Proximity Sensor? - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

I was on a call earlier, and I noticed yob ending the call that my face had opened up Facebook messenger. Anyone else having issues with the proximity sensor? Maybe a fluke, I don't talk on the phone much. Gonna treat it more in case I have to exchange it

There are settings for this.
Normally i have my power button to lock the screen.
But uts not always needed. If your ear is close to the sensor it will turn off the screen. But if your a few cm away it or its on am opening of your ear it will turn the screen back on.

proximity sensor problems

my screen seems to randomly turn itself on and off during calls and I sometimes press a few buttons and even close the call. and it's a bit embarrassing to admit that my phone has a problem. does anyone have a fix for it? I'm currently on jpk
end calls should not happen
the proximity sensor automatically turns off the screen to prevent accidental touch to the buttons
it takes about 1/2 second to react
if you talk normally it should never light up for you to accidentally touch the buttons
but if you keep checking why the screen is on/off on/off
that will drive the screen / sensor crazy
it was like that for me the first day
i was rather annoyed that the screen always turned off, i wanted to disable that feature, but now that i got used to it i find it rather useful to prevent accidental drop calls
personally i browse and write notes a lot during a phone call to look up info and take down customer orders
so having the screen on/off automatically was a pain in the royal highness, but i found a great solution
switch to BT headset whenever i need to check for info and browse on the phone, then it wont go on/off automtically as it's not near my face
thanks for the info!
This is a very common problem caused by positioning sensor overriding proximity sensor when the phone is placed horizontally or close to it. So if you tilt your head during a call the screen will turn on and you could disconnect/place on hold etc. I saw this feature/feature was fixed for other devices by adding an option to disable positioning sensor in calls (changing dialer.apk file), but could not find anything for i9000

Issue with Proximity Sensor. (XT1052)

Hey, I'm using Moto X 2013 Xt1052 running Lollipop 5.1, My proximity sensor is not working, I'm sure it's the proximity sensor because I used test apps and I can see it's detecting proximity all the time at a distance of 3cm.
Obviously, my biggest problem with that is that my screen goes dark when I make a call (Because the proximity sensor think the phone is near my ear). Trying to use the power button to turn on the screen didn't work so I set the power button to hangup calls (Otherwise I had to wait for the other side to hang up!).
I think the Proximity sensor has got some Hardware defect, Please help me telling a way how to disable the proximity sensor so that while placing a call the screen won't go off.
I have the same problem on my phone. It happens not always but sometimes during calls. Or when I hear a long vocal on whatsapp putting the phone on the ear.

It's very hard to disable it in software. The best way is to open up the phone and physically remove the sensor from the PCB. It's easy to chop it of with a flat screwdriver.Problem solved.

Faulty proximity sensor?

I noticed that whenever I make a phone call, I have to actually press my S10 on my ears in order to make the screen go off. It never happened on any of my phones. I also did a Sensor test with an app and it also showed me that I have to press on the upper screen instead of just floating above it.
Anyone else? Or may I have a faulty device?
I have been wrestling with Samsung and Runtastic about the proximity sensor, which no longer works on my S10 for doing push-ups. It seems that the sensor is now under the screen, and is only made active when a phone call is on. This is probably why they are having issues with the phone coming on in people's pockets. The most interesting thing is that when you do a *#0*# diagnostic and press the 'sensor' button, the proximity sensor does not even appear. On my old S7 you can cover the proximity sensor with your hand and it will vibrate and the screen will go green. Seems to be crippled functionality and a poor call from Samsung if that is the case.
Im on the opposite side.. When im making a call, a put the phone away from my ear and the screen does not turn on. Im pressing the power button to turn on the screen.
Mine when I finish the call I ended in the search for Bluetooth devices with Bluetooth on or in some cases on the call screen but with the key numbers enabled and some numbers typed, that's very annoying, even when I press the phone to my ear.
I'm using with the free case on the box maybe I will try without the case and see if the problem still there.
My model it's s10e exynos
Yeah, something is wrong with it. My screen goes dark almost immediately during phone calls, even when it's sitting on a table using the speaker. I have to press the power button to turn the screen back on each time I make a call.
Yah. When I pull the phone from my ear my screen is always black. So I have to wake the phone.
since the last update (March 1st, 2020) I've noticed that the little proximity sensor light above the battery percentage is lighting up A LOT. Is it doing this for anyone else??

{LOS 17.1} Proximity Sensor bug ? Screen shuts down and does'nt lit back when phoning

Hello I've been happily using L.O. S 7.1 for three month on my XZ1C . But It's been a few weeks that the screen turns off to black when dialling a call, before I put the phone to my ear. It doesn't lit back unless I make a long press on the screen and activate the speaker, or the keyboard icon so that the screen stays accessible while phoning. It looks like a proximity sensor bug.
I've made some tests with "Sensor Readouts app" , and the proximity sensor seems to react normally.. So I've tried to use another Dialer app, or to reinstall the Stock Phone dialer app because it's a very uncomfortable issue. BUt no success so far... Is there a way to reinitalize the Proximity sensor and/ or the Telephone app on LOS 17 /1 ?
Thanks for any hints.

Call sensor issue

I am facing the issue with a sensor while making call after oneui2.5 update.
Sometimes, the screen remains black after the call disconnected. To wake up the screen I used (double tap or power button)
After a restart, it works good. But after some time it became laggy again.
Does anyone face the same issue?
I have a quite different issue with the sensor. My screen doesn't go dark most of the times even when the phone is close to the ear. I guess there's no sensor in this phone, it also uses front camera to adjust the brightness.
Yes, the same issue when close to the ear. I don't know about the separate sensor or camera sensor.
