Recommended screen protector? - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

I just received an IQ Shield Matte screen protector and I'm really disappointed. It screws up the colors and whites have a rainbow effect to them. I took it off and now I'm looking for a new one. I'd like one that is:
1. Anti-glare
2. Anti-fingerprint
3. Clear and doesn't screw with this beautiful display.
Any recommendations?
Thanks in advance!

Thee one and only,,,,but more importantly expensive whitestone dome screen protector is probably the most I've heard of working...45 to 50 dollars tho

Any you can recommend about $20 and under?

First I tried the Spigen NeoFlex film screen protectors and they are garbage. Then I ordered a cheapo full cover tempered glass screen protector from eBay and it works great.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/3D-Full-Cov...ector-For-Samsung-Galaxy-Note-8-/332345555824
I've only been using it for about a week so I can't say how well it will keep dust out. Sensitivity is great, I don't notice it's on at all. It's not Anti-glare or Anti-fingerprint but it's only $8.

I'm using the i-blason tempered glass.
Under $20, it's still on, doesn't interfere with the screen.
It's still going to collect fingerprints and smudges due to the oils in our skin, but it wipes off easily.

thats becuz the neoflex is a rubber 3m film, not plasti-glass. i honestly like Spigen Neoflex screen protector. only downfall is using the pen on it leaves lines where youve drawn .. but cant be felt by your touch

Oh wow that sucks but for some reason YouTubers recommend this for s8 and note 8 idk man it looks promising but yeah that warning I've never seen before

There are plenty of discussions under the accessories section
But I'd say don't bother. I had one tempered glass protector on for an hour before it annoyed me too much and I removed it! Destroys the feel and use of the phone.

I have been buying the RhinoShield stuff for my stuff and its held up really well for me.
rhinoshield.io is where you'll find it.. (I havn't logged in long enough that I forgot my account info :/ )
edit: found my login info so now I can add the link:
https://rhinoshield.io/collections/samsung-galaxy-note-8
Plus, nobody else's stuff has any evidence that even suggests it actually works.
I havn't tried it for the note8 but I came by this thread while I was researching if anyone had so figure I'd mention it. It is expensive to get the whole kit (screen protector, bumper, and in this case rear glass protector), but I found it worth it..

I have a cheapo '2.5D' glass and its doing well. Touch response is worse mind.
There is a speaker hole at the top; this needs covering with a bit of tape or you wil get dust between the screen and the protector.

I purchased a relatively inexpensive TG protector. While it exhibits many of the drawbacks of TG protectors that aren't full-adhesive (i.e. all of them except the Whitestone Dome), it doesn't have quite the "rainbow effect" that I've seen with other protectors.
Its real downside, though, is its slickness ... I need a more paper-like surface to better control the s-pen. Just the tiniest bit of friction would help. I'm thinking that I may have to go to a film protector rather than TG to get that, though. Does anyone else have this issue with TG protectors?

Ever since the introduction of the edge curved screen (and I have owned the lot) I have never found a decent screen saver. It is a subject on every forum here on XDA and concerning all the Samsung edge models.
I have taken recommendations only to find them useless. Some use a glue, some have a dotted appearance after application some just suck period!
I used a partial screen saver once that just covered the centre of the screen but even that proved awful. Even used Samsungs own on the Note 7 and though that was not glass it also was horrible.
If any peer here does find a working screen protector PLEASE let us know.

Whitestone is the best.

I like the Spigen NeoFlex, it's been great so far for me. Went on easily, hasn't peeled off the corners/edge (and I use the Spigen Tough Armor case) and after the 12 hours to settle on the screen it looks great and writing on it with the s-pen feels good too. My personal opinion and the only one I've tried so far on my Note 8

Can the Whiitestone be removed once it's been glued to the Screen?

yes

I got the Bodyguardz glass protector sold to me at the AT&T store (lazy me). The guy installed it and it's ok. Glass protectors have an innate problem in that they sometimes don't transmit touches to the touchscreen itself. This one is no different but it does fit well. And it has a lifetime free replacement policy. I'll keep it to protect my screen.

[Q] Tempered glass screen protector?

I know that the phone is fairly new, but does anyone know of available tempered glass screen protectors for the Droid Turbo other than the Verizon brand? Is there an ETA for anything so far? I usually just order through Amazon, but haven't seen anything that was noteworthy yet.

There are some difficulties in making a glass screen protector for the turbo's screen because of the curved glass edges. The issue is that the screen protector naturally wants to pull away to a flat like state. Because of this, you see very few companies offer tempered glass protectors for devices with the curved glass edges, and most people report a poor experience with them, as the edges release from the glass, thus making it easy for the screen protector to get pulled off.
A few solutions that have been tried are the company making the protector a bit smaller than the screen, to avoid the curved edge, but then you don't get full coverage, and have a sharp / noticeable edge from the screen protector. The other solution is to make it thinner / more pliable, but that raises its own issues (cost, loss of protective qualities).
I know Zagg is working hard on developing a tempered glass screen protector that will work with the curved glass screens, thanks to the iPhone 6 plus having this type of screen, but it could be awhile before they release it, let alone it trickles down to other devices. Once they figure it out, though, it should spread to other protectors (given most off brand protectors are made by one of the Chinese manufacturers of Zagg, just rebranding them, and likely lowering quality control a bit).
Okay, so I found 2 new entries on Amazon for the glass protectors. One is the Casebase brand and the other is the Orzly brand. The Casebase comes with 2 protectors and seems to have a better fit for the front-facing camera. I would post the links, but I'm a newbie so I can't yet. Lmk what you guys think about them.
Verizon has the tempered glass in their stores, I bought mine when I received the phone 2-3 days into the launch!

Looks like these are the thicker 9h ones with rounded edges too and the prices are rather cheap. I going to give it a few weeks until the crappy verizon tempered glass starts lifting then give one of these a shot. Thanks for posting!

I'm going to go ahead and try out the Xtremeguard Spartan tempered glass screen protector. I wish there was a 90% off coupon, but I settled with the 80% since I've been waiting on a decent glass protector for awhile now. I'll let you guys know how it is once I put it on, but I don't know if my opinion would be all that valid since this will be my first glass protector.
The Zagg glass for the iPhone 6, 6 plus, and Note 4 with curved screens are already available and work perfectly. I would say the fact that it isn't currently available for the Turbo has more to do with it being a Verizon exclusive than anything else.

I just looked up the one for the six and six plus. What are they doing that's different from anyone else? Its just smaller then they call it case friendly lol I expected some new technology on the curve I guess. The only solution I've ever seen for tempered glass on a curved screen as they just make it smaller so it doesn't reach the curve.

It isn't really noticeable while just looking at the product, but the Zagg's now have a curvature equal to that of the curve of the screen. The first wave of Zagg Glass panels for the 6, 6+, and Note 4 were all defective. They peeled up at the edges and would never lay down completely flat (I work for Best Buy I install 30-50 of them a week.) The second round of shipments had ironed out whatever kinks were causing the imperfect fit.

I'm confused as to why you would want a screen protector on a Gorilla Glass screen with a free replacement warranty? Is there something I'm missing, or is there something else special about these tempered glass screen protectors?
As for me, I've never broken or even scratched a screen in the last 10 years. Guess I'm lucky.

I used to be one of those people too. I had never cracked a screen in my life because I always take care of my phone, but it all changed when it happened to my HTC One. Accidents happen and I'd rather lose a screen protector than have to use that free screen replacement. I think 10 bucks is a reasonable price to spend to protect a $600-700 phone, especially when i plan on keeping it for the foreseeable future. I still don't completely understand using bulky cases, but that's probably because I baby my phone.
Spartan glass received today - put it on and took it off - the curved glass edges do not stick and looks terrible - asking for refund

I have never carried a screen protector on my phone previously either as I felt the quality was utter **** on them and I won't look at one with bubbles and crap in it.
The tempered glass ones don't peel up or bubble (when they are not defective and are installed correctly.) They are PERFECTLY clear, don't obscure the screen at all, and they feel just like touching the actual screen. I truly consider them to be poor man's insurance.
Gotcha. Thanks

Tempered Glass Screen Protectors

As with any phone, this is a pretty hot topic and I expect no less from this phone.
Please share your experiences with tempered glass screen protectors in this thread so they do not clutter the forum.
Coming from the Nexus 6, tempered glass screen protectors were a nightmare . the curved screen made them have a halo effect and caused proximity sensor issues. I'm hoping this phone is not going to be the same.
Personally I just ordered the Spigen glass.tr slim for my phone.. It can be found for 9.99 + free shipping on amazon currently. I will be reporting back with my review once I receive it and my phone.
I've had bad luck with the tempered glass protectors. On both my Nexus 5 and my Nikon DSLR, I've had the tempered glass break - no damage to the screens themselves, just broken screen protectors. No thanks.
I'd say they did their job then ... Seems they protected your phone from breakinh

Yeah, lots of folks like them, I've just had bad luck. One on a DSLR, one on a phone, both from reputable manufacturers, and a couple years apart. Neither lasted two months, and I do baby my gear. Weird.

They can get scratched I promise, anything with quartz in it like sand, dirt etc will scratch it. I like the Spigen one because they are generally good for the price
My laid my spigen on top of my Cruzerlite bugdroid case to get an idea of coverage and it appears as though the screen protector goes edge to edge..leaving just barely enough room for a lip on a case

How many here got tempered glass instead of regular screen protector?

Hello,
So I have had been using Jettech tempered glass for my Note 5 since I got it last year and recently saw a crack on it and I was like how the heck I was like let me see if it's on the screen and
lol the whole thing cracked.
So I had a set of screen protectors at home for note 5 and I put that one. Now it's thin and doesn't even feel like there anything on the screen and the screen looks so beautiful colors and all but I'm worried-do we really need tempered glass protectors?
I've seen knife tests and all and this phone survives without any struggle so shouldn't this screen protector be enough?
What do you guys think? I do have a Spigen case on it-with in-built shock absorber and what not.
It depends on how anal you are. I assure you you will get a scratch at some point.
I got tempered glass because I didn't want a peice of plastic. Recently I watched a video about tempered glass and saw tempered glass can take a hit. If the tempered glass is hit at a specific way/angle then it shatters. But it can defiantly take a hit and prevent scratches

I understand but my question is should I get tempered glass or I'm fine with screen protector I have.
I already put one on but it's not tempered it's the regular one. Not sure how durable this is but my screen definitely looks better lol maybe because it's not that thick haha
Oh, sorry, I misunderstood. If you have a decent lip on your case I don't think the glass buys you a whole lot. With a slim case without much lip, I think they have saved my phone's screens a couple of times.
I'd say go for glass. Plastic is plastic. Glass a few dollars more for a reason)
Tempered glass here

I got the zagg plastic xtreme I think...comes with front and back protect.
It is nice on the back too...no more fingerprints.
I don't have any scratches yet. I can sort of rub light scratches right out...kind of cool.
Tempered glass will give you the height protection against scratches and impact, better clarity, last longer, better feel in hand sometimes better feel then the glass phone itself, less fingerprints. Tg is also better then a "shatter film" because it has better ratio between scratches and impact resistance.
There is no debate here...
I have tempered glass just because its clearer than plastic and is easier to clean. Its not super thick so i dont really mind also for the extra protection on such a exspensive phone.
Sent from my SM-N920W8 using XDA-Developers mobile app
Tempered glass is the best way to go. It provides better protection, is very hard to scratch, doesnt impact optics, and is easier to apply. No brainer.
I'd stick with what we all know, tempered glass. Just purchased the Note 5 from a private party seller and luckily it didn't have many scratches from the previous owner NOT having a screen protector on.
Purchased the glass and am loving it.
They're cheap AF on amazon and as good of quality as the $50 ones in stores.
Well I dropped my phone from pocket height yesterday, it fell face down, and sure enough I seen a crack across the screen. I am using the caselogy that covers the edges, so when I peeled back the tempered glass...it was just the temperd glass cracked. Ordered a new 1 on eBay for 5 dollars, this glass lasted 4 months
Ok guys- even though when I bought the phone new I had tempered glass on it and I was just lazy to order another one since I already had regular screen protector with me.
I'll order one - It's by company JTtech - 9.99 on Amazon prime.
I just got lazy and to be honest- the tests on youtube shows that the bare screen of the phone is very resilient so I shrugged it off.
I'll order it today. I also have Spigen case on with raised edges.
I've got about 6 different tempered glass screen protectors because I can't stand the feel of the plastic screen protectors...
Mind you the screen on my note 5 is a freaking joke. I went about a month without a screen protector and my screen is scratched to all hell. And that's just from pocket use... So in the end it doesn't matter which one you go with, just use a screen protector.
It's not entirely how anal you are. I haven't used them in years and never had a problem because I would always keep my phone in a pocket which I was sure was empty. However I tried an oleo phobic tempered glass screen protector from Benks. It is hard to get it on perfectly, but it is great in that the screen is much more slippery for the swipe keyboard usage and also it never shows fingerprints on the screen any more. (Also this is not as important but I like it that it removes/hides/covers up the obnoxious 'Samsung' logo.) If you but them, buy more than one because if you mess up putting it on then you have a spare (which you would eventually use anyway). I recently dropped my phone for the first time and freaked out - but my case and the Benks tempered glass protector together completely protected the phone - with a big crack across the screen - which disappeared when I peeled off the protector!

Tempered glass screen protectors are the way to go. The only way tempered glass can crack or break is if the edge or corner is hit (I should know, i work with tempered glass everyday) and since these protectors are so thin, there is only a fine edge on it, nearly impossible to hit with something, even though i had something hit that fine edge at work. i get all my tempered glass protectors off Amazon, $4 - $7, as compared to $35 for a Zagg temp glass protector in stores, or even $25 for a plastic protector.
Tempered glass is best
But does anyone have the halo? I put mine on perfectly centered and I've got a hell of a halo. I was wondering if there's no halo with a plastic screen protector. That would be one reason to vote for plastic.

Current case and screen protection

I was going through this thread to see what screen protectors and cases you all people use as a kind of recommendation for my next case and screen protector. But all you people are scattered in different posts discussing things.
So lets make things easy for everyone.

How's the day to day usage with bumper case? Is it worth the money? Any comparison with other cases you have used?
The main reason for getting the case was to showcase the metal back of the op3. And it does that beautifully.
The quality is great, however its a bit loose on the sides (by no means it will pop out, needs considerable effort) due to which sometimes the alert slider does not work, you have to press and move it. Is not noticeable unless you pull at the sides.
Does not add any thickness overall apart from the upper and the lower lip on the back. However the phone feels a bit broader in hand.
Overall happy, although pricey for 1700 inr ordered via their site 5$ discount covered the shipping.
I also have the sandstone and spigen tough armor.

Buy the gadgetshieldz screen protector. It is also film type one and durable too. Also it gives you the option of full phone film.
I have ordered one because my onePlus3 has many scratches one the surface, but the protector has reduced the display quality. Is there any screen protector that does not reduce the display quality? I have removed the protector, because for me it is better with scratches on the display than having reduced contrast by protector.
By the way, i never had scratches on any Phone display. The resistance to scratches seems to be very bad on this phone.

Gadgetshieldz. Try there screen protector
Using no case, only using a gadgetshieldz screenprotector which you hardly notice. Best screen protector around IMO.

But it doesnt protect against falls does it? THE screen will crack..😣

Good Tempered glass screen protector that even I could Install right first try!

Otao sent me their new screen protector for the Note 8, and I have to say, this is probably as good as it gets for normal stick on tempered glass protectors on this phone.
The box is pretty standard and comes with all the screen protector installation essentials.
The key to a good installation on any screen protector is making sure that your phone is clean and that you line up the protector perfectly. This is where the installation tray shines... I have installed protectors in the past on phones (feel free to look at old posts) and I can honestly say that this installation tray is the best one I have used... Initially I was worried because when I went to put the glass into it, it was tight. I thought maybe the sizes were off, but no, it was exactly the right size to make sure that there was very little to no wiggle room in there for the protector. This is good obviously because it only lets you put it in one spot, the right one.
Once you have it lined up, you just drop on the glass and make sure the edges are all the way down. (I just used the included microfiber cloth and went over them a few times.) Next you pop off the guide tray and you're done.
If you are using this screen protector without a case you will notice the increase in thickness, but it's not terrible. With a case however it fixes one of my biggest pet peeves.
You have to be careful when putting cases on when you have this screen protector installed because the bezels are so small on the phone that in order for it to actually protect the whole screen it goes pretty much all the way to the end. BUT this is awesome because the cases that I tried (ringke and rhinoshield) didn't knock off or move the screen protector, they came right up to the edge of it and sat almost flush. (I like this because I HATE when pocket lint gets caught between the protector and the case as I am sure many of you do.)
One thing I noticed is that while this protector does have the black bars all the way around it, it looks like they shrunk on the sides a little bit when compared to the Otao protector from the s8+. This makes it sort of a middle ground between the ones that have the clear sides but you can see the glue and the protectors that have black all the way around but cut off some of the screen. It's not perfect but I like how you don't lose much, if any of the screen real estate and you can only see a little bit of the adhesive.
Overall I would say that this screen protector (so far) is pretty legit. I haven't noticed any loss in sensitivity, no rainbowing, no clicking and no covering over any sensors. The dot matrix is visible under certain lighting conditions but that is to be expected.
I only just installed this protector and will update this post if anything goes wrong or changes, but if this is like my S8+ version, i'm sure I won't have any issues.
If you have any questions or anything let me know and i'll try to respond and get them answered.

Does it work with UAG cases? like the Monarch or the Plasma? those case really kills most TG protectors. even the domeglass. if you didnt put it on perfect, you can say 45 bucks byebye.
thanks.

I made the Whitestone Dome work with the UAG PLASMA AND PLYO. With a Dremel and sanding the corners. The PLASMA is my flavored case for looks and protection.

This one fits, the one from the OP 100% no, the corner rounding isn't flat enough. If you compare both on the pictures you'll see.

On Amazon.com it is available too.

Edge only. Forget about full adhesive, except whitestone. I've ordered two classic full adhesive @ AliExpress. A joke Bubbles, not adhering properly on the right and left side. And well the UAG wouldn't have fit with both too. Opened a dispute for both and got my money back.
