No you can't use any other roms for porting to Lenovo a7000-a. Only lenovo a7000 custom roms are supported by the device, if you try experimenting by porting different roms you get errors and mostly your device will be dead (both software and hardware) in worst case scenario.

It's a big process bro, and very complicated process includes coding and embedded content which needs alot of user experience and skills. A minute mistake can leads to serious damage of device software. You can directly port or flash many custom roms available for lenovo a7000-a, but for changing the custom files in base rom is a very kinky process. You need to undergo some courses of coding and developer experience to do that. That's how every developer creates and develops a custom rom. :good:

It's easy. If you want to port from same soc, k3 is best. Almost all ported ROMs are from k3 note.
I hope you know which files to replace in base ROM.
If you don't know, then there is a guide on k3 note forum made by dev sandeep.sethi for porting. Since k3 and a7k have same chipset, you can read the section of same chipset porting instead of cross-porting(this is for different soc).

Bro you got your facts super-duper messed up. No developer needs to know coding for porting a ROM. The process is very simple. There is no such thing that you say. Also, he was asking to port a ROM, and you're saying to port a ROM from a7k... You need to correct your terms ftw.
Porting is actually only replacing files. It involves no coding.
//My request to users, please don't post anything on XDA that you haven't experienced or don't completely know. Little knowledge is more dangerous than knowing nothing.

But it's risky process for new users bro. Experienced developers like you can do it. But new users or beginners can mess it up and end up with a bricked device

No it's not risky at all. Mtk devices can not be bricked by software.
I was once a beginner too. How experienced am I? Too little. Look at when I opened my first development thread... Swift AOSP. It's not very old.
If you want to do it, even you can do so without any harm... Especially from same chipset.

This os is best for Android phones
If you look at the sources they are not for hdpi devices therfore no development atleast for now as i see it. I also want to see something different from aosp ROMs.
Stock rom modified to xperia ui would be cool too.
For our device it looks aosp ROMs is what senior devs prefer.
Why any developer not work in miui ROM I know your answer but miui7 is good for Android phones
me too waiting for miui....some replied that i should bought xiomi phones rather than Android one..and some says that miui v7 cant be portable to our device cause of hdpi...but tgen why no devs are interested to port the miui v6???its already ported for our chipset just have to make it work for android one..... http://www.mtkroms.com/2015/03/442-miui-v6-for-mtk-6582.html
Mods please move this thread to appropriate section
If you like it so much, then why don't you compile it? Devs are tired of requests for MIUI. THEY DON'T WANT TO DO IT.
Hey guys, if anyone is interested in porting miui 6, then contact me on fb, as I don't have enough bandwidth to download the ROM, I can guide you all through the way, all I need is a guy (or even a girl ) who has some at least basic knowledge & is ready to waste some time with me :v (as porting can't always be successful)...

Everybody here is saying that wating for a custom rom for p8lite2017 is a waste of time because huawei doesn't release the sources, then why does honor 8 have so many custom roms for it ? It has EMUI 5 just like us, it's made by the same company in the same year, how did the devs manage to make roms for it ??
Honor 8 source code is released, for P8 Lite 2017 isn't.

Some developers (also I) take the data of the devices which they own. They do not need the official resources. Therefore, there is not custom rom also from devices his resources were published. I build my custom rom when android 8 is released.

I'd be glad if we can get even just a custom kernel..But if we do get a custom rom, then all the more better!
AOSP based rom <3 <3 <3
what about K rom in honor 6x dose it compatible with our device ?
K-rom

I already work some time on a EMUI 5 custom rom. Alike for Honor 6x. Only of the Kernel is not enough. We also need 100% Recovery. There is not that.

True. Our Recovery isn't that all stable and consistent. I am not really expecting too much from this phone since its a budget device, and I got most of the things I want and need to work: root, busybox, Viper4Android. The TWRP is a bonus, even if its in a semi-usable state.
It's great if we can have Custom ROMs, but even just a custom kernel will suffice for now.
OFFTOPIC: On another note, I am hoping that Xposed will somehow work for Android 7 onwards. Even without a Custom ROM, that will open a lot of doors for customization.
When source codes get released you can find them here: http://consumer.huawei.com/en/opensource/
When I search for PRA, which I think is your phone model, I can get sources. Seems like sources are available for your phone

You can have the Kernel with pleasure. Comes from the B110. Use on own risk.

I have been looking for great custom ROMs but I haven't found except pixel experience that's too unofficial for Mi A2....I don't understand that why talented developers are not considering this device...hope n wish I can see n install great ROMs from great developers community...wish n request developers to initiate it...
I guess because it's an Android One phone, most users (myself included) already got what they wanted.
Previous years Mi A1 got many roms/kernels. But it took some months because of the A/B partition. This years Mi A2 should get everything like official TWRP recovery, official supported custom roms, kernels etc. Just we have to wait. That's it. Developers are trying.

I would love to develop ROMs like I did with my previous phones, but since the Mi A2 community keeps "demanding" developers to step up and develop them free roms, I'm not going to. I'll probably develop one for myself and if someone wants it, I'll charge for it.
Cheers.
Instead of begging dev to make rom for this device, why not you visit project treble thread
https://forum.xda-developers.com/project-treble .. since a2 has project treble support so why not you try something from there... plus, please give devs some donation for their hard work, appreciate their efforts... and try to not begging them to do something..
Are you a developer.....well idk....tell me in which language requesting is begging....you don't need to develop any ROMs.i will not use even you put it for free...you are mannerless...learn some basics ...arrogance leads to destruction....peace...
Any ways thanks for the link...
Hello everyone,
I'm completely new in developing, porting or building of Linux kernel and Android OS.
However I have a good experience with flashing, testing, rooting with many phones.
I think can help for testing of custom rom for our advanced phone . I very like a stock android fill and I'll happy to test features of stock android of this phone.

There's actually no developpement for Galaxy Tab S8 serie. The hardware is pretty new and Samsung doesn't help users to dives into his hardware...
If you want to try roms, you can still install TWRP and try GSI.
About Linux, except using Termux, you can't do anything since the Kernel is locked and there's no way (yet) to enable KVM on snapdragon devices...

GSI (Generic System Image) is a kind of rom that (should) work on any Treble enabled device (aka almost any device that come with Android 11 and up).
However, on Samsung devices, most of hardware relies on proprietary drivers (like camera or spen...), so you should'nt expect them to work good as using Samsung firmware
There is not custom roms almost to none Samsung device any more. Samsung is trying to become Apple. Locking every device with many ways. Only root there is, and this more difficult every year. Unfortunately Samsung is still creating the best hardware , and good software, so there isn't very easy to go to another company for the most users..
