Hey
I have been searching for a clear answer but couldn't find any.
I am looking for guides and information about how I could possibly install a fresh, stock, "vanilla" version on my Note 8 N950N.
mine is the korean 256GB variant. I can't replace it and i wanted to get the 256GB variant anyway.
but some bloatware and also a few minor annoying "bugs" that are in the korean software is really disturbing me. it gets all confused because i am not really in/from korea. i get plenty of korean marketing **** and more...
I would like to have an international version. have it work seamlessly with my local networks, and also when i go abroad (i will be going to the USA in april).
Preferably i would like to get the Stock version, without rooting anything.
but if i have no choice i would install a custom rom which is the "cleanest" and the one most similar to stock.
please, can anyone write down clearly what are the steps I should do. I would be really thankful.
By the way, if it matters, I live in israel (if need to install a software or modem which are compatible.)
please, help!
thank you very much
Alon

Because you can't install F fw on a N without rooting, odin will not let you.
If you don't care about Samsung Pay or Secure Folder, twrp/root & install any custom F based rom you want. Or with root you can remove all the bloatware from your stock fw that you want. Or you can install Weta Rom base only. Weta Rom has the mod installer seperate so if you just want a stock unbloated rom Weta base would be a good choice. Weta is by far my favorite ROM so far & is what I have been running....with the Weta mod though.

Thank you,
I actually don't mind about Samsung Pay. it's not being used in Israel anyway, and what is Secure Folder? i didn't know about it also anyway so i guess it wouldnt bother me.
So what is the process step by step?
1. Root phone.
2. then?
is it possible to root the phone and then install a stock firmware of an F variant? i am not interested in having a custom rom anyway...

a question. Is it possible to install TWRP, then change CSC and then flash a stock ROM of the N950F variant? or will the device react badly for it?

Hey man, I tried doing exactly this on my 256GB SM-N950N with @_alexndr's DevBase ROM for the SM-N950F as you linked to above. Skipped the model check, however, I keep getting an error message during the installation process. @_alexndr stated, here in that his DevBase thread, that flashing the SM-N950F ROM on the SM-N950N isn't that straight forward due to different system partition size.
Please would you happen to know of the proper procedure to resizing my SM-N950N partitions so that I can flash the latest SM-N950F Oreo (don't like Android pie) DevBase ROM on it? Thanks in advance.

No, that's still Korean. I'm looking to install the unlocked and unbranded UK CSC on my SM-N950N. However, doing that breaks Bixby and other region-locked Samsung services as they detect my model number isn't in the region. So, I figured installing the SM-N950F ROM would resolve the region locking issue. Similar to how Tkkg1994's Iron Man ROM did it.

i believe by debloating a bit, the total amount of data written to the system partition was reduced to accommodate the N devices. or by pure fluke, maybe dev never intended to reduce data just for the N but just by removing some knox stuff and other unneeded stuff when rooted.

But if I change the CSC to the UK unlocked and unbranded, Bixby starts saying "Ok, I canceled it" to every single 1 of my commands.
Whereas with the Iron Man ROM, which virtually changed my device model number to SM-N950F, and the same UK CSC, everything worked fine. Unfortunately, it's development came to an end long before my Note 8 was even 1 years old.

So you're applying the same CSC patch to both ROMs? Or you mean that a CSC with the same name in Iron Man ROM and in a separate CSC zip behave differently?
My phone is running stock N950N base, with my USA T-mobile CSC patch and Bixby works correctly for a USA Tmobile phone because all its settings are in the CSC config files.

I used Tkkg1994's CSC changer ZIP file in both cases. How did you go about doing your CSC change? If I can simply change to UK unlocked and unbranded CSC while keeping Bixby and every other Samsung service working as normal, I'll be fine with that.

The files are no longer available. Can you repost them.
I cannot for the life of me figure out whats going wrong. I bought SM-G960UZKAXAA (US unlocked s9). I wanted VZW's advanced calling features so I put SM-G960U on the device (instead of the SM-G960UI, as it should be). I've used the special Odin and stock firmware to revert, and it seems to be successful, according to Odin, but nothing ever changes. Still get the VZW splash screen and other VZW stuff. HELP!?

if this is the same U1 firmware available in other posts, why flood xda dev with so much duplicate posts?

i just upgraded my note 9 SM-N960F from dutch 8.1.0 to German 9.0 pie via Odin . and to be honest im so disappointing with this UI and the whole update i was wondering if is it still possible to downgrade back to Oreo again ???
thanks alot
I think that it should be possible with Odin but honestly I never done it before so don't know. By the way, is the black mode feature implemented it this version of Pie in the toggles or in settings ?
Because I read someware that the initial version of this black mode or night mode or however it's called is not fully implemented like the final version should be.
toggles and settings both of them in night mode , but its not stable i have the feeling its slower my phone down some unknows issus
First try clear cache in recovery mode maybe can resolve. also try to update apps with play store or with galaxy apps because some apps must need an update to the pie version.. After that if all is worthless, maybe a factory reset will resolve Sometimes corrupted data may do this after an update specially after a big OS change like this.

I'm hoping someone can further clarify the steps needed to downgrade to Oreo. I have the 96OU unlocked US version and I upgraded using the modded Odin method for US Snapdragon versions in the Guides section. I do not like the carrier bloat that was added to my phone and would like to revert back to 8.1. I went to SamMobile and looked up my firmware which I believe is N96OU1UEU1ARL1, my actual model is SMN96OU1ZKFX. I have downloaded Odin3 v3.13.1. I originally used Odin3 v3.13.1 3B patchedD to upgrade. Do I run Odin (non-patched) then input the BL, AP, CP and CSC files from the extracted 1ARL1 file and select Auto reboot and F.Reset Time only, not re-partition? Can I use the patched version of Odin if I want?
I have been looking for a step by step tutorial for this but just can't find one.
Update: 1
I was able to change csc in Q for our n960n and this is how i did:
I flashed Superstable Q rom and the Dev included the option during installation in aroma to chose a different csc, i keept using the rom for 2-3 days and didn't have any issues, but before returning to Pie i did tested Dr.ketan's Q rom rom and Alexndr's-devbase Q rom and in both cases i still had my csc.

Im opening this thread to find a solution on how to change the csc on note9 n960n in android 10.
Doing so in Android Pie was easy ( of course with help from this great community ).
there is a tool provided here called - Csc selector - which i used and it worked great ( for note8/note9/note10), some roms offer the option to chose during installation.
when i updated to android 10 it changes the csc i had, probably because Samsung made some changes so i guess we will have to wait until more csc are released with updating process still in the way.
i will post any news/tutorial i find here and hopefully you too.
Almighty bump for this frustrating problem. I too am on the incorrect CSC on Q...everything works so I just ignore it but I can't help but think I am not getting the reception I would otherwise be getting if all available bands were utilised. I am on n960 FDS and should be on XSA CSC but I'm on XSG.
I'm not sure there are even Android 10 roms available for XSA region code yet.

We might be near because Samsung keeps releasing android Q to more regions for n9 and s9 now started to get its update.
I'm not sure how they've done it but there is a fix if you are prepared to flash a non-stock rom or already have.
You can flash either Alexandr's Devbase or Zeus Rom beta from the zeus telegram group, and before flashing rename the rom zip to include your appropriate csc followed by _. Read first post of devbase for details, it worked a treat for me and I didn't even think XSA was available for Q roms yet.

that doesnt work for my device i have an n960n and the only supported csc are KOO, KTC, LG, SKC, i can change to one of those in alexandr's rom ( by the way i love that rom and i came back from it to pie because of this problem) but no to n960f csc's so i guess i will have to wait until there is a mod to change csc in android q.
thanks for your reply.
Maybe you can try with Samkey software, but it's not free.
Even I am in this boat, I downloaded an n960f rom and tried to flash the csc on my n960n.
And yeah it failed.
Wish it were an easier process.
I just want the random reboots to go away on q.

they offer only sim unlock, i didnt see in their web page that they can change phone model, your reply made me think if we could change the bootloader/model completely with a tool ( my friend has some of those he uses them to unlock/repair/flash phones).

No need to reset device to change csc if you already have a multi csc firmware for example OXM. Use phone info or something similar from play store to check.
I used samkey (purchased 2 credits from ebay for $5) and in a minute changed csc to THL

Buy samkey credits from ebay (you need 2 to change csc) you get them in a form of a username and password
Download samkey from theit website
Connect N10+ to your pc with the cable you got with your phone
Open samkey, input username and password, input THL in the csc field and execute. (my first attempt failed with a server error the second one suceeded)

thanks for your input but this model of note 9 - n960n is made for Korea and i has only 4 csc - KOO/LG/KTC/SKC , these csc have limitations when used outside South Korea which is the case for me, because of this i have network issues so i want to change it to a n960f model or multi csc so i dont have those network limitations.
i changed my phones csc to multi csc with a flashable tool "csc selector" and i works great but this works only in PIE, samsung made some changes in Q and it doesnt work.
Oh, ok, didn't know the story about n960n.
I need to change too!
Update
I was able to change csc in Q for our n960n and this is how i did:
I flashed Superstable rom and the Dev included the option during installation in aroma to chose a different csc, i keept using the rom for 2-3 days and didn't have any issues, but before returning to Pie i did tested Dr.ketan's Q rom rom and Alexndr's-devbase Q rom and in both cases i still had my csc.
Can i change n9600n firmware to n960f ?
Please advice me, I am new to this kind of works, thanks in advance

If you mean N960N, Yes you can as i mentioned couple post ago.
You need to root your phone by following the instructions in note 9 guides forum, then go to note 9 rom development forum and choose the one you prefer.
