Getting second SIM working again - Moto G5S Plus Questions & Answers

Hi all,
I only recently got a new Moto G5s Plus from India (XT1804).
And the first thing I did was unlock the bootloader and root it, unfortunately the second thing I did was try to use Android Pay, at which time I found out that it's not supported with an unlocked bootloader.
In reverting the stock rom (as https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=73795447&postcount=37) it has obviously upset the dual SIM operation, and now I'm down to just SIM 1.
Is the XT1804 stock image available? Or any other ideas for getting the second SIM working again?
Regards,
Bevan

The only mess up happened when u ysed the commands erase modemst1 and erase modemst2.
Had same issue with oneplus2. Had tp get my motherboard replaces as I dint had the EFS backup using recovery.
I think that you will have to-
1. re install twrp and restore your efs if you have a backup,
2. if (1) dosent work, try flashing the available NON_HLOS.bin . {Practically itwould do little help}.
3. wait untill moto releases a firmware with updated modem ( NON-HLOS.bin ) file as it usually has the data stored in modemst1 and
modemst2
4. Relock bootloader and go to the service center. dont mention that u unlocked the bootloader . if they ask, simply deny.
PS -
1. Android Pay isnt yet available in INDIA
2. I hope that when you dial *#06#, u see IMEI1=some value and IMEI2=0

Thanks,
Yeah I guess I'll have to wait for the Oreo update later in the year.
I'm in Australia, which is why Android Pay works.
On doing the *#06# I do actually get two IMEI numbers reported, and I have actually had the second SIM work just recently, so maybe things aren't all so bad.
But it almost seems like it's not using all the bands available in AU (which pretty much matches the bands used in India, although AU has LTE B42 also).
I guess this is part of the modem flash.
So I'd just need the modem stuff from an Indian phone?
I guess I'll check what bands are reported and go from there.
Thanks again.

Dear @bevanweiss,
As both of your IMEI's are intact, I don't believe that its any problem with your phone. your phone is totally fine
I highly recommend you to try switching your sim 1 (putting sim1 as sim2 and sim 2 as sim1)
Moto G has 4G support on both slots however, only 1 slot at a time can stay on 4g.
I say this, because in India , we have a service provider (Reliance Jio) who only provides 4G and no 2g or 3 g bands.
When I first booted up my phne with jio sim in slot 1 and vodafone india sim in slot 2, the voda sim got registered 1st and even though jio sim was in slot 1, it did not have any network. Even if i change prefered network type of sim 2 to 2g or 3g, there was no choice (option) to select 4g on sim 1 as 4g option was still visible in sim 2 settings.
Solution that i used,-
1.removed both sims and inserted just jio sim in slot 1 and rebooted.
2.set it (Jio sim 1) as 4g,
3.pulled out the tray and added voda to sim2
I will be really glad if any of these details help you.
I recommend you to backup your EFS partition asap.

How to Sim Unlock HTC One 802d Cdma-GSM?? Need help urgently

Hi guys,
I'm from indonesia, I bought HTC 802d in china last week. Before buying, i asked the sales person specifically if both the CDMA and GSM are unlocked. They said yes they are unlocked. I only brought my roaming GSM card and it worked just fine. Didnt bring my CDMA sim.
Came back to jakarta, put in CDMA sim and it said no service. FYI, i checked the cdma freq between indonesia and china, and they share the same frequency. So, i guess that the Sim 1 CDMA slot is being carrier locked by China Telecom.
I had followed all the intructions thats available in XDA, from unlocking bootloader, flashing recovery found on chinese web, installing ROM from chinese web, got my blinkfeed working in english, facebook & twitter also worked. Even perform S-Off using moonshine.
However, the sim1 slot is still showing "No Service".
Please help me with your expert advice. I need to get the CDMA working as soon as possible as the GSM part is only running on 2G and its internet is sooooooooo slowwwwwww....:crying::crying::crying::crying:

I doubt I can help, here in the USA the CDMA is never locked and doesn't use a SIM card. On this side of the pond, only GSM uses a sim card. The CDMA phones that have a sim card here, is because the 4G LTE technology is a GSM, so their sim card is for LTE only.

Actually the above worked for me. After rooting and editing the build.prop the phone can connect to a CDMA network in Indonesia just fine. The only eyesore is that the carrier name doesn't show, it only shows its carrier code.

I'm in China at the moment and ended up picking up one of these today (HTC DESIRE 609d) which i was told was unlocked. 1 Sim card however seems to be locked to china telecom.
You managed to remove the lock? So I need to find a special DEV rom? if so could you please send me a link or point me in the right direction? Im a bit of a noob...
Cheers, Phil.
Hi guys! I also unlocked 1-st slot but it works only GSM card. my cdma R-UIM not work for this slot. Befor unlocking first slot I edited device nam settiongs with DFS. When I put GSM card to slot one and select cdma mode, phone use setting from device and pick up signal. but not incoming and outgoing calls (because there is no registered number to carrier). But in the DFS I choose "Only R-UIM" but phone not read the R-uim card. How can I unlock first slot to use my carrier R-uim card. (my carrier PerfectumMobile-Uzbekistan)

[Q] HELP!!!!!!!! Make Verizon DROID 3 use any Service Provider SIM Card...

I live in Malaysia and I got the phone through an aunt who lives in U.S . She gave it to me 4 months ago because it was too sophisticated for her.
I manage to bypass the code request and signed in with m Google account and the phone is now accessible but when I try to insert a local SIM card( Maxis ) it doesnt recognize the sim and the phone locks back again. I lost my old phone and would be pleased if someone cant help me root it.
**I have tried to use Pete's One click root and installed the End-User Software from Motorola and the Root app doesnt recognize my phone when I connected it..
Does rooting make it unlocked and how to root if it does.
Hope someone can help me solve my problems..
Thank You

You must get a SIM unlock code from a 3rd party or Verizon. Check ebay or unlock4moto or similar service. There's a selection of Droid 3s that CANNOT be unlocked by 3rd party code, this was a problem with the Droid 2 Global as well. If a 3rd party code does not work, you MUST get an unlock code from Verizon. Rooting does NOT SIM unlock the phone.

And you will want to run the XT883 rom after you unlock and root your phone as well. If you explain to Big Red (VZW) what you are doing they will be more than happy to unlock it for you as it was for me. I was in AFG with both my D2G and D3 and had no issues unlocking them at all.

Not true, the stock radio and ROM will work in Non-US 'foreign' GSM networks. The XT883 Radio is required for AT&T/T-Mobile/Other US GSM networks. The XT883 ROM is not required for anything outside of any enhancements it may hold over the stock XT862 ROM.
For US GSM networks; it only requires the XT883 radio and modified build.prop to read the radio. For a foreign network (you mentioned Malaysia) just getting the SIM unlock code and unlocking the device should work. After unlock, input required APN settings for data/MMS and you should be good to go.

[Q] any rom for my phone ?

hello guys
i ask my salf why i dont type in this forum about my problem mybe i get some help here
my phone are locked sim card any new rom unlocked sim card ?
iam from kingdom of bahrain
i buy lg g2 verizon vs980 from internet
imei : 990002594173666
imeisv : 00
and still cant use it in bahrain
i hop you help me how to change it or give me some rom unlocked sim card i dont want many orders only unlocked sim card please help noob guy
thanks for leasen my question and trying to help me
The LG G2 is NOT a SIM/carrier locked device, no recent Verizon Global device is, even if it was there is no ROM that can fix that, that information is not touchable by flashing a ROM.
Insert your SIM, setup the APN settings, and make sure it is set to Global or GSM/UMTS, reboot, and you should be good to go, the only thing you will get is an unrecognized SIM error on the lock screen and notification pull down, but it works fine. People are are using the vs980 on a host of GSM carriers around the world.

[Q] Republic Wireless Reality Check

I've researched a ton of threads and I think I have facts straight but would like confirmation from the community. Republic Wireless KitKat 4.4.2
I can:
1. Unlock bootloader with Sunshine.
2. Flash TWRP using mfastboot.
3. Root using TWRP
Continue using RW service
OR I can:
Perform steps 1&2 then
3. Flash the GE Rom
4. Edit to select and enable GSM
5. Install a T-Mo sim
Use T-Mo service (no LTE)
I'm a bit fuzzy still if I would need to carrier unlock somehow in the second scenario.
Has anyone successfully converted an RW phone to GSM? Am I on the right track? What have I over-simplified or overlooked?
It looks right.
Take a look at the first two posts in -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/guide-success-sim-unlock-sprint-xt1056-t2825155 for SIM/Carrier unlocking.

Yes.
I've been SIM unlocked for several months, courtesy of @samwathegreat as per http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/guide-success-sim-unlock-sprint-xt1056-t2825155
I started with RW Moto X XT1049. Bootloader unlocked via "China Middleman", since Sunshine was not yet available. Flashed TWRP, rooted, installed Carbon ROM. Did SIM unlock as per above. At some point I flashed the full T-Mobile 4.4.4 stock ROM, including baseband., although this was not necessary. Was successfully using T-Mobile for 2-3 months, but I found coverage to be spotty, and in particular many areas where I got only EDGE (since no band IV), so I switched to Cricket, with much better results.
Thanks KidJoe and ejlmd for your responses. Good to know this phone is not forever tied to RW and Sprint, as some on their forums insist. I was especially glad for confirmation the GSM capability is present and useable. That does not seem to be widely known outside this forum.
I face the same issues with T-Mo coverage. I actually just used them as an example. If (or when) I switch it will probably be to an AT&T MVNO.

Yes. Now I am on 4.4.4, but bootloader unlocked via China middleman when I was on 4.4.2.
thanks @ejlmd for the information
Just found out that I got accepted to study abroad and want to take my RW Moto X with me rather than buying a new phone. Does Sunshine work with 4.4.4? Would 3G/LTE Data work? (The LTE is 800/1800/2600 Mhz and bands 20/3/7 while 3G is 900/2100 MHz bands 8/1)
Jherbold, did you ever get your plan to work?
Sunshine does NOT work on 4.4.4.
I believe the RW XT1049 is sim LOCKED also. If so, you can't use the SIM from another carrier in the phone.

Yes, it is SIM locked. Some have successfully unlocked it and installed ROMs from other carriers that worked with non-RW SIMs. But not with 4.4.4.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54338871&postcount=2
Additionally, per a post I saw from someone @ RW, if you are using the RW ROM and app it is unlikely that the foreign SIM will be able to work even if you were SIM unlocked due to the way the SIP/VOIP implementation works; the SIM is only used to access the LTE data network.

Yes, but if you read that thread, RW users must first flash the Sprint SBF, and that requires the phone to be bootloader unlocked.
Republic Wireless phones are bootloader LOCKED, Moto doesn't give out the unlock code for RW, the China Middleman has been gone for sometime, and Sunshine doesn't work on 4.4.4, so the bootloader can't be unlocked, hence I didn't suggest following that thread to SIM unlock when khabibul35 asked, (but I did in Post #2 of this thread when replying to the OP because there were options to unlock the bootloader back then).

Well, "someone @ RW" might be telling you how it works on THEIR network... They usually wont help you getting THEIR PHONES working on SOMEONE ELSE's service.
Example: Verizon, primarily uses CDMA/EVDO for Voice, SMS/MMS and 3G data, and SIM for LTE. Verizon's Support will admit that their phone is SIM unlocked, and can be used for Global GSM roaming, yet they will tell you it wont work on domestic (USA) carriers. But it does. Many users, including myself, have put non-Verizon GSM SIM in our XT1060, and they work just fine. (in my case I've put T-Mobile and ATT sims in).
Until you SIM unlock the Sprint XT1056, it wont work on non-Sprint GSM providers, hence the excitement in that thread. Many Non-Sprint customers are using XT1056's that have been SIM unlocked now, that Sprint says can't be used on another carriers SIM. If you read that thread, there are those with RW doing the same thing (if they were able to unlock their bootloader, and follow that process)

Force device to update carrier settings SM-G781U

Hello, I'm not a developer; I've never dealt with a rooted device, but Google, Samsung, Verizon and other sources were no help, so I'm here now.
I got a Samsung S20 FE from my old workplace which was previously locked to the ATT network. I am a Verizon customer so I wanted to switch over and I purchased an unlock code from cellunlocker.net. I've reached out to Cellunlocke, but they say the unlock was successful as it is connecting to the VZW network.
I did a factory reset on the phone, put in the Verizon Sim card, and used the network unlock code provided. The unlock said it was successful, but the phone powered on with the ATT logo and downloaded all the ATT factory apps. When I go into the phone dialer settings, it shows ATT video calling, etc... The phone software version shows ATT in the service provider sw version. But it makes calls, texts, etc. and the network settings show it's connected to VZW. The problem is, that it can't access my voicemail or use wifi calling because it's set with the ATT apps and features.
I've tried removing the sim, power cycling, factory resetting, even calling Verizon and asking them to resync the phone to the network. When the sim card is installed in the new phone, VZW shows the S20 as my device, but the phone still thinks it is on the ATT settings. I've viewed the Service Menu *#0011# and it shows that the phone is unlocked.
The phone is showing a service provider software version of
SAOMC_SM-G781U_OYN_ATT_12_0012
ATT/ATT/ATT
Is there any way to force the phone to reset its carrier settings or service provider software? Also, please keep it somewhat simple; I'm learning but not an expert here!
about the only wise thing you can do is download and XAA U1 firmware (Samsung non carrier firmware) flash that with Odin and call it good.
you're getting what you're seeing because the phone won't be able to switch to Verizon firmware as Verizon actually have their own unique version of the FE SM-G781V I believe with physical differences for Verizon's mmwave 5G and the U model can't reset itself to that.

So which firmware version do I need? The model printed on the phone is SM-G781u. SamMobile has 781O, B, U, U1, and V for the 781 model.
I'd love to have it without the bloatware Verizon installs, but I need Wifi calling to work and it seems to be a setting in the dialer, rather than the phone.

flashing V would be a bad idea, 5G wouldn't work, at least not well. so that leaves U1 which is Samsung unbranded, no carrier apps at all.

I'm looking at the instructions for flashing the device and the instructions say to turn on OEM Unlocking in developer options. I've activated developer options and USB debugging, but do not have the option to turn on OEM Unlocking.
I can't seem to find a way to unlock the bootloader.

to the best of my knowledge you don't need to be unlocked in order to flash signed, official Samsung firmware. many Americans have cross-flashed their phones and none of them could unlock either.
you're just booting into download and opening Odin, it's not much more than that.

Awesome, a flash using ODIN seems to have worked; the phone is active and not showing any carrier apps or splash screen. I'm having some other issues; can you suggest which firmware combo would be best?
I used Sammobile.com SM-G781U1 with Country Code USA (Verizon) (VZW)
OR I also downloaded Frija SM-G781U1 with CSC of XAA
Will I notice any major differences in them, or just try each one and check it out?
I am in the US, using the Verizon network. We do not have 5g in the area but the phone and our verizon plan is 5G capable and I would like the option if it exists somewhere I travel to.
I am in the UK, I shouldn't be telling you anything about what firmware is gonna be best over there.
other than U1 XAA I can't tell you much. also be aware that generally you can never downgrade your firmware unless it has the same bootloader version as what you're currently using...
if we were looking at my firmware version number G781BXXU4FVE6
I can only flash something that has a matching 5th last character, that's a 4 in this case. I can only download and flash older firmware if it also has a 4 in the same place in the build number. the phone won't accept anything else.
Sammobile is good for seeing what firmware exists but it's terrible for download speeds. I use Frija mainly but that only gives me the latest version nothing historical.
@3mel thank you for all your help! I've got this device working well on the U1 software and didn't have to reflash it; the rest of my issues resolved. Thanks for your patience in helping this newbie do things to a phone I never would have attempted otherwise!
