I'm using nova launcher and the android O black theme, is there any way to make the notifications panel black as well? I'm not rooted
only possible with custom samsung themes. for example Coffee theme
A mixture of Samsung themes and substratum / pitch black.
Or just a simple layer, Substratum still can't theme the notification panel dark.

I've talked to the dev of Swift dark and he says not yet on unrooted devices, maybe soon. Even with substratum the notification panel is white. I know it's dark but I prefer it over a glaring white screen.

Did you reboot after installing the apk? Right now there is no white text on a dark background for the notification panel with layers or substratum. What I posted is the original!

Really need a new sound setup. These sounds for the keyboard etc are not in my opinion, very good. If you can post good themes preferely based off of Lollipop, would be great.

On my opinion that's called black material. Dark material is more like grey Like dark theme here in XDA (which is the best!!)
But there is at Android Themes section "Official MEGA CM12 Theme Engine Thread" where is listed all CM12 themes so far http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/themes/0-official-mega-cm12-theme-engine-t3006466

Agreed, wish they'd use different naming (same with some of the zip themes for some roms before theme engine). Not bashing all the developers hard work (I do commend them for all they've done and mean no disrespect), but using Google's material theme guidelines these are neither dark (grey) nor material (a colorful UI). Using the guidelines this is more how dark material should look like, hopefully it will come out as a CM12 theme!
I'll leave this here http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/themes/0-official-mega-cm12-theme-engine-t3006466

I tried that but I don't like how its "grey" and not true black. When my brightness is higher it looks ugly as does the red one.
I'm still looking for a true black theme which I haven't seen. Some are close but they don't have the reboot menu or other small things which is annoying because you go from pure black to bright white.

yes you can try that but mostly pitch black don't apply to whole system UI . I would suggest to theme apps and to match the black concept choose dark mode under settings-display-theme-dark .

Also, most of these will work except for the nav bar height. It will take some time as they're spread out all through the thread. These are for the S8+ and I'm using several on my Note 8, as I said all but the nav bar height should work.

Substratum can't do that yet, I have a couple of layers that can - one with blue and the other with red.
Are there any substratum themes that are free for our note 8?

So glad someone brought this up, as the only one I could find was Swift Dark. I chose the tab for Samsung devices and Swift Dark was my only option to purchase. Waste of money as it currently stands since my current theme dark high contrast from the would you believe it Samsung theme store works just as good if not better. Substratum is hyped up in imho or immature for the N8.
My take, rubbish.
Edit: shouldn't have said "rubbish" , but inadequate at this time.

I'm just using the samsung themes at this point; there are a few that are pretty nice, and until there is a BL unlock/full root for this phone, I wont bother with Substratum at this point..had it installed with a couple of the themes that supposedly work on this phone, but it borked gmail, play store and a couple of others, so off it went..
Its too bad, since I have bought around 20 or more subs themes in the past, so hopefully it will be fixed down the road.
This phone just came out, so its a matter of patience for now..

When you mention working with Samsung, one still has to avoid selecting certain options during installation of the overlays right ? Meaning I cannot merely select all after choosing S8 in the pull down menu without running the risk of bootloops?
In summary, which options should one not check for installation for those you linked on your post? Or are the Samsung specific ones all bootloop free.? Cheers

I've used all, just select S8, except for the nav bar. I use another for that. Haven't had any bootloops and have been using them from day one. If you do have issues you just need to boot into safe mode and uninstall the overlay and you're back in business. The ones specifically for Samsung should be okay but the others probably not. Here's a new onr, I haven't tried it yet as I have mine setup just the way I like it.
