I have been seeing that apps like Package Disabler have been struggling to get around disabling packages with latest updates from samsung. Many users on the Play store keep complaining it doesn't work. Will the latest software of Note 8 work with package disabling? What about AdHell? is it as good a disabler like Package and BK?
Works fine in s8 plus. Perfect way to disable sh*tby totally.

Yes there are a few different apps for remapping the Bixby key or if you root you can do it yourself manually too.
Check in the s8 themes and apps section on XDA or just wait and they'll come to this one too.
However I like Bixby, it's quite helpful and saves me time

I'm not planning on rooting, just disabling any unnecessary packages. I'm pretty happy with the Google assistant, and think that's likely to be superior to Bixby.

The apps have non root options available so you should be good to go with those.
package disable doesnt work all the time. Its a known fact.
Samsung has told the dev to change some thing so it doesnt work.
I had it install on my phone and work great. Then one day i went to add another app to the list and the program wouldnt load.
So i uninstalled it and reinstalled it. Then got an error 102. Contacted the dev and he said it was samsungs fault and if im getting that error to uninstall and ask for a refund.
So with all that being said i doubt it will work on the note 8. I hope it does since i like to block ota updates but we will see what happens.

Curious what phone your currently using. My co worker just got the S8 and contacted the dev. The dev replied almost immediately with a link to the newest version that was not fully released yet. He hasn't had a problem since. That was this past week.
PDP Pro is working fine on my Note 4. That is an older phone that is on Marshmallow. It works well. I took a look at what was installed on the Verizon variant when I was in the Verizon store today and there was not much on it. Much, much less than what they installed on my Note 4. Does anyone know if they just put less on the model phones in the stores, or will there really be that little junk on the phone?

Tmobile s8+ The dev email me back within 5 mins and said if i got that error to ask for a refund and it wouldnt work. This was about 2 weeks ago.
But as said the app work when i first got my s8+ and installed it. but then i went to open it and it didnt open so uninstalled and reinstalled and it didnt work any more.
I'm sure they will work, some work better then others. the Bixby button is something that a lot of people don't really care for so if there is a way to remap/disable it, a post will be up fairly quick.

it would be nice if they support they note 8 given the nasty they did to their customers when they caved to samsung and modified their app to let the stupid battery cap updates go thru on the note 7.

Sorry, can't agree with this. Their decision to side with Samsung on this was good business sense. Had any customer using it been "lit up" by a faulty battery while the installation of the update was blocked by PD, they'd have been wide open to a lawsuit regardless of what the license agreement said.

i agree that this is the case but all the same i remember when it happened and was annoyed - i planned, as i have done, to use the note 7 for as long as i could and i was incensed at the attempts to hobble it and end those plans prematurely.
luckily i dodged this (and the others) and got a lot of good use out of it as a tablet. it totally rocked as a backup telecommute device or when on the go. the s-pen is what makes it work. remote desktop on windows 10 is actually pretty functional for coding. and this is a phone i just sold for $380. i can't complain about how it ended up but, yeah, i was a bit upset that these devs were assisting the attempts to hobble it.
i can't wait to try to work using the note 8. i checked one out in best buy yesterday and, tho intimidated by the size (that sounds wrong), i have high hopes for how it will perform as a telecommuting device.

I subsequently learned that the spontaneous new apps were installed without my permission by DT Ignite, malware (IMO) pre-installed by Verizon. Once that was disabled, things quieted down.
My Note 8 that arrived yesterday had far fewer initial crapware games and apps, and I can't find any evidence of DT Ignite in the Apps Manager. Has Verizon finally smartened up, or do you think they'll find another way to pollute our phones?

It's a background app installed by carriers that will download and install games and apps on your phone whether you want them or not. It's very annoying to purge your phone of bloatware only to see it come back mysteriously by itself.

I had used PDP (Package Disabler Pro) to disable nearly everything it recommended on my Note 7 and the S7E that replaced it, at least until Nougat was released. After the upgrade PDP didn't work anymore, but I pretty much knew what to disable by then and DT Ignite was at the top of my list. Nothing came back after I shut that down, and the 2 or 3 security updates VZW has pushed since then didn't re-enable it.
I'm cautiously optimistic that the Note 8 will stay fairly clean ... at least until Oreo is released for the N8.

Most of the totally useless crapware cannot be disabled without a package disabler app
FWIW, the one I usually use (Package Disabler Pro) is not working on my Note FE, but, BK Disabler is.
I'd say it's well worth the couple of dollars vs dealing with unwanted bloat ware...

I avoid disabling anything to avoid issues when updates are pushed - I never disabled DT Ignite on my VZW S8 and I never had anything pushed on my phone. Also if you don't want to be tracked, you're using the wrong operating system to begin with.

Good for you, seriously, but that wasn't my experience. I'd wake up to new, unwanted games and apps on my Note 7 and S7 Edge pretty regularly. And after disabling DT Ignite, I never had a problem with any of the updates, including the Nougat release for the S7E. I had to disable DT Ignite again after that installed, but the 3 security updates since have all installed just fine.
Not sure if this is the right place but here it goes. I actually use some VZW stuff. I like the native VZW to VZW video calling. I also love the VZW premium visual voicemail. The VZW cloud is handy, but I can do without.
Anyone know how I get this stuff?

I just got off the phone with VZW. My HD calling, video calling and visual voicemail isn't working. Not sure if the CSR was right, but she said there is an advance calling setting on the VZW N8 that I couldn't find on my unlocked Sammy N8. I have seen it before on my S8+ so I know What she is talking about.
I said maybe mine isn't provisioned correctly. She said she wasn't sure. I am going to call back tomorrow to speak with tech support

If you really want it, Nova Launcher can do this. I actually prefer using the fingerprint reader for this, though, and you don't need Nova Launcher for it (although I'd rather have Nova Launcher than not).
Yes action launcher does too but the Note is the only phone I usually use the default launcher with. The sensor isn't convenient to me yet.

I have the S8+ TMO. And when the v40 thinq comes out I plan to go back to LG. It's no fun without root. I miss A.R.I.S.E., being able to debloat my rom, trying out kernels, and changing my fonts to abeatbykai. Sigh.....I miss those days!
If we get Root for the LG V40 ThinQ then do you think there would be good developer support?
As an alternative, Im looking at the Pixel 3 XL, but would prefer to have the 3.5mm jack and sd card support.
For me is highly recommended. With LG and the implementation of the quad dacs I think having root may help with triggering high impedance mode. I'd still be using my V30 today if I would have bought an unlocked version off the bat instead of TMO. This was back in the day when root wasn't available for the TMO but the unlocked version had it in like a week or so. I'm dumping my Pixel 2 XL which has root for the unlocked version of the LG V40.
On a side note the guys at my local TMO allowed me to play with their demo of the V40! Loved it! The screen was awesome, like it's just all screen no bezels. not sure about the headphone jack being on the bottom this time around but we'll see how it goes. Holding it got me super excited about the phone.

Yes, you can remove. Most spyware can be disabled straightly from the settings/apps info menu. Those that can't from menu, can be uninstalled by adb from PC or with means of LG Package Disabler. So, no hassle

First, there is functionality to rooting even just on stock firmware. On the V30/V30+/V30S you can enable High Impedance Mode (HIM) on the Quad DAC without LG''s "permission" (which needs 50 ohms or higher headsets). You can also enable "dual speaker" mode. (The mods on that thread is more advanced than the original HIM mod, same developer.) There's plenty of other root-required mods that add functionality, like silent camera files. I'm just comparing the V30 to the V40, because it's the direct successor from a year ago and we DO have root on all V30 variants.
For root in general, I've long used a time sync app and scheduled Auto Reboot (so my phone starts "fresh" every day). Whether you want those things is your decision. But it's YOUR phone, so you can do what you want.
Which leads me to my most important point. OWNERSHIP. With root, it's YOUR phone, not the carrier, not the OEM. It's just like being administrator of your computer at home. Any computer I buy, I will have "admin" privileges. Smartphones are simply handheld computers. A couple of years ago, Samsung pushed an update to purposefully BRICK perfectly good phones. Not all Galaxy Note 7 phones had bad batteries, only some. People paid SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS for those top tier spec phones -- and even though most were working just fine Samsung BRICKED those phones to force people to change to a different phone. People thought they had BOUGHT those Note 7 phones, but this proved Samsung still OWNED all those Galaxy Note 7 phones. The only Galaxy Note 7 ph9ones that were NOT bricked by Sasmung were those which were rooted. Those people who were rooted really owned their phones, not Samsung.
Until your phone is rooted, you do not own it. You are merely "renting"/leasing it from the real owner -- the carrier/OEM.

And, frankly, I even see no use in app drawer. See, app drawer is a crippled thing from days of 512Mb phones. In those days launcher would need too much RAM to draw all the icons so they were hidden to conserve memory and free it for user's apps.
Now when I have 6Gb I see no use in drawer, I sort icons to folder to my content and can't be happier

You make miistake, you may check " Do not automatically update" and stop phone from being updated w/o having root
And you're not owning your phone until you delete all Google's crap up to google play services and play services framework. Even if you have root but have google on phone it's Google who owns it not you. That was proven dozens times

No, you're not correct about that. The reason I and others use app drawer has nothing to do with amount of RAM. I have 200-300 apps and I prefer to hide most of them in an app drawer. I don't want them cluttering up my desktop screens. Yes, I have a couple of folders on my desktop, but for the most part I have my most used app clustered in categories on separate pages. For apps I use occasionally, those stay in the app drawer. Like a closet.
Same concept with Programs folder and desktop shortcuts on Windows and even the QuickLaunch bar (which I still use, even on Windows 10). Programs folder (app drawer) is for ALL installed programs (apps), desktop shortcuts/QuickLaunch/Pinned to Start menu are for frequently used programs (or apps with Android).

I seriously have no idea what you are saying in this statement. There's no scheduled reboot in stock Oreo, that I have seen.
But I have one anyway -- on all my Androids for quite some time, because I OWN my devices.
I also have a script to reboot my Windows PC every night. Same concept.
EDIT: Apparently on some phones you can schedule a reboot ONCE A WEEK. And you can't really control the time to the minute. It's "within one hour of the time you set"?

Samsung pushed those updates no matter what settings were chosen. Also, I've seen over and over people who got updated with OTHER phones,no matter what settings they chose. It's happened too frequently to be accidents. Carriers/OEMs own those phones, not you. If they decide to force an update, they'll force an update... whether you want it or not.

Rooting is a philosophy of ownership, just like being admin of your PC. With root you can decide what happens and when, what is installed or not, how things are.
It's not about how stock is so "improved" you don't need to root. If you are saying that, then you are not even in the same discussion as me.
Sure, one day the the phones may be so locked down you can't root them, but that's NOT something you should accept willingly.

Apps, that I don't need, stay in my 7th, 8th, 9th etc screens. It's the same as if I had them in drawer.
What I said is the CONCEPT of drawer was designed in the days when phones had scarse RAM and drawer was invented to comsume memory when using launcher. I didn't say that you must not use drawer, you may do what you see fit. It's just that I don't need drawer no more and em not using it

Yes, LG G7 and probabaly V30 has such ability. I thought it could reboot once a day but my mistake, only once a week. Anyway I don't see need in such feature, I may reboot phone mystelf when I think most proper time. Maybe before I'm gonna put it on charge.

Does anyone know what package disablers work with the Note 9, it's been a year a so since I was with Samsung and package disabler appears to have disappeared from the Play Store.
Can I get it somewhere else? does it work with the Note 9?
It works but it also gets removed from Play Store periodically then it gets reinstated. People who purchased it its earlier reincarnations need to purchase it again, assuming they need to reinstall, if more than 6 months have passed. Needless to say a lot people feel peeved off (and rightly so) by the developer's attitude.

I had a look around at these but then opted to try the ADB route instead. There are various threads around on what to disable and it's pretty straightforward to do. I also wonder if just disabling the app via settings is similar or good enough. Haven't found enough info so far to confirm, but have disabled some apps this way too.
Is the ADB method the same as on an LG phone? E.g. pm uninstall -k --.......

Not sure about ADB, only time I've used ADB is for flashing recovery, I wouldn't know where to start.
I've disabled everything I can manually, although there are a few not sure about, after checking the play store via chrome package disabler pro is still available but not for the Note 9, annoying because I'm pretty sure I have the Pro version.
Also somewhat unrelated, why does the software on the Note 9 have such difficulty closing down background apps? even when you explicitly selected them to not run in the background, an hour or so later it's still active and using battery. :silly:

If you're not familiar with it,it's worth your while to read everything.
It's not complicated if you're used to using command prompts/ADB,however,be warned that if you delete,it's actually just hidden from the user,but,once you do this,it can't be recovered/accessed/re-installed unless you factory reset (less root access,of course).

Adhell 3 has a package disabler. It works. Google "adhell 3 reddit" and you can find links to download the APKs. Then you'll have to go to samsung developer site and generate a knox developer key to plug into your copy of adhell 3.

There is a useful program called Adhell3 which does app disabling and ad blocking. It works a treat on my unrooted Note 9. It is linked over in the Goodbye Ads forum.

RCS for one. Launcher with Google feed built in without the need to root.
There are a few advantages to the T-Mobile ROM. Not a lot, but a few.

Oh I see I never heard of RCS until you mentioned it. I only booted the stock ROM once before flashing international. I also do not think microg supports Google feeds never used a feed before. How do people admin android without root?
I used to root everything. I just don't have the time anymore plus I din't buy my phone out right and I don't feel like calling TMO to try and get out of the payoff restriction.

I didn't buy phone outright within one hour of taking it home I was boot loader unlocked , sim unlocked and rooted. No need to call t mobile for anything. I only booted the stock operating system once. Which was only because it was required step in the process. They asked me for help in setting up my phone. I sure if you can remove Google play services and seemed to think the phone wouldn't work without Google play services.
I get the desire for RCS,but it's barely used still... I could see it mattering in the future, but as of right now, meh... I got mine unlocked by sweet talking a rep, but MSM tool is great too! As much as I love the Google feed, I simply have a shortcut for it on my home screen so I can quickly go to it if needed... Honestly, the international variant works so much better for me! Sadly, TMO really restricts software updates for so many Android manufacturers, even aside from OnePlus. By the time TMO approve a software update, new patches and updates have already released on the mainstream side.

As for RCS...not that big of a deal for me. I'm using International on my TMO 6T because I got tired of the SLOWWW updates.

Yeah, I know about the alternatives but they are just not the same as having a dedicated stock launcher with the feed built in. It just seems cleaner to me.
Right now though, I do admit I cant use RCS because no one I know has it. So I went to Beta 9 and am using CPL with the plug in.
I am waiting on my token so I can get off this slow update T-Mobile schedule. I finally got tired of waiting so I called them up and told them I need sim unlock they did it even without phone payoff.

What does sim unlock mean in terms of updates? I am not sure if my sim is locked or not no proper method of testing but omni or carbon ROMs update just fine without official sim unlock. I only used the stock ROM long enough to boot the thing to fastboot to flash the international ROM. I did this inside the t mobile store while they processed the return of my wife's iPhone ten pro or what ever it was. They didn't seem to mind. Odd they let me do it with out the phone being processed yet. Mine was rooted and boot loader unlocked before I got my receipt. Their system was down for processing returns so I was there about an hour.

I find that strange with a locked bootloader. I guess you had a PC with you for all that or did the store let you use theirs. Any how good for you.

Yeah I had a windows tablet wait time was about an hour or two since the computers were down. I did walk next store to jamba juice and got a smoothie.

Yeah but I would think that the advantages of having newer/faster updates outweigh having to use another launcher or having RCS. Honestly, the OnePlus Launcher leaves a lot to be desired. I got rid of it almost immediately after I got the phone after I saw its huge lack of customization. Used Nova Launcher for years and love it. I won't use these betas though. I use my phone all day and just don't wanna run into annoying bugs lol. Hopefully we get a big new stable update soon.
RCS isnt something I really *NEED*. I can see when a message was delivered...but I'm sure we'll get RCS eventually.

Yeah, I can understand where you are coming from. However I would prefer the T-Mobile software. Each person has there own prerogative. Mine is T-Mo.

Uninstalled when prompted after receiving June security patch today. Went to link I received when paying for it on their website and re-downloaded to get the latest version, now working fine again.
Is the app you refer to the same as Package Disabler Pro? I bought it a while ago, then it disappeared and now it's back in the Play store with a different name?

I would try contacting the developer with your email address and product key. I'm sure they will be able to provide you a download link for the latest version. My download link says it only works 3 times, so I only have one download left.

We are still on Oreo on mine and the wife's VZW branded Note 9s.
We've been using Package Disabler Pro, Orchard from the developers web site, not the Play Store, since April 8. We get no indication of any system updates.
We were using AdHell3, before that.

I've read of issues with the Play Store version.
I would purchase from their web site, directly.
There you can ask the Developer if it will work for your phone version.
The Samsung page is currently "under maintenance".

Mine isn't working either since the latest update for the Verizon Note 9. I purchased it direct from the website and used the last download. Also save one of your downloads(apks) in Google drive or something. When they send an update out it will update the app. I did hear from the developers and they said they are working on a fix.

Since the last update I am having problems as well. I had purchased this a long time ago on an older samsung device and it stopped working. Switched to bk disabler and then that didnt work on the Note 9. So went back to this app.
It seems the dev pulls the app from the store and then publishes a new one. The only way to fix this in the past was to buy the new version.
Seems like a scheme to make more money, but the apps work.
I don't think it is the phone update that caused it. The license-keys used, and these dev purchases from Samsung, have expired on mass possibly because they were misused or even meant to expire after period of time. Dev knows all this and you should be aware that you purchased essentially a subscription, even though you think you paid one purchase, and one that you never know when it will expire. Maybe in 6, maybe 8, and maybe 3 months. If the whole set up was above board then you would not have been forced to repurchase the same item again and again. There's no excuse, no supporting David v Goliath fight, it has become a milking operation.

TLDR:
Many, if not most, of Samsung-specific 'Package Disablers' violate Samsung's license permissions. As such, they are routinely removed from Google Play or stop working altogether because of this violation.
Explanation:
To provide clarity, many, if NOT most, of these Samsung-specific 'Package Disablers' use KNOX specific APIs to allow you the ability to disable applications.
It's a clever use of an existing pipeline; provide end-users with low level device functionality provided ONLY to Knox-approved Developers or Companies.
To develop and access Knox, you need a development key.
To activate your Knox-related application, you need a license.
For each device your Knox-related application is installed on, you need another license.
So if you want to use Knox or its related APIs, you have to pay.
In the past, there were many creatives ways around these limitations but Samsung has become MORE and MORE stringent on the qualifications required to use Knox and routinely check-ins on how Knox is being used. Violate them and you lose access.

I re downloaded my licensed version from their website and reinstalled. It will not complete their license check when opening the app.
All was well until the last update to my note 9, then it quit working altogether. I'm inclined to believe the posts above that explain shady access to security features, which got blocked in the update.
Contacted the (usually responsive) developer and was told they are working on it, but that was over a week ago.
