Settings-> More->Vpn "+" missing - BLU R1 HD Questions & Answers

i reinstalled the good old reliable R1HDzenui.zip rom which has always worked well for me on the Blu R1 HD. i downloaded it from a link provided by "vampirefohttps://forum.xda-developers.com/r1-hd/development/custom-rom-r1hd-zen-ui-t3473593" on this forum. It generally works fine but I can't add a vpn. I am looking for a way of adding the built in vpn that comes with android marshmallow. I would like to use it with Linphone to make sip calls though an asterisk pbx to save my cell minutes. It seems that I was able to do this previously with this rom. Maybe it needs to reenabled. Reinstalled?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

I just looked at vpn setting on v8.7 and when I click the + to add a connection I got a pop up message telling me that I need to set screen lock before I can add a vpn connection, so maybe you can try to set your lock screen first then try add vpn.

Nope. Thanks for the suggestion. I don't get the plus even after I do that.
When I press the 3 dots on the upper right., I get the option to select Always-on-VPN and a dialog box comes up that says Select VPN profile and .... with a radio button checked off with None as the option.

Thanks for your response. I bought a new R1HD and i was unable to unlock the bootloader so I returned it. Is it possible to hack the ones they are selling now? I used the SP....tool with the scatter text file. I am asking since you have done a lot of work with this phone.

The spflash tool method worked up to v6.5
Then needed to use dirty-cow method from 6.6 - 7.4.2
After that have not been able to do anything with v8.1 and above

Is is possible to add the vpn after the fact as a patch to the kernel or as a system application when the phone is rooted like mine is? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

upgrade to newer rom

From what I read in your post, you have created an 8.x (oreo)rom for this phone and installing that would solve the problem. The phone runs so well with 6.0 marshmallow, I'm hesitant to go through all the trouble of wiping it to upgrade it. It there a way of upgrading without doing a fresh install?

There you go. That's the reason. there have been plenty of threads about the fact that you cant change your VZ account with a sim in a non recognized VZ device.

Beats me, perhaps you need to Call VZ on this, you may try the following on the N6, but if not seen as a VZ device it may not work:
http://www.droid-life.com/2015/03/1...e-and-data-now-works-on-nexus-6-with-verizon/
you should also be on 5.1 first before trying, as it isn't supported on the N6 without it, which could also generate the message.
just chatted and they will be sending me a new sim(current one was cut from gnex phone)
i shouldnt have any issues activating the sim right?

[Q] Screen busted, need to recover baby pictures

Someone please help. Phone screen is busted and i need to recover pictures from the phone. It wasn't backed up and adb is not enable, neither is bootlader. Am i screwed?
Are you using twrp? Does adb work for you in twrp? If so you can just use adb pull /location/of/DCIM and pull them.
If your phone isn't secure it should show up on PC, at least I think so. Can you tell if its powering on?
Its powering on. No custom recover. Swipe pattern for lock
If its powering on you should be able to plug it into your computer and pull the pics from the dcim folder. Optionally, if it turns on, fastboot install twrp from bootloader, then use adb to pull the dcim folder as suggested by R4INS. If it turns on you're definitely NOT screwed
So i can use fastboot even though i didnt enable usb debugging? And doesn't the computer not lwt you connect unless u add it as a trusted device on the phone. I would have to enter the swipe pattern, which i cannot currently do
U not screwed friend.
First - did u setup back up of picture to google server? If yes , u can access them from website.
Second - you can buy OTG cable and connect your PC mouse and you will have access to your phone

I cannot see anything on the phone. The digitizer is busted as well.. its COMPLETELY black lol. Secondly, i didn't have goggle backup my photos, (because it was adding my pictures to my Google+ and wouldn't let me change it to private) so i turned off sync fir my pictures.

Fyi, all auto backup photos to g+ are always private until you otherwise choose to share them
odd should have been private by default. but thats in the past now. outside of getting a replacement screen or trying the mouse solution and trying some guess work on doing the swipe pattern, not sure what else that can be done. Sorry to hear about your situation

Screen replacements are 250 and have to ordered. Sprint won't even torch the phone. The misses is poised because we just had a newborn and ask the photos were in the phone . Called phone drs and they said it will be about a week for a screen because no one keeps it in stock. Lol damn... screwed.
Is there a program that i can use that will cast the phones screen over to the computer that way i can controll it from there? If i find a app on the market place, i can just sign in on line to my account and send the download to the phone from the play store. Any ideas?

Not wanting to ask stupid questions, but when I've installed new ROMs the first thing I need to do is put in my router key to connect to the router. You have done that?
What key? I flashed hundreds of time and I dont had any problems. I just clicked on wifi ssid than type password and thats it. Trying now with lollipop factory image.
Same with Lollipop factory image
The key I meant was the password for your router when you start the first startup process after flashing. Having the router recognised doesn't mean that you're connected to it - no password, no access. If that's what you've already done, then I have no idea - sorry...
Little update. On lollipop let me to skip account login. Chrome works perfect with wifi, but I cant add my account. I wrote my email address and its just loading and dont let me type password. Also dont let me create another account stuck on loading.

try mobile data. if you can log in using mobile data then there might be some problem with your wifi(internet provider) and wifi router.
Yes with mobile data everything ok. I dont understand why I cant login to my google account using WiFi. Everything else like Chrome works with WiFi. I dont change anything to my router. Maybe my provider change something, but I think I will not have internet at all. Oh and I found another issue I cant go to docs.google.com using WiFi (with mobile data works). As example to Chroma's changelog.
Sorry for so much screenshots, but maybe it will help to fix that problem. So I tried Google translator app over wifi. As you see it's not working and yes I have offline language package, but it's not working somehow, works only on mobile data. Same issue with Google documents app. I thought maybe only Googles apps not working, but nope apps like google+ or inbox works perfect.
"ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED" typically is a DNS issue.
Have you powered off/on your router and/or providers modem to see it that helps at all? Have you tested another device/computer to your wireless to see if it can connect and get out to the Internet?

Programming Tasker from your Laptop or PC

Even on the fairly generous display of my Nexus 6, working in Tasker can be a bit tedious, especially over protracted periods of time. I like a full sized keyboard and a mouse. I like being able to develop ideas on my laptop with multiple monitors; work in multiple full featured editors; move things around to suit my whims; cut and paste text and files as the need arises.
I have an HP Elitebook running Win10. The N6 is not rooted. Currently, the display of my N6 is mirrored to a window on my laptop (which I can resize[!]). The laptop keyboard and mouse now work with my N6. From my PC I can do anything on my N6 from change settings, to cut 'n paste, to move files and to program and test Tasker in its native environment. Want to know how? It's easy. I had this set up in about 3 minutes.
This is all thanks to a Chrome extension call Vysor (by ClockworkMod).

There are a few drawbacks, most notably with a little display latency. But depending what hardware you are using, how many things you have running at once and how you've configured, your mileage will probably vary. Me? I'm happy.
Sorry about the link. I'm new to the forum. Need a few more posts before URLs are enabled. But I just thought I would add that I am working on an organization chart and a flow-control flowchart for organizing more complex Tasker projects. I need this stuff or I get lost and run down rabbit trails.
I'm a pretty visually oriented kind of guy. That is one reason that Vysor has proven to be valuable to me. I can have my word processor with the charts and development notes open, XML displayed in Notepad++, two File Explorer windows for easily transferring files, cut 'n paste available so I can grab from my lists of Profile, Tasks and Variable names and Audacity open for making quick, down and dirty notification MP3s (like voicing over a Star Trek 'incoming message' sound effect with, "Captain, you have a voice message".) OK, I'm a little geeky.

I just checked the article again. No problem. Let's try this another way. Have you looked for the Chrome extension Vysor? The article "By Jack Wallen | August 28, 2015, 4:11 AM PST" says in part:
From the Chrome browser, go to the Vysor page, click ADD TO CHROME, and then click Add (when prompted). Now, if you click the Apps button (upper left corner of the Chrome window, under the bookmark toolbar), you should see the Vysor app ready to launch.
Prepping your device
In order for this to work, you must enable USB debugging on your Android device. This is simple. First, you must enable Developer options. Here's how:
Open Settings
Locate and tap About Phone
Locate Build number
Tap Build number seven times
Tap the back button
Locate and tap the newly added Developer options
To enable USB debugging, do the following:
Open Settings
Locate and Tap Developer options
Tap to enable USB debugging
Plug your device, via USB, into the computer running Vysor. Once connected, click on the Chrome Apps button, and then click on the Vysor launcher. A new window will appear with a Find Devices button. Click that button, and your device should instantly appear
Highlight your device, and then click the Select button. On your device, you'll be prompted to accept the computers RSA fingerprint. Click OK on that window, and the Vysor mirror window should appear displaying the screen from your Android device.
Hope this helps...
Teamviewer works too to do the same job
Hi philippe734 and thanks. TeamViewer is a great piece of software. But it is a little overkill for this purpose. It is also cloud based and therefore presents certain security concerns. I didn't know if you were aware, but InfoSecurity, the online magazine, has linked TeamViewer with the ransomware, Surprise! http://www.infosecurity-magazine.com/news/surprise-ransomware-spreading-via/
I'm no security expert, but I'm using Vysor over a USB link from within Chrome. My home network has no WiFi router and my Cloud account is pretty much a one-way proposition. I try to keep everything local except those things I upload to share or conversely, to put out of reach of anyone that might take possession of my phone (such as dashcam videos and other types of recordings).

I think I have found a tool to flash bricked Google Home devices.

I have founded this on a dumpster a couple of months ago, I made a post on Reddit and somebody suggested that I should post it here. This is a demo device (The ones that you can found at a BestBuy, for example)
This device has a couple of interesting things:
It's an Android tablet, you can actually install normal apps on it, Fun Fact: you can't install the google play services (Play Store and all that stuff), that crash the "tablet" immediately. The "tablet" has a pre-installed app that runs the demos.
The thing on the right is an actual, 100% "working" google home mini, but it looks like it has a demo firmware, so the USB cable actually connects to the tablet, and that's how the device answers to the woman in the video while playing the demo.
But there is MORE!
This thing can actually flash a firmware to the google home mini!
This was taken from the official manual that you can find online (search for outform modular demo):
Step 4. Insert the USB flash drive into the connector. Do not press any buttons on the device. After 4-5 minutes the LEDs on the device turn green or red. Green indicates that the procedure has been completed successfully and red indicates the operation has failed. If the operation has failed, remove the USB and try again.

I was wondering if we can use this to recover dead Google Homes, I will just need the firmware file to try it.
If somebody is interested in the APK or wants more information about this device, let me know!
I have made a little video on YouTube booting the device, but since my account is new it won't let me post it, so here is the video ID: watch?v=_ZPx8uIjvgk
TL;DR
Founded a device that possibly can flash firmware to Google Home devices, need help finding a firmware file to try.

Hi! Yes, this is like an Android tablet, I have done a little more research and it looks like the Tablet doesn't have anything to do with flashing the device, It looks like the the flashing is managed on a different PCB, under the Google Home Mini base, I will upload APK when I get home if you want to see what can you discover.
Edit: Can't post links, I will send you a PM
Is this a first or second-generation Google home mini? I just got a 2nd gen to try and hack on it and was wondering if this would be useful information
Also, how is the home connected to the pad? Mine doesn't seem to have any USB ports or anything.
Hello, im am interested in: This thing can actually flash a firmware to the google home mini! Any chance it might work on an insignia google assistant speaker? Either way would you provide me with a link to get the software please?
How can I get my Hands on the software to Flash a google home mini. Purchased as a birthday gift according to googles online support team its bricked (probly did a firmware update then it either failed/lost network/lost power) which bricked the device. Google told me they do not have any stores in South Africa and I should return it to the reseller in SA. Contacted the reseller and they refusing to now replace it saying google should fix it. All I want is a working device so if I Could reflash it myself would be super helpful as I am stuck with a non working google home mini!
Please if anyone has the above mentioned software I would really appriciate it
