Says not optimized and it just doesn't work to mirror the screen to my Chromecast. Either with Screencast or Smart View.
I have the original Chromecast. Not the "Chromecast Ultra".
Will the Note 8 ONLY mirror the screen on the Ultra? Casting YouTube videos is fine.
I can cast using Smart View with a standard Chromecast just fine. USB-C > HDMI also works with my dongle

Well hell, I'm seeing the same thing. I've always seen that warning on my other phones but I just click "don't show again" and just continue with the cast and it works just fine. Now it's not. Huh... Wonder what's up with that.

Just wondering, are you using your phone in 1080 resolution? I have mine in 1440, and I wonder if that's why.

Okay, now I see the problem. It's the resolution option you choose. I was on WQHD+ (2960x1440) so I switched to FHD+ (2220x1080) and I was able to screen cast to my Chromecast like before. It's the same on the S8 Plus I got. Screen resolution needs to be set to FHD+ and lower in order to work.
Not the worst thing, the picture seems fine enough for me. Wonder if future updates to the Chromecast will support higher resolutions.

The original Chromecast won't ever be capable of more than 1080p resolution. The Chromecast Ultra offers 4K, though.

Hi
I ve bought the multimedia dock. When connected to my full hd TV then the image is too high in vertical mode and too wide in horizontal mode. Lets say, in vertical mode I only can see the botton part of the notification icons. Any clue?
Check your TV for any type of scale settings, my Panasonic made my ps3 zoom a bit like that.

Mi TV has 1080 pixels high but I guess the galaxy note2 is sending 1200 pixels. Could it be the reason?
Usually you have an option called Overscan or Full-Scan which needs to be adjusted when this happens.
I can't say what all TVs call it but Samsungs you have Full-Scan which needs to be set for a full 1080p picture and Panasonics have an option called Overscan which needs to be turned off for a full 1080p picture.
Good luck.
Nearly all Samsung Blu-Ray players have Allshare play included which is like DLNA streaming; however the BD-F5900 which recently came out has Allshare Cast which allows screen mirroring like Apple Airplay. This is great deal for $129 if you were needing a Blu-Ray player and also thinking of getting the Allshare Cast Dongle from Samsung.
This Blu-Ray player is pretty slick. It has a full web browser that has Adobe Flash built in. I was really surprised when I was able to logon to hbogo.com and play HD flash content right from the website. My whole reason for wanting Allshare Cast was to stream hbogo from my phone, and now I don't even need that as the built in browser can do it. Another cool thing, I was able to plug in my wireless keyboad receiver to the usb port and use my keyboard/mouse to navigate the web browser. Pretty impressive for $129.

Yes, it mirrors exactly what you see on the note 2 screen. That is what Allshare Cast is.
Nice I will be getting one
I didn't even think of looking for something like this! Damn, I just bought a different model Samsung Blue Ray a few weeks back. Oh well, I only paid $70 add it was on sale down from $100. Guess I'll just have to use my mhl.
But the dlna capability works decent on it. I was able to stream downloaded movies with no issue. However, personal movies I recorded in full HD using the phone camera, are choppy as hell. It just stutters the whole time. I've read this is just a dlna limitation though.

I bought one of these a couple of weeks ago and it works great for Allshare Cast! It also supports many media formats via USB and was able to plug my 2TB external hard drive into it. It recognized most of the video files on there. I have a Galaxy Note 2 and it does an excellent job mirroring the screen. As far as I can tell you need to have Allshare or Miracast in order to use the DLNA features so if you ever upgrade to a non-Samsung phone or tablet I think you will lose these awesome features. I haven't found a way to link up my Asus TF700 tablet with it. If anyone knows of a way, please let me know.

I love the usb ability on my Samsung Blue Ray also. To use regular old dlna, download an app on your tablet. This one works well for me.

You can still use dlna, just won't get screen mirroring. But you can view your videos and pictures with ease, along with streaming music.

DLNA is great for use with all kinds of other dlna devices. Especially if your clever and load up XBMC I your Note2. Bam media server and, or media streaming device handheld style. With a DLNA device it all works together. Buttery media goodness.
Allshare essentially accomplishes this very easy on samsung devices. Otherwise the above will get similar results.

E5900 is last year's model. Samsung is going down the alphabet every year. This years model will all be F.
I believe most, if not all, F-series blu-ray players will support Allshare Cast (screen mirroring).
On the same note, I am having a hard time finding people's experiences with Allshare Cast / Miracast on the Samsung BD-F5900 / BD-FM59 / BD-FM59C blu-ray players. With the firmware update (v1007) I can not mirror at all with Allshare Cast (on GS3) or Miracast (on Nexus 4). I'm trying to figure out if it's me or the update.
If anyone here has any status with their device on v1007 and using Screen Mirroring, please let me know.
More about my screen mirroring issues in this thread.

Live streaming what?
Odds are if you can get your live stream in a Chrome Tab it will cast to the Chromecast(though with reduced video quality). The chromecast itself will only work with listed approved apps at the moment so odds are that without a chrome tab you will not get it tow work.

I live in the UK, so I would use it for Sky Go, Virgin TV Anywhere, and even live football streams. Would it be worth getting then?
Chrome tab casting relies on the computer to transcode what's displayed on the tab to a Chromecast-friendly format and send it over. It requires a reasonable amount of CPU horsepower for video, because the CPU is not only decompressing the Internet stream for display, it's then recompressing that to send to the Chromecast - all in real-time.
Personally I would look more toward a wireless HDMI solution that would let you connect your computer "directly" to your TV wirelessly. Of course that'll cost significantly more than Chromecast.

If it isn't something you need to do right now I'd wait until after the Dec 7/8 Google Chromecast Hackathon to see what they say about Chromecast in other countries and providers.
Unless of course there's some irresistable Black Friday or Cyber Monday deal on an HDMI transmitter...

I live in the UK mate, so the Chromecast isn't even officially out over here. I am not sure what the hold up is as some UK companies are selling it themselves, but Google aren't. I will have to wait and see what the best option is around.

Interesting... The other option is a small form-factor (SFF) PC. I have an Acer Aspire Revo R3700 as my HTPC for playing DVDs and BDs... It'll barely keep up for Flash stuff, but I do use my Chromecast a lot for HBO Go and the convenience of queuing YouTube from the couch.
I'm sure some of the UK TV providers will get on board, but they're probably waiting to see how Chromecast does over here in the states, err, colonies.
Hi,
I have buy a chromecast ultra at the airport yesterday. I have try to connect it to my TV without success.
At the first boot, I have a black screen on my TV and my android phone with google home apps saying that their is an update for my Chromecast ultra.
Now, if I make a factory reset or press the reset button I get this :
- On the TV, I can see a blue screen with Chromecast Ultra and a yellow circle. After a few seconds, the chromecast seems reboot, the screen become black and the LED on the chromecast is blinking in white.
- I can configure the chromecast using google home apps or the chrome extension. After the configuration, the screen on the TV is always black and the LED on the chromecast ultra is white and fix.
You can see all of this on the video below :
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B9YcqL1nFiDaXzBBOWRGR3A2clk
I have only one HDMI port on the TV and I don't know the manufacturer. Devices like SOny PS3 work on my TV using HDMI. I have disconnect and reconnect all but it doesn't change anything.
Google say that some old TV are not compatible with their device. Can you help me to solve the problem ?
Thanks for your help.

Yes it may be meant for 4K TVs but it should still display on lower resolutions as well.
My suggestion is to bring the unit back to where you bought it and let them test it on one of their monitors and see if they get screen.
It is very possible you just got a lemon unit.
I can't bring back the unit. I have buy it in an airport during holiday.
I test it on the new TV of a friend, I get a picture. I hope that the device can work on old TV or on TV that is not smart.
Is there a solution to make the ChromeCast Ultra compatible with my old TV ? Is there a configuration file that I can edit or an adaptator that I can put between the ChromeCast and my TV ?
Thanks,

The age of the TV doesn't matter...If it has an HDMI input then it should display in whatever resolution the TV supports.
Since it works on other TVs the only thing left is that the Input to the TV is bad.
Is there another input you can try it on?

So this is a French TV? (which could explain your problem.)
What Airport did you buy this Chromecast?
I'm going to bet that you have a SECAM TV but the CCast may only supports NTSC or PAL.
If you bought this in the US it is possible it won't support a SECAM TV but the UK version might since PAL and SECAM are very similar.
It's a combination of things working against you here...Yes the TV is a bit old and not very forgiving in what signals it will accept. coupled with the fact that France, and the Former Soviet countries were the only ones who used the SECAM standard where most of Europe uses PAL and the rest of the world uses NTSC.
The cheapest solution is probably to buy a new TV as there is no guarantee that any CCast will work with that one.
You could probably buy a PAL adapter and convert the signal but that is likely to cost as much as a new TV will.
Thanks for your answer.
I don't know if my TV is Secam or Pal. I only use it with my Sony PS3.
I have buy the ChromeCast in Australia.

The Aussie CCast is definitely PAL compatible.
I'm guessing your TV was one of the tweener models many people got stuck with in the time where SD was being phased out and Digital standards were not yet set.

Hey guys,
I'm looking to buy a Chromecast off of ebay but I'm not sure if this is ok to buy: https://www.ebay.com/itm/For-Chrome...HDMI-Media-Video-Streamer-Player/392876990895
There's no Google branding anywhere so it's obviously a knockoff but would it still allow me to mirror my phone screen via Smart View, PC desktop and browser tabs, YouTube, Spotify and Poweramp from their apps just like a legit Google Chromecast would? Would be nice if someone who's bought a similar thing shares some info. I'd like to save as much money as possible as all Google branded ones have delivery fees bigger than the device itself and in the local shops here it's around 40 euro which is still pricey.

Yeah but I'd like a way to use my TV wirelessly. DeX needs an HDMI cable. Also if I buy a Chromecast I can use wireless DeX if it comes to my Note9. Guess I'll get the real Google Chromecast as a present for my birthday in 6 months.
I just hope I can cast H265 HEVC mkv video files via VLC. I know the Chromecast 3 doesn't support it but I've read VLC converts it to H264 in real time and plays it via the Chromecast.

I use VLC and it does work with the fjrst gen chromecast but even I notice a quality different and beyond 720p I normally don't. It also could lag etc. I recently unplug my chromecast since it kept freezing playing the same movie it played the night before flawlessly. Just my experience. I have been looking at the nvidia device and wondering if it could handle casting better.
