Choppy video playback on HTC 730

Any video clip I play in TCPMP and Coreplayer is choppy. The audio is fine, but the video is terrible, varying between about 4 and 0.4 fps.
Is this a known issue? Are there any settings I can tweak to get acceptable video playback quality on this device?
Wow thats bad, in TCPMP do you have the video quality set to high? Also you can increase your buffer size to help with playback. What programs are you running in the background also eating up memory? Are you storing the files on the phone or on the storage card?
TCMP wont play quarter mapped pixels so I have core player which "sort of" playes those files, I have not tweeked that one as much sicne TCPMP workes so well for most of my files but as is it will hang every few seconds for about a second.
I'm taking care to kill any programs in the background with task manager, the video files are stored on a microSD card. Video quality is set to normal. All TCPMP settings are left at their default values.
Here's the media info from TCPMP
Video: MPEG-4 Video
COodec: CoreASP
Video Size: 576x432
Frame Rate: 25.0
Audio: MP3
Codec: CoreMP3
Format 48000 hHz stereo
Data bit rate: 132 kbit/s
Played Frames: 225
Dropped: 199
Played FPS: 2.8
Okay, definately up your buffer size, mine is set to 4096 and audio preload at 512. I also uploaded the underrun buffer. When I get home I can type out all my settings, I can play resolutions around 352h x 640w and 704w x 400h(un changed files) at medium quality with only slight choppies in high speed scenes with lots going on.
You might also change the Video output mode to "Raw Frame Buffer"
It can handle really good video playback just gotta tweek it to fit your phone
I changed my settings to:
Buffer size: 4096
Audio preload: 512
underrun buffer: 85%
Video output: Raw Frame Buffer
And playback is now perfectly smooth, thanks! Are there any further tweaks I should apply?
Not many more for performance until HTC beef up the driver's. However you can go through the rest of the pages and tweek the audio, color's and such to improove how it looks.
Glad its working now though

best file size for dvd conversion to NC?

Giving DVDFab8 a try tonight to convert a DVD over to use on the NC. There is an option to set the fixed bitrate kbs and fixed file size. The default setting is 1315kbs and 1036 fixed file size. Any thoughts on these being ok or overkill for a kids disney movie conversion?

File size is a mute point what you need to do is make sure you using the proper profile
Your NOOK Color supports the following video file formats: 3gp, 3g2, mp4, m4v; MPEG-4 Simple Profile up to 854x480; H.263 up to 352x288; H.264 Baseline profile up to 854x480
Your NOOK Color will not support the following video file formats: Flash (Flv/swf); Mov/qt; AVI; MKV; Xvid/divx; WMV / VC-1; H.264 Main and High profile; and videos with a resolution higher than 854x480
Best thing to do is make sure you are using M4V h.264 baseline at 854x480 rez.
you can set the Bit rate to what ever you want, as long as the codec is correct and the rez is at or below that.
I would says that 1315kbs should look just fine on the nook,

Disney kids movie? The kids wont know the difference; make the file size around 600 megs... save some space and time transferring to the nook.
You could check out this thread:

It should at least give you some reference points for what to use as settings in DVDFab (because those defaults you mention are probably overkill). Either way...I think encoded DVDs look a little bit grainy on the Nook Color (because dvds are only 480p).
thanks for the tips everyone

VIDEO EDITOR bitrate problem

I am very sad, becouse at the beginning i have tray the stock video editor app of ky 7.7 and i found it very wonderfull and better than imovie for ipad. Now i have changed my mind becouse after making a project and after exporting it i have see that the resoulting video as his bitrate half of the original bitrate video. Our 7.7 record video at 1200x800 at 29/30 fps and about 11000 of bitrate. The video are very nice, but after process these videos with the app videoeditor the final bitrate is about 5000, and the difference is visible.. the size of the final video is smaller and the quality is poor.
ANYONE KNOW where to find the ini file of the app videoeditor? Is there any text file where i can tweak the app changing the settings from 5000 to 11000 kbps? PLEASE RESPOND
help please

[Q] Compress 720p video size

Hi! I did some video and I noticed that their size is excessive.
I recorded a video of 02 minutes and 52 seconds and its size is 200MB!!! I don't think it's normal but, anyway, I was looking for a method/software that is able to compress the size but keeping quality on pc. Have you one to suggest? Thanks in advance.
Well one idea is that you can go to /etc/media_profiles.xml and edit the "bitRate" line under the 720p encoder section and reduce it. This will reduce both the quality and size of the video while recording.
If you want to compress a video on your computer, use something like AutoX264. It uses the x264 codec like your phone, which is currently the best video codec (x265/HVEC out next year), and is easy to use.
AutoX264 give me an error with all codecs (ffmpeg, mencoder ecc..) it seems that it cannot retrieve video's filesize information. Is there a software less complicated and more "auto"?
