Display manufacture problem for Mi5? - Xiaomi Mi 5 Questions & Answers

Is this problem normal ? Can the device be returned to warranty or be replaced ?

Most likely a light bleed. It's normal. Happen too often with ips display of any kind. Yours probably variant with LGD display. You won't get a replacement for it as manufacturer treated it as natural defect. Still, you're lucky you didn't get image retention.

Please search for the topic before starting another thread, this has been addressed at least 3 times. The lightbleed is normal, and there is a easy fix for it provided you use a ROM that has a display calibration such as LineageOS (MIUI doesn't have this feature).
Change all the RGB values to 90 and it should be gone.

Kernel Adiutor should work just fine in theory but it requires root. It's a bit of both, but it's easily fixed with this tweak.

Under display, change the settings according to the screenshot I attached in Kernel Adiutor. Just search for "display" under "Xiaomi Mi 5 Questions & Answers", there should be multiple threads relating to the issue. Similar ones should be "burn in" and "image retention".
I can confirm that the Kernel Adiutor fix seems to work for me (I'm using JDC 8.0.0 Oreo).

[Q] CDMoncrieff 4.2.2 ROM vs "SGA" and "shumash" ROMs?

I do not have enough posts to ask this question in CDMoncrieff's 4.2.2 ROM thread so I will ask it here. What is the difference between CDMoncrieff's latest 4.2.2 ROM, SGA, and shumash 4.2.2. ROM? Are they all built on the same thing with slight tweaks?

What you should understand is that the Touchpad is heavily dependent on pre-built drivers and libraries. Therefore, many of the different ROMs end up being a reinterpretation of the UI only. In short they're built from pretty much the same device source with a few differences here and there; pick the UI you like best.
shumash builds PAC, with which you have all the PA settings, CM settings, and AOKP settings. It's very customizable.
-SGA- built SlimROM which is AOSP based and has a different variety of custom appearance features and settings.

FWIW, I installed CDMoncrieff's AOSP build yesterday (was on SickleROM before this). I am really happy with it. Have not found any issues so far at all. Schizoid listed some conflicts between settings, etc. So, CDMoncrieff's seemed cleaner to me.
The only thing I have not resolved till now is how to have TP not go to sleep while on touchstone. I can launch clock in night mode, but I want it to stay on the homescreen instead.
I have never had this problem with any of the previous ROMs till now. It is not a show-stopper however.
Unfortunately, I cannot post this in the dev forum because I don't have enough posts
I am keeping that as a daily driver until I hit a show-stopper bug.

Well, I hit the first snag. I cannot get the camera to work.
There was no camera included by default. I restored one from TiBu, and that did not work. Installed one from the play store (UCam) and that did not work either. CDMoncrieff's post mentions some problem related to camera preview rotation, but I can't get it to work in any mode.
In your app drawer, go to HP ToucPad Settings. Then click on the camera tab and make sure it indicates "front camera with mirrored preview(android default)”

It was already set to that. I switched it to webOS, and reverted it to Android. Rebooted. Still no luck.
Camera says "Camera has stopped"
UCam says cannot connect to the camera.

I think I figured it out. Somehow there were multiple cameras installed on my system.
Uninstalling the older one fixed it. Now, I know what the "rotated preview" problem means

I'm having a hell of a time with this.
No matter what I do, my phone is encrypted.
I've wiped so many times, yet it's still encrypted.
Am I missing something here?
I've been using CM for years now.
I stopped when forced encryption became a thing and went to Chroma.
I wasn't too thrilled with Chroma, so now I want my CM, but this forced encryption is the worst.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Mortal Kombat X
I just put cm12.1 on my nexus 6 in the hope it would solve a problem of audio in games. Mortal kombat x for example on stock would play perfect but the audio would pop and hiss. So I thought I'd try cm. Still has same problem. Oddly enough on stock the audio was perfect on 5.0 so i think the audio bug has came with 5.1.1. This is my second nexus 6 swapped it for thevsame issue. On current nightly, videos, calls etc are all perfect. So I guess my question is, is this a familiar problem with the Shamu and is it fixable?

I am currently encrypted myself. But the CM kernel does encrypt by default. To get around this you would need to format, not wipe, your data directory. Then you would need to install a different kernel.
So
1. wipe
2. format /data
3. flash rom
4. flash custom kernel and reboot
I tried tat technique with lean kernel to no avail.
I now use ElementalX kernel and it did not encrypted.
Thank for your help.
It worked, just not with lean kernel.
If 6/12 nightly breaks mobile data for anyone, just reboot to recovery and wipe dalvik and cache and reboot. Fixed it for me.
Notification LED not blinking
Notification LED?
I've enabled the Notification LED from Settings / Display & lights / Notification light, which is great. But the color and blink rate options don't seem to do anything. Is it possible to make those work?
Has anyone solved this? Im on the Nightly 7/1/15
What's happening guys?
I am experiencing an issue and I'm not sure if I am the cause.
When I am on WiFi and I leave the WiFi range my mobile data does not come on. I have to toggle either airplane mode or mobile data and it works after that. Is there a setting somewhere that I have ticked in error?

Exactly. I got the colors to work in individual apps. But LightFlow is the only thing I found to enable blinking without significantly affecting battery life.

Code:

I have a question about the use of the phone app.
In the phone app there is the possibility to add SIP accounts (settings-calls-calling accounts).
How can I call a person by username and SIP provider, for example: [email protected], instead of phone numbers.
Second, by default I want to use my SIM card for every phone call. Once in a year I call my mother in law who lives abroad. Only for that call (just a regular phone number) I want to use my SIP account, because that is cheaper. Is it possible to use a prefix or so to choose which SIP account to use?
Thank you in advance
Does the newer nightlies work with t-mobile? Because I was on the 7/24 nightly and it messed up my phone, it kicked me off of the t-mobile network and messed something up in the phone. I had to get a replacement phone and I don't want to install a nightly if it is not working with t-mobile yet.

Strange colors in animation

Recently the touchscreen of my Z1 (C6902) cracked so I got it repaired by a local service guy as the phone is not worth the genuine screen now, at least IMO. Anyhow that's another matter to discuss.
My problem is that the screen works flawless in Stock Sony Android but if I flash CM or AOSPA the display shows some strange colors when showing animations or playing videos.
I have attached a video for reference.
CLICK ME FOR VIDEO!
Could anyone tell me what is the reason behind this strange behavior?
Is the display faulty or the service guy broke something while replacing the display?
Thank you and Regards

Welcome to the club. This is the problem with Chinese aftermarket displays. After struggling with this issue for months, I have good news and bad news.
The good news is the issue is absent in Kitkat and MM AOSP ROMs. So once MM becomes stable you should be good to go.
The bad news is, the issue will be present throughout any LP AOSP ROM you use. BUT, there is a temporary fix. Refer to my post here for details. You have to tweak the color values. This will result in an overall dimmer display, but I think it's worth it.

oh thank you so much for that valuable information.
I can live in peace now.
FYI, I've decided to look for some 4.4 ROMS rather than messing with the kernel which I'm sure will lead me to more bugs/problems.
Really thank you for the solution
BTW, what do you think will be better, Paranoid Android 4 or CM11?

You are not modifying the kernel. You just need to use Kernel Adiutor. In the screen section, you will find sliders to set values for the colors. Unless you want to mess up, you most likely wont. Even if you do, you just need to reboot to reset it. I would recommend LP as it has a better camera and is more secure when it comes to security patches. But if you're hellbent on a KK ROM, you could try optimumpro's Slimkat, which has all the patches upto January. Sure, it has less features, but it has all the necessary features.

No no, you only have to do the last part of that post, not the whole thing, unless you want to switch to MM. Just boot up a LP AOSP ROM, install a kernel with kcal (like M5Kernel), install Kernel Adiutor and switch the color values to what I've mentioned in that post.

Thank you for pointing that out, you have no idea how many google links I opened, searching for the latest FTF.
I did not change any kernel, just flashed SuperSu and installed the app and set the values as told in that post.
It's looking OK for now, will test more tomorrow.
Once again, thank you very much
UPDATE 2 :-
I was using Kernel Adiutor to manage the colors of the display as told by the @drakonizer which was working great but had a small bug.
It's that Kernel Adiutor resets the colors value if I turned on Live Display in CM settings.
So a better way to manage the colors is to use the calibration feature in Live Display settings in CM.
Right now I've disabled Kernel Adiutor and using the 75, 60, 60 values in CM settings and everything is looking great even when Live Display is turned on.
UPDATE 1 :-
I've used it for a day now, here's my feedback.
1. Low brightness is really a problem in sunny day. I've set the colors value to 25 and 23-23, it's looking normal right now, will let you know after day testing.
2. Phone is getting much more warmer than before, the reason could be anything, from faulty display to faulty service of the mobile to buggy software/app.

The camera, fingerprint, and LTE is works well in my santoni.
But I'm sorry I didn't test the VoLTE yet because my kenzo still at miui which is the LTE is locked by them #sh*t.
Well as you can see the video recording still doesn't work (can't be saved to storage), and the camera api still unstable (googlecamera's always fc), but it still very capable as my daily use
Are you compiling the kernel too ? i think it will be great if you modify the msm_hsusb header to allow us charging more than 1.5 A.

Man, this is totally awesome, thank you very, very, very much. To be finally free from MIUI... perfection.
Only one problem, but it might be due to my specific setup. I have high Awake (screen off) - about 30-40% on average. I hope it will go away when the ROM settles (and when I have time I'll make an idle log to find out what happens exactly), but I'd like to ask you, do any other of you have the same problem? I gathered two biggest wakelocks are com.google.android.gms (google services) and NETLINK (neither I nor Google have any idea on what that is).
Can somebody tell me. Why all the roms official and unofficial ones. Show the cpu as snapdragon 430. Santoni has 435
no tones and notifications?

CAD Kernel - Custom kernel for axon7

So, there is my own kernel.
Kernel aimed to battery and stabilty with smooth UI. Not for games.
Main features:
Based on OrdenKrieger's B12 kernel source
Build with my own toolchain based on Linaro 7.2.1 with Cortex-a57 optimization
Removed tons of debug
Useless features and drivers were disabled(kernel became smaller and device boots faster)
Includes my CAD Project audio driver
Using my own governor named COFB(Conservative Optimized For Battery), and it optimized for battery
I/O Sched is SioPlus, that was slightly modified by me
Using FQ_Codel sched, which eliminates net's bottleneck problem
Trying not to use strange or unefficient code
Due to reduced amount of logging and debugging, I/O perfomance of Internal memory seriously increased
Boeffla's Wakelock Blocker(Big thanks to him for his great work)
Something that i forgot)
Its beta test, so always make backup of boot.img before flashing of zip.
Its only for AEX 5.6 or higher with B12 bootstack

Could you give an explanation about the different controls, in particular items 2 and 3?

Will it allow us to play hi-fi files (192khz and above) and be able to output at 192khz sample rate and above?
Where is the source code? Post a link to your base kernel source and your modifications at minimum, otherwise this violates the GPL.

Just curious, where do I find the "defconfig" to change CONFIG_SND_SOC_AK4490_CUSTOM_DRIVER ?
Great work!
Few questions:
How to disable oversampling completely?
If super slow filter is enabled than parameters in "/sys/module/snd_soc_ak4490/parameters/selected_filter" do not affect anything, do they?

If you want to disable oversampling(but i think it really boost audio quality), you should just change number to 48000 in file.
About filter. It should disable other filters, but I havent tested it

Oh okay. Was just curious when I opened the link and read the readme. I found a other issue though...
Whenever I change the settings and reboot, they reset back to their default values. Soft booting seems to make them stay, but I'm not sure if it's working.

Its not a bug, its feature.
If you want that value was changed after reboot you should make script in init.d. For now its the only variant

Alrighty. Another question...
Do these settings take effect even without a restart?

Yep. You can just change track(its needed to "reopen" audiopath) or stop track for 5-10 seconds. I'll add "auto reopener" in next update
Unfortunately, I can't tell the difference with any of the settings. How does this work when the DAC is not working in any of the Oreo roms? I'm just really wondering how to get the DAC working

It does work. The soundstage changed very noticeably from the version of AEX that didn't have it working vs the one that did, and NFound also says it works.
Hi-fi is another matter though. I suggest you wait for official G/U oreo

I see, so DAC is being used then, but hi-fi playback is still not working? I guess we'll see.
