I recently acquired a Droid turbo and was surprised by the lack if development for such a nice device. I quickly learned this was mostly due to the locked bootloader that took a while to crack. But having the Maxx with unlocked bootloader, I'm still rather surprised by how little development there seems to be for these devices. Maybe I'm spoiled as my last rooted device was a Moto G which had more ROMs than you can flash in a day, mods galore and things such as MultiROM. That leads to my question...
Now that more ROMs have rolled out and bootloader can be pretty easily be unlocked, is anyone working on MultiROM for quark? I searched around and have seen no mention of it all all for Quark devices. Is there something preventing it or do we just need someone to work on it? It's handy, especially with a phone with decent storage and a variety of ROMs.
Sorry for the lengthy post and I don't mean this as a "someone needs to make this for us" post. I'm just curious as MultiROM seems to be available on most devices these days but no mention of it for Quark.

"How little development"? Your premise is faulty.
We have 9 Marshmallow ROMs, plus we had at least 5 Lollipop ROMs, and now we have a Nougat ROM before most other devices! We have a custom kernel maker -- for both Lollipop and Marshmallow -- and now that same dev is now giving us the Nougat ROM.
I've been flashing ROMs since at least 2010, have owned several Nexus devices. Plus have have configured and set up many friends' phones. I'm not a dev, but far from a newbie. I've never used MultiROM in my life and have no desire to.
However, yes we can always use more developers. Our CM dev @Skrilax_CZ got a Moto Maxx XT1225 and developed official CM for us, along with the very important kernel. Others like @bhb27 came along developed more ROMs with CM's kernel. He also developed a custom kernel and gave us official TWRP for Quark.
Except for CF's Verizon stock-based ROM, all other ROMs are based on the work of those two devs. But we do have a lot of Marshmallow ROMs, and we have one Nougat and will have more. Here's the list of current Marshmallow and Nougat ROMs. I'm not even going to bother listing Lollipop anymore -- but we had at least 5, maybe more. AICP (Marshmallow) is not mentioned since the dev never made an official thread and says he's not maintaining it anymore -- even though people keep flashing it and asking about it in his other threads (AOKP and Bliss). But that one and @iiWoodstocK's Brazilian adaptation make 9 Marshmallow ROMs for Quark. Plus of course Nougat.
There are devices like Nexus which may have more ROMs but that's a very respectable amount of development!

As I said, maybe I'm just used to having tons of options. I had a Moto G (falcon) for a while. It's a budget device from 2013 and they have Nougat ROMs, tons of MM and LP ROMs, MultiROM, several OS ports, custom kernels etc... I guess it makes sense that a cheaper phone will be easier to get in the hands of devs and more people will dev for them.
I'm not complaining... But the Quark section is much more quiet than I was used to with my old Falcon.
I appreciate all the work that anyone puts in to making custom ROMs etc. My main question here was inquiring on MultiROM. For someone who constantly flashes ROMs or tries different mods, kernels etc, it's awesome. Why backup/wipe/flash/setup all the time when you can seamlessly switch between ROMs? With 32 or 64gb of storage you could in theory have all 9 MM ROMs installed and boot to whichever one you felt like using at the moment. Weed out the ones you wouldn't use and have several to choose from without having to wipe/install or restore etc.

yes I already made Multi ROM TWRP to work on quark, I manage to install more then one ROM in the device and hit a problem when trying to load secondary ROM's have no idea how to fix so I never publish I don't see this as a major thing to spend my time on so I prefer to improve others project that works 100% and work on the bring up of Nougat for a example as I have very limited time and there is very little developer for quark that really know how to do things some things may never come to life, I my self now very little but I never stop improve my self...
So maybe some day I finish the project and make it fully work, next try will be when TWRP and MultiROM project are released official for Nougat.

If I remember correctly from the moto G days, you had to have a patched kernel to work with MultiROM. I don't remember exactly what it was that was implemented within the kernel. It seems like MultiROM would be easily ported between devices since it's not specific to a particular device.. But that's only an assumption from someone who knows nothing.
I know nothing of developing, but wish I had a computer so I could try to help out.
Thanks for your work. If you have the TWRP file available, could you PM me a link?

Just remembered, it was a kexec patch that the kernel needed in moto G. Not sure if that helps you any as I have no idea what it means. But pretty sure without it, you could load ROMs on the device but they wouldn't boot without the Primary ROMs kernel being kexec patched.
Here's a link to some info about porting MultiROM. I'll keep looking in to it and if I can get a PC, I'll even try to figure it all out.

If I already made it I probably know all about it :silly: but of course knowing what is needed and make it fully work is another history, I know you may be excited to have it but is not my priority and will not be for some time I already do too much for this device.

Oh, I understand. I wasn't pushing for you to make it. I was just pointing out a relevant thread. It seems pretty straight forward from that description as long as the device follows the guidelines of what works. But as I said, I'm no dev.
I can do without MultiROM but I don't know why people wouldn't want it or think it's not useful. For someone who loves to flash and use different ROMs it puts them one click away from multiple ROMs at boot.
Maybe I can come across a PC one of these days and tinker with it.

Just an update for this post. Multi-ROM has now been released by @bhb27, plus we now have SEVEN Nougat ROMs.

But as I explained in post #2, the "lack of development" for this phone was always a faulty statement. Development on this phone has been constant since the very beginning. We've had several ROMs to choose from and many tools and apps.

Thanks for the update.
The "lack of development" was already explained. There are plenty of ROMs to tinker with for the Quark and that is great... But venture in to the Moto G section and you will see just how many options there are for that device. I don't think it officially made it past KitKat and there are well over 9 Nougat ROMs, plus kernels, mods, etc for that phone and it's still kicking after 5 years or so.
It was never a knock on development of the Quark or "lack there of"....rather I was a bit surprised that there weren't more people with this phone and more devs pumping out builds like I was used to for the falcon. Not a big deal.

On my view "devs pumping out builds" is not always a great thing.
Some developer are only producing more without any care for quality or care to help in the improve of development, they are just using the known good recipe to build for that device from CM/LOS repos or wherever they fell is good, downloading the source give some commands and without any real development from they side producing a ROM, I know learn somethings takes time, but after some long time some developer don't ever try move from that side of just producing a ROM using others work to produce a ROM with they on changes/fixes and sharing that to others so the development can improve.
big community of developers working together trying to improve development great, great number of ROM/development projects not equal to that.
you are also trying to compara quark 2014 device to falcon 2013 device, a years of development on a much cheaper device is not far, as the cheapness will make it more available and popular, falcon was probably released on more markets then quark, and time will help to make people interested on to doing development to it, Droid Turbo 2 is another good sample of unpopular device for development.
Hello Guys! I am receiving my OP3T tomorrow and wanted to know the list of the primary kernels or ROMs which support multiROM. I want to run CM14.1 and OxygenOS in the multiboot configuration and wanted to know the best config in your opinion. Seeing that the CM14.1 has bugs I'm thinking of running OxygenOS as my daily driver and booting CM14.1 as primary ROM (I want O2OS to be as stock as possible and this config would give me stock kernel).
few more questions :
1. Is it possible to run OxygenOS as secondary OS without root in the dualboot config? (I've read that O2OS will re encrypt data? Should I just root it?)
2. Does the default CM kernel suport MultiROM? I've seen people there using MultiROM but have no clue of their configration though)
3. suggested multirom setup in your opinion
TIA
It doesn't matter what ROMs you use as primary for multirom because it works without a patched kernel. The only thing is that some kernels have problems with touch on the multirom boot menu where you select the ROM to boot so you have to set it via TWRP. I know for sure that blu_spark kernel has this fixed, not sure about the others.
Oxygen OS as secondary should be possible but I can't tell you anything about encryption and stuff
Thanks for the reply. My OP3T arrived today and I installed a bunch of ROMS on it using the MultiROM mod. I think the MultiROM zip modded the OxygenOS kernel to support the touchscreen so everything is working fine with OxygenOS as my primary ROM with its default kernel
until now i have no perfect working custom rom....
CM14.1 from 14 Dec has LED issue
CM14.1 ResurrectionRemix from 14 Dec also has the LED notification issue
CM14.1 ResurrectionRemix from 17 Dec stops during flash
CM13 Sultan has display issue when it goes to sleep...
and Oxygen i don't like because there are a lot of settings missing
hope the next days the issues will be solved - until now i'm not allowed to post in the development forum
No offense but CM13 has no issue for me like you described and I've been running it since the day it came out. Works fine with multirom and oxygen also. I used it to compare cameras on CM13 and stock oxygen. Compared pics without moving my hand in both roms and then deleted Oxygen. Cam is equally good or bad in both so CM13 was the obvious choice for me.
Don't know about the others but my phone auto switches off on cm13. My best guess would be the undervolting / underclocking Sultan might have done. Didn't care about reading any log but this bug happened to me long back on other devices when I tried to undervolt. Also the display bug was there too.
BTW IMO it is only a matter of time before OP3 and OP3T get unified builds so I'd say just wait for a few more days for bug free ROMS

1) Why did you cross post in the PN thread?
2) Why would you think that a ROM which is actively being developed is unsafe to install?

I'm sure when the devs feel their Rom(s) is stable, to their satisfaction, they'll post an official link for it.
As far as safety is concerned, I've never encountered anything negative in regards to security with ROMs from XDA.
If you're concerned about stability, no harm in waiting a while until a Rom that you are interested in changes it's status to stable.

There are other Oreo roms for N6, although one was based on S.i.X Oreo, and one has ceased development. S.i.X Oreo build is as safe as it gets. There was a S.i.X Oreo thread here in Nexus 6 Adroid Developement, but it was closed by the developer because people published links to his rom without permission. You'll have to do your own search on Google to find it, but it's well worth the effort to find. The developer has continued to update S.i.X Oreo , now at 1.9 and in a few days 2.0. Everything is working except NFC, because it was removed for now, and OK Google which works partially. It's smooth, fast, reliable, no reboots or fc issues as reported in earlier releases, and on other N6 Oreo roms. S.iX Oreo is the smoothest and best of the Oreo roms that have popped up here on XDA. It was the first Oreo release for the N6 and there were other developers in the SiX Oreo telegram chat getting help from Frankie with their own Oreo roms. When S.i.X Oreo left XDA and went underground the Oreo roms slowed or stopped! Hmmmm. So, it seems that S.i.X Oreo is the one to stick with. Just Google it, you'll see. Enjoy!
Greetings Friends,
I have seen very little development or developers for this device is very rare because the A1 before releasing the Kernel already had development, and this device was already released the kernel but I still see little development.
Yeah i dunno why developers not intrested in this device

Longer than A1 when it takes first customs
Before Launching the source code of the A1 Kernel and there were ROMS and Magisk modules for this phone, the participation is very minimal, I think they were all for the RN5.
I just hope developers will have a look at Mi A2. Is it too early to expect development?

Lineage for the A1 started 6 months after the release.
edit: Also the Pie update is near so probably nobody wants to waste time on bringing up a 8.1. based rom.
Another thing is that it has Treble GSI A/B support, so you can install a variety of already popular roms right off the bat. I know a custom kernel is under development that has both overclock and underclock as well. I am currently using the Arrow GSI rom and it works very well. I have xposed and root, I also get way better battery life than with the stock rom. The only bug I have is the front flashlight turns on when I use the front camera. You can flash any of the A/B roms on this site if you want more roms.
It even includes Pie roms and lineage os. I see no reason devs would want to spend time making something that already exists.
They will most likely work on kernel development/tweaks to fix bugs in the already existing treble roms, like the camera bug in the rom I am using.

Okay, sounds fair enough. The thing is that you'll have to flash ROMs on your own to check what is better for you.
I'll recommend you to open ROM section of Redmi 4X and and in new tab open YouTube and check and compare what suits for you because everyone has different choices and usage.
For me this ROM works great in terms of battery backup, performance and features (which is important to me)
Oreo based...
Resurrection Remix
dot OS
Havoc OS (ignore final build it has random reboot issue)
Pie based...
Arrow OS.
Havoc OS(using currently and it has good battery backup)
crDroid
Waiting for dot OS

Okay, go for Arrow OS then it has very limited customisation and it is close to stock Android You can check its UI and review on YouTube.
I haven't tried lineage OS (both Oreo and Pie) I like feature full of ROM which is can customize the way I want so I can't say anything about lineage OS but it you can check its thread for more details and it's stability, battery backup and bugs related stuff.

I don't get what you want exactly?
Custom roms are usually based on lineage OS and they get modified further by different rom developers and rom community.
There's currently no official Android pie based lineage OS available as I am writing this comment, however there's lineage Oreo ROM available which is nightly build.
If you only want to flash lineage OS then flash it. Pie ROM unofficially available flash it if you want to. They do get updated once developers avails it.
Also I did not get why are you sharing this stuff here, I think it's irrelevant.
There's also many other roms gives ota's and IMO it doesn't matter much if it's ota's or not. One can flash it manually. Only benefit is we get to know new update is available.
Wait for lineage OS pie official or flash Oreo based official lineage OS.
Seriously decide first what you want, I've given much of my time I think it won't be possible for me to do.

You'll find several custom roms official ones and unofficial ones.
Official ones are supported by its rom community and developers here help each other to build builds. you'll often see in credits that several rom community and developers helped to build it.
Unofficial ones are those builds which individual developer(s) built it on their own time they might have taken help from other developers (individual or from community)
XDA is most trusted among android enthusiast website. i can't say anything about other websites.
Custom roms needs to uploaded on their own website or some other cloud storage such as Gdrive, androidfilehost, sourceforge. usually this are download pages you'll be directed to.
If there is any other community or website i can't say anything about it.
Your discretion is advised in such cases.
For your information i've never had any issues with links shared on xda.
it is hard work from developers and community which avails custom rom to us which i appreciate and same goes to XDA.
If any case you are skeptical do not proceed, but it is better than that Xiaomi's MIUI which where they clearly said we will use user data and process it and data will send to their servers.
