Stuck on optimizing system storage and applications screen - 7" Kindle Fire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Here is the deal, I bought an Fire HD 7'' (5th Gen) like a year ago for 49 bucks and use it like one time, then I put it on a drawer for the whole year, now I want to use it again as a dedicated remote control to my media center, but now it won't turn on, all I get is this startup screen with the text: "Optimizing system storage and applications..." it loops and loops, its been hours and is the same, I even tried to use differents cables and no luck, so how do I fix this? could be died the battery? any help would be greatly appreciated.
UPDATE:
After some more testing and finally be able to enter recovery mode and factory reset the tablet, I was able to boot and setup everything again, and now I know the battery is dead and it won't charge, so not using a battery for a year is worst than actually using the battery for a year, who would have thought!

Kindle Fire HD 7 Shuts Down Randomly

Bought a Kindle Fire HD 7 (first gen) back about 2 years ago. Has worked fine until a few months ago when my wife noticed it would randomly shut off. Battery could be 60,70,80 or even higher % charged. Once it would shutoff it would rarely boot up unless plugged into a charger for a while. Has anyone else had this issue?
I should mention it did this with untouched Kindle OS and also has done it with CM11.
Im wondering if this is just a hardware issue or if this is something that can be resolved via software/troubleshooting. There isnt anything important on the tablet so i can wipe/install as needed.
Any help would be great. Thanks

I'm thinking after two years your battery may be at the end of it's rope. You might try replacing it.
Thanks for the input. So last night i charged it to 100% and used a battery calibration app. Took it off the charger and started running stuff to keep the screen on and use the battery. Got to about 70% and it randomly shutoff. Tried booting into TWRP and was in for about a min before another shutdown. Was unable to start it up, would get to the CM load animation then it would die.
Then i did something either stupid or genius. I hit it a couple times and shook it. While doing this i tried turning it on and it booted. However after a few mins of use it wold shutdown. Did this a couple times where it would only turn on if i was shaking or "flexing" it. So this led me to believe this must be a hardware issue.
I decided to open up the back and make sure nothing seemed loose. Pulled the back off, unscrewed the battery and pulled out one end but not all the way out. Pulled some various connecting cables including wifi cable and plugged them back in. I booted with the back off sitting flat on a table and it ran without issue playing back a movie for at least 30 mins. I then put the back o and pulled up google maps and had that on/screen on for at least another 30 mins, occasionally pivoting and zooming in and out. That got me to about 45-50% battery.
I plugged it in to charge over night and will see if it now will behave. Im hoping it was just something loose. Will report back, Thanks
My best friend is having this same issue, and I was hoping if your findings have been positive. If so, we may do like you did and hopefully solve the issue.

[Q] is it bricked?

hi, my nook hd was left on the charger over night. This morning I got up to find it had rebooted over night and got stuck at the 99%. It wouldnt power off nor would it rest .
Now the screen has gone off and it wont do anything. Is it dead?
This is the worst device I have ever owned , I am never going to buy another B&N device you spend hours maintaining it just to get basic functions.
I finally got it to boot when the battery discharged but had to do do a factory rest . Now I cant reinstall any of my apps because google play says No eligible devices for app install.
I hate this thing well its coming up to 12 months at xmas so it will be out of warranty . time to get rid of this POS and get something that works without all this messing around.

[Q] Moto G 2014 - boot loop, next step

Hi, got a Moto G 2014, bought from new in October
Always had minor problems with it, especially including touchscreen going fuzzy/unusable when used with a particular charger, at low battery levels (although this isn't the one it was being used with most recently).
Recently apps have been crashing a bit more etc, quite annoying. Cleaned all caches etc today. Thought that there's a decent amount of space on the phone now so should download an app to make more of the phone - downloaded Fifa 15 which is a 1GB install.
Fell asleep during the install, woke up, and the phone was on boot loop. Didn't have a clue what was going on so I just tried to turn it on and off. Vaguely remembered something about power button and volume down, got to fast boot (I think it's called) with the normal boot, recovery etc options, tried both of those and they didn't work.
Put it on a different charger, somehow miraculously it turns up as '15%' charge stage, after a while, which it never did before. Charging now and it's reached 45%, in fairly normal time.
What's my next step? Turn it on? Or is there some way of recovering the files on the phone memory without turning it on?
edit: I mean is there some way of recovering phone files without attempting to turn it on, andd see it go into bootloop again, possibly
okay so turned it on when it had reached 100% battery, and it basically just goes back to boot loop ffs

[Q] Nook HD won't boot

Hi,
I've owned a B&N Nook HD (7 inch) for just over a year, when I first got it I flashed CWM and CM10 onto it and ever since have had absolutely no issues with it, however a couple of weeks back I was having trouble getting it to charge, it would take a few tries of plugging the cable in before it would finally begin (I'm not sure whether this is related at all to the issue) However a couple of days ago I was happily browsing the internet, then it made a strange "Pop" sound and the screen went completely black. Ever since then it won't boot up, it will briefly display the Nook logo but will then make the same pop sound and go to what looks like a black screen, however under low light you can see that the backlight is still faintly on, and to turn it off you have to hold the power button for 7ish seconds. Also on one attempt to boot it made it past the nook logo, and onto the cm loading screen but then had the same issue. I've also tried booting it to recovery but with no success :crying: .
Any help would be greatly appreciated, even if it's just to say that it's a complete right off.
Thanks
Probably you might have damage battery

Please watch this tutorial how to remove battery. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YfYvhtw30mU.
Then charge your battery via external power source i.e.Master charger. If you still can't turn on your device. Then buy new battery. Link of ebay is http://www.ebay.com/bhp/nook-battery
If it is software issue @leapinlar will surely figure it out.
Thank you very much for your quick response, I'll give the link a try!

I had a go at removing the battery, but as I don't have a Master charger or anything like that around, just stuck a multimeter onto the connector, and it read about 3.5v so to me that seems pretty charged.
Does this mean it is a damaged battery, as I'm on a bit of a shoestring budget, so want to make sure I'm getting the right thing

I've install stable cyanodgen 10.2.1 a year ago and have this issue ever since. Not sure if it's common but whenever the nook is drain completely to dead...when you try charging it..the light would be green..then amber. So I don't know whether its charge or not but I guess it is. I would not be able to power it back on...the normal way. It would seems dead. The way for me to get it to power up is to get into cwm recovery by pressing both the power and home button at the same time, then reboot it. It gets annoying because I would have to do that all the time since my 5 year would drain it out lol

Fire Reboot to Recovery - Unresponsive

Hi there, I'm having an unfortunate issue with my Amazon Fire (rooted, flashed AOSP with FireFlash). As I was sending a message last night, it rebooted itself to recovery. To get back to the OS, I selected it to reboot the tablet, and I have not had any signs of life since. The battery was around 50%, but I plugged it back in to charge overnight. I have held the power button for over 40 seconds, both volume combinations don't seem to change anything, and it wasn't detected by Windows. I don't see the backlight coming on at all, either. Is there anything that I can do to force it to boot or reset? I don't mind flashing a new OS if it means I can use my tablet again.

Suspect your device suffered a fatal hardware failure. Components are not especially robust to meet Amazon's aggressive price points. Spontaneous hardware failures have been reported by others. Given you were running a custom ROM an uninvited OTA update can be quickly ruled out.
Another possibility is a bad battery. I have seen devices that will not respond while 'plugged in' if the battery is missing or bad. Replacing the battery pack is fairly easy although you will need to disassemble the device. Whether it's cost effective depends on how much you value root and the ability to use a custom ROM.
