So where is Verizon Note 8 Forum, Is XDA moving away from carrier specific forums? I find it less confusing to have carrier specific forums particularly for development topics as each carriers device has specific needs when it comes to development.

I don't mind forking the development threads of each carrier into separate forums but keeping the General, Q&A, apps, and accessories forum just the same for all. In the Note 7 forums I missed out on a bunch of stuff because I didn't want to have to go through 4 other forums with their own subforums and just stayed in my carrier's board

Annoy the hell outta me. I like to wander the forums, but lately its a ***** trying to find development threads since they are all moved around. Now we have Nexus 3G and 4G ROMs that are similar other than model numbers all being moved to the General forum. Cyanogenmod Kangs, Miui ports, Bugless Beast. This is confusing as hell.
So maybe these aren't meeting the developement criteria to stay within sub-forum. But maybe its time to reconsider rules of the forums. For someone new jumping into these threads, this General Forum looks like ass. I can't even count how many ICS ROMs there are, and then have to I have to put my Sherlock Holmes hat on and investigate which one is for my device.
I know I can bookmark threads, and save favorites. But I like seeing buzz in the development forums by seeing what stays bumped. Can't really do that in the general.
Just my 2 pennies on all this moderator power tripping BS going on here.

I agree. I've sent messages to other mods and the only response i get is that they will look into it. It is definitely an unnecessary move on the mods part, but what can we do. Look for this thread to be locked also before too long, because it probably will be, your not allowed to express your opinion in the general section now either. I wish we could get more developers over on Rootzwiki. I don't see this happening on all of the other forums either.

Agree...
I couldn't agree more. I made a thread in the General Section, the main General section, not for any particular device. The thread was "Show your ICS home screens". I said in the thread, "Here's my current setup on NS4G". So they moved the thread to Nexus s general. then another modderator moved it again. I gave up.
Devs come on to post thir work, they can't post in certain forums or post links until they have posted X amount of times. I get the idea, but it's stupid! I can open a new user acct, go to the iphone section post 10 posts totally unreleated to android, then come back to the Android section, & like magic, I'm qualified to post in the dev threads.
Another thing is the mods pissing off the devs. A development forum without developers posting to it won't stand long.
I can't believe this thread isn't already closed...
I also agree with everything that was said. Another issue that chaps my ass is the retards running rampant in development threads. Shame that the knowledgeable, skilled developers are treated like dogs while idiots who can't even make a phone call are allowed to clog up threads and curse at people who try to help them.
This forum has very quickly become unbearable to frequent. I know it's a free world and I'm free to post elsewhere, but what drew me to xda was its reputation as a true developer's site. Very sad to see what it's become.

Ya, I also agree. It's a mess around here. This site was always my first stop in the morning. Now I hit Rootz Wiki and a few others.
And the General forum. Sheesh!
Agreed. With everything said here. This place is a cluster***.

The best way to search threads is to go to google....
Then type what you want and at the end of your search criteria;
Type "xda"
This will pull the thread you need right up.
Hope this helps.
I have to agree as well. I don't know how the other phone sections are looking, but the Nexus S section is way too messy, not to mention the fact that 2 of the best Roms (GPA19 and Oxygen) are not even on this site. You gotta ask why the good developers are not on this site anymore. Yet Drew Garen's crap is everywhere. I have been using this site for over 4 years and this is the worst it has ever been. Something needs to change, and quickly.
*UPDATE* Jesus, as I was typing this the thread was moved. This is exactly what we are talking about here. Quit doing this stupid ****.
I guess I'm the only one here that thinks you basically need to learn how to use the forums, rather than expect them to suit your ideal. There's a few million other members to consider.

makes me wonder
Listen you guys...if you seem to have an issue with anything on this site and have already contacted "The Mods" and have not been replied properly..contact the Administrators with your concerns instead of opening yet another "Boo-hoo..I hate this site and everything it stands for but I'ma continue to download anyway" thread.
Thread closed because I felt the need to do so and to flex my Mod muscles....Ta-ta

As suggested by BLADESMAN1889, this is a place for users from the UK Thread for Information on ordering the Nexus 4, to come and discuss other topics, to stop that thread becoming irrelevant.
Cheers

I'm sorry, but we already have an Off-topic thread. Please just use it.
If we start having country-specific Off topic threads in addition to the dozen or so country specific threads we already have, this board will be even more cluttered with the kind of conversations a lot of people are sick of reading on XDA.
Thanks
Is there a sub forum of people trying to root our device. Do people discuss what they've tried openly?

Usually in the generic device forums, at least more so than the provider variants like here. Root was achieved for this device before it was released on vzw (ping pong), so there hasn't been much discussion on this topic in here. If so, there are usually discussion threads started in android development or general. Often times discussions happen outside of xda, on irc channels and between individual security gurus and development teams - sometimes on bounty threads, or on already established root method threads, like towel, king or ping pong root threads.
As far as of1 or 5.1 root, I haven't seen or heard much anywhere. Though I haven't looked into it much... there may be something over in the generic s6, or s6 edge forums. Lots more people over there.

Mostly root development happens in IRC or Hangouts. This has occurred for several reasons. One reason this has happened because the thread gets full of "Are we there yet"s, "It will never happen", "How much longer?" "Should I just sell my phone" "Samsung sucks", "I am done with Verizon" etc....I am sure I am missing a few hundred other standard comments that you can see in every attempted root thread. Even the Developers ONLY section, members do not understand that title of the section. Too many think XDA is social media...it's not!
Another reason it is rare to see actual discussion of possible exploits is the carriers all have people monitoring the threads. There have been instances of patches released to plug a possible method before it even happened. So basically any root method usually appears suddenly and without warning. There have also been a few charlatans claiming they are close to a solution then when asked for proof, they disappear. Hope this helps answer your question.
Where do I need to start if I want to flash a SIM unlocked S20 FE 5G from ATT to Verizon firmware?
Here's the situation.
My Mother-In-Law has a SIM unlocked S20 FE 5G that was on ATT and is now activated and working on Verizon (with V SIM).
This was done to help her save a few $$, since adding a line to our V account is cheaper than a full separate account with ATT.
The cellular reception in her apartment is horrible but she does have great WIFI.
I tried to enable WIFI calling on her phone, but apparently the ATT firmware does not support that.
I would like to flash her phone over to either a stock Verizon FW or a basic carrier free Samsung firmware.
She doesn't need a souped up fast as it can be ROM, stability and WIFI calling are the goals.
She doesn't even care about the bloat, but I figure if some of that can be eradicated she will like her phone better for longer.
If the flash can be done while saving her user data, that is a bonus, but I know what a big ask that is.
I am not new to flashing FW but it has been quite a few years and my experience has been almost exclusively with Motorola hardware.
I am reading about Odin and Frija now.
Is there a dummy's guide for flashing Samsung?
Thanks
go with trying to get the phone on non carrier firmware, the Verizon model has different hardware as it uses a different version of 5G compared almost everyone else.

Thread moved.
It seems as most folks come here looking for a rom,i imagine if like me people spend a lot of time reading these rom posts only to find the download links give 404 errors, can this be fixed or at least delete the usless threads that lead to this and save everyone wasting there time on this crud.
@m3vuv you posted this in the Galaxy S5 Snapdragon Development section, but your post does not qualify for development, per the XDA Development Policy.
I have moved this to the Galaxy S5 General section.
In the future, please ensure you post in the appropriate section:

As far as your statement goes, this is a very old device, and a lot of the development projects have been abandoned. Many file hosts remove files that don't see traffic after a certain amount of time. If the developer is still active, you can post in that thread notifying them that the link is broken, but don't expect it to get fixed.
ok so can you point me to a working rom android 5 or higher that works with a s5 901-f that installs with twrp?,thanks.
