I actually have carrier insurance on it, I purchased a SquareTrade warranty for my Nexus 7, I know its a cheap device (comparatively) but hey for the money and 2 years of coverage its worth it.
The code for those who don't know is for a 30% discount on a SquareTrade Warranty. When you buy a warranty they will send you one time codes from time to time. If you don't have a need just post the code on a forum like I did and pay it forward. Someone did it for me, so I did it in turn.
Happy Holidays to all.

With SquareTrade, it's just "Android Smartphone, 2yrs for $125" I'm a little leery of the stated $99 deductible. ~$200 to cover? Square Trade is awesome, but 1/4 the price of the device, and almost as much as you paid on contract seems a little steep.
Hard to decide between SquareTrade and Sprint.
SquareTrade is cheaper monthly at $7 than Sprint at $11, but Sprint covers theft and loss. Also, if your phone just stops working, Sprint will replace it for free (but with a refurbished unit); whereas SquareTrade will give you a check for the full retain value of the phone so you can buy a new one. SquareTrade deductible is only $99 while Sprint is $200 I think for the Note II if you just bust the phone. With Sprint you can get it repaired locally or replaced within 2 days. With SquareTrade you are looking more at a few weeks. Sprint will give you a loaner phone while yours is being repaired or replaced whereas with SquareTrade you are phoneless (a problem).
Hmmm. Have to stick with Sprint. More expensive and higher deductible but much more convenient and broader coverage.
After looking around and trying to find a good warranty option the best I could find I think is from square trade. However, I was wondering if anyone had any more in depth experience. With all the issues about devices bricking and what not I started looking around. I really can't afford another $600 device but $100 for a warranty isn't such a big deal. Any advice?
I agree. Seeing as how the phone's parts are barely user replaceable, I definitely needed an insurance plan. So I did some looking around, and found that the Geek Squad protection from Best Buy worked the best for me.
Best Buy (Geek Squad) - $169.99 up-front for two years OR $9.99 per month (if the device nees to gets replaced, the $169.99 plan has to be renewed/you pay another $169.99)
Sprint TEP - $11 per month, $150 deductible. Premium is $9 per month
SquareTrade - $125 for two years (less if you find coupon, $99 deductible

You can also pick up a squaretrade warranty on amazon for 99 bucks with the 99 deductible. Plus all my experiences with geeksquad has been pretty bad based on my Xbox problems
I had my One for a couple months and no insurance. Can I still pick up an insurance plan through sprint or geek squad with my 60+ days old phone??
No issues with phone, just regret no plan purchase since i love this phone so much.
Best buy still make you wait weeks for a replacement refurbished?

If Best Buy has refurbished in stock it is supposed to be there within like 3 days. I got my new phone on July 2nd and it had a horrible accident on July 5th (fell as I slammed the car door and bent in half and still worked). Went to best buy and they ordered a replacement which being so new was not in stock. Said they would attempt to get a replacement for 14 days and if they couldn't I would get a brand new one from the store. They called me on the 17th (12 days) to let me know that a new store replacement was approved. You can also get a loaner from them while waiting for a refundable deposit.

Didn't carry any on my iPhone 4s but I had nothing but problems with the 'certified' refurbs Verizon's Asurion service sent me back when I had problems with my Droid 1.
Read about Worth Ave Group... Seems promising.
So what's the general opinion on insurance? Is there a third party insurance that works well?

I have had good luck with Squaretrade in the past. They are a lot cheaper than Verizon insurance and provide the same coverage for accidental damage.

I'd go with SquareTrade you have two options to pay monthly or yearly at least that's how it was 2 years ago. With SquareTrade though you pay either a $50 or $100 deposit and take it to a local repair place and no matter the cost squaretrade will cover it.
The only thing I don't know is if they cover lost or stolen devices but come on its 2015 if you lose your phone your better off with a straight talk phone

asurion insurance replaces the phone with a Brand New Phone. Not sure how much it costs, i believe $9 a month. But you have to pay a deductible of $100.

I had 2 claims in the past with Asurion, in both cases I received a "refurb" phone......

No they do not. I have had 6 claims over the last 13 years with Verizon and ALL were refurbs. It says this clearly on the website and your Iinsurance documentation.

You sure they aren't refurb? You know it doesn't say anything on the box right? Maybe it if was a new release they didn't have any refurbished but I've never gotten a new phone nor have I ever seen anyone. Your lucky
I have had two claims with Asurion...I believe both were refurbs but they looked and functioned as good as new...you basically couldn't tell the difference. But they do not cost any more than the other guys out there and they do provide for lost or STOLEN phones whereas I do not thin the others do at all. Your choice. But for what these new phones cost, and the fact that I cannot live without it for even a day...insurance is a must for me!
The way Asurion works is that, if available, you get a Certifiled Like New replacement. If there's none currently available, they will replace it with a new device instead (for example at the very beginning of a phone release, it's not like the mfr makes a batch of refurb phones for insurance company replacements). In the event that there are neither available, then you get additional options. A limited list of comparable replacement devices, basically. Or, there may be case by case instances where you'll get an upgrade for reduced or no cost. Obviously a lot less common, and we did have people all the time would get a phone, decide they didn't like it, and try to push for a different device under replacement. Unless you have repeated troubles with the same device in a short time, they generally aren't going to switch a model out.
+1 on squaretrade...I also have them for large appliances and they've been awesome!
So no one has used Worth Ave. Group? I'll look into squaretrade but the last time I had insurance, I ended up using it. I had a pristine condition Droid that developed an issue with the screen and I filed my claim. I went through (4) 'certified' refurbs for one failure after another and ended up switching to iPhone after it was all said and done. My first phone was great, the rest were a constant problem. I've read up and down votes for Worth Ave but not in an environment like here so who knows what they're worth. But primarily I like the idea of avoiding dealing with any more refurbished devices.
And I know, your mileage may vary... My experiences could be unique to the model I was using but from what I do remember, it was an infuriating process. I definitely appreciate all the opinions thus far!
I have Verizon's Asurion and they not only sent me a brand new phone, it was the newer version (Moto X to Moto X 2014) I will be sticking with them for my S6 Edge purchase this weekend...
have Asurion and just spent $200 cause of a cracked screen and that will be the end of that although i did get a new unit but only because it was so new anyway.
for $129 one time payment and up to 3 uses in 2 years coverage you can get Sammy's Protection with a $95 deductible versus Asurions $200 so i am cancelling Asurion and going with that one.
I purchased the Note 8 for TMO from Samsung direct. I've never purchased insurance before because the deductibles were so high, but I've never owned a phone this expensive before either. I can get TMO, Samsung or Geek Squad coverage and I am wondering about the pro's and cons of the offerings.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I just did squaretrade. I like it that it's a one time pay vs a monthly, I can use it for future phones, deductible is $99 and I can use it 3 times per plan. I rarely keep a phone for more then a year so works for me.
I used worth ave group. It was around $80 a year. Deductible is $50.
I used it twice to fix my wife's broken iPhone screen. Did not have any issues.

Question, the most I can choose is $899. The phone is more expensive than that.
Square trade for my note 8 tmobile 104 for 2 years and 99 deductible have been using them for about 7 years and never had a problem with them

I choose that amount. I figured if the phone was a total lose I would eat the other $50. I mainly have it incase I crack the screen.

Thanks for the tip. Will check them out.
Was thinking about Samsungs premum care insurance ..
I just looked at the Squaretrade and it does not cover loss/theft. Also, it's unclear what happens if you crack the screen or the back and they don't have replacement parts. I seriously doubt they have replacement screens for N8 at this point. Will they cover buying a new device?

For the first time ever I accepted the sales outlets insurance. 12.00€ per month. All risks so I am told BUT I have every confidence should I need to make a claim there will be the normal insurance situations?
As you wrote this is an expensive mobile device that is large and could be dropped. I think insurance is worth it in this case.
I suggest you enquire at the outlet you made your purchase. Failing that what about approaching the same company who insures your home or car or whatever? The only other thing I would mention is there is no such thing as cheap, good, insurance. Use a reputable company. Let us know what you find. :highfive:

It does not cover theft. Honestly the phone never leaves my side and if I get it stolen from me its fairly useless to anybody.
Squaretrade is the best bang for your buck.
Look for 20 to 30 percent off coupons.
Bump for more opinions.
Thanks for the input. I ended up choosing Squaretrade. It cost $159 for three years of coverage which covers the N8 and a new phone when I buy it. They are having a special right now. The deductible is $99. I've never lost a phone, so I decided damage protection is all I really need.
Variables...
Depends on your usage and how often you switch phones.
I'm on this two jump thingy. All i need is a year of phone coverage. With the wort have group, that 1 year is like 80 bux i think? I dont plan to use it because i am not clumsy like some people.
But if you plan to keep this device longer than a year, then square trade is the first option I'd pick.
I am going to go with samsung, having an unlocked phone both AT&T and Verizon said they would not offer me insurance.

If you bank with Wells Fargo you can get $600 of phone insurance with a $25 deductible by just paying your phone bill with their Visa card. That's enough to cover a broken screen. I've used it once and it worked out well.

Wish I had found ones that actually worked.
I purchased squaretrade. they have been around about as long as ebay has. I found this post and it had some great information about phone insurance.
I also went with Squaretrade. I have never lost a phone or had one stolen (knock on wood and all of that), so I'm not too worried about that. They were nice enough to refund me the entire price of the Squaretrade plan I had on my S7E, since I'd never used it in the 10.5 months I've had it on their plan. So the cost of a 2 year policy for the Note 8 is only like $50 net.
possibly looking to purchase phone insurance for my note 8. I currently have one through t mobile that's 10.00 a month with a 175.00 deductible. I used them once last year for my s7 edge. they weren't horrible but I was a little upset that I had a black s7 edge and they sent me a silver one. I know they cant guarantee a color but the fact the phone was only released 2 months prior and not have that color was kind of crap IMO. i was either thinking of going with square trade or Samsung premium care. my only issue is that i may want insurance that covers lost devices as well which neither of these companies have. Any input and experiences you guys have had would be great to read.
Are you saying you can buy insurance for said phones after a purchase or do you have to get it at the same day of the purchase? Because I made a terrible mistake by not buying insurance for my s7 edge and now I'm stuck with a broken phone lol

SquareTrade here, $129 for 2 years and $99 deductible if something happens (other than loss or stolen obviously). Have never lost or had a phone stolen in all my smartphone years so that's a non-issue for me. I'll gladly pay $129 for piece of mind and $228 in total for a $1000 phone if something happens.
I have tmobile insurance it has helped me out a lot .get it it covers loss theft and damage...

Same here. Hopefully we'll never have to use it.
I have cover through my Bank Account in UK (Nationwide) - fee for the account is £13 /month, for worldwide travel insurance, worldwide Mobile Phone insurance and a few other benefits including great interest rate on balances. It covers all my household (Me and My Hubby, but if you had children it would cover) and covers devices up to £1000 in value, with £50 excess for either loss, theft, damage or breakdown, max of 2 claims per account per year. Worth enquiring anyway....
