Disable Google Processes - Xiaomi Mi Max 2 Questions & Answers

Hi,
I received my Mi Max 2 a couple of days ago which came with Global ROM installed. One thing i noticed is there seems to NOT be the option to disable Google processes like Google Maps, Music, Gmail etc etc. The option seems to be greyed out. All of this stuff running in the background shortens the battery as I found out when I got my HAM2 several years ago and once I disabled all this stuff, the battery improved significantly.
On the Mi Max 2, it's possible only to Force Stop all this, but it all only starts up again each time the phone is booted. Is there any way to DISABLE it all?
Thannks.

Well, I went to MIUI Forums and they were more responsive and so I thought I would post a solution from there to here in case anyone else is wondering:-

Hopefully, that link will work.
Cheers!

Moto G6 notifications during sleep

Got my moto g6 amazon exclusive model a few days ago. I started to notice while the phone was just sitting on my desk and gone to sleep / doze? my notifications were not coming through (around 5-10 mins after screen off). Any notifications within that time would be fine. After that if I had any new notifications, I would get them all in one go after I turned the screen on or moved my phone with moto display. (I turned off the motion sensor feature)
Just trying to get an understanding of whats going on. I have played around with some settings and currently seem to have got it back to normal by setting all my important apps (gmail/whatsapp/twitter...) to not be battery optimised. I also found some notification setting elsewhere that gave the default launcher permissions. I used nova launcher so I gave that permission too just in case, but I think the main fix was battery optimisation.
Just find it odd that I have never had to go into battery optimisation before on my previous phones (nexus 4, wileyfox swift) and notifications have come through fine after long periods of time in sleep mode.
Anyone able to suggest something else that may be causing this, or I could try. I wouldnt have noticed this problem if it wasnt for being at my PC and seeing new emails/fb messages coming in and not getting notification on my phone after the phone had gone into sleep.
-------------
As of typing this I recieved an email that also did not notify on my phone. Only when I picked up the phone I got it instantly. Battery optimisation for apps may not have worked.
Hi,
Could you solve this issue? If so, how?
Thanks.
I had the same issue a few weeks ago after playing around and disabling apps/services I didn't think i needed . I had to re-enable the "Moto" app, go into "Moto Display" and enable "Peek Dsiplay". That fixed notifications coming through the locked screen for me.

Background processes killing. Is it problematic for you?

Reading this https://dontkillmyapp.com/oneplus I'm left wondering if some strange behaviour I'm seeing could be motivated by this.
For instance, I've been using for several years this app, Stay Alive: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.synetics.stay.alive
It gives you the option of having the screen not turning itself off when charging. It's crucial in the car, where I have a dock mounted and use the phone for navigation, music playback, etc.
On my previous Nexus 6P the app worked flawlessly. With 6T sometimes the screen turns off and then it turn itself on once more, as if the process got killed and then restarted.
I have the "don't optimize" option activated for Stay Alive.
There are other strange behaviours I'm seeing, with Tasker for instance. And the nagging feeling that they might depend on background process handling at the OS level.
I recently did turn off Battery/Battery Optimisation/Advanced Optimisation/Deep Optimisation and Sleep standby optimisation, hoping to get better results. I still haven't reached a conclusion about it.
I have to say that it's pretty annoying to have the phone decide for you what should be happening for apps. For instance, I had Firefox in the "Don't optimize" category but it still had problems with opening new pages after a while. Turning off the above two options seems to have cured the problem but if that is needed I wonder what the heck "Don't optimise" mean for OnePlus.
I hope to get to the bottom of this as, quite frankly, not having the phone "act on his own" behind the scenes is exactly why I chose Android as my OS.

Thank you for this.
I've been feeling stupid having all these issues of pass getting killed in the background.
For me proper working phone is more important than battery life. I can easily get one whole day 6AM-11PM with around 30% battery left.
I would be ok if the apps won't get killed and I have say, 10% battery left at the end of the day.
I also don't understand this, it's what I really dislike about the OnePlus phones. In earlier Android versions it was always adviced not to use app killers because the Android OS knows best when to kill an app. Now OnePlus is doing exactly this, and then call it an optimization... [emoji848]
But @gorman42 are you aware of the option System - Developer Options - Stay Awake?

I want to say you're right but it's not only OnePlus that has too aggressive background killing. Google put optimization into Android a couple of years ago and they can't seem to hit a perfect medium between both. I'm sick of switching apps and then going back into an app a couple of minutes later to just have to start at the top of the feed again. It's annoying and it's happened with my 6t, Moto z, Droid turbo, lg g4, and my Galaxy s6 when they were all in their "prime". I think it boils down to Google ultimately
Turn off adaptive battery and on your apps you absolutely want untouched selectDon't optimize under battery > battery optimizations. After doing that I have what is consider a normal experience.

Yes, I am. But the screen dims. It doesn't turn off but it dims. For in car navigation that is clearly undesired.
I wonder whether rooting would give me back the control I need through some third party modification...

What most of the times work for for me is open the app, then go to recent app management, click on the 3 dots in the upper right corner above the app and choose lock.
And thanks for the tip of this app, because of company policy "stay awake" was disabled on my device and this app overrides it (Earlier I tried 2 or 3 similar apps but they didn't work, this one does).

You really shouldn't have to modify your phone to, by chance, fix what OnePlus did (same could be said about other OEMs too, but that's besides the point right now). OnePlus needs to fix this issue, which has been an ongoing thing in their ROMs for over two years.
It's a shame that it takes a few app devs getting bad reviews on their apps to come up with a website pointing out the offenders of aggressive app management, with OnePlus being number 2 on the list for this issue to pick up traction, despite numerous users reporting about it on their forum and via in-app feedback for so long.
I said it before, and I'll say it again: Compared to OxygenOS on the 3T, OxygenOS nowadays has become so nice to use on the 6T that I don't have a need to root anymore. It's just this issue that really hampers it.
I fell in love with OnePlus when I bought my very first OnePlus phone, the OnePlus 3T. I've since then owned the OnePlus 5T and 6T. Unfortunately I've been disappointed with both because of this specific issue. If they don't resolve this issue within the lifetime of my 6T I feel obligated to start looking for something other than a OnePlus phone next Such a shame, as I love everything else about OnePlus and OxygenOS.
While investigating this I stumbled upon a setting in Developer Options.
Here’s the description and explanation: https://www.techrepublic.com/article/how-to-use-android-pie-standby-apps/
Problem is, with 6T all apps are stuck to ACTIVE status, you can’t modify their status. I guess this could point to OnePlus messing with regular Android power management.

Yeah, I tried before writing here.
It happens when you disable Adaptive Battery. If Adaptive Battery is enabled, those settings are active.
I have the same issues with several apps (Tasker, Gravity Screen, Whatsapo (Web)...). The apps was running perfectly on my old lg g4 but on the OPO 6T they gets killed too often. Also disabled adaptive Battery and set those apps to dont optimize. But this doesnt helps....
In previous OOS on the 5T there was an setting for background apps count in developer options, this is sadly gone on our 6T. Is there a way to use this option also when removed from dev options?
(maybe editing some files).
Thx

Yes, it is a problem for me. Never had a phone with such aggressive battery management. It even periodically kills my wifi for no reason.
There are 3 settings under Settings > Battery:
1. Battery Saver
2. Battery optimization
3. Adaptive Battery
I have been able to get a somewhat 'normal' experience after turning all 3 options off for Whatsapp, Tasker, etc... For some programs, it seems that it needs to be started, and left running without closing the program in 'Recentd's..
I am rooted and use Greenify to close programs that I want killed when in the background..
@gorman42
Why do you need this staying-alive app?
Google Maps and Waze already make the device's screen stay awake while navigating...

List your issues with P30 Pro

Not sure if this is permitted by the mods, but let's make a list of issues and bugs you experience on your P30 Pro. It's a fantastic device, but every now and then I run into, or hear about some stupid issue that impacts the overall experience, but probably could be fixed if reported.
Two of my biggest issues right now:
screen gets unresponsive at times in the bottom left corner
sometimes when I pull down WhatsApp notifications, if there are more of them they get stuck on the screen and won't pull back up, not even using the back key, only swiping them one by one gets them off the screen
My only issue: Having to pay to a rip off like FunkyHuawei to get my official updates!

I followed the instructions in the link to the thread below to get the latest updates.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/hu...orial-vog-l29-flash-firmware-153-usb-t3928793
Ghost vibrations.. I have turned off vibrations now since it does vibrate without getting notifications like once or twice/hour or 2...
Updates from Huawei seem very staggered, seem to mainly be looking after their own country who seem to be about 3 firmware’s ahead of a lot of other places. i know a lot are getting v153 now but why are a lot going straight from 124 to 153 yet some places got fw's in-between in the 140's? i am currently on 124 and my provider EE in the uk say they still haven’t received any newer fw from Huawei since v124.
Issues with screen response, sometimes i have to tap home button a couple of times for it to register, same with some notifications when i unlock the screen, having to tap them a few times.
The software is really rubbish compared to Samsung, i have only just come over to Huawei from Samsung, i had an s8 and it had not long got One Ui, and that genuinely felt more developed, faster and smoother on my s8 that one this p30 pro.
There’s been a couple of times i have contacted the Huawei chat on the Hicare app and they are really funny cause whatever i tell them my issue is they seem to always want me to completely reset my device.
I keep getting really annoying gray bubble pop up notifications telling me apps have been blocked from showing their dropzone and other notifications similar that i know has happened, like sound has been changed etc, not sure how to turn them off cause i don't need them to keep telling me.
I don't understand why Huawei would release a flagship phone and not have the software just feel complete and nice because at the end of the day it’s that which you pretty much judge the phone on.
I guess i also don't like that there seems to be too many settings to change and turn off to make the phone useable, that’s why doing a flash that wipes the phone is really putting me off doing that and using the method that’s being used at the moment to update to 153 via the OTG method.
The screen auto brightness bug that’s not a bug according to huawei and is a feature? The fact that every time i restart my phone i turn auto brightness off and then it comes back on every restart! It really makes me laugh that they think forcing you to have to do that every time you restart is a good feature to have. They say it saves power so it good, yes if you leave it on! i was talking to them and said well the slider is there to have auto on or not so if people wanted it on, they would leave it on would they not? It’s not the biggest issue in the world but it’s fun arguing with them about it, it does annoy me though lol
My issue is simple, EMUI.
Coming from an S10 and oneUI and mix 3 with miui made me realize how bad EMUI is in everything, cloning iOS, native apps like dialer gallery calendar, missed up setrings, Crippled animations (this is a huge one) and notifications. Stupid decissions like launching the camera with volume down. Many many things
I just wish Huawei support at least native Android interface, animations and gestures
Hello,
I have P30 Pro L29 Global
256GB with 8GB of RAM
Update 9.1.0.140
My issue previouly was huge battery drain which makes no sense for p30 pro to run out of battery at 7pm (100% at 7.00am) for moderate usage.
So I have tried clearing cache partition and factory reset several times to find out the culprit. It seems the battery drain stops when I factory reset and did not restore anything from HiSuite (I start fresh).
Setting > Battery > Usage
What I noticed was that the battery drain seems to happen when "Phone Services" at 34% usage. Initially I thought it was normal but after comparing with the p30 pro's of my colleague, her "Phone Services" always lower than 2% usage.
The main culprit that i suspected was Carrier Services which I didn't update till this day in playstore.
I also stop the Carrier Services in Developer mode 1 time.
Until now my battery life is superb. Lasting me 30 hours of moderate usage (still have 37%) at the time I recharge.

- Firmware updates are messed up, they need to fix this
- Annoying beeps without any notification icon
- Memory management is way to agressive (softphones like skype keep missing calls)
- Native android options are missing
- Response to back button or home button is sometimes not working only after after pressing it multiple times it works.
All above can easily be fixed, the real question is will they fix it ?
Issues i have is that sometimes when i m fast typing a message the keyboard disappeared(i m using gestures, I don't know if this is the case) and the AOD with smart view flip case issue. Other than that i have zero issues, extreme great battery life 2 full days with normal use(facebook ,instagram ,mail ,chatting, light gaming e.t.c.) and 35% left or 1+ day heavy usage. I m coming from p20 pro and yes at the beginning i was very fraustrating with emui and how it works, but after learned and used to it, i loved it(it should be smoother though). My major complain is the lack of notification led, I missed it soooo much.
I have the P30 Pro, VOG-AL10, 8GB/512GB model; gifted from a friend
I have a couple annoyances
1) My biggest problem (along with any other mainland Android phone I've owned) is there is no way to force full encryption. You can only add stuff to the "safe."
2) My second annoyance is the aggressive power management. I've done a lot of my own tweaking so it doesn't force close my Cisco AnyConnect client for example. I use LastPass for password management and for whatever reason, whenever I re-open the app it requires I use my 2FA again even when I choose remember for 30 days. I don't know if this is a LastPass problem or what. The only way to keep it from resetting is to keep it active in my open apps.
3) Even though I use Chrome as the default browser, for certain tasks (like using a WiFi hotspot that requires registration), it will still open in the default browser which you need to accept their TOS to use...
4) I use SwiftKeys as my default keyboard. I have the Huawei IME unchecked. I use the phone, after a while the Huawei IME will get enabled again.
The BIGGEST issue I am facing is the lack of the Camera2.API implementation with the p30 pro

Even doing that you can render certain features unusable since they aren't certified so saftey net fails meaning some games, banking apps and g pay won't work. I've reset using the USB method mentioned and have everything back to normal. Just going to be patient instead of blowing cash and wrecking stuff.

I think aperture mode is rubbish. Really poor quality, unless anyone has any suggestion to improve it. However just standard photos of objects seems to have fairly decent bokeh by default so use that as a kind of object portrait mode.

Android Auto doesn't work most of the time, and when it does, it stops working after a couple of minutes.
1) No Bootloader unlock
2) No way to set Alarm tone Globally
3) Missing an option to install firmware manually
4) Change volume without preview sound
5) Some basic apps are not system apps and when uninstalling them having no way of getting them back (not available on PlayStore, AppStore)
Im on 9.1.0.131 firmware.
My problems are:
1. Phone sometimes vibrates without any notification icon
2. Proximity sensor doesn't work sometimes during phone calls. The screen is lit up the whole time Im on my phone
3. The slow motion videos at higher fps are of ****ty quality
4. Opening up the apps from notifications panel doesn't response sometimes and the respective app doesn't open up
Though I dont have any issues like other mentioned like battery draining, heating up etc

Mi 9, twitch notifications are unreliable on lockscreen (android 10, Miui 11.0.6)

Hi, I recently switched from an iphone to a Mi 9 and I've been noticing that some notifications come later on my Mi 9 than on my iphone, mainly the twitch app one. The thing is, it only happens when the phone is locked, when my iphone gets a notification the mi 9 sometimes takes up to 15 minutes to show it, if I unlock the Mi 9 as soon as my iphone gets the notification I instantly get the push notification.
Seems like the phone is not sending notifications reliably while locked, sometimes it takes 1 minute, sometimes 6, sometimes 13 minutes. I have the app set to not be restricted by power saving and I have power saving off.
Is this normal, is it app related or am I missing a setting that prevents this?
If you know logic, yo can infer that is a problem of the especific app.
What I find weird is that I tried searching online and I didn't find anything relative to lockscreen updates being delayed, I even had people saying that its "Normal" with xioami because they also have delayed lockscreen notifications with instagram, whatsapp, etc. For now what I've noticed is that it only happens with twitch.
If the phone is unlocked the notifications work perfectly, if its locked it can take a random ammount of time for them to be shown, that's why I opened this thread, maybe it could be a weird setting that I have turned on and I don't know.
PS: It's my first android phone ever.
What version of android you are using?
In xiaomi things are wild, even for android standards, there are MANY ROMs.
In android world always post the most information you can about your device.
I can say if you don't like to learn you will have a bad time.
I use .eu rom, 9.8.1. And I don't have any problem with notifications with the phone off.

I'm using the Standard European version that came with it I think its called Global EEA, its on Android 10 with the Miui 11.0.6 QFAEUXM (updated from 0.5 yesterday).
This rom is know to be garbage, fresh install xiaomi.eu, or normal Global.
Did a little bit of more investigation...
While the phone is charging I get all the notifications as they should be (instantaneous)
If I unlock the phone and use it, once I lock it will show the notifications instantaneous but just up to some minutes (I don't know how many)
Clearly the phone goes into some kind of "sleep" once if gets locked for a while and some apps don't show the notification as soon as they are sent, I have Twitch on "non restriction" on the battery saving options and I've now even enabled auto-start, still only show notifications after a random ammount of minutes (usually between 1 minute and 15minutes).
From what I've searched other phones have suffered from aggressive ram management in the past, I don't know why Xiaomi does this... makes no sense to have a phone that is unreliable with it's notifications while locked, at least allow us to choose apps to bypass this...

Google Play Services acting weird

hello guys,
my OP3T did serve me very well over the last couple years but now im facing some strange behaviours. im running android 11 via ArrowOS in the latest version.
so one day i randomly got a text saying that im about to reach my data limit which is weird, as i barely do anything with my device. i checked the setting and found out that my device downloaded almost 5 GB of a system update i was not aware of or even could find any info about (pic 1 + 2 + A). adding to that another 15 GB when hooked on the wifi. (pic 3),
although pic 7 shows the app having ACTUALLY downloaded only around 200 MB.
through the battery stats i found out that google play services appeard to be active 24/7 and sucking the battery dry, literally >> 99% ????
i cleared the cache of google play services already but completely deactivating is not an option as its linked to every other app there is.
any help you guys could offer? if possible without resetting the device or reflashing.
thx
I normally keep Google play Services disable unless I need it for Gmail or Playstore.
It's a trouble maker.
Google backup Transport runs as a dependency of it as well, that may be your culprit.
Since Pie Google Android has mutated into a even more fat big sister of a hog. Who needs that?!
i tried that but my phone keeps constantly buzzing then as it finds more and more apps that stopped working and i get notification after notification.
