Notifications in MIUI - Xiaomi Redmi 4X Questions & Answers

I am coming from Redmi 2 (1 GB RAM variant) where it barely showed email notifications and whatsapp notifications on time. There was delay of few hours in case of email notifications all the time and although whatsapp notifications were on point most of the time, sometimes I missed them (The problem might have been that it had only 1 GB RAM). I had to install custom ROM (Lineage OS) to get over that problem. The Redmi 2 I had was stolen and I want to upgrade to Redmi 4.
So, my question is if the same problem exists even in Redmi 4 i.e, notification delay in MIUI?

miui is a junk, switch to customs , no problems here.

The problem still exists even with 3 GB of RAM? and do you recommend buying Redmi 4 and installing a Rom or buying a motorola even though the price is a little steep?

I'm a very happy owner of the Redmi 4X 3GB RAM/32GB MMC (running unlocked/rooted MIUI 8.5.2.0). No problem with that ROM whatsoever.
Regarding the notification issue, it sounds like the built-in battery saver causing the problems? Just select a custom setting for the apps where you need to see the notifications.
The battery saver in MIUI can be quite aggressive.

I had a ton of issues with notifications when I first bought the Redmi 4x. I did all the usual recommendations about locking apps in Recents and giving them the correct permissions, etc. but the thing that really gave me back my notifications was turning off "MIUI Optimization" in Developer Options.

Random restarts and heating issues with Redmi 4x

I have a peculiar problem with my Redmi 4x
My Phone restarts randomly multiple times and heats up in a weak network area. The top area of the phone, where the ear piece is usually becomes hot.
This happens when I am a basement, forest area, lifts etc. As long as I am in my home network things are perfect, phone goes crazy when it's in roaming.
This problem I've been facing in all the custom roms ( treble/non treble, AOSP, Luis RR, LOS, AOSP, Carbon, Nitrogen etc) , however I noticed after installing stock MIUI with locked boot loader, the problem disappears.
I have also tried different kernels and radio firmware combinations, but it hasn't help. I have even changed the network modes many times from 4G to 3G to 2G and vice versa.
Is there any other way to resolve the problem, I have searched every where and now I am back with MIUI 9.
I would like to install custom rom again.
Thanks
I also have the same problem
---------- Post added at 09:18 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:12 AM ----------
how to get rid of that problem
While when low network range area I have also faced this issue but it's just barely warm but not heating and using mobile data on custom ROM heating is little more.
I think it needs to be fixed from custom ROM development end.
While when In MIUI(9/10 Global beta)there's no heating issue in low or no network but when using data device does get warm doesn't heat up.
SOT is roughly around 4 to 5 hours.
I think it constantly searching for network and hence the heating in low network area.
Just check what different type of network available in your surroundings area and change it accordingly.
I have tried installing stock MIUI 9 Gobal/Developer with unlocked boot loader, but the phone still restarts randomly. Same thing happens with the custom roms. Like I said earlier, once the boot loader is locked, things are perfectly fine.
That means I am stuck with stock MIUI 9 for ever Missing all the amazing custom roms.
Is there any relationship between 'locked/unlocked boot loader' and random restarts??????
Another observation:
In airplane mode, phone doesn't restart or heats up
In safe mode phone restarts multiple times and heats up
Clean flashed custom roms, with no apps, phone still restarts
It's strange that I have been using various custom rom on my old Moto G , and it works like charm, better than stock rom. It doesn't heat up or restarts.
I may be wrong, but I believe people who have not faced similar problems with their Redmi 4x, have not left their network area.
I know all the developer are working really hard to make Redmi 4x awesome. :good:
Thanks
Finally I found a rom that doesnt restarts or heats up randomly
After trying out most of the popular roms, which were restarting randomly many times due to week network signal.
Finally with a heavy heart ( I don't like MIUI) I installed MIUI 10 by Xiomi.eu rom 8.8.30 beta, to my surprise it worked flawlessly. I used TWRP 3.2.3.0 and then magisk 17.1 with no issues.
Battery is really good, with zero drain during night hours when not in use, Volte works, all google play store apps works ( google camera, Google phone etc all works) and the best part NO MORE RANDOM RESTARTS AND HEATING.
Finger sensor works really good, UI is very smooth,
I have installed the ruthless pixel laucher and adaway, they work fine.
Few things I didnt like about the rom
Notification panel is ugly.
Substratum theme doesn't work
Ear piece volume is low
Miui theme engine doesn't work, every time I try to install, it returns an error
Led notification are working, but red, green, blue doesn't work ( though it shows options but doesn't work)
Xposed framework installs, but the gravity module doesn't work.
not many customization options ( may be some xposed module may work, I haven't tried)
I believe the above information may help those who hate MIUI, but are looking for a stable rooted rom without compromising on stability.
Cheers !!:good:
Thank you very much for updating with all details, much appreciated.
Not sure why your device giving multiple issue and running good on Xiaomi Eu ROM but anyways if anyone gets issue like this then one may try this particular ROM.
Try using "light manager" app to change between notification color or "Tasker" (there's tutorial how to use Tasker to change notification LED colors)
If your device doesn't hardware doesn't support then it's not going to work.
In my Redmi 4X colors work.(model number MAI 132 can be found on back side of box)
Early manufactured Redmi 4X are equipped with multi colored led notification light but later ones are only white.
MIUI third party themes should work I don't remember exactly though if you are looking for some customization with MIUI.
There are very few Xposed/magisk framework module available to customize with on MIUI.
Thank for sharing.cheers!

Welcome!!
My phone supports all the led colours, it was working with all the roms; excluding Luis RR- its doesn't glow at all.
Any ways, I have used this Xiomi.eu rom for the past 4 days and not a single restart or a weak network, it's hard to believe.
Can you please suggest a way to change the notification shade. I am aware that there are few apps on Google play store that can do, but aren't great.
Thanks you
Glad to know how good this ROM working on your device.
Currently there's no MIUI 10 themes in Mi/zhuti theme store.
Just few weeks ago they changed how themes are applicable depending upon the MIUI version and for results as of now I am writing this there's no theme available to change the notification shade yet, hope they are working to make it happen as soon as possible.
You'll see message when applying theme about theme isn't compatible but icons are pretty much usable and they can be set in theme customization and some other other part of themes also customizable.
You'll have to check it manually if it'll work or not.
Until then MIUI users have to wait for MIUI 10 Themes.
They have also started mentioning theme version (MIUI4/5/6/7/8 OR 9) to avoid compatibility issue but all previous version themes works just fine with older or newer MIUI.
Currently there's issue with applying older themes on MIUI 10 ( particularly changing notification shade).
Since several weeks I was on DOT OS 2.4 and just recently moved to Havoc 2.0 Pie so I can't say anything about last week's or this week's MIUI update if they have come up with MIUI 10 themes which will allow to change notification shade.
If I get any information about it I'll update it.

Do you find any other solution. i want to use Havoc ROM, due to network issue its not stable! if anyone find the solution kindly tell me

Android 10 based MIUI 11.0.1.0 is available for Redmi 8 EEA. Is it bug free?

So the update was available for a while if you're on Global and it just released for EEA devices. I honestly thought that they'll skip it and only release the 11.0.2.0 version on EEA.
If what I'm reading is correct, it was released a while ago for China and apparently some of the Global users got it too, it it supposedly more polished and it has a few bugs patched.
Can someone who downloaded the Android 10 based MIUI 11.0.1.0 and used it for a while on their Redmi 8 report how stable and polished it is? Did you encounter any bugs? Is it safe to update now or should I wait for a patch or two?
Update:
I installed it and it seems to work fine, no bugs so far and the only "issue" I found was that the Search in Settings takes a bit more time.

Miui 11.2.0 android 10 for redmi 8 Nigeria
Android 10 update on Redmi 8 Global Edition Nigeria : Review
Today I received the much awaited android 10 update on The Xiaomi Redmi 8 series and having awaited this update eagerly I was curious to explore the new fixes and features this update was to have .
Overview: the update named miui 11.2.0 global had a whopping 1.9gb as size on notification.
It took me approximately 13minutes to download it on MTN Nigeria 4g and installation was very smooth via the bootloader .
Restarting took a bit longer than normal for a first start bearing down almost to 1minute 23 seconds than the usual 50 seconds boot time I had due to first time start.
Unfortunately and much to my disappointment and anguish. This update came still based on Miui 11. I know, I know I am disappointed myself, I wanted miui 12 so bad.
Transition on miui 11 was normal and my entire set up was untouched , however I did notice that I had the gesture bar beneath the screen which I promptly disabled. This i hope is a sign we would get miui 12 soon.
There was no lag when I went through the phone also I did notice that a couple of xiaomi's native apps had been updated notably the browser.
The miui launcher for those using the default launcher on Android 9 now has the app drawer ability enabling have apps in a drawer than on default home mode, although I had this feature since installed a direct apk immediately I bought the phone..
Bugs:
Then to the bugs. The android 10 release is basically stable with probably bugs I haven't yet noticed but two bugs were immediately very obvious to me.
Battery drain: unlike in android 9 , my battery dropped drastically more in minutes than I ever experienced in this device dropping from 99 to 97 in 2 minutes on use than the usual 5, it did stabilize as the device settled and being used to custom ROMs I did expect it. I would update about the battery life as we progress.
Google assistant: by default I enabled Google assistant by long pressing my power button for .5 secs since I used gestures but it didn't work, I noticed the assistant apps was gone and downloaded from playstore but it still hasn't worked. I do love the assistant and hope the next update fixes the issue.
Verdict:
In a nutshell, if your a tester freak like me, downloading the latest update won't be a bad idea but don't just expect miui 12 as you will be disappointed.
You can delay the download till you have miui 12 avaliable which I believe won't be long enough, best guess October .
Funny side : was it me or did I think my device was a bit lighter after the update, I mean I picked up device and it felt like some weight was taken off, maybe it's my imagination.
Tell me what you think about your update in the comment section below and follow me back

I noticed a few bugs in addition that you wrote.
Icon bug: If you turn off MIUI opitmalization, then some icons in the homescreen will be bigger than the others. In Android 9, I never noticed this issue. You can easily fix it by turning back MIUI optimalization, and force stopping the System UI and the System launcher(they 'ill restart if you go back to the home screen, don't worry)
Spotify bug: Since the update If I turn on Equalizer in the settings of the spotify app, then the music will sounds like an errape
And the google assistant is working fine for me
The deitals of my Redmi 8: 64gb storage, 4GB ram
Chipset: Qualcomm SDM439 Snapdragon 439 (12 nm)
CPU: Octa-core (4x1.95 GHz Cortex-A53 & 4x1.45 GHz Cortex A53)
GPU: Adreno 505
I wrote the last 3 rows because I don't know if there is a Mediatek/Mali version of this phone
Europan rom (Locked bootloader)
Yeah, I also noticed a few bugs that bothered me enough to downgrade back to Android 9 for now, and while I was at it I installed MIUIMIX to hopefully get a bit more battery and a bit less spyware

Question Redmi note 10 pro SMS issues

I have the global variant of the RN10 Pro, and i have an issue where i am experiencing significant delays in sending and receiving SMS message...I tried the stock Google Messages app and also the Pulse and Qksms apps...
So far, the Pulse app has improved the situation where the delay is only about 3 minutes..
is anybody else experiencing the same issue..
PS: I don't have any coverage issues in my area..as my old phoone was fine..and even on my RN10 Pro, the LTE connectivity is working fine..its only the messages

I had absolutelly the same problem after debloating my MIUI ROM. Probably I have uninstalled some service important for the SMS function.
Fixed the problem flashing AOSPExtended ROM! ...
Yup thank you so much for the suggestion..I am waiting to get my bootloader unlocked and flash the Pixel Experience Plus rom..hope this resolves it.. I will also look at the AOSP extended version.
Also, is the MIUI.eu rom a good choice if i want to get back to MIUI by any chance?
I didn't really have any issues with SMS using the stock global MIUI, but I did have some weird delays with snapchat...sometimes not even receiving them until I unlocked my phone. I switched to the xiaomi.eu rom and it was better, but I still had some delays, just not nearly as often.
I then decided to switch to AOSP extended and I had delays in SMS if I left my phone off for 20+ minutes, but switching to QKSMS fixed the problem. I had these same delays with LineageOS on my old device (LG G5) and QKSMS fixed it there too.
I think I've settled on ArrowOS though. To me it's smoother and the battery life is the best of all of the roms I've used. The included messaging app (google messaging with the GAPPS version) works fine with no delayed messages. Only problem is the included camera is... well, not great. ANX Camera works pretty well, though, it seems, but you must be rooted.
Thank you for your insights. I will definitely keep my experience posted on the forum when i switch to the custom ROM..
Like you, I did have some issues with notifications for some apps like Gmail...but so far my biggest problem has been texts..Anyways, I'll flash a custom rom and see..
Instaling the Pixel Experience ROM has greatly improved my texting experience. There are no extended delays in receiving and sending messages.
I am experiencing screen flickering issues at 120Hz though. Works fine at 60Hz
Perhaps this is a flaw in this version, which just got to you.I think it was possible to call the technical support service right away and consult with them))))
LOL What better technical support than XDA?? in all seriousness, i don't mind using the phone at 60Hz, so I am set for now. Thank you guys for the support))))

Question "Sleep" time resets to 5 minutes

I have a little but annoying problem with my 11T Pro, so i'd like to find out if it's caused by some of applications i use or it is a system bug.
The Sleep time (Settings - Always-on display & Lock screen) is "After 5 minutes of inactivity" and when i change it to another value it resets again to 5 minutes after every screen lock.
Am i the only one with such a issue?
Strange, sounds like an isolated issue. I haven't faced that on my 11T Pro (Global Variant). Are you running the latest MIUI Version? Try updating if you're not on the latest one already.

I'm on latest Global too. I have many applications installed (above 400) and i suppose that the culprit is some of them (launchers, dialers, Tasker etc.) but unfortunately all my attempts to find the reason for my problem are fruitless for now.

Redmi 9 Problem: Occasional Reboots by Maxing out the Volume and etc

Hello, I'd like to asked if you guys also experience this:
Whenever I try to maxed out the volume and play something whether its a video or music, the phone just reboots right after. Though I wouldn't say it is only limited to maxing out the volume I also experience some reboots whenever I try to call and I feel like it reboots when I overwork the phone by opening "heavy" apps. Overheating??
Idk what happened but before I noticed those kind of stuff to happen in my Redmi 9. I just previously fixed it from bootloop w/o recovery & w/o fastboot due to downgrading from MIUI 13.0.5 CN ROM to MIUI 11.0.4 GLOBAL ROM.
So I was wondering whether it was a software issue or hardware issue in this case the battery. Idk if someone had ever tried this but I've watched a similar problem got fixed in youtube w/ Redmi Note 9 instead
with soldering or reheating the fuse within the battery.
Known fix: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/fix-nokia-8-restart-problem.4458427/
Haven't tried it yet tho, but will update if it actually works on my device.
