No auto-rotate on Home screen with Huawei P10 - Huawei P10 Questions & Answers

Hi there,
I'm a happy owner of a Huawei P10 from a month.
I commonly have been using Nova Launcher on my previous devices, because I love it and one features I like that is usually missing in other stock launcher, is to allow autorotation even in home screen.
Since with this P10 I like very much native launcher "Huawei Home" and I would like to keep and use it without third part apps, as far as I read from other forums and documentation, I should have "auto-rotate" switch in my Home configuration screen ...
Nevertheless, if I long press an empty area in home screen --> Settings, that entry is missing.
In the attached picture, you can see where it should be, but actually is not there.
Does it depends from other previous setting? What I'm doing wrong?
My Huawei P10 rom build (serial) is VTR-L09C55B130, EMUI 5.1, Android 7.0, Android Security Patch date: June 5th, 2017
Any suggestions will be very appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Gabo

I don't have it either in the 164 version.

Huawei P9 EMUI 5 Recent Apps Grid ?

Hello~
Recently I have updated mu Huawei P9 (EVA-L09) to Android 7, EMUI 5 (5.0.1) and if there is one thing I don't like about it, it's the recent apps view.
Previously on EMUI 4 it was nice grid-like which was scrolling from left to right nad to throw out app I had to swing up.
Now they screwed it up and made it like a stack which must be scrolled up-down and left-right swing closes the app.
Is there any way to change it to more grid-like like in EMUI 4?
I have access to TWRP, Magisk, root so no holding back here.
I have tried adding custom prop by Magisk
Code:
ro.recents.grid=true
but that didn't do the trick so far.
Any help will be welcome.
Thank you for advance and have a nice day.

P10 and Android Pie Gestures

hi guys!
well I made this threads to know how you think huawei is gonna solve this "issue" in phones with front buttons like the huawei P10.
do you think huawei is gonna integrate the new gestures in the home button?
or maybe huawei is not planning integrating this gesture based navigation?
personally I think it's gonna be a little bit tricky because of the placement of the home button, It's so close to the screen that swiping up probably is gonna trigger the home button, and placing the "pill" higher it's gonna be counterproductive.
what do you think guys?
I don't think Huawei is going to invest a lot in the P10, so do not expect significant changes anymore.
some websites are saying that p10 is going to receive the gpu patch and android p in the future so it might have gestures, it's up to them how they decide to implement.
the fingerprinter navigation works the best for me so personally i can live with it and skip the gestures on android p.
i dont think it will receive android pie update
P9 got oreo. I don't see why P10 will not get P.
If we talk about lite versions then yes, they won't be getting any major update than security patches.

Honor Play Android Security Patch for December released soon after EMUI 9.0.0 update

Device info: Honor Play, Model (Indian): COR-AL00
As you'll know EMUI 9 is globally rolling out, I have received the Pie update on Jan 10th which is sized about 4.04 GB. Again on Jan 18th I received another update which is an Android Security Patch dated December 1, 2018. It is sized about 240 MB.
See the screen shots below.
Whats new in the update:
> Nothing much. I felt not much of any difference in my daily usage after the update except the ones mentioned above. Digital Balance feature is good to keep yourself away from mobile if used properly. Or you can lose the Balance and abuse it anyway. Its your choice after all.
> Battery performance is same again. Its good like before.
> EMUI interface has some minor changes like revamped Call Screen, Recent Apps, HiTouch for Shopping, etc.
> Gestures are same as previous ones. Still senseless.
swipe from left/right edges for back (****ty gesture)
swipe up from bottom center to home
swipe up from bottom right/left for Assistant
> Suggestion here: disable the Assistant gesture in the Settings for better multitasking.
Bugs:
> I have one. It may not be present for others I suppose. After rebooting device goes to zzzVIBRATIONzzz mode on its own. I have to manually turn off vibration mode every f time.
> EMUI is just a mimic of iOS like all Chinese mobiles do. But transitions are not as smooth as iOS. Sometimes UI transitions jitters just like that. Of course Android mobiles can never make it up to Apple's iOS when it comes to interface design.
> Apps got killed in the background. May be due to aggressive memory management. Keep your favorite apps padlocked in the Recents screen to prevent this from happening. I hate Recents screen personally. Its like going back to old iPhone interface.
You should know that:
> Third-party launchers (Nova too) won't work properly from EMUI 9 as Huawei announced officially.
> Widevine level is L3. Some may want to know this.
> Themes are limited as of now as EMUI 9 is new to the market.
> Its a worthy upgrade for me. No going back.
I highly doubt whether Honor Play will have any Custom ROMs developed in the future as we'll know bootloader cannot be unlocked. XDA page for this device is useful only for information & news sharing I think. Or correct me if I'm wrong. Thank you.
Let me know if you have any queries regarding update...
:good:
Best way to avoid aggressive memory management is to change display to 720p!
As mentioned by another user on here ?
I don't notice any loss of quality of screen, working fine for me!
Europe just got 9.0.0.161 with January security patch

Go to Settings>Battery>App Launch. Uncheck those apps you want to keep running in background i.e. manage manually. That's the solution.
If accessibility permission of 3rd party apps are being revoked automatically and you are annoyed of turning it on repeatedly, it's the solution.

Thanks for this. I removed almost all apps from running in background. The usage has become significantly better.

No more lock screen timeout with Android 9?

Hello,
only recently I purchased the Huawei P20 Pro (with Android 8) and was very pleased with the timeout option for the lock screen, with allowed me to disable the auto lock for a reasonable amount of minutes after turning off the screen.
However, after the update to Android 9 Pie I cannot find the option anymore. Was it removed or where can I find it? Are there maybe apps that would bring back this option?
Thanks!

The feature seems to be missing on all EMUI 9 phones, i can't find it on the P10 or View 20 either. Strange, it is such a major bug but not reported anywhere!

Android 10 gestures

Hello!
Just updated to Android 10 and switched to the new gesture navigation and I love it. The inconvenience is that they seem to work only with the stock launcher which is terrible. Any workaround this issue ?
Well, i got Android 10 update yesterday (not beta but official live version). I use Nova launcher prime. Somehow gestures work - at least back button, to the home screen button and last used apps button all work. Double tap to open Bixby works too for me in Nova. I did Android upgrade, without phone reset.
NB! Nova launcher states in settings, that gestures don't work...but like i said, they work for me.
Such a shame that Samsung still makes a crappy launcher with no special features.
I guess we'll have to wait for updates, the pixel 4 got an update that made gestures work with 3rd party launchers.
I'm the same (Nova Prime), and my gestures are just as they were pre-upgrade - which I'm kind of happy about. But I just don't quite understand why! I didn't think launcher would affect it.
I'm sure that after Android 10 goes final you'll see a lot of apps update. I can understand a developer not wanting to spend a lot of time developing an app for beta compatibility. Even Samsung waits on their own apps while in beta, e.g. Good Lock.

Erm...don't know if you are aware but the beta program is over, the final software is available via OTA update, I am not running a beta version of the software .
And Samsung just implemented Android 10's gesture navigation, which is available since September.
