blocking ads - BlackBerry KEYone Themes, Apps, and Mods

Hi all!
Which software do you use to block ads?
I have found some applications that do not require root, I will be happy to know your opinions.
- personalDNSfilter
- DNS66
- blockthis
- AdGuard
- AdClear
- some other?

Would like to hear this also.

Try netguard, it tunnels all your internet traffic through self VPN (not actual VPN with different servers etc), it has an a hosts file the the VPN knows how to filter all ads coming from all the url's in the hosts file.
That version isn't available on the play store due to the fact Google is not allowing manipulating ads.

I am using AdGuards on multiple devices and I am very satisfied.
For YouTube you have to do some more steps: https://kb.adguard.com/en/android/solving-problems/youtube-ads

[Answered][Cognition] Turn off ad blocking?

Hi,
I am currently using Cognition 4.4.8 by Design Gears. I understand he has implemented some sort of ad blocking which blocks ads in many apps and it seems some websites.
Now I love this in some apps, but there are others (XDA app) which I would like to support. Is it possible to modify these blocked settings to allow some apps or even disable it completely?
Thanks
Sid
Download AdFree Android from the Market then use the "revert hosts" option and it'll restore the hosts file to stock, which means no more ad blocking. You can then use the same app to update hosts file, which will start blocking ads again.
Thank you
That worked

Using NetGuard to prevent Amazon OTAs but allow Google services?

Has anyone tried using NetGuard or another firewall to prevent Amazon services from phoning home?
I have 5.3.1.0 on my Fire, so no root. But fortunately NetGuard doesn't need root.
I'm trying to find exactly which packages to block and allow to make sure Amazon can't update my OS, and preferably also block ads, while allowing the Play Store.
The problem I have been running into is that NetGuard lumps some services/apps together, so if I try to enable, for example, Android Contact Storage, it also enabled all of the Amazon contact related options, including all the social media connectors.
I haven't found a combination that allows me to login to Google but prevents system updates.
Has anyone successfully done this? I'd love some tips or maybe even an export of your NetGuard config.

This approach has proven unreliable on various Amazon device going all the way back to 2nd gen Tate:
- you can't block the relevant OTA services without root
- blocking by IP is only a temporary fix as Amazon rotates addresses
Despite claims to the contrary no local 'firewall' can be 100% effective without root access.

Thank you for the info. Just to be 100% sure, are you aware that NetGuard functions as a local VPN service, rather than using iptables? When connected to a VPN, the device should be sending all traffic that way. Whether it does or not, I can't actually say.

Yes, I was aware but good to ask the question. A VPN *should* capture all traffic. Whether it does on FireOS is the $64K question. To my knowledge there are no widespread reports of VPN effectiveness blocking Amazon OTA updates, but that could simply reflect the limited number of attempts. Until recently VPNs were rather difficult to understand/implement for most non-technical users.

How to block ads in Chrome and also free up the space taken up by the ads?

I have a Moto Z2 Play running a Pixel Experience Oreo (8.1) 64-bit ROM. I have TWRP, Magisk and Xposed Framework running. My browser is Chrome 70.0.3538.110 which is the latest stable release as of 5th of December 2018.
I have "AdAway", which works using the hosts file. It does work, however the space normally taken up by the ads is now taken up by a "sad face" icon as in the message Chrome shows when a page fails to load.
To me this is better than no ad-blocking at all, but one of the points of an ad-blocker is to remove clutter and use more display real-estate for actual content. Therefore, I am looking for a way to block ads in Chrome while also freeing up the space used by them so it can be used to show actual content. This is how most ad-blockers for desktop Chrome work.
I know that the newest Chrome Canary releases have a native ad blocker built in. However, it only blocks the most obnoxious ads. I am looking for a way to block all (or the great majority of) ads.

Dude use adguard and if your rooted use it in proxy mode so you can use a VPN at the same time if you need to so your filter ip can get ad blocking also

Mi room not able to access certain sites

I'm having issues with mi room not being able to access certain sites. It says connection refused. Also when I search items on Google and I click on the first link on the list usually an ad from Google it won't connect.
Anyone face this or knows a solution
Probably there is adblocker installed so it refuses to connect to ad sites from google and other mallicious sites. Another thing is that they maybe included their modified hosts file to block certain sites. I didnt tried mi room but have adaway installed and it gives similar results.
Basic list of changes : from mi room website
It uses its own correct ad blocking, which does not affect important Internet resources.

Blocking Websites and Accessibility Issues

Hello all,
I am trying to use an app (BlockSite) to block me from accessing certain websites. In order for the app to work, I have to give it access through the accessibility settings. However, everytime I restart my phone, the accessibility settings reeset. How can I fix this?
maybe you could try something like Adaway, it works in root and non-root modes. you can add sites to it's blacklist and it won't accept or allow traffic there.
blokada works great. It blocks ads and specific web site.
