i notice this app in the android app store today. has anyone purchased this $4.99 app? recommendations? pros and cons?
damn, instead of fixing their app they want us to buy it AGAIN?!
this kind of behavior by app makers really makes me mad!!
...and besides, by the comments, it looks like it still changing the host's resolution, that is the biggest issue with this app for me, as it messes with all open windows locations and sizes.
this is bull****, it should be an update. i have the old app and it's the best for streaming videos but not for actual work, for that i recommend teamviewer.
i disagree. this app is great and is well worth the $5 dollars for their hard work. you can always request a refund for the first app. they might not give it to you but its worth a shot.
the app runs incredibly even on my ****ty internet
it originally does change your resolution size however when reverting back to normal resolution the orientation of your desktop is left unchanged! you can make it not change your resolution at all in the settings for the connection itself.
great app
I bought it since I do not have it yet. yes it DOES change the host resolution to 720p which is VERY annoying but otherwise it is pretty good.
THanks for the heads up....although I SWEAR that I saw this thread in the Asus Transformer section....now it is in Xoom section?
I like the app, except I wish it had the ability to blank the screen on the host. Resolution change doesnt bother me as it does this to match the screen resolution of the xoom. Also you can not use it outside of your own LAN yet which is a pretty big deal.

Sure you can, it's called port forwarding.
By the way this version of the app utilizes the dual core tegra more efficiently and they are already optimizing for 1280x752 instead of just 1280x720. I was running around in WoW for a few minutes, it was funny

Yes you can, you can use it as long as you know your IP address and the port that is assigned to Splashtop, it tells you that when you configure it the first time.
I bought the program based on the comments in the market after the OP here made me aware of the program. I think it's a great program and it does exactly what it says it does.

That's normal for remote desktop. Even the windows client from Microsoft does this.
If you don't want this behavior you're going to need to find a different protocol, like logmein or VNC.
I bought it, love it. Might as well get it now before the price raises to 10. Even if not going to use it much like me.

that is not correct. RDP can just use the host resolution (or any available resolution in the host) like any other! even spalshtop for iOS can do that!!
check your facts before posting something like that!
Ok just to be fair, if you adjust it to use the computer's native resolution, it doesn't change a thing host wise. It defaults to best fit the device using it, and most people don't know how to change it or didn't know you could.

that is something that already existed in iOS version, but not in the non-HD version and the description of the app didn't mentioned it... some posts confirmed it changing the resolution anyway, like the non-HD version, but I'm glad they actually implemented this setting this time. (can you confirm it not changing a host resolution larger the 1280x800? 1440x900 or 1920x1080? thanks)
Just waiting if they can refund the old version now, as I have no use for it and was just it for this single option to be implemented.
Yes, my res is 1440*900 and it doesn't change a thing host wise for me.

(if anyone with ~ 1920x1080 can confirm this too, it would be very nice!)
I have tried
phonemypc
Team viewer
Loads of vnc ones
And this is by far the best viewer application at the moment.
Audio streaming has problems though.( solved my set up is PC to HD TV to amp, just had to changed it from HDMI audio to standard and it worked)
I will be sticking with this for a while.

i bit the bullet and decided to purchase the app. im loving the app. a cheaper alternative to gotomypc or teamviewer. i love the fact that it streams the desktop, audio, and video to the xoom. highly recommend this app!
Somebody made a video demonstrating it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tpEo7pyX8XQ
(I think it was fondoo )
I wanted to know since the tab has a screen that is 3x as big as a Galaxy S (3 phones put side by side on the tab) is there an app or a home launcher or something that will allow me to have multiple things running on different screens.
For example, I need to take information from one document and organize with another and I can easily switch between them on Windows and Linux.
I then need to tag along to other places and want to continue to edit both documents on my tab, I have to keep opening one document then remember a sentence or piece of information for a second and close that document and open the second one to continue typing it up.
It is a real hassle and very time consuming and frustrating. Our tabs are pretty big and I would like to utilize it to the fullest of its capabilities as a tablet/big smartphone.
What my suggestion is if anyone feels like making an app that I can do just this and more on my tab, they couod design an app that works like the home screen.
For instance you open a document, email, or webpage and want to look at another document or note you made for yourself or another email. All you do is swipe to the left or right and it is a clear home screen or something to that effect or maybe a list of documents, notes, emails, webpages you can open. You then choose/open what you need and can continue with the first page having the second one open for reference or whatever the case may be.
You can then easily switch between the 2 or however many pages you have opened just by swiping the screen just like you would your homescreen.
If someone knows of such an app or had the resources to make one please let me know.
Also this would make for a great multi-tasking app if made correctly.
What might be an issue here is that most programs themselves are going to detect the loss of focus and handle things. Either saving/reverting to front screen/closing down completely, or leaving things up and running.
I can see what you're after, more a 'cards' type thing, and it might be possible, but you'd have to override what the OS is sending to the apps (don't send the lose focus thing), or get the apps to handle things differently.
Either going to be impossible, or trivial. And even if it was possible to be hacked, apps are going to be assuming their running and might use more power. The way it works at the moment is to assume you're being shut down, and handle that gracefully so you're using minimal resources on a phone.
If one were to change how android handles the multi-tasking, would this sort of app be possible?
Another question is, are there any document editors that can do something like this?
I have an iPod Touch and an app named iFile, and it has multi-window type thing that I am describing where I can open many pages and view many documents at a time.
That's the main thing I want it for, editing documents without having to open and close constantly.
I was thinking of this the other day. This would be something you'd have to build into a ROM. It'd be a nice mod, and since Android already takes screenshots for the recent apps bar, it wouldn't be too hard to implement once the source is released. My thought is it would be a four or five finger gesture left or right. It could possibly zoom out similar to how the screens zoom when you drag an icon on the launcher so that the other tasks could be visible at the same time. The normal activity lifecycle would continue as usual (i.e. onPause() would be called as soon as the gesture starts, and onStop() once the activity is off the screen). A screenshot would be used in place of the actual Activity until the gesture is over (meaning the Activity has "snapped" into place).
Just thought I would ask the question.
Do people use their Note to draw or write?
If you write do you use a specific software or the samsung installed keypad?
Just curious to hear some input.
I use an application called graffiti pro.

i find it difficult and disappointing to take notes in classes or in meetings using S-memo app as touching the menu and/or back button happens almost everytime unless im extra carefull and focusing not to touch them , which in one way or another , counters the idea note taking freely...
dont get me wrong , this device is awesome , and i love it , but software wise its.......meh . it only lacks a few simple points and touches on the main apps it was promoted with... (simple palm rejection!? , or rejection of finger touches with the S-pen is active in the screen!? ,2 way automatic syncing or backup!? )
i know there r some market apps that can do that , but why Samsung just couldn't just do it with the bundled s-memo app ??? its not only about sketching and pressure sensitive points , those worth nothing as a "Note" taking device in my opinion.
Why not try FreeNote from Android Market instead of S-Memo? Freenote seems to be a bigger brother of S-Memo and it can easily "share" (which means, export) its notes to any app that can accept graphic files. I hope FreeNote keeps evolving, as it seems to have great potential!
Quite handy when getting a phone number on the fly or anything in that manner. I also write my grocery lists in here. And I'm using it quite often right now because of the Draw Something game.
Skitch + evernote combo works quite well for me
loads
I do a lot now. I also use skitch as I have everything in evernote.
The feel for me is that it is 'natural' to lift the Note and write a note . It looks and feels just like a pocket notepad. My writing is probably not as good as pen & paper, but with some effort it is passable.
The alternatives are tedious and intrusive. I either hold it two-handed and thumb-type, use swype, or have a BT keyboard. All are OK, but for some reason it is harder to concentrate on other people when typing.
In a meeting or conversation, the natural note-taking wins every time, as it is less intrusive and allows you to focus more on the people you are talking to, I find. YMMV.
Once you've saved a screen memo (like a shopping list in my case - I saved it by accident by inserting the s-pen), can you still get it back on your screen off memo? Now when I take my s-pen out with the screen off, I get a blank memo. I really wish there was a way to get it back to the screen off memo so I could use it while shopping without using much battery or opening my phone. Thoughts?
you can pin it clicking pin icon, recall later double clicking the pin, but if your main concern is battery, well the phone is running, screen is on regardless if it's full on or in screen off memo mode and background apps are running, so not much of a difference. You're better off picking up dark theme and dark wallpapers and have lower battery usage screen off or not. If you want to be really scientific about it, download program to monitor and record battery usage, write on paper what time what mode your phone was and what was battery drain exactly and compare. Personally, I think there are much more effective ways to save battery, like above mentioned dark theme or manually killing unused apps.

But once it's been saved and it's only found in your Samsung notes, can you still pin it? I don't see the option.
A black screen would certainly be way less battery than the white one, but really it's about convenience. I can not even unlock my screen and still get to my grocery list versus having to unlock it. Small thing I know, but it is definitely more convenient when pinned.
Sorry, I don't know if and how you can pin already saved note to AOD display.

Seems like you can't.
That's annoying. It's as if you can't put your s-pen away for fear of the auto save.
I think the original idea was to have a way to make quick hand note, like writing somebody's phone number you just met on the street, or quick memo at the meeting and I used it in such a way many times, nothing more. You can pin saved note to the home screen and reach it there easily, after opening the phone. One reason your idea may never be implemented could be security, you never know what important info people could have there and having that info so visible may be against current trend of securing things. You may use it for nothing more than shopping list, but for example I used it to write complicated passwords to bank accounts and computer networks etc.
Also, it seems screen off memo is Samsung Note series exclusive feature, so it may be trial and error for them to figure what exactly people want and do with it. Taking away Action memo and it's advanced features, which was available on older Notes and no more suggests to me they still trying to figure it out.

I agree, in general.
I saw people suggesting in reviews that it could be used as a grocery list and I liked the idea. I saw one review showing someone using it at the store actually. Maybe it was staged.
I've been playing around with some of the settings regarding the Korean Model's Dual Screen. This Thread is just meant to discuss what I've found.
Dual Home Launcher:
The Dual Screen has its own launcher, to which the Dual Screen will always return when the "Home" button is taped on the Dual Screen. There is no option to set a "Default Launcher" for the Dual Screen. Of the standard launcher options preinstalled on the main device, the Dual Home Launcher most closely resembles the "Home & App Drawer" launcher, but is its own environment.
The Dual Screen can load a different launcher as you would load a typical app, but the home button will always take your back to the Dual Home Launcher. A different launcher can be assigned as the "Dual App" (the app that automatically loads whenever the dual screen is turned on) but again, the home button will still take your back to the Dual Home Launcher. Additionally, when a "Dual App" is assigned, they Dual App will automatically be brought to the forefront whenever the device is brought back from "screen off", opened from a closed state, or returned from the 360° opened, second screen off position. Basically, using a Dual App is an annoying option, and it doesn't work to assign a different launcher for the dual screen anyways.
I have discovered that is possible to open the Dual Home Launcher on the main screen. To do it, you need Nova Launcher or Action Launcher on your system, or a similar Launcher that adds an "activities" widget. In the activities widget's apps list, you will find the Dual Home Launcher as as n app, and the primary launcher activity can be used to bring it up on the primary screen. As usual, if you got home on the dual screen, it just moves the application over to that screen.
I'm interested in testing with the disabling of the Dual Home Launcher App, per this method: https://www-xda--developers-com.cdn...ers.com/disable-system-app-bloatware-android/, but I have no idea what it would do. Too bad I can't make a TWRP backup first. I'm also interested in the idea of spoofing the app's name in the system to make the device think that a third party launcher is the Dual Home Launcher and basically set THAT launcher as the default Dual Screen launcher. In particular, I think Lucid Launcher, AIO Launcher, or WX Launcher would be good Default Dual Screen Launchers, per my tastes, but I think having Lawnchair on the Dual Screen next to Nova Prime would probably be a popular setup.
Tasker:
The App Tasker has had zero efforts in it's development for dual screen compatibility, as far as I can tell. Events triggered to bring up apps or things like that will have their action committed on whichever screen is active at the time, basically, whichever screen you've used last.
To demonstrate what I mean, as a test, I've loaded up a simple "torch" app on both screens that has one function, a single tap on the screen will make the screen change from white to Black, or black to White. If you tap the second screen, it changes, then you tap the primary screen, "nothing" happens and it requires a second tap to change the color is the main screen. Then, tap the second screen again, and it takes two taps to cause the app's function. When you are using one screen, your first touch on the other screen doesn't activate anything, just changes the focus of the device to that screen, whereupon you can begin making touch inputs on that screen. The screen that you're on, that you've used last, is your active screen. This is the screen that Tasker will commit actions on, regardless of which environment triggers the event. There is no option in the Tasker Dialogues to choose which screen something will target. I haven't experimented with it much at this time, but I'm certain that this could cause bugs and failed triggers if you have triggers try to target an environment in which an app that would be expected to be forefront is not there. I haven't experimented much yet, but I've been attempting to make contact with the Developers of Tasker, to add a screen targetting plugin, and to add "Secondary Display on", "Secondary Display off", and "Secondary Display Load App" as selectable event triggers. I've been on the Tasker Forums, and someone recommended I explore the methods on here: https://forum.joaoapps.com/index.ph...ings-to-use-in-autotools-secure-settings.210/ to try and find the variables for Secondary Display On/Off at least, and I'm hopeful that there might be a way to shift focus to one screen or the other as part of a series of actions, which would allow an app to be loaded on a specific screen. I'm interested to see what can be done in this regard.
"Island" App:
The App "island" is a very interesting project that is still under development. When you install it, it requests the permissions and then takes you through the setup of a "Work" App Environment, and installs to it another copy of the Google Play Store. Basically, this Play Store is the same as your normal Play Store, and should be linked up to the same Google Account. The App's icon gets a little Briefcase on it to signify that it's a Work app, and you have to set up a second Pin, Knock Code or Password for it (I'm not sure if this can be the same it not. I made mine different). When you load it, it asks for the code, and then opens a normal looking play store, except none of your apps are downloaded yet. Any app that you download with this play store get that same little Briefcase icon, and exist as "Work" apps, which basically lets you install two copies of any app.
Some limitations: any Launchers that you attempt to download within the Work Environment will only include Work Environment Apps within their app drawers. Normal, or "personal" environment Launchers, however, DO show Work Environment Apps next to their regular, "Personal" Environment counterparts. "Work" Launchers do not appear in the "default launcher selection" dialogues. Widget's are funky too. Work Environment Apps that have widgets do not have them become available universally, the way that normal apps do. Work Environment Launchers with widgets, for instance, can only load those widgets within that launcher. Basically, "Work" dual loaded Launchers just aren't a great idea.
Island also adds another APK installer, do you can install any downloaded apk in the work environment. I haven't tested installing an alternative app store in the work environment, but I would imagine that one would still install apps from it into the Work Environment as well. Untested theory though.
Using island, you can load to copies of, say, social media apps, and then have both apps running at the same time, one on one display, the other on the other, whereas, normally trying this would just cause the app to jump over to that screen, rather than dual booting. In most cases, you can log in the same account, or a different account, on the two screens. Be actively watching two different Discord servers on your device, from one single account, for instance, if you'd like.
Island is a little funky in certain regards, as it's still in development, but I've gotta say, it works very well at this point. And it basically makes every app in existence dual screen compatible.
I haven't tried installing a Qslide app in the Work Environment yet. I'm intrigued, now that I'm thinking about it.
Shoot, I've written a serious mini novel here. I guess I'll stick a bookmark in it here for now. I'll keep this Thread up to date on what I've discovered though. I've got a few avenues that I want to explore.
Hi,
That's a fascinating piece, especially as Sky Go in the UK, won't play for me on the V50.
There is a theory that as it's effectively casting to the second screen Sky Go blocks the TV content.
Of course it may just be an Android 9 system issue?
Still working on exactly what's going on.
I have taken the V50 out off the Dual screen case but it makes no difference.
The island app may possibly be another avenue to pursue.
Any advice or comment would be most welcome.
Again a most interesting post.

Search dual screen in settings
No, but you can find the options relating to the dual screen feature by using a shortcut app to find the hidden options, and create a home screen shortcut if necessary. Idk what you can use em for, but they are buried in the system somewhere.

I thought only the v60 could.

I have a model I bought off ebag that says its an LG V50, V450VM. I updated it over the air on verizon and the multiple updates went though no problem, the box was all in Chinese for the most part, says made in china and it has the 3 pogo pin connection on the back of the case. Will the second screen work with this model, whatever the hell it really is? It seems to work just fine on Verizon and like I said, it updated flawlessly.

PS : if the dualscreen is not working due to V450VM ROM maybe you can use LG UP do flash a V500N ROM ... hopefully the "bands" are compatible with verizon ... also you may ask on reddit or telegram : https://android.fandom.com/wiki/V50_ThinQ ...
Hi Pierro, so I have my second screen with the pogo pins in it now. It sadly does not seem to work with Verizon, when I snap the phone into it, I get nothing. Perhaps I will try flashing a different software on it as you suggested......
Here's the only reliable way I could find to do it. It's a tiny bit quirky but it works great.
