I'm self taught over a couple years now so it's been a try and learn process. I'm also curious as to if cwm or twrp can be installed and used on it as well.

Exact same scenario... I see some ROOT possibilities with S7 bootloader, but appears ours is S8, so is ROOT possible with this BL version?

Root Galaxy Note 8 Snapdragon using Extreme Syndicate Method (SM-N950U/U1)
A step-by-step guide on how to root Snapdragon Galaxy Note 8 (SM-N950U/U1) running V8 bootloader using the Extreme Syndicate root method.

Trying to use root method from Extreme Syndicate, in particular, XDA RD elliwigy, even though it says for BL S7 and I have S8. Not getting far... ODIN3 tool hangs in flash process... not sure this will work, but continuing to hack at it...

Did successfully root Note 8 with S8 and loaded Nougat. ODIN3 wasn't working, but after reading thru the thread, I used a different cable, directly into a USB port on the PC (was on a hub), then ODIN3 worked fine. Will live with the 80% battery issue for now. May buy a OnePlus 7T evidently best (easiest?) phone to root? The Note 8 is not my primary phone and was a phone I had laying around so it'll do for now. Thanks to this forum for providing a solution albeit not ideal. Like these small victories.
Does this work for N950USQS8DTJ1?

Yes, that is the same version of mine... works but with caveats... for one, I couldn't get Life360 to work after rooting... Tried all versions, including old ones for Nougat, no worky. Some apps don't work, some are quirky, however, only affects few apps here and there. Overall, everything works just like on stock OS. And very thankful it is an available option for root. The biggest thing for me is the battery bug, max charge of 80% just doesn't cut it, doesn't last all day, so I'm forced to carry a portable charger, and it's only going to get worse over time. This alone is going to force me to get another phone, maybe a OnePlus 7T, I see those are supposedly easiest to root. But this root does work for yours (and my) version of Note 8!
