Hey guys, so, I don't know if you have already discussed this matter or not, but,
I just found out that OxygenOS has some service called ODM which collects data and logs etc, and submit it to the company! the service has the Package name of net.oneplus.odm.

There is a magisk module for this.

Isn't that mostly used for sending log files to them in case of reporting issues? Do you know for sure that this is sending information outside of when the user specifically accesses this app?

Is Lineage more secure privacy wise?
What a bunch of diqfuqs. Not surprising at all. At lot of these chinese smart phone companies think it's cool to spy on the userbase. AdUps anyone?
Apparently "Never Settle" really just means "We're going to bend you over for all that sweet, sweet Big Data, you peons!"
FYI, from the link above this sends off the to the mothership:
Amongst other things, this time we have the phone’s IMEI(s), phone numbers, MAC addresses, mobile network(s) names and IMSI prefixes, as well as my wireless network ESSID and BSSID and, of course, the phone’s serial number. Wow, that’s quite a bit of information about my device, even more of which can be tied directly back to me by OnePlus and other entities.

I seriously doubt there's any mention of this in their "terms of service".
The specific APK I'm seeing which is responsible for this is called Insight Provider, at least on my OOS-based ROM. If rooted, you can simply disable it with Titanium Backup. Ideally you should uninstall it and be done with it permanently.
Also, open.oneplus.net should be added to your AdAway blacklist, post haste.
If not rooted, you have to turn on ADB in developer options and run the following command from your ADB console:
Code:
adb start-server
adb shell
pm uninstall -k --user 0 net.oneplus.odm
ROM-makers: You might wish to pull this module from any OOS ROM's you are making in the days ahead. That will clear the air for us going forward.

LineageOS is quite a bit better in a lot of regards. It is stripped down AOSP to the bare bones, no bloatware, and you have the option of built-in root functionality plus a Privacy Guard, which lets you restrict what apps can access or do what with your phone.
Even our OOS custom roms don't have the last part, sadly.

Yeah, im almost 100% certain that lineage only rips the drivers for the device's hardware so that the fingerprint and camera and junk can work with their customized OS.

so upon checking my system apps, does OnePlusLogKit have something to do with it as well? Its currently cached on my phone and the name suggests it has something to do with it this collection.
The LogKit is how they get people to send in logs when problems arise.
Seems not the same as this analytics stuff

Does this affect OP5? This issue is from 2016. I do t see the analytics service running on my OP5.
The article is about the OP2.
im on FreedomOS 1.8, i first disabled the device manager services. Then completely deleted the folder and rebooted phone.
Permanently done with it. It's good to have a rooted phone lol

I've moved the folder out from system for now (just in case it breaks something else), and I'm rebooting.
But if you had no worries deleting the bastard completely, I'd be more than glad to do that myself.

Yes, I moved the folder out of /system, and in to/sdcard.
That way, if something got broken, I could simply restore the folder and then use magisk to block the process.
But since nothing seems to be broken comma and this is a more powerful fix in brackets so to speak, I prefer it.
I have removed 2 folders
Code:
/system/priv-app/OPDeviceManager
/system/priv-app/OPDeviceManagerProvider
and all seems working fine...

So disabling the OnePlus System Service.apk and Insight Provider.apk through Titanium should do the trick, right?
AdGuard doesn't show me any traffic with open.oneplus.net.

I don't have an unlimited data plan, so I was quite frustrated to see that my G1 was consuming lots of megabytes in the background (also draining battery too fast).
To solve this problem, I wrote this iptables front-end to block undesired applications from accessing the network.
DroidWall - Android Firewall is a front-end application for the powerful iptables Linux firewall. It allows you to restrict which applications are permitted to access your data networks.
This is the perfect solution if you don't have an unlimited data plan, or just wants to see your battery lasting longer.

I'm sure a lot of seople will find this useful, however you should move you post to the games and programs forum. This is for rom delvelopment. Not trying to be rude, just a PSA before the mods move it.
On the top righthand side of you post you will see a triangle with a exclimation mark. Click it and ask a mod to move your thread to the appropriate forum.
If I ever have to drop my unlimetd plan I will be looking for a program like yours. Keep it updated and good luck

Droid Wall is white-list based, so you have to select the applications that you want to unblock, not the ones you want to block.
E.g.: to allow only the browser to access the internet, mark it and the click on "Apply rules".
Please let me know if it works on Hero since I have no oportunity to test it.
Thanks.

You talk about this as blocking ONLY data on the cell networks and NOT on wifi.
I suggest that it would also be good to be able to configure blockages on the wifi network, e.g. for semi-untrusted apps -- i.e. ones that want to communicate with homebase even though they work fine without it or ones that want to load ads.

Flashed this ROM. It looks so much like MIUI. It does have some neat animations. Here is a YouTube video of this on the nexus 4
http://youtu.be/qQYhk2Ji3tU
Hi guys,my first impression with this OS it's great, considering that it's a first build (and also the first time i use this OS).
More polished than Miui,no installation errors,LTE works out of the box, haptic feedbackworks, call recording and taking pictures with flash also works, basically just works.
Translation needs a bit of work but it's not so bad.
Btw installed as secondary rom with Multirom.
NOTE: I didn't tested the Rom with normal configuratio ( no Multirom) but it's possible that your custom recovery will be replaced after flashing this,so if you are prompted with a warning after installation make sure you don't allow it to replace the recovery.

Watch out though, China has some mad software to throw out. Like this Jailbreak with a pirate softwarr App Store preinstalled. I would be careful with that thing. It could contain spyware, this thing is almost unknown. At least outside of China. On the other side, it could be a custom ROM which is only popular in China, who knows...

I must second this. I have counted about 20+ different Chinese App stores, as Google is blocked in mainland China. My wife is from China and she won't even touch a lot of these app stores..... that would be why Xiaomi is so popular in China, they are the Google of China. And yes my wife uses a ton of apps, QQ, WeChat, etc. But just to confirm, be very wary of this phones app store. I would flash the appropriate Gapps then use root and remove the app store from the device. That way you have Google services but still keep the ROM. I also would be wary of the file scanner that comes preinstalled on this ROM.
Ahh Lewa Os nice I used that rom some months ago and also like a year ago. As far as I can say is that from the outside it is an more Alive, colorfull,Whitish bright color rom, but from the inside I am not sure how different it is.
When I used the rom for thelast time I didn't encountered any virus, jailbreak, spyware only ofcourse chinese apps but think about it, spyware is also in google playstore not only chinese app stores, the lewa os is really almost the same as miui v5 as with ui and also with apps included.

Nope. In custom ROMs for other phones (CM12 Pre-nightly) theres a button that clears all the apps in recents but its not present in stock Android.
You'll have to wait for the custom ROMs to come before you get this feature.
As far as I know there is not a way to do this. There should be in my opinion though. Maybe a mod soon

To be picky, they aren't running. From this perspective I am glad they don't have a clear all, because it gives the impression that clearing cashed apps is good or helpful.

Do. Not. Clear. All. Apps.
Not constantly. Not obsessively. Not hourly.
It does nothing to improve your experience but degredation in opening speed and CPU required to do so is possible. Some apps will even function incorrectly (bad design on their part, but easy to do)!
I'm NOT a fan of the new recents but clearing-all has never been a part of stock abdroid for a reason.

Without question you're right.
Problem is not all apps behave and not all of us are experts at identifying which app is the problem. This is where help is needed from the OS. And it seems like rather than making it easier they're making it harder (by requiring root to get certain usage data, i.e. GSAM).
Until then, folks will want a "clear all".

Its meant to be used for quick task switching. If you're trying to use recents to find an app older than say the last 5 or so, you don't want to be doing that.
Why they have to go so far back is beyond me.
If you're rooted, chain fire has an app (called recently) that helps manage recents. I set mine to show only actual running app and 5 more apps after that, for up to 2 hours. It also has a clear all button which as mentioned, should NOT be used.
If you want to root your phone you can keep it on the stock ROM and just install Recently by Chainfire.

Got the T-Mobile variant and coming from Note II.
When I have multiple apps that can open a item, I would get a prompt. With my Note II, I could then specify to open it one time or always.
With my Note5, the prompt doesn't give me that option. I do get the option to select the application. I click the icon and then a get a popup reminding me how to clear the defaults.
But, I didn't want to set that application as the default. I still want to be prompted for selecting the app to open.

I've for the same thing going on here, except that when I press an app (eg Chrome) it automatically opens it in chrome afterwards, no option to reselect unless I dive into app settings). Still very dumb. A far cry though from the annoying dialog box in old TouchWiz. The one that reminded you how to clear defaults. Every. Single. Time.
Yeah, I didn't like the old dialog AT ALL, it asked and asked and asked... I don't see why samsung changed it from the default at all, but oh well.

I agree. Some things I made permanent but certain thing I liked to open differently from time to time.

I thought this odd as well and thought maybe there was a simple fix.. I Google'd terms such as default apps for note 5 etc and noticed a ton of people complaining about other phones and how every time it asked them what app to open and that it was confusing and they didn't understand why it kept asking them. I wonder if samsung thought that by taking the choice away it would make the software easier to navigate.. they should have made it an option to select one time only, even if they hid it somewhere in settings. So far the better open app linked above has brought this function back and I barely notice it's not stock.

This app works great for the note 5. Doesn't work for all situations, but does for most. Not sure why sammy would remove the choice to pick to open once or always with the app. I guess they are trying to simplify things, at the cost of functionality. At least with this app you can get most of that functionality back.
This has been driving me crazy...especially since the functionality is still present on the galaxy tab s2 running 5.1.1. I tried better open with and it didn't seem to work for me. Maybe I'm using it wrong? Any tips on the app?

Guys uninstall the old package pro and download version 6.3 from this website. They disabled the urgentfwupdate from version 6.6 which will allow samsung to send updates to our phones.

Wil these 4 checked box, block all future updates?

Quick question, My N7 is not rooted. I've tried it it seemed to be working when I checking the boxes? Also, will it block all future updates?

Im not sure exactly how you would expect any of us to know if it will block future updates.
Nothing in life is guaranteed and we obviously cant predict if samsung finds a way to force the updates despite being blocked....its common sense really.
That said it blocked the first BS update on my exynos and its blocked the current BS update on my snapdragon so we are 2 for 2 lol
Im just happy its working still

Samsung Pay
Hey guys I have a Samsung Pay question, I factory data reset my phone to get rid of the update, installed package disabler pro stopped the update successfully... however when I reinstalled Sammy Pay I cannot complete the setup with my fingerprint, iris, both, nor the pin... Only disabled the software updates and left all bloatware active... How can I get one of my favorite features back?
Any help appreciated
Anyone know where I can get the previous note 7 app to get around this bull crap lock down?

Thank you force70, completely missed it. I've seen you in several threads. You know your stuff.
I am thankful for all those who have contributed to helping us get our note 7s back.
Thank you soulja4187 and force70, and everyone else who helped.
Next big dilemma: Been hearing they may block our IMEI#s since we are not giving up our note 7s. Can we hide or disable this act?

We can't stop them from blocking if that actually happens.
But if it does there are fixes for that also thank god lol.

Old news at This point, that was announced last week.
It remains to be seen where else it will happen though. I will be very surprised if they do that here or in the US honestly.
But if they do no biggie...

you say no biggie, is there a link or an existing thread about this?

Hi guys. Does this APK (on first post) require validation/authentication for it to work? From what I understand, even you buy on Playstore it won't activate this older version.
---------- Post added at 11:53 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:17 AM ----------
I've just read on Playstore reviews that "buying lastest version then replacing with this version" doesn't work anymore. Any other alternatives? Is a custom ROM the best option at the moment? I currently don't have the 60% battery OTA update installed, just the green battery icon at 100% (charging very slow). Thanks.
