Does this $9xx phone have the ability to be encrypted? I've searched the phone, web, and even called Verizon technical support, I can't find a way to encrypt it.

As soon you add PIN or other security it will be encrypted. And you can use Knox to keep further control over specific information.
You can encrypt the SD card according to the manual. Tried putting a screen shot of it in here but I can't get it working

Its encrypted by default sammys phones have been since the s7.
The only thing youd need to encrypt manually is the External SD
So can we have a boot up password while encrypting the phone?
Ok, thank you. Glad to hear it's already encrypted

Thanks for the post. A question if I may?
How does encryption of the SD card work? I am very apprehensive to encrypt my SD card in my mobile as I don't know if that would then mean having to open said SD with either the iris scanner or a PIN etc? Further when removed from that specific mobile, in my case the SGS8+, would another mobile (new Note 8 for e.g) be able to read the card and what happens when the SD card is removed from the mobile and needed for use in a lap top?
Any advise would be very welcome and thank you.

Hey ryland
When removing an encrypted SD card from your phone you won't be able to access the data at all. Same goes if you plug your phone into a computer, the computer will not be able to read the Data on your SD card without permission. So if you ever lost your phone or SD there's no way of someone else accessing that data.

Many thanks for the reply. :good: So, once the SD card is encrypted in the mobile I would not be able to access it in my lap top even when using Samsung SideSync, correct? That would concern me as on times I like to remove the SD card and add lots of new music files directly from my lap top.
Thanks again.

As far as I know yeah you'd need to have the SD still in the phone and the phone to be unlocked to access the data on the SD.
I'm not familiar with sidesync so I'm not sure about that part.
But basically once encrypted the ONLY way of reading the data is if it is inside your phone and your phone is unlocked (via your pin or iris or whatever)
You should still be able to connect your phone to your laptop and add files to the SD providing you can unlock the device
Also you can't put it in your new phone without formatting it
it will only work on the phone it was encrypted on. Keep in mind if you encrypted the SD and then flashed a custom Rom you would also loose everything on your SD because you won't be able to access it anymore.

connect your phone to your computer via usb cable and copy the data
So basically I'd stepped on my phone and cracked the gorilla glass and damaged the lcd as well as its touch sensitive capabilities. The device powers on fine but is no longer interactive therefore disabling me from actually entering in my numeric security code. I can't access it as mass storage until the screen is unlocked. Device shows as "Xperia z" portable device in windows explorer but opening the drive shows an empty location.. Nothing to copy
Try removing your SIM. this will also disable pin

I did a reset on my Moto x and I am still not used to my photos not being on a micro SD card so I forgot to back them up. Is anyone familiar with a way to try and recovery any of these after a reset? Or if you know a way to force the phone into a USB mass storage mode versus MTP, since MTP isn't assigned a drive letter when connected to a computer. Thanks for any ideas or help!

Why you formated internal sd? Flashing roms don't neccesarily need to erase sd card.

Check the last few Tekzilla podcast episodes. I remember one recently about recovering files from Android. Unfortunately, I seem to recall that a factory reset was pretty thorough, but its worth a look.

I think no need to format it. You can search a good recovery option for your device..
Sorry that half of the replies have no idea what they're talking about. I'm really not aware of anyway to recover the data due to MTP as you mentioned. You may want to sync your photos with Dropbox or Google+ next time.

You can try and format the sd card or, hook up the phone to your computer and delete the photos folder from your computer.
Something else that could be restoring it is Kies software I believe.
I know that sd card data can recovery but google drive?????
Hi, all. Ok, so since my november I have been waiting for Z3 compact root and great news of recent.
Since november, I have only used my phone just to make calls, after a major balls up when I flashed a firmware via flashtool without backing up. And even though technically, it should not have not wiped my data, it did.
I had some very precious and sentimental wedding images and 3 4k videos on the internal memory. (didn't have a sd card at that time) So, did not want to overwrite any new data.
Today, after rooting, I could use undelete type software with root access to recover my images. After all the waiting non of the *Top* apps worked!! wth. So, disappointed, some of u may laugh.
Anybody got any suggestions please. Any quality pro style apps, like used for PC recovery. Recovery on a low level perhaps (if possible)
I tried diskdigger, undeleter, recuva, hexamob, wondershare.
Please, anybody
Thanks for reading

That's why I try to get pictures saved to my laptop as soon as I'm home, regardless of all this automatic cloud saving.
Edit:
And: saving to ext sd or finding an option in an app to do so first place.

Habit ?
Was in a similar situation when I had to put one of our dogs to final sleep. Very nice and emotional pictures, I lost them due to flashing the next or other days. The wife saved them with her own, real camera. That's what always reminds me to save important pictures.
Anybody else. I waited a long while to not use my phone after my mess up. There has got to be a way to retrieve data off my phone even if I have flashed it.
I'm sure forensic experts could find such images etc.
PC data can be recovered even after so many wipes, there must me someone here with some expertise?
Please can someone help?

Thats too bad . But I see on TV shows all the time, using sophisticated software to recover data all the time. I'm sure this is possible somehow. My photo's are very very important to get back.
I always hear that PC HDD and phones people sell are very easy to find the data from.
People do not know that they are not always fully wiped.
Hook your phone up to your PC and try the several programs for the PC available for android internal storage restoration, just google a bit you will find tutorials and what not.
If you have not overwritten the files they might still be there. If you overwrote them i fear they are lost.

I have encountered a two year (?) Android lock screen glitch on the 10 Pro. I enter the correct pin and it takes it as incorrect. Now, I am locked out for 24 hours at a time. There's no allowance for me to use face unlock or finger print unlock. Encountered the glitch shortly after coming back from a vacation where I have captured 150+ GB of media chronicling my family and I. I cannot afford to lose these pictures and videos so looking for any help in getting my data off/phone unlocked. OnePlus official tech support is horrible and Google has no support on this. It's pretty crappy so looking for a needle in the haystack. Been stuck for two months and a friend recommended this site!
Use a data recovery specialist that has worked with that brand before successfully. That's your best shot if really need the data.
I never use screen locks or set bios passwords, you see why now. You are the one most likely to be locked out sometimes through no fault of your own. Redundantly and regularly backup critical data. NEVER encrypt data drives.
Having expandable storage helps too if you use the SD card as an unencrypted data drive. I also use two 500gb OTG flashsticks for "dirty" backups, main backups are on hdds.
All you can do sometimes is to learn from your mistakes... and not repeat them.

May be a Fastboot command to kill the kitchen but I'm not sure,, there used to be a file you can delete from twrp but we unfortunately don't have a custom recovery yet.

Hey Blackhawk and dladz. Thanks for the advice! Will attempt to find a data recovery specialist. Thanks for suggesting this as there seems to be some hope that data recovery is doable for a locked phone!
Unfortunately, nothing is backed up to Google photos. It happened just after my trip and I didn't get the chance to back up. Surely in the future,I will not use a password.
If I can't get the data off, is there any possible chance to file a lawsuit against Google?

A lawsuit against Google? You'd have a hard time buddy...it'll be challenging to get the data from a locked phone..
What about connecting your phone to WiFi whilst it's locked and seeing if Google photos syncs and backs up?
Have you checked if photos has been syncing? It'll do it automatically if you've ever accessed and advised the app to back up automatically

A OTG .5tb flashstick or two could have backed them up. Too much backup is a good thing.

phone lock and sim lock are two completely different things. you'll need a second phone and someone else's sim. you can use google to find out how.
try just popping out your sim, restart, and see if you can get in
Thanks for the help! The SIM card is already out (tried this at the beginning). So I'll do what you said about using someone else's sim! Will let you all know the results after work.
I have tried the SIM glitch, but alas it didn't unlock will have to try to find a specialist. Any programs that can unlock phones?
