Hi,
I got a Nook Color for Christmas and instantly fell in love with it once I realize it was running Android and could be rooted.
The problem is that it had a few dead pixels, so I returned in and got another one. This one had 1 stuck pixel and 1 dead pixel. So I returned it again. This latest one still has 1 dead pixel. I've returned that one as well. I bought the last 2 NCs from a different store than the first.
I'm thinking I might just buy TWO of them at this point, and hopefully one of them will be pixel-perfect, then I can just return the other one.
Kinda frustrating, is anybody else having problems like this? Are there any Nook Colors out there without any dead pixels?
u have to be very unlucky lol
3 bad nooks in row lol
just trolling... i have no problems with mine
The one I opened Christmas morning had one dead pixel. I returned it and got one that didn't have any problems.
Mine has a dead pixel, right in the middle of the screen. I'm going to exchange it when I manage to dig myself out of the snow. Did you have any problems returning/exchanging? My wife got mine from BN.com, and I'm hoping I can exchange locally...
I have one stuck pixel, but doesn't really bother me.

Mine was bought at a store but I had no problem exchanging. The manager even knew what a dead pixel was to my surprise. She didn't even take more than two seconds looking at the screen before exchanging it.
I'd call a store and see if they'll do that for you.

Mine was purchased locally from B&N and returned at the same store without a problem. The second/third NCs were from Walmart, and I also didn't have any problems returning those.
Been there, done that
I am on my 3rd nookColor now.
First had 6 stuck pixels and the second had a bad touch screen.
It suffered lots of random presses that prevented me from completing the setup process.
Third one seems ok, but I must say I am not impressed with the build quality so far.
I bought mine from the local BN and did not have a problem returning the first one.
However they were not keen on the second exchange, kept telling me I needed to type slow on the screen and it happened to them at first too.
So I said if they could complete the sign in process I would keep it. They could not make it work either and had to take it back, but still claimed I was not typing correctly.
YMMV however.

Sam thing happened to me. Had to return it, but the next one is perfect.
No problems here, but I hear it can be hit or miss when it comes to dead pixels. Sounds like you were pretty unlucky OP, don't be discouraged until you get a good unit.
Well. I've noticed a flicker on about 15-45ish percent. I'm not sire if the other one had the fluked but im just going to keep this one and either use low brightness ir 50%.

Whew, well!
So, today I bought another NC from Walmart. Had some dead pixels, but off to the side so not as bad. Kept that one for the moment and bought ANOTHER one from B&N, that one had dead pixels near the center of the screen, so I returned it promptly.
I thought about then keeping the one with the dead pixels near the edge (from Walmart), but I knew that Walmart had ONE Nook Color left on the shelf so I went back and picked that one up. Examined it in the car and .. PERFECT!
Returned the one I bought earlier and I'm a happy camper.
So, sixth time was the charm! Took forever but I'm in a good mood today now.

Geez. It took 6? That's pretty poor quality control on B&N's part.
The 1st one I bought had a speaker problem and a dead pixel, the 2nd had dead pixels, the 3rd had a stuck pixel, the 4th is solid and flawless. Kind of sucked to have to return something so many times, but BN was really cool about it.
My first had a speaker problem, too. I'm on my second and hopefully last.
A friend is helping me get one from US, first & second had dead pixels & cracks on screen! Interesting point is that they don't change it at local shops because it was bought online, new ones have to come from B&N HQ which is taking ages now! Quality control is really awful!
Mine got a piece of dust under the screen. Took it back and the new one had two stuck pixels right in the middle of the screen. Took it back and opened the new one in the store with the sales person right there. Stuck pixel right in the middle of the screen. I ended up getting the very first one with the dust back...just didn't feel like messing with it anymore. The dust is clear over on the right side of the screen...with luck it may work it's way out.
I have to agree...from all the reports of stuck/dead pixels it seems like QC has been shoddy. Might have to consider the extended warranty on this thing.
OK so there's nothing we can do about it? B&N should calls this batch of faulty devices & replace them all, it's not acceptable for a E-Reader to have broken displays, the main role of this thing is to show material right!

I can't believe how AWFUL their QA is on a $250 device! I broke down and bought one yesterday morning.
It has no dead pixels, but I'm having a b!tch of time inserting that stupid mini-USB cable, which presumably should insert/remove fairly easily/smoothly. Managed it twice yesterday, but gave up this morning, so this one's going back as soon as B&N opens. (I had this vain hope that it would work it's way smooth, but no go...)
I'll give them one second chance, but if there's ANY problem with #2 it's going back, and I'm returning with cash.
My first had dust and a dead pixel.
Second has a stuck pixel on the bottom right.
Bought at Best Buy who now has included tablets on the 14 day return policy.
I rarely see the pixel, but when watching videos etc, the screen usually has a black frame around it and it glows bright white which is a bit distracting.
These things are out of stock at most of the stores near me.
I don't know if I should try to return it again, risking one thats worse, or just keep it, or get a full refund and buy later..
I won't buy again from Best Buy since they were not happy exchanging the first one.
Uggg...
Hi guys,
So technically I'm on my third HTC One, the first bulged at the USB port with a scuff, and the second was opened in store and had similar bulging so I refused it.
The third seemed good, and so I took it. I went home, set it all up, checked for bad pixels and it was grand. So i set it up, installed all my stuff, unlocked the bootloader and rooted etc.
So, dial forward a week, and I notice a brighter spot on a white background, right on the edge of the screen, on the left. I'd guess its a few pixels, as it is kinda triangular, and bigger than just one I believe. Using a pixel tester tool, they only show up on green (looks more white) and white (looks brighter), not on black, red or blue. So, I'm guessing its a group of sub-pixels.
It's one of those things - it doesn't bother me that much except I know its there, so I get drawn to it, particularly on white browser screens. I've briefly tried a pixel fixer app but it didn't fix it. So, I need some advice really, I love the phone now that I have (had) one that was perfect, but this has disappointed me. I'd hate to get back into a cycle of more returns for more issues like overhang, camera etc, if they even have any in stock. So, has anyone any advice on a possible fix, as that would be the best solution?
If not, given I've unlocked the bootloader and rooted and stuff, am I likely to encounter some resistance trying to exchange this? I got it from Three, and I intend to call round to them shortly to talk about it, but wanted some advice first.
Thanks for any help,
Matt
If it isn't too annoying I say live with it. You'll get used to it eventually.
If you replace it again there's a good chance you'll get one with a worse problem.
Replaced
In the end, I went with the replacement - sat in the store and checked off a list of the common faults I've seen haha, from aluminium quality to video hissing!
Think I've finally got a great one; it had a different batch number, HT32WW, as compared to HT338W for both the previous two. Very pleased! I can hopefully now relax - bar any more sudden dead pixels!
I'll add that Three were really great about it, very apologetic, I dunno why they have a reputation for poor customer service, maybe their call centres? Anyway, yeah, kudos to them!
Anybody saying live with it is a total idiot. Its like buying a car and saying it has a crack on the window but live with it. If its broken, change it! Its free and you deserve a problem free device for the price.
Yeah, and given that attitude I had Amazon send me three devices in a row, and none of them is free of dead pixels (no gaps etc. nonetheless). If you're going for pure you might have to stay strong to finally receive the one you've been waiting for .
Last night my phone got a text and when I took it out my pocket the screen would not turn on. It was just blank. The buttons next to the home button still light up and the LED light still flashes. Vibrate still works etc. I took the battery out and out it back in... nope the screen is buggered. It has no water damage and it hasn't been dropped etc.
Just thought I would post this in case anyone has any similar problems.
I'm so angry If I'm being honest... my phone store wouldn't even send it away for me... they asked me to phone customer services and pack it and send it away myself. I have exams etc so its something I refused to do. Thankfully another store helped me out but I have never been so angry at a combination of companies. I have already spend £100 up front for the phone. Now I have no phone and apparently there is none in stock so I'll have to wait until they are ready. Not even given a replacement.

I had a similar issue with my first S4. It randomly rebooted numerous times and I had it for a little under a day. I took it back the next day and swapped out my white S4 with a black one and all has been well thus far. My buddy also had an issue with his screen as well. He went to put a case on it and the screen flickered and died. He too had to get a replacement. Your situation is a little more drastic but it seems we aren't the only ones with screen issues.

It is ridiculous that the screens are faulty in the first place but if they could just give me a new one like yours I would have been as happy as larry. Did you lose all the apps etc you had downloaded? I bought ice age and everything =/
apparently my phone company only replaces new items within 7 days. If my screen broke tonight instead of last night I would not have been given a replacement and would have got a "re-furbished" one. ARRRHHHH I would have torn the place down if they had said that to me!
I've had got mine 4/29 and have had no issue except for that lag when to much crap is open in the background.

I had my phone for about 2 days and I noticed that the screen would flicker. Since it was my first Amoled I just figured it was something I would have to get used too. Well the flicker started to get worse and even made it difficult to read anything on the phone. So I took it into sprint and told them I wanted a new one, not some returned or beat up phone.
There was a problem with the screen after all and they did give me a new in box phone. Haven't had an issue since. With any new product it just seems you might get lucky.
The bottom of my screen is more yellow than the top so I'm having Moto RMA it. I was just wondering if anyone else had a similar issue. If I wasn't so freak'n picky I'd probably ignore it, but I use landscape a lot and I see it most on the keyboard when in landscape.
Did you ever get your replacement? I have uneven color issues as well, though I'm not sure if its worth the trouble of trying to exchange it.

Curious as well. I'm thinking of re-purchasing now because I think some of the RMA replacement stock was bad batches (at least that's my hope) and the newer ones will have the screen issues sorted.
GOOD LUCK!!! My screen died (just went blank) over a week ago and I still do not have a new device. Moto's RMA and customer service has been the worst ever! I have been told "its shipping tomorrow" for a week now and still no device. The last rep I spoke with said they just do not have replacement devices to ship. I would advise you to keep the yellow screen until Moto has enough stock to ship devices.

I don't currently have one, as I returned the 3rd one I had (1st - bad vibration motor, 2nd/3rd bad uneven color tinting). So I'd have to order anew :/ Guess I should just wait until next year when they've got more stock and fix the screen issues.

It's crazy. This is the first of about 20 android devices I have had that I have not done anything to. I had not even unlocked the bootloader yet and the screen craps out. I understand that stuff like this happens but the whole customer service part has been just awful. I was offered a refund but Moto said that would take 4 weeks??? How do you launch a device and not hold back some stock for warranty issues is beyond me? Thankfully I have a M8 GPE to hold me over.

I think google definitely held back stock for RMAs, as I had no issues getting a 1st and 2nd RMA (for a total of 2 devices after my initial purchase). The problem is they were all manufactured on 10/21 or earlier and had issues so while they had stock to replace them, but were replacing with questionable quality I guess?
I just spoke with customer service last night for RMA. My screen basically looks like a gradient from top left to bottom right. It goes from yellow into pinkish, they basically stated that the devices they are sending out are not technically new or refurbished (at this point). I'm assuming customer returns or defects with packaging. They basically are sending me one, placing a $500 hold and then releasing the hold once they receive my defective unit.

Curious to see how you make out with this. I am still waiting for my RMA'd device since 12/8. Spoke with someone at Moto this morning and they are shipping it today. I have heard that before and I will believe it when I see it. Still no shipping email as of 3:20 eastern time..... Their customer service has been horrible. Hope you have better luck. Keep us posted.
I decided to give it another shot today and ordered a new 32GB CW, hoping I was just unlucky with the 2/3 MB I had that had the pink vs. yellow non-uniform tinting. I know there's no data that indicates the color has anything to do with it, but I'm a superstitious type and hope ordering the white winds up with me getting a good screen haha

GPS. I already refunded my MB purchase and that and the two (attempted) RMAs show as cancelled on Google Wallet.
FYI, the replacements I got had "earlyish" manufacturing dates, so if the bad screens are a function of the date manufactured, RMA'ing now for this may not be a good idea (at least in my experience for the MB one, no idea about CW).

I guess that's one advantage to GPS. My 1st and 2nd RMA were shipped immediately, in one case the same day and I had the replacement the next day.
Well they sent me an ATT phone instead of t-mobile.. BUT the att doesnt have the issue. I'm hoping the correct device I get tomorrow will also be good.
Well my card was charged for $557 so I assume that they will be prompt in sending one out. It's not that big of a deal if it doesn't come in a hurry as long as one gets here without defects. I don't have to send in the defective one until my replacement gets here anyway.
I also have the uneven tint issue. I have been debating about a replacement. Not sure what to do.

Well it depends on how much it bothers you. After spending $700 on a phone I do plan on getting a phone with a non defective screen. It's getting really annoying watching the colors go from warm to cool as I read from left to right.

Agreed. I plan on keeping my phone for 2-3 years, so I need to make sure I'm completely happy with it. I just called Google to ask about having mine replaced. They said they're sending out a brand new unit, so we'll see how that one looks. I'll report back when I have it in hand.
My replacement came today. Its looks great. While my last phone had a little pink when at lowest brightness. This one has NONE.
My watch looks to have developed a dead pixel between the 11 and 12 o'clock position (in attached photo, you can see it as a darker spot on the white face).
Try this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.lab102.watchstuckpixels&hl=en_GB
That might be the exact same pixel which died on mine a few days ago...
Interesting - yours looks slightly further from bezel but very close.
I wonder what the return policy is for dead pixels?
hello,
It can not be coincidence. I had a defect in the same place !!
Watch I have sent a complaint. I looked through the microscope and defect pixel but not one circle over about 4x4 pixels.
I'll let you claim ...
Sorry for bad English - Google Translate
I have a couple dead pixels right at the 11:00 mark too. But closer to the edge.
Stuck pixel fixer app does not fix it
Do you guys think there's a pressure point under the OLED that's squeezing and making that particular corner more vulnerable? If so, opening up the watch and relieving the pressure on that corner could fix it.
I had a, not dead pixel, but a stuck pixel that was most visible on green backgrounds, i got the watch replaced without any fuzz from reseller (i live in Sweden)
Edit: mine was not in the same location as yours are, it was from left to right dead center and from top to bottom slightly below center of screen

Thanks guys - mine was bought from Amazon and they are usually pretty good at replacing stuff. I'll drop them a line as soon as I get a chance.
It's getting worse on my watch. There are about 10 dead pixels by now and a few in a big spot. Amazon told me to call LG first, which is what I am going to do now...

Hmmm - that's worrying. At the end of the day, if Amazon sold it to you, it is their responsibility and (assuming that you bought it in the UK), if it fails in the first 12 months, the onus is upon hte vendor (Amazon) to prove that it wasn't faulty at the time of sale.
In practical terms, I would call LG and if (when?) you get nowhere, phone Amazon back and tell them that LG indicated that it was faulty and should be returned.
Thanks for your answer. I called LG and they were very polite about the issue. They will replace it without charge. I hope that the next one will not develop the same issue after a few months.
OLED-Burn In is not that much of an issue if your display dies after a few months anyway :good:

I'm on my third watch now because of dead pixel problems. One was right smack dab in the middle of the screen, the other was in the 11 o clock position, like most of you.
Luckily, my third watch seems to be just fine, aside from an absurdly thick band that I'm going to replace anyway.
Same to me. Suddenly today i see a couple of dead pixels near 11.

Odd that they all seem to happen at the 11 O'clock position
I had a dead pixel at 11 o'clock also.
I bought LG Watch R 2 months ago, and a dead pixel shows at 11 o'clock a week ago. It's interesting that we all have the single dead pixel at the same position, this must be a systemic problem of this LG Watch R. I will call LG tomorrow.
How can I upload the picture I took for my LG Watch R?
Dead or stuck píxel on lg g watch r oled?
Today this dot appeared on the lg g watch r screen between the 11 and 12 o'clock. Is it a dead pixel or just a stuck pixel? The colour looks red instead of black which I guess means stuck pixel doesn't it? Today I used a watch face that it's only red and that contributes to the idea that it's just stuck instead of dead. I've run a stuck pixel fixer Wear app for 2 minutes and its still there. Any opinions and a fix guide?

MIne looks exactly like yours and in the same location. I just called LG Customer Service and they sent me a packing label to send in for repair. I should have it back in 2 weeks. I'll keep you guys posted on what comes of this.
Got my LGGWR about 3 days ago (1 week after it was sent) and they gave me a brand new one! The one I had sent in had a big dead pixel around the 11 o'clock location and I sent it in without any bands, as I have purchased one from Amazon and didn't want to "lose it". They sent me a brand new unit with the original band even. GO LG!
I have a feeling this one will yield similar dead pixels issues as the original, but I can't really complain at this point.
many dead pixels, bought march 2015
