There is absolutely nothing I can throw at this phone to slow it down. With 4GB of LPPDDR4X RAM, this phone is a Monster. The 835 chip powering a 5" 1080p screen is a great combination. Easily future proof for the next 3 years in Google's ecosystem. Now we just have to hope that 3rd part app developers keep optimizing for Android.
It's stutters from time to time.
It's the fastest phone I've ever used. With 2.45Ghz big cores , clean Android and 4GB of RAM it does everything action basically instantly

Stock android... i love it.
Its so incredibly smooth and fast. Never had any performance issues.

To tell you the truth I'm disappointed.. It gets stuck alot when I use few apps simultaneously..
I'm surprised to hear that. This is one of the fastest and smoothest phablets I've ever had. I'm a civil engineer and I even do minor dwg file editing when away from the office. Viber, Messenger, WhatsApp etc are always in the background as is Gmail, Office Lens, Chrome and Dropbox. Also, notifications keep storming in.
I really haven't seen such smoothness and speed since the 1+ 3T running the AEX ROM. Keep in mind that the 1+ had 50% more memory!
I've had my Ultra for 6 months, and it can handle anything I throw at it. It was good on Nougat, but better on Oreo. It games with the best of them, it handles multitasking like a breeze, and with a near stock interface, it runs hella fast.
RAM mangament should be better. On my previous Asus Zenfone 2 I can open more apps without reload. Mabye flash custom kernel and ROM will help. Except that - I am very satisfied.

Fast enough for everyday tasks and occasional gaming
Fast, but not sometimes on Nougat with busy EMMC.
Faster for Gaming (Only gaming; loading times... Eh, Snapdragon 625 is faster).
Fingerprint, f*cking fastest. (Works partially with the wet finger, but, is ok).
Slow Shutdown and "Slow" Startup (Meh, iDevices, and Huawei Devices are Slower for this).

i must say, i'd expected more performance, its fast for sure, but i don't see much difference between my X and my old Z1. Could be a custom-rom issue but the X also stutter from time to time on fast scrolling and don't look that fast overall. But i don't tried any GPU heavy games, so i can't tell how it goes there
Have it or 6 months. Since day 1 it's updated to Oreo, must say wasn't expecting that good performance. No hicups, really fluid even when switchingg between apps and using split view with youtube.
I believe that Snap 650 with 1080p screen is an awesome combo.
without problem in performance.

Owned the 5 for a few weeks now. Its slow as hell. stutters when scrolling, just feels laggy for a modern phone. I gave it a 3 as its 'ok' for the money but other wise a 2 compared to anything decent.

Agree. Additional 1 GB ram would be useful. Furthermore, here in Poland you can get better phone for less.
Well, it is not very fast for money, but you are paying extra for build quality and support, which is great IMO.
I agree with @kennyhkw, it's ok for the price range but laggier than I expected it to be
moved recently
I have moved from apple to android recently
I have just been checking the specs of the iphone 6 vs Nokia 5
my nokia 5 is so slow - i thought it was faulty to be honest - I have just run some bench marking tools on it and it is within the realms of what it should be.
It's not a good choice for anyone who is more than a light user, the camera app on oreo is also horrific - trying to slide photo to video or back again is like russian roulette.
so far i'm very disappointed - i'm wondering if dropping it down to 7.2 might improve things ?
owned it for about a month now but can't see me staying with it at present.
I'd score it a generous 2 - it's cheap but I was expecting something solid from nokia, not a porsche with a moped engine.

I love my nokia 5, i've being used it for 3 months, there is no trouble after all and no lag.
oh maybe i used the 3GB ram variant, so it's smooth
This phone isn't the fastest. About 30% of the time there are delays between tapping something and an action occurring. But it's performance isn't a laggy mess or anything. It's actually pretty good. It's not incredibly snappy but gaming, editing and pretty much every task runs well without any lag. The camera takes a second or so to open up though.
Honestly it's pretty slow overall, I'm pretty disappointed. Sometimes it seems like it's almost ok, but sometimes it can really become painfully sluggish.
Lags when unlocking with fingerprint, but otherwise quite snappy. Lag is hardly noticeable and once it happens once, it wont happen for a while after. this is for the 2gb variant
8/10

No complaints is this area. Surprisingly fast!
Overly smooth for now, no lag at all when switching apps (except in-app lag which often is a bug from the app developer), all of them are kept in RAM and I still have 1.5-2GB spare for peak needs. I don't play heavy games, though. Mostly social medias, cameras (yes, I have more than 1 camera app), browsers and online shopping apps.
smooth and no lags..
what have more?
Extremely fast even on miui stock rom

Although it is a reasonable configuration, the experience is not. For me the predecessor Mi Max 2 is better.
The CPU clock is always high, never below 50% and any action, then hits 100%, I really can't understand why. I think it might be CPU deficiency.
For day to day, performance is quite fast and smooth. Occasionally there are lags here and there but that's it. It has no throttling either. IMO this device is worth every buck.

Agree.. I feel this device is snappy and works well.. perfect balance of battery and performance
very happy with the upgrade over my mk2
It's fine. I don't game but use a lot of gps apps with large detailed maps both vector and bitmap and they're speedy enough. And I'm saying that after coming back to this phone after a month on an Mi9t Pro 8/256.
