I thought i bought a new Samsung note 8, but someone gave me a new note 8 in retail mode
How can i delete thuis retail mode?
Can i root the Note 8, install a custom ROM so retail mode is gone. Please help me
Download BK package disabler in the play store and disable Samsung demo mode. Mine is called Verizon Store Demo mode in system.
Realy that easy?
I highly suspect your Note8 might have been stolen from a store, and the seller had scammed you. There's a high chance that it's a "Live Demo Unit", the model in this case would theoretically be SM-N950X (according to a YouTube video I watched, linked at the end of this post)
Those are models specifically intended for retail demos, and as such, do not have cellular radios, only a fake one simulated in the demo software.
Here's the video I just mentioned. I know it's the S7 in this video, but I just wanted to get the point across. Samsung Live Demo Units can never be used as phones.
Edit: My guess is that LDUs are normally intended to be returned to Samsung after some time, like for example, when a new Galaxy device comes out.
Might be that it's been placed into demo mode, look under settings-->developer options--> demo mode

Probably a STOLEN one from a shop!
These phons aren't for customers; return the unit to the seller you bought it from!
not sure but i think you should be able to ODIN an official firmware, that should get it to stock

What is this Custom Blocker app, like how do you get it? Do certain carriers install it? This is the first I've heard of it so I searched. I'd be pissed if that came installed on my phone. Totally different from demo mode.

If it's an N950X, you won't be able to flash any other ROM onto it.

MDM agent is blocking your factory reset. Either this is a store model, like everyone has stated, or someone installed the MDM agent prior to giving you the phone. Without knowing who installed the MDM agent it is impossible to remove unless you can gain root access to it, and even then the MDM agent may block the root access ability or brick the phone if it detects root.
I'd say either way, return it if possible.

should i use ANTIvirus and ANTI malware?

should i have something similar on my android phone?
This should not be necessary as long as you don't use any files from unknown sources. For example only use the market to install applications, only copy files from your pc to your phone (they will be scanned on your pc), and as usual be careful for attachments in your mailbox. Check where they come from and if you receive "sexy girls.bat" from anyone (even a friend) don't open it...
You can always connect phone in mass storage mode and run kaspersky on the two memory cards .

I'm resurrecting this thread since I read the article on here about dodgy virus market apps

if so whats good or are there any free ones?

i use 'MyLookout' its a free app (also a paid version) and everytime something new is put onto the phone, MyLookout will automatically scan it for malware, its a really good app.
also another advantage of this app, is you can do backups to the cloud.
And another thing. If your device was to go missing, you can simply log on to the website MyLookout.com from your PC or another Phone, there you can switch on GPS, track the Phone down, perform a full wipe, lock the device, Sound an alarm on the phone which cannot be turned off.
and the best feature, is you can select an option so the app will not uninstall, so the thief who took your phone, cannot uninstall the app. Meaning you can always keep tracking it down
you can do all this from any PC / Mobile
Dr Web antivirus light is nice too

No just don't install sketchy apps.
Then again I don't use AV on my PC's either...it has proven useless in the past as it doesn't keep up with the attackers quickly enough. These days I go with a 'perimeter defense', keep the hostile code from running on the machine in the first place rather than running every damn thing and counting on some program to be current enough to save me.
Kaspersky Mobile Security is the best
Though i'm not using it right now.
I use lookout and find it excellent, though as others rightly say your phone is not nearly as vulnerable as your pc and by following common sense behaviour you should be totally fine. Give lookout a try as it includes lost phone detection and wiping too.

Why should I care about malware when I flash the phone every two weeks!!
(sometimes less time)
I don't, because I want to maintain maximum performance and battery life. Plus I'm not sure how effective any of the products are.
I must say though, I am a lot more careful about reading permissions and installing untested apps these days, after reading about the droid-dream malware etc.
nipip: lol true, same here
What about NetQin
Galaxy S XWJVB
And where to get kaspersky from? its not in the market
Galaxy S XWJVB
I use Lookout and have been very happy with it. Sure it may be a placebo at this moment. But as smartphones become the net access tool of choice for more people, malware will get worse as time goes by.
Plus I feel those people who say they can avoid trouble on their phones and even PCs by just not downloading "dodgy" code are massively underestimating the asshats out there and the ways that harmful code can be hidden. If you open a PDF or even a website, you ARE vulnerable.

Upon some investigation (and a few reboots), I found out the culprit: MyKNOX.
I happen to be one of the few N4 users that do use KNOX for what it is intended, and I have installed MyKNOX and have a working container.
According to Samsung:
If you are using My KNOX, you cannot enable USB debugging mode while the container is installed.

So, if you run into the same trouble with a Galaxy S5 our Note 4, and haven't figured out yet why you can't enable USB Debugging, know that it is a trade off: you use your phone either for KNOX or for development, but not both.
Useful to know. Thanks
why are you using myknox ? Samsung gives you knox express with 250 users free - much more functionality than myknox and it has proper device tracking/remote wipe/policy enforcement.

Great help, cracked my head for two days on why i couldn't enable usb debugging.
Huge thank you. I have a Note 5 and had the same issue where I could not turn on USB debugging because it was grayed out. It worked before (I need it so I can use Helium to backup my apps), never thought MyKnox would disable it. Uninstalled and I can now turn it on.
Thank you!!!

Well, I just found thid out tonight as I wanted to enable it and it is greyed out..... I am using Knox so I am stuffed....
this is the correct answer. knox disables usb debugging and greys out the option.
so simple. the reason why you had gray scale in usb debugging after enabling the developer mode, its because of myknox. i have encountered the same problem but i able to fix it. to fix your problem just follow my instructions.
1. go to my.samsungknox dot com (use laptop or pc)
2. login your account by entering the email and password you had registered in your samsung account phone.
3. a several option will appear. just click UNLOCK and UNREGISTERED your phone option. then your myknox will automatically uninstalled in your phone. (make sure your phone has a connection)
4. go back to developer option after myknox has been removed automatically, then you can enabled the usb debugging now.
thats it. i fix mine. 100%. dont forget to say thanks once you fixed yours. have a nice day.
Thanks for the explanation.
BUT, The above procedure did not rectify the situation on my S7 Edge. USB Debugging is still grayed out!
On your settings, go to Developer options and disable OEM unlock, Reboot and Done
Please tell me ways to unlock USB debugging grayed out in Android tv
Hi Folks,

Firstly, let's get the most important bit out of the way, since we are on the XDA forums, as you can see from the photos below, the OnePlus 7 Pro 6/128GB on Three.co.uk can be unlocked right out of the box, thankfully something OnePlus probably asked of them, just as they did with O2 with previous generations.
The method is the same as it's always been
As with all processes like this BACKUP YOUR DATA BEFORE YOU START
Enable developer settings by tapping build number (in Settings>About phone) 7 times, enter pin
Go to Settings>System>Developer Options>OEM unlocking and enable, acknowledge the warning
Install the included drivers on your computer by attaching USB cable and setting USB mode to "File Transfer, the drive with the OnePlus drivers should appear, if not I remembered to upload them to my AFH account here, just unpack the zip and install.
Open a command window with administrator rights and run adb devices, acknowledge the prompt on your phone, run adb reboot bootloader to reboot into the bootloader or just enabled advanced reboot in your developer options and reboot to bootloader.
In your command window type fastboot oem unlock and the prompt in the image above will be shown, use the volume keys/power button to select to unlock the bootloader (REMEMBER YOUR PHONE WILL BE WIPED WITH FACTORY RESET, YOU WILL LOSE ANY FILES ON IT SO BACKUP BEFORE YOU START. You will also ALWAYS get a warning stating the device may not be safe when you start it up, this was forced by Google on manufacturers.
Once the phone reboots you will need to perform your setup again
Delivery was by DPD, they provide an hour delivery slot via both e-mail and sms, bizarrely though, the Three.co.uk rep confirmed, when I called them as I hadn't yet had the delivery confirmation, that the text message would be sent to my new number, which was using the sim, which was in the box being delivered :silly:
The box wasn't too healthy when it arrived but this is what you'll get from Three.co.uk in your package:
When you open up your sim card it will come in a triple snappable design as below, as you can see you want the nano option :
The box contents are the same as the other models, including the case included in the box, here it is on with the grey back, it almost makes it look more silvery in person :
I really need OnePlus to provide a longer charging cable, I'm surprised more people don't complain about this but the cable they provide is comically (although it's not funny) short, it barely makes it from my socket to my desk and the sockets are underneath/behind the desk, the length really is ridiculous.
OxygenOS 9.5.4 was prompted right after I completed setup so my rooting/unlocking/etc was done on this version.
I've installed the rooted and booted image from this excellent thread and as you can see, after following the instructions from the thread, I now have an unlocked bootloader, latest Magisk and BusyBox Pro installed only hours after receiving the device. This provider and option may make a tasty little dev device with that combo:
From my initial tests (including one especially for dladz ) the GPS performance is excellent (That test was indoors on my first floor), Antutu is...a good score? I dunno, I don't really benchmark bruh but the Antutu Benchmark was after I had unlocked the bootloader and rooted with the Magisk guide from the thread mentioned above. No other custom kernel or modification was used apart from that listed above.
Someone else with a different model could possibly do the Antutu benchmark for comparison, with this score, specifically the memory score, I would imagine it will be higher with more capacity.
As someone had asked elsewhere, Voice over Wifi was enabled automatically out of the box and is still enabled for me :
The popup camera isn't as intrusive as you would think and is smaller than you might think, bare in mind all the YouTube reviews had the phone in your face, when you're holding it the popup camera seems a lot smaller, face unlock is still fast but obviously not as fast as previous OnePlus phones without this mechanism.
What I don't like?
The USB cable as I mentioned above.
You cannot register the same finger more than once, this was possible on the previous FP readers and helped with detection, I'm not sure why this was done.
OnePlus has removed the option to long press the back button for recents (Personal preference maybe but why?)
The new swiping gestures you can use instead of nav bar don't work at all well with the included case, goodbye fingertips
The vibration motor does feel stronger but the typing feedback feels like someone tapping the back of the phone, something that can be tweaked in the settings probably.
The curve of the screen makes tapping on some options, especially in the settings toggles a bit tricky.
Granted most of those are teething issues with this new device.
If you want me to try something else or confirm other information, let me know.
Lovely. Good review.. Thanks mate
Great review ?
I'm using the gestures as well and with the case which was in the box and for me the gestures work really well! I needed some time to get used to though, but I have no complains here.
Just another update, someone else had asked about pre-installed apps from Three and sadly there are a couple:
Netflix (Shows an uninstall option but doesn't uninstall, haven't tried with root but that should work I would guess)
"Three", presumably an app to administer your account (That can be installed from the Play Store so shouldn't really have been forced) It has an uninstall option.
"Three Likes", also shown on the Play Store but can be uninstalled easily.
Wuntu, God knows what that is, funky teen community app?
That's about it, nothing too intrusive or bloaty.
Hey buddy,
Thanks for this!
I bought the 8gb model from John Lewis. It prompted me to install Three Likes but quickly uninstalled. For your reference, Wuntu is their discount apps so every now and again you can get a free Costa, personal Domino's pizza, free credit with Ratukin and stuff like that so it's good to have actually.
On the VoWiFi, it works on my phone too (out of the box without needing to use the workaround), but after my phone has been asleep for a while or I leave WiFi and come back, VoWiFi drops out and won't return until I reboot my phone. Any chance you can keep a particular eye out for this to see if it happens to you?
VoLTE works perfectly out of the box which is abig upgrade for Three users from previous OnePlus phones so happy about that.

Because my friend had 8 gb ver, and daily usage of his memory ram is 5.8gb In normal usage, not while rendering or gaming. So I'm curious about 6gb ver, did it consume that much too??

I have founded this on a dumpster a couple of months ago, I made a post on Reddit and somebody suggested that I should post it here. This is a demo device (The ones that you can found at a BestBuy, for example)
This device has a couple of interesting things:
It's an Android tablet, you can actually install normal apps on it, Fun Fact: you can't install the google play services (Play Store and all that stuff), that crash the "tablet" immediately. The "tablet" has a pre-installed app that runs the demos.
The thing on the right is an actual, 100% "working" google home mini, but it looks like it has a demo firmware, so the USB cable actually connects to the tablet, and that's how the device answers to the woman in the video while playing the demo.
But there is MORE!
This thing can actually flash a firmware to the google home mini!
This was taken from the official manual that you can find online (search for outform modular demo):
Step 4. Insert the USB flash drive into the connector. Do not press any buttons on the device. After 4-5 minutes the LEDs on the device turn green or red. Green indicates that the procedure has been completed successfully and red indicates the operation has failed. If the operation has failed, remove the USB and try again.

I was wondering if we can use this to recover dead Google Homes, I will just need the firmware file to try it.
If somebody is interested in the APK or wants more information about this device, let me know!
I have made a little video on YouTube booting the device, but since my account is new it won't let me post it, so here is the video ID: watch?v=_ZPx8uIjvgk
TL;DR
Founded a device that possibly can flash firmware to Google Home devices, need help finding a firmware file to try.

Hi! Yes, this is like an Android tablet, I have done a little more research and it looks like the Tablet doesn't have anything to do with flashing the device, It looks like the the flashing is managed on a different PCB, under the Google Home Mini base, I will upload APK when I get home if you want to see what can you discover.
Edit: Can't post links, I will send you a PM
Is this a first or second-generation Google home mini? I just got a 2nd gen to try and hack on it and was wondering if this would be useful information
Also, how is the home connected to the pad? Mine doesn't seem to have any USB ports or anything.
Hello, im am interested in: This thing can actually flash a firmware to the google home mini! Any chance it might work on an insignia google assistant speaker? Either way would you provide me with a link to get the software please?
How can I get my Hands on the software to Flash a google home mini. Purchased as a birthday gift according to googles online support team its bricked (probly did a firmware update then it either failed/lost network/lost power) which bricked the device. Google told me they do not have any stores in South Africa and I should return it to the reseller in SA. Contacted the reseller and they refusing to now replace it saying google should fix it. All I want is a working device so if I Could reflash it myself would be super helpful as I am stuck with a non working google home mini!
Please if anyone has the above mentioned software I would really appriciate it

Initial question - have you uninstalled / disabled anything using ADB?
Enabling and disabling NFC is done with the quick settings toggle.
If you don't see this toggle, try using the EDIT button to see if the toggle is hidden and then bring it up into quick settings.
In the settings, NFC is located under "Connection & sharing"
If for whatever reason you don't see these, there is an issue with your device. I tried googling around and found no mention about Realme 8 not having NFC. Region-specific versions very rarely differ in NFC/WIFI/Bluetooth/GPS functionality, they mostly come with different bloatware and antennas.
I'm from Europe, so my European version came with minimal Realme bloatware and all of it could be uninstalled without needing to use ADB.
Also try uploading screenshots of the "About phone" tab, if someone more knowledgeable tries to help you, this info might be useful to them.

If you don't see this toggle, try using the EDIT button to see if the toggle is hidden and then bring it up into quick settings.

I'm sorry about that. Realme website also has no mention of NFC on the indian version, but it does on my european version, along with more FDD-LTE supported bands.
Interestingly, the build number and hardware version are the same as my device, I would think atleast 1 of those would be different.
Also weird is that you can search for NFC and actually get results, to me it seems like the NFC chip is present, but is for whatever reason disabled on software level. If this would be true, rooting the device might allow you to enable it, but you would need someone way more knowledgeable than me to help you.
