Hi,
So i have a Moto G 2 XT-1068 with Android 5.0.2 and system version 22.21.28.titan_retaildsds.retaildsdsall.ex.03 reteu.
I rooted it and installed Xposed.
Since some days, my phone notify me that there is a new (official) update avalaible :
22.56.3.en.03
My first reflex was to post in the Xposed forum :
I have a Motorola Moto G 2nd edition (2014 XT-1068) with Android 5.0.2 and these xposed versions installed :
XposedInstaller_3.0_alpha4.apk
xposed-v75-sdk21-arm-1
This morning, my phone notify me that there is a newsoftware update available :
22.56.3.en.03
Can i update ?
Will Xposed still running or do i have anything to do before or after update ?

then :
Yes i'm rooted (i didn't know i could install exposed without root ?!) and i ask the question to rooted users : what is the recommended behavior to have when we are rooted and there is an official update like this one ? Should i ignore it ? Should i wait ? Should i update (with one of your solutions) ?

and this is the reply i had :
You'll have to ask how an OTA works for that in your device forum.
For Google Android (untouched by OEM) in Kitkat, OTA used to check each important file individually and if one was modified, OTA would fail. This did not check all existing files or added files such as root, so as long as you uninstalled Xposed properly (restoring the original app_process files etc) then an OTA would be fine.
Since Lollipop, OTA checks the /system partition as a single item so any modification in any file, or any additional file will make the OTA fail. In which case, the only way to update would be to flash a stock ROM.
You will need to find out in your device forum which of these applies to your device.

So this is it, i make a post in this Moto G 2014 forum
Doing the OTA will most likely delete the XposedBridge.jar so you will have to flash it again.
Else the Xposed app will still be available but the Framework won't be installed.
If it doesn't update because the /system partition has been modified, you'll have to flash the whole rom to update.
Ok, so i can try without risk ?
And what about my root ?

Root will be gone too. You'll have to root it again by flashing SuperSu Zip though a custom recovery. (TWRP)
Restore the nandroid backup of the stock system you made in TWRP before you rooted.
You also need the stock recovery for the OTA to install.
You made a backup of your system before you rooted, right?

I'm note sure i made a backup before i rooted cause i'm note sure i knew i could install recovery without root but i checked my backup plan and my oldest backup is post root
So, what do you recommand when there is OTA like this ? Should i ignore them ?
It seems to be a hard process (flash stock recovery and root again and not sure if it will be possible anyway, is it ?) for maybe a little update ?
Maybe i should wait for the next big OTA like Android 6, then be sure that a new rooting process exist before update, and also be sure that Xposed will be supported ?
So if i ignore this 22.56.3.en.03, will i be notifyed for others newer OTA (like Android 6 for instance) ?
Thanks

You might have to flash the whole stock firmware back to get the stock recovery. Big waste of time.
Then rooting back means using CF Auto Root Commands again..
You have to update to it though if you want Android 6.0.
Since it won't be soon, you rather go for CM13 once it gets really stable.
Also by the way, Xposed is already supported on MM.
Thanks for these precisions.
So if i can resume : a custom rom is easier for enjoy Android updates than just Xposed.
Hi,
Can you confirm :
For someone searching advanced features like customize status bar, quick settings, shutdown menu, hardware buttons, etc : customs roms and "stock rom + exposed" are two solutions. BUT, for someone searching these same advanced features but also keep his device up to date : custom rom is really a better solution. Isn't?
I was happy when i discovered xposed as it seemed to be a easier process that flashing a custom rom, but i didn't know that i couldn't update easily..
So, what is the advantage to use xposed instead of custom rom?
Hi,
I am always thinking if i will update my stock rooted xposed rom, or if i will install a custom rom prerooted like Cyanogen mod (o have easier future updates).
i have some questions :
1- Is it possible to install xposed and modules on a custom rom like cyanogen mod ? I think yes but can you confirm ?
I know that CM come with inbuilt tweaks but i discover some great xposed module i would continue to use, even if i install CM.
2-If i keep my stock rooted xposed rom, and don't make this "little" Android 5 OTA update, will be i notified for "Android 6" ?
(i don't want to lose my time to reflash my rom, reroot mydevice, etc.., just for a little update, but i could do that for a more important update like Android 6...
3- We are agree that if i flash a custom rom like CM, it will resolve my "ota update" problem, cause there won't be "Motorola OTA" anymore, but there will be CM updates easy to make, isn't ? If yes, what could be the advantage to use stock rom rooted + xposed vs custom rom + xposed ?
Thanks
The situation is like this :
I want to restore data of apps and games from my Galaxy Note 4 to my new Oneplus 3T using titanium backup. So I think maybe I can unlock Oneplus 3T > root it > restore data using Titanium > unroot > Relock . Just then I know relock will erase all of your data. So now, the plan will only be Unlock Oneplus 3T > root it > restore data using Titanium > unroot > Relock .
I want to keep my phone unroot because some games did not run when rooted. Currently, my phone is Marshmallow 6.0 . I do want to update to Android N 7.0 . So can I apply the OTA update (without custom recovery) through my phone after unrooted but unlocked bootloader ?

I recommend the use of Magisk to hide root from your games and banking apps and you can play the games and have root at the same time.
Just unlock the bootloader
Flash twrp
Flash magisk
Install and restore Titanium backup
Restore your app/game data or copy paste the obb
Use Magisk manager to hide root from your desired games and banking apps
Play the game as usual
Enjoy

I dont know why everyone doesn't use magisk lol. And OP im sure you can flash stock recovery back on after everything else if you really want to.

If I am not mistaken, when you are rooted, you can flash the OTA files via twrp, then flash SuperSu to gain root again.
But my area currently having a super slow internet connection  but then I think I can just download those OTA files and wait... . Ahhhh.. I really want to keep phone rooted. Want to explore everything like in previous Sammy phone.

Can't you just get the full rom files from xda or oneplus forums and flash them manually? It seems like a lot of messing about just for OTA, your internet can't be THAT slow.

You need to download a full update from oneplus website (eg : http://downloads.oneplus.net/devices/oneplus-3t/). The files must exceed 1gb or more.
Then you need to flash it using Twrp. Then re-root by flashing SuperSU .

That version SuperSU 2.46 is ancient, like 2015 Lollipop era! Root methods constantly change, and you need to use a relatively current SuperSU version.
I've applied 2 updates now (while rooted, unlocked bootloader), without a hitch using Funk Wizard's guide and SuperSU 2.79.
Hey everyone I'm looking to root my Canada Telus P20 pro. I'm looking to Unlock my phone , install twrp (or on ramdisk) , SuperSU or magik my stock room.
downloaded Tool All In One but it doesn't support my device: CLT-L04. The text in blue means it's "unsupported"
After reading around some more I came across this thread. Which explains you can get the key and unlock the phone yourself, HOWEVER the website does not have CANADA line. I can't pass the sign up screen because it needs to send a text me to verify but the area codes are non-canada.
Also came across this thread. Can some explain how this works?

Hey I was able to unlock my bootloader through the website. This laptop had internet explorer and for some reason I wasn't able to pass the sign without providing # verify code.

Also any recommend detoxed stock ROMs ?
I rooted my phone without all in one tool, as it doesn't support my device. Unlocked my bootloader, fastboot flash TWRP through minimal android drivers using command prompt.

Good stuff. You made it this far. Now there is this one rom but you have to rebrand the phone to L29 using Funky Huawei or something like that but then even if you manage to do that there is only one stock rom and one aosp rom I don't think either are worth losing VoLTE over but that's me.

Thanks,
Here is my problem. Everytime I restart my phone Swift keyboard reinstalls itself.
Root uninstaller pro reports I'm rooted but system partition isn't r+w (read / write) so all I can do is disable applications but some of them re-enable itself apon restart...
Also if I update magik manager to latest version , causes magik manager to close when I tap the icon. Which means any application that requires root also closes when trying to request root. I have to uninstall magik from system settings. Reboot into TWRP and flash old magik version.

I have been using my Moto x4 since 2017 running stock ROM. Now, Moto has stopped android updates to x4. So, I decided to try android 10 based pixel experience ROM from XDA. But, I have some doubts.
Previously, I have used a Xiaomi device and I had experience with installing custom rom. But, for moto I am confused. Please correct me if I doing something wrong.
Steps to follow:

2. Install twrp.
3. Install copyparitions zip file. ( Id this file suitable to my device? Because, android one variant has 3gb, 32 gb storage, am using 4gb, 64gb variant. Does it causes any trouble?
4. Install firmware. ( My device running on android 9, with latest security patch of sep 2019..ppw.29.69.40.4. so, do I need to install firmware.
5. Backup EFS etc.
6. Install pixel experience zip.(pixel plus)
7. Reboot to bootloader.
8. Install twrp
9. Install gapps. ( I wished to install gapps from open gapps, which contains nearly stock Google apps. Can I use aroma variant).
10. Reboot to system.
After installation: (without rooting)
a. Can I use google pay, and banking apps. Is it safe.?
b. Which camera is got installed? Gcam 7.0+ or Moto camera.
How was the bugs, battery performance?
Thanks in advance.

Is there anyone who have qcn or efs backup , if you have then can you provide that for Moto X4 or say (XT1900-2)
Have some free time this coming weekend and was considering installing the android 11 beta posted here
Reading around this forum I've seen people have had issues installing gapps.
Has anyone managed to install gapps successfully? If not, I will stay on the NX627J_CNCommon_V2.23 build.
Thanks in advance.
EDIT:
I have now upgraded to Android 11 and installed google apps, here's how I did it.
The usual disclaimers apply: DO NOT DO THIS IF YOU ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH ADB, FASTBOOT ETC. I will not be held responsible for bricked devices.
If you wish to void your warranty the command to unlock the bootloader and allow flashing with fasboot the command is "fastboot oem nubia_unlock NUBIA_NX627J"
1. Backup the data you want to keep from your phone. Wipe the phone using stock recovery or TWPR
2. Upgrade to 2.24 using full zip. As I had previously rooted my device so the stock recovery wasn't working and I had to flash TWRP.
3. Upgrade to 3.11 using full zip. Either use the stock recovery or TWRP. This will be the last time you can use TWRP for flashing due to changes in Android 11. TWRP does not support Android 11 yet. If I'd have realised this before I would have tried to flashed google apps at this step. Can't confirm if this works but I wish I'd have tried it.
4. If you need root, install the APK for magisk "canary" (or any version that supports patching boot.img)
5. Open the zip for 3.11 and extract boot.img, copy to your device
6. Patch the boot.img using Magisk. I used these instructions. Reboot.
7. Congratluations, you have Android 11 with root!
If you need gapps and didn't install them yet, it's still possible. Flashing without TWRP was a challenge, but after a lot of hours wasted, I found that BiTG apps was working which I downloaded from this page. I flashed using EX Kernel Manager but I would imagine other apps that allow root flashing will work similarly.
Currently, I have not been able to get SafetyNet checks to pass. I will update this thread with details as I uncover them.
For WhatsApp verfication to pass make sure you have granted Google services framework SMS permissions.
Hope this is helpful for some people who are thinking about making the move to Android 11. No major issues to report yet, will update this thread if anything comes up.
EDIT 2021/02/22: I have repeated this process successfully for V3.15.
thais rom support to flash twrp or google app?

No major issues to report yet, will update this thread if anything comes up.

you can uninstall most of the bloat without root, and even more of it with
obviously I don't work for nubia but at this point a global ROM seems a way off, especially given there has been nothing since 2.03
here is the forum post for release 3.11

I want to make it stock. Is there a tutorial for that? Their rom has too many issues, including the notifications and that ugly skin with their useless chinese features.

"stock" for this phone is what you have installed now. There is no custom ROM, which is your real complaint. To be honest, I would also much prefer a custom ROM, if you find one let me know! Anyway this is completely off topic for this thread

Yeah, stock is what I have installed right now, which is Android 9. I would like to get the stock Android 11, without their skin. Maybe a GSI rom could fix it, but I was not able to install it. As soon as you flash the gsi rom on nubia ui 8, the system breaks.

Yeah I hear you - it's incredibly annoying that you can't set the default launcher to anything else. Well, I'm sure you can probably! But I'm going to leave my phone to settle for a few days at least before messingw ith it any more
Good luck.

I'll stay on Android 9 for the moment, but I will never buy from this brand again. Apple proved me again that their phones are the best from the market. And Google Phones of course.
I have updated my phone from Android 9 to Android 11 V3.11 everything works fine but can I install gapps and how?

You may want to add in the instructions the command to unlock the bootloader of the z20 since users wouldn't be able to flash otherwise.
I managed to get this working and trying to de-china-fy to have english only. Will report back if I can somehow replace the default launcher.
Edit: got a my total launcher running by placing the apk inside the folder where the default nubia launcher is sitting. With root, just place the apk under system/app/nubia launcher folder. It's not working 100% perfect for me as nubia edge gestures stop letting me pull up recent apps so I can't multi task anymore

See OP "If you need gapps", here's the link again to get them again. BiTGApps-arm64-11.0.0-R17_signed-20200923.zip is the name of the file I have.
[GAPPS] Download GApps for Android 11 (JUNE 2021 UPDATE)
Google Apps (GApps) for Android 11 based ROMs needs to be flashed separately. Here is a direct link to download Android 11 compatible GApps.

Thanks that's a good idea, I'll try it out. Can you explain a little more around the gestures issue, is it that you show the navbar and the nubia controls are now somehow in the way? I've been a fan of the nubia navigation since I gave it a go and became used to it. Having the back button at any point in the screen is useful I find.
I've added the command to unlock the bootloader to the OP btw.

With the stock nubia launcher even with the Chinese app taken out, swiping left always tries to get you to the Chinese google feed like page. I didn't care for that so I replaced the launcher with total launcher which worked.
The problem is that the swipe up gesture that usually pull up the recent apps to allow switching between application is not working. Even switching the navigation from gestures to 3 button navigation and pressing the recent apps button does nothing.
Perhaps I took one too many Chinese system apps out which caused this error or it is somehow tied into system and nubia launcher itself. Will have to test further.

Thanks makes sense. Yes it sounds like you've uninstalled the Recents app, either reinstate or there are alternatives out there I believe

Just to confirm, I have just tried to set a new default launcher as you suggest above by replacing the APK. Replacing with SmartLauncher I couldn't return to the home screen using the swipe up gesture so have rolled back.

It's weird, the recent apps and swipe up are linked to the nubia launcher for some reason. Despite this, I'm staying with with my launcher as I can't stand the apple like nature of the nubia launcher. I think I have managed to get rid of all the Chinese apps though so all good for now.

Do you get notifications from apps? When I had that rom, I was not receiving any notification.
