Direct from Samsung Carrier Branded - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

Ok odd question. When doing the "Former Note 7" process i can select a carrier, AT&T in my case. I thought the only phones offered for the Note 7 people were the US unlocked ones and thus not that carrier branded phones?
Or am i just interpreting it wrong and these are the unlocked ones just with a carrier SIM included?

You can choose an unlocked or a carrier branded phone when ordering from Samsung US. All of them will be the US Snapdragon versions. AFAIK, the unlocked ones are heavily backordered and won't ship til October (vs the carrier-locked ones which will ship out this week), but Samsung has also said they'll be shipping out all preorders before the 14th so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Hmm originally I couldn't do that. Why now wouldn't I return my AT&T one I paid full price for and order one for $425 off through Samsung? Besides I may have to wait.

Unlocked S5 for different carriers

I have T-Mobile and recently purchased an unlocked, brand new S5 that is AT&T branded - the box, case say ATT and it has some ATT apps on it. It appears to work fine on T-Mobile. However, would it be better to purchase T-Mobile specific version and return AT&T one? The price is about the same.
Thanks!

Will This phone have the bootloader unlocked for the american Market.

It will be locked which is why ive been recommending people buy the exynos version.
We went through this on the s7 (CAN version was exynos) note 7, s8...all NA versions which are snapdragons are BL locked.
sent from my Note FE, S8 plus, or S6
yea if you want a note 8 get an exynos version not a snapdragon which is what tmo and all the other carriers will be selling. like the s8... in us its the sm-g955u sometimes there will be additional letters like a T (t-mobile). The U stands for carrier unlocked or unlockable dont confuse that with bootloader unlockable. There are also sm-g955f which is what the rest of the world has. The F stands for international. They are where the partys gonna be. Their "unlocked" any sim will work, but the bootloader will be unlockable so we will have custom rom developement

I already purchased a pre-order on Ebay - you pay a little more when you buy pre orders (maybe a lot more - depends on how you look at it) but I am not good about waiting. My PHone is supposed to ship around the 20th - 23rd of september - possibly sooner but don't knwo for sure.
Varient for International Versions is N950F (someone mentioned G955F but that is the Galaxy S8 Plus.
I am excited - can't wait to get it in my hands....

Where are you seeing the N950F? I'm not finding any on eBay, Amazon, or any other site for sale in USD. Also, is this European variant the only model that will have an unlockable bootloader?
Will the N950F have all bands/frequencies for US carriers? From what I found at https://www.techwalls.com/samsung-galaxy-note-8-sm-n950-model-number-differences, it looks like it has almost all compared to the N950A, but there are a few that are missing. Thanks

Presuming you already paid off your phone? Damn, this is where I get stuck behind, since I finance an JUMP on t-mo. I'd be stuck with 2 phone payments

I pay cash on full for all my phones then when I buy a new one I sell the old on swappa. I usually get very good sales prices when I ultimately sell them. I will sell my s8plus when I get my note8.

Man, that's a lot to drop up front. Though I presume if you sell in a year, you would typically get 30-50% back if it's the INTL version....
Still debating on how to go about this one.
I try to sell the phone I own for as much as I can. I believe I can probably get around $650 to $700 for the S8 Plus G955F I own now - it is in like new condition - not a scratch - I also will include several screen protectors and cases. that I was given that I will also include to add value and to help sell it quickly)

Ordering the Exynos for USA

There have been several conflicting statements regarding the region locking of the international version, UK. Wanted to get a confirmation that ordering the Galaxy S10 won't require a region unlock, making a 5-10 minute phone call in the purchasing country, before using it internationally. Is this the case with ordering the international version, and forwarding it to the USA?
Is there any service that lets me order from Samsung, region unlock the said device, and ship it to the USA?
I would like to purchase from Samsung to get the buds and a trade-in credit which you cannot do with Amazon or Clove. Is there anyway around it? To get the buds and trade-in credit while region unlocking the device, if I even have to worry about it.

There can be region lock issues unless where you buy the phone from sets it up properly before they ship it. When I buy from Clove UK, they turn on the phone and let it work with a local Sim Card before they pack it up and ship it. This elminates any issues with region unlock. In fact, I have never had the issue of OEM Unlock missing on an of the phones I have purchased from Clove UK unlike what many people have to deal with. So I encourage you to go to the CLOVE UK site and buy which ever one you want. Great Service - good prices - fast shipping. Good Luck.
I saw Clove there are also some people that have gotten their F variants here:

Amazon has the international versions for under MSRP. The S10 128 was $850 last I checked.

How to buy the right Note 9 for the US

I'm considering buying a Note 9. I usually buy a year old model of a flagship phone when the prices come down. I see lots of Note 9 phones on amazon for reduced prices. It appears there are several different models and the descriptions from the sellers are usually not clear.
I saw another thread that said all the US versions were the same hardware. Can I buy an unlocked Sprint, Verizon, AT&T, or T-Mobile phone and use it on any carrier? I will mostly be using AT&T and T-Mobile for now.
How could I tell if a phone is the US non-carrier branded model?
Can I flash a more universal ROM to a carrier branded phone and get rid of the carrier bloatware? Will the universal ROM still pass MDM security checks so I can use it with my company's MDM (Intune)?

Buy the USA unlocked model U1. You can then flash the USA T Mobile or AT&T rooms should you wish.
However, I also read that AT&T doesnt allow full network speeds for non AT&T devices. Maybe someone with an unlocked U1 on AT&T can chime in.

I have been running unlocked bought directly from Samsung phones since the note7 and I use them on AT&T. I am in Wyoming, and have noticed no loss of speed. I have Verizon for work phone and my unlocked phones is always faster in speed tests . Not very scientific buy my experience.

Question Still carrier branded?

It's been a while since i have had a Samsung device so i thought i would put the message to the Samsung users, are they still branded with the carrier bootup screen like they used to be? If so is a carrier branded device limited by access to beta updates(My Huawei P30 Pro this wasn't possible)? I understand Knox is still a thing and i don't want to end up tripping it, deciding between ordering from Three UK on Contract or direct from Samsung. Any info is appreciated.
Cheers
My last Vodafone purchase (S8+) didn't have any branding on boot up.
S10 direct from Samsung was as it came from the factory.
S21 Ultra ordered from CPW today on Voda contract should be free from any branding as well i would imagine.
