Q&A- Rooting Exynos 8895 Octa - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

Hi All,
Just got my N8 - N950F and wondering if anyone has Rooted it? Didn't see any thread on rooting yet.

Might be a little early in the game for that. I'm sure devs are working on it but there's nothing in the Android Development forum yet.

[SM-N920R4] Anyone want to port a ROM For us? [Will Donate]

As the title implies, I would be more than willing to donate my phone (to use, not keep!) so one of you great devs can port a ROM For the US Cellular variant of the Note 5. It seems development is always lacking for our phones. I've already rooted it, just hoping to see some awesome custom ROMS / Kernels. If you are a developer and feel generous, please feel free to pm me or respond to this thread. Thanks.
BUMP
Willing to donate my phone + some monetary incentive to any devs willing to port a good rom. I'm a custom ROM addict, just the US Cellular variant Note 5 is lacking in development as usual

I think the reason no one's building roms for certain variants of the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 is because of the Exynos cpu.. Apparently it has to many bugs on CyanogenMod that aren't able to be fixed easily.. What cpu does yours have?

It's got the Exynos 7420. I know the s7 has the quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon, (at least here in the US) but honestly the reason I held onto my Note 5 is because I like the Exynos 8 core processor. I'm sure eventually some devs will work out the bugs and start development. It's just a matter of time. I remember it took quite a while for custom ROMS to start showing up for my US Cellular S3.

I'm willing to give it a shot since you've already got root.. I just have to find the correct source code so I'll look around and see if I can find anything on github and Google and talk to a few of my dev friends and try to get it going on my nix box.

News on root for s6 active?

Hi guys, and gals, and whoever else,
IS there any news on the root? I have android 5.0 (?) on g890 model of this phone, or so the specs say.
Unlocked carrier.
But is there any news?
I know the 1000 dollar bounty is still out, but has anyone achieved progress with this particular version?
Can I just ask, what seems to be the CURRENT issue with root at the moment?
Thanks.

Why More Roms for Exynos than SnapDragon

Hey Everyone!
I pretty much have had the Note 9 since it came it, and i always keep on eye on the forums for Roms and stuff.
I have the Snapdragon CPU and i just thought that the development for Roms was off to slow start but then i checked Exynos Forums and they have so many Roms. i was just curious if anyone could tell me why that is. also i thought that the Snapdragon Cpu was the one everyone would prefer. Thanks in Advance for everyone that is able to discuss this with me.
US snapdragon versions have locked bootloaders. Not very many other regions with snapdragon. The Exynos version is the international version, so I believe there would be more of them and they have a boot loader that can be unlocked.

Possible rom ?

Hi guys !
I was wondering if roms will emerge on our devices.
I know it's complicated with the magisk boot but..
We never know :fingers-crossed:
only zip some MODs: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s10/development/g97x-soldier9312s-g97x-aroma-mod-zip-1-t3918538
I have had the same question. I wonder why there hasn't been more development for the S10 Plus ? I wonder if it has to do with the fragmentation caused by having 3 different versions of the S10 ? or is there something about the way the S10 is pu t together that makes development more difficult.
There has also been quite a few developers that do not use XDA any more for many different reasons - Echoe - Minnotaurus, Griffen are just a few that have roms for previous Galaxy Devices (note 9, S9, S8, etc) that are not on XDA any more - so frankly, there could be a rom out there that we don't know about yet....I don't think there is but there could be, how would we know if they are not on XDA Right? so - I hope for development sometime soon - but things are moving slowly at the very least - (slower than I anticipated anyway)

Fully featured Samsung ROM for A6

Do I have your attention now?
Good.
Hi guys. We were discussing on our A6 group that the regular 7870 A6 gets very little love.
Mainly because it's not a very good phone. But that's why it needs more love than its getting, so that the experience of owning it doesn't suck as much xD
Well, I happened to mention that I love my S8 ROM for the J6 because it is fully featured. Even with Pie released and even with 64bit vendor, I always return to my S8+ ROM. I just love it so much.
So, I offered the opportunity to port it to the A6.
Now, there are a couple of things I need to make clear before actually doing this.
As of now, porting ROMs in Pie is a bit difficult because you can't deodex the whole firmware properly, that is why I have not really done any Pie porting.
This port would be Oreo!
Deodexing Oreo has 0 problems and I can easily try to fix problems that happen due to pop up.
So, what would be the benefits?
Imagine being able to use edge screen! Infinity wallpapers! Smart select, bixby vision, scroll capture!
Sure, you don't have the latest OS, but I think having Oreo is good enough
That being said, I do need some active testers. I don't own an A6 so porting will require somebody with the device to test.
If you are interested, leave your comment here and I will contact you when possible to try to make this a reality.
I'll leave you guys with some captures to see if it motivates you a little

A6 a little bit better because exynos base, but the siblings (A6+) far more worse because snapdragon base :silly: .
my target port very limited..only A8star, A9 2018. i have some thought also to port from s8/s9/note8/note9, but all those series must be come from china open/hongkong region (snapdragon) which could lead me to getting more problems.
after seeing that you successful porting from S8 oreo maybe i also will try from s8 hongkong region
currently i also running A9 2018 port and all bugs has been solved (from released version in here).
the feature almost same from your port but i don't have edge lighting

With a full deodex, you can port no matter the SoC. I've ported both SD and Exynos to Mediatek Sammy phone. I think in general, Samsung likes to use very general lib stuff

i don't think so...even in kernel, how it load stuffs, fstab, etc,, SD and exynos is different. maybe if to mediatek it will work as you said, but if from exy to SD or vice versa it will not work.
regarding lib probably until oreo, starting on pie seems so many changes
Will AOD work? If so I would glad to return to Oreo

Hello guys,I would like to know if the Rom is suitable for the Samsung Sm-A600FN
Complete noob
Could I flash it like stock firmware? And could I obtain camera 2 api? I have A6+ sm-a605fn, it's worth nothing to me if I can't get camera 2 api, so I am more than willing to try, except that I"m a noob and have no clue what deodex is.
Happy to help
Would it be suitable for the SM-A600T1? If so I would be more than willing to aid you in your development and test it for you.
