My mate 9 pro is rooted. 128gb internal and 6gb ram Chinese AL00. Until I rebranded to c636:laugh:
Must have root explorer but the boot animation zip is found in Product/etc/media. For some reason I don't need to change permissions on my device but my new boot animation works well. My laptop is down so I can't upload my fav animation zips but you can download pretty much any boot animation from Rom toolbox which is on playstore.
Download file, eg honeycomb.zip and rename it to boot animation.zip and place it in the above mentioned directory. move the original to otg or sd card just in case and try and change permissions anyway but my devices original boot animation doesn't have any permissions at all and yet it works.
If this works for you and your able to customise your phone a little more, hit the thanks button. If not.......... Whoops!

also rename the bootanimation to what yours is named either ATT_bootanimation.zip or bootanimation.zip
Here is how I did it.
1. Download the .zip to your desktop and rename this file to the file that your device uses. (I use ATT, so I navigated to system, customize, resource, and that's where I saw my boot animation and it was, ATT_bootanimation.zip
2. Mount the disk so you can open the external sd drive on your computer
3. Moved the .zip file from the desktop to the external sd drive
4. I use Rom Toolbox, but use a root explorer and copy the bootanimation zip file from your external sd card, to your devices bootanimation file, It will ask if you want to overwrite or keep both files, but you MUST overwrite. Reboot phone and it should work. If that doesn't then try and install it from your recovery and you might have to delete the cache, but try that.
I do recommend backing up the phone and the current rom though...Just incase
Is there a specific place to go where i can download different boot animations for the vivid as well as preview them before downloading?
There are boot animation threads...
Trial and error as far as what works...
Our screen is 960x540
Anything smaller COULD work

You can always try this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1678540&highlight=sense
You have to download them first but it lets you see what it will look like.
Don't overwrite your ATT_bootanimation.zip file just rename it ATT_bootanimation.bak (or just bootanimation.bak if your original bootanimation file is named just bootanimation). This way if you can't get it to work then you can delete the file that dosen't work and go back to your original file by putting the .zip back.
Try install boot animation factory
HTC VIVID 4.0.4 SENSE 4.1
I'd love to try Annimation Factory but it requires Win SP3. I only have/use the laptop my company gives me and they control what SP are installed with an iron fist and we are only on SP1. I really need to build a new box. I"m still working on doing it the old fashion way as discribed in the OP's document.
EDIT - FYI - I installed Annimation Factory and it works just fine on SP1. One thing that I have noticed every time I open it it prompts me there is a new version even when turning off the check for updates in settings. When I try to download the new version it gives a downloader error. I don't think this is related to SP1. The AF version I have works good though. I'll go and get the new version manually.

i didnt try yet, but go to root folder in android with any root explorer (7zip for example) system-media-bootanimation.zip.
just copy to pc, edit the single pictures and put the single gif pics in there, maybe Photoshop?. just save the single pics. (didn't try it yet, or have a look here http://www.hongkiat.com/blog/change-android-boot-animation/)
I know how to make a boot animation. But I can't replace new boot animation with the old one. I have root and file explorer with root access but I still can't replace or remove anything from "/" folder.
Whatever. Tell me how to send any theme to MIUI Theme Market to make it possible to download by anyone.
Hello buddies,
Today I wanna share a little thing to you.. I always want to change the boot animation of my phone. when I bought Huawei P8 lite I had tried to do so. But I failed because like other previous version of Android (ICS,JB,KK) I didn't find the /media folder in root/system.. That's way flashble zip files of boot animation don't work if you flash them via custom recovery
I searched in google for a solution. I didn't find nothing new there. I also tried some apps like Bootanimation.apk. But the result was same. :crying: :crying:
Finally I solved this problem with my own effort and successfully changed the boot animation..
To change boot animation first of all you must root your device.. if you have a rooted device then download Root Explorer/ Es File Explorer or Something like these.
1. Launch the application which you installed and go to /root folder of your device.
2. Find /cust folder and Click on it.
3. Here you will see some folders. Just click on preinstalled folder.
4. Then go to /public/media folder and you will get a zip named bootanimation.zip. Just delete it or rename it like bootanimation.zip.bak.
5. Now just put your boot animation file in that folder and Reboot your device.
THAT'S ALL
CAUTIONS:
1. Download the boot animation file according to your disply resolution [P8 Lite (ALE-L21) Resolution is 720x1280 ]. Boot animation of other resolution won't work at all.
2. If you download a flashable zip file then extract it and use the bootanimation.zip file which you get inside it.

So I FOUND a program to do all that for you but it was in Spanish, so I translated it and uploaded it here
It doesnot work in my p8 lite ALE-L02 Any solution for installing custom boot animation in Huawei P8 lite ALE-L02
Thank you.:good:
This flashable zip file is intended for those who have maybe changed their boot animation, but still have the stock boot up sound playing in the background. It might also be for those who have flashed an animation that came with sound or those who just plain don't like the boot sound and don't want it to play anymore too. Yes it's true that the boot sound can be removed manually, but for those who don't know how or even those who do, why not just flash a quick file to remedy the problem?
This should work on most Android devices, everything from AOSP to Samsung, etc. You must be rooted though to be able to delete system files obviously. Other than that...
Here Are The Only Steps You Need To Follow For Removing Your Boot Animation Sound:
1) Just download the "bogartysoundremover.zip" file and copy it to the root of your sdcard.
2) Reboot into TWRP or whatever custom recovery you have.
(There are also apps in the Play Store like "Rashr" that flash zips if you don't have a custom recovery.)
3) Select "Install", navigate to the zip file and install it.
That's it. Easy! You should now be boot sound free.
NOTE: There is no risk in flashing this file btw. If it doesn't work on your device, then it just simply does nothing. Be sure to leave a comment with your make, model, android version, etc. though if that's the case and I'll add an exception for your device in the script that makes sure it does.
Also, if this file helped you then please be sure to hit the "THANKS" button.
Additionally, PLEASE DO NOT MIRROR THIS FILE! If you want to share it with people, then simply link them to this thread. Thank you!
Hi guys! I despise Verizon with a passion, and I have been on a mission to remove all things Verizon ever since I got an unskippable ad to install a bunch of Facebook games direct from Verizon. I got an undismissable notification prompting me to "review" the apps I have. It freaked me out and pissed me off.
I have since Frankenstein-ed and Rooted with the WTF method using the incredible guides made by @ChazzMatt. I am now running stock debloated @JohnFawkes VS996 Pie for working VoLTE/VoWiFi. I uninstalled every Verizon app (aside from carrier), and my last step was to replace the boot animation.
Now that you know the specifics of my device, I want to detail the process for replacing the boot animation on the VS996 V30.
THIS CAN CAUSE YOUR BOOT TO FAIL. PROCEED WITH CAUTION.
Requirements:
1) V30 running VS996 firmware (this method may work with VS998 or Carrier variants)
2) TWRP and Root
3) CURRENT SYSTEM PARTITION BACKUP
3) File Manager capable of root access and permission editing. I used Total Commander.
Process:
1) Obtain a boot animation!
You WILL need a boot animation in a specific format.
Link to a post with a huge collection of working boot animations: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/bootanimations-collection.3721978/#post-74901989 Credit to @mauam for this great work!!
I nearly bricked my phone by attempting to use a .gif converted into a .zip, as was suggested on another post. If your boot animation is not in the correct format, the phone will hang on the LG V30 screen.
Now that you have an animation you like, save it. Use the google drive link in the post.
2) Create system backup in TWRP
This is a critical step for recovering if you mess up. Do this every time you try something out of your comfort zone. I had to restore from a backup after deleting one too many System LG apps last night. This is what saved me from a brick before writing this guide.
3) Replace stock animation
We can now navigate to the location of the boot image. In your file manager, navigate to root/system/product/media.
Spoiler: More Details
This is where most boot animation replacer apps fall short! There are two locations where boot animations may be stored on the V30: system/media, and system/product/media. I believe that the LG animations are stored in system/media. Carrier boot animations are stored in system/product/media, at least on VS996/Verizon. If you want to check, try browsing through the existing bootanimation.zip file and opening one of the images. It should be a still from the carrier boot animation. If it is not, try the system/media folder. If you still can't find the carrier boot animation, I don't have enough experience to guide you further.
Having found the location of the boot animation, move your downloaded .zip into this folder. I made an additional copy as a replacement for the LG shutdown animation.
Rename the old boot animations, and simply add .bak on the end of the existing name. This preserves the animation if you mess up or want to revert.
Now, rename your new downloaded animations to the same as the old animations without .bak at the end.
Check that you have been successful by: press and hold > properties > permissions. They should match the old permissions, as well as the permissions detailed in @mauam post. (rw-r--r--)
4) Reboot
That's it! Goodbye Verizon.
If you get hung up on LG V30 screen, or phone will not boot:
Hold down the volume down and power buttons to force the phone to shut down. Ensure that the phone is off! Do the hardware button sequence to force the phone into recovery: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/hardware-button-boot-into-recovery-with-twrp.2534981/
This method worked for me! From here, restore the backup that you made BEFORE starting this guide!
