Just purchased the Xperia X Performance last night! - Sony Xperia X Performance Questions & Answers

So I've owned the Sony Xperia X before but not the performance yet the supposedly flagship. I'm excited to see how it compares to the regular X. Has anyone had experience with both. How's the 820 processor in this phone? Oh and one other thing. I live in the US and I ordered the US version. I really want to use the fingerprint sensor. I heard you could flash some European firmware to the US version that will enable the fingerprint sensor. Does anyone know how to do this and could explain to me how I would go about doing it please? I really really want the use of the fingerprint sensor. By the way I found a deal on my Xperia X Performance. Still has a year left of warranty and I got it for $220 dollars!!

What's wrong with the 820 on the X Performance? I've watched several videos on it and it didn't seem to lag any at all. Where is it lagging at? I don't even recall my Xpreria X lagging really at all so I figured the X Performance would be the better device as I had planned on getting another X model until I found this one I got for $215. Felt like for a flagship type phone of 2016 that $215 wasn't bad at all compared to me paying $235 for the X model. I actually got the better of the two devices cheaper but I hate to hear that after I sold my Nexus 6p to buy the X Performance. The Nexus 6p was an awesome device but I did miss having a 5 inch screen or display.

I can just say that I was disappointed, had several issues with my performance. Touch was way off, performance of the quad core was not as expected, it was snappy to begin with though, battery was not that good. I bought an huawei mate 9 pro and it works great.

I got my X Performance in and the seller tried to take me for a ride. The screen was badly discolored at the bottom so I returned it and just bought the Xperia X model brand new instead. Does anyone know how to download the European firmware to flash my phone to enable the fingerprint sensor? I need some help with that badly. I can't figure how to get it done properly. Can anyone send me links and step me through the process? I would appreciate the help.

I'm in the same boat except that I'm using the performance model but I figured out how to download the firmware. I'm following this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=68903483&postcount=3
and this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGc0qNkZ9nw
Basically, to download the UK customized firmware, use XperiFirm.exe

Very much appreciated!! Hopefully I'll be able to figure it out with that. Quick question. Do I download the flashtool to my computer is that correct? Then proceed from there?

I did it all last night actually. First step is to make sure you have USB debug on and you phone is booted and plugged in with all drivers installed.
While I am grateful that developers take time to build such powerful tools, it was frustrating at first because the developers of Flashtool are geeks like many other devs and usually geeks don't create instructions and make things harder for you.
What frustrated me was that the Flashtool in the download page is NOT the most recent version. You actually have to download an extra file that is on the download page (the last file at the bottom) with no instructions as to where you should install that file. Dev laziness to update their main .exe. That file is needed or the firmware you download doesn't get installed!! Absolutely no indication that it's important and no instructions as to where to install it.
I figured it out on my own by trial and error. Here's where you install it. Go to C: > Flashtool and paste it in there and let it overwrite the current file x10flasher.jar. Then, you launch Flashtool.
I wasted time downloading XperiFirm as a separate copy also as no one mentioned that XperiFirm is included with Flashtool. By downloading a 2.6GB firmware file externally (XperiFirm not part of Flashtool), the installation failed. So after 2 more times of downloading that file, I realized, thanks to a YouTube video, that you should download it as part of Flashtool (you launch XperiFirm from Flashtool, which is the button on the right of the + icon).
Then, download the firmware customized UK. When it finishes, it will automatically unpack. Then, you close that window and you close the XperiFirm window and a pop-up appears in Flashtool, asking you to install or merge something, I forget (again, who would know that that's what you have to do?). You accept that pop-up. Wait, and then do not close Flashtool but unplug the phone.
Shut down the Sony phone, once shut down, hold the bottom volume button and while holding, plug in the phone to your USB cord in your computer. Keep holding that bottom volume button until you see hear your computer connecting to the Sony phone. My X Performance's LED lit up green, and screen was off.
If drivers are installed, you can proceed, if not, follow instructions to install them in the video I sent you or use the Xperia Companion Tool from Sony. Flashtool will let you know if they're installed.
Then, click that lightning icon in Flashtool, the one on the left, keep it as default "flashmode", click OK. Then, follow the video above at minute 5:50.
Let me know if it works out!

Worst purchase of your life, I totally regret I bought this phone.

If you just want an android phone, look at samsung or lg.
If you want Xperia now, go get t2 ultra, its screen is better, front cam is better, and runs 4.4.2 (same as ZR), and can app2sd.
The only situation when I will recommend this phone (again, in 09/2014) is the fact that it can switch batteries.

First of all, thanks
I want a phone not more expensive than this phone. I checked for T2 ultra. It's cpu, gpu, memory is lower than ZR
I just wanted to know if ZR devices have any particular problem? does it get new updates?
Thanks

Yes, the specs are slightly lower classed, but the ability to app2sd sort of nailed it.
As for update, for ZR, after the planned 4.4.4, I highly doubt 5.0 will ever come.
A very good phone

i think it is the best phone that you can get with the same price
very good phone and i have no issues with it and i can play any game without lag and it performs really good
about apps2sd i use foldermount and this is not a problem for me
the only thing is, that sony released a lot of updates to it and we might not see android L but android 4.4.4 is just days away

Price/Performance: I get around 33U$ I still find it worth the price, now some shop in my country was down price to 26U$.
Water-Resistance: I found it easier to clean, Use when you go to bathroom etc.
Prime camera: The main reason I'm still use Sony... Even an after-sales service suck so bad in my country.
Not Recommended
Price/Performance: Some phone have cheaper price with nearly performance: like Moto G, Xiaomi etc.
Water-Resistance port-cap: I found sometime it made me annoy to open, which quite difficult on this model(I'm use Xp Acro S before, it whole lot easier)
Front Camera: yeah let have VGA front cam... which can only find in a phone below 20 U$ (except from sony lol)
Speaker sound: Since it on the back of the phone you barely hear it clear or loud... except you turn it around, turn a volume up or used you hand to redirect a sound.
Internal Storage: 8GB.... while system eat up nearly 3GB. and no way to move app to SD card without a root.
And some rumor I heard was All Z series will have Android L for sure.
ps. I'm not good with english

Source from a shop in my country, Its in Thai language. that why I won't quote at first place.
If you want to read, here

They said
"Every Xperia phone in Z series going to have an update to Android L.
Congrats all of Z series owner.
The other series are not going to have it.
Got it?"
Still no more trust worthly source talk about this yet.
Cons: You pay extra for the xperia brand, get a Xiaomi or Oppo etc. if you dont care about waterproofing etc.
Pros: ITS WATERPROOF. Also its exactly the right size for a phone IMO.
Totally worth it.

A little help please (Permissions in Lollipop)

I just ordered a Z two days ago and I am looking for some answers
I'd like to modify or revoke the permissions of certain apps, as that can be very annoying if you have no root, and I only had (and rooted) HTCs and Samsungs before so I don't know how a Sony works.!
I was reading on rooting the Z, but now I'm afraid I might lose the quality of the Bravia engine by doing so...
My question is, can you modify/decline permissions in Lollipop without root? I couldn't find a straight answer and although there are apps on the Play Store advertising this, is it for real or is it just placebo?
Secondly, in case I root the Z, what do I lose? I've done my reading on the forums for the last week, beginning even before I made the purchase, but I'd very much appreciate some comments on this matter. Thanks
u wont lose bravia engine by rooting the XZ ... u lose it when u unlock the bootlaoder ...
for permissions in Android L i dont think u can do it without root access...
the only risk by rooting ur phone is that u do it wrong and softbrick ur phone
Thanks. I ordered 2 and the first one arrived and it greeted me with: "this is a prototype" and I'm inclined to believe it's a demo unit, as it has retail mode software on it. I will send it back on Monday.
One more thing - the photo quality was awful, I had an old Blackberry 9780 laying around and even that with a 5 mpx camera gave me better results! I also tried comparing it to an S2 and a Passport but man, does it suck!
I will receive a replacement, but I sure hope this is not how the regular Z behaves or else I might consider getting something else...

i think all of xz cameras hav a poor quality especially the front one .. but the camera software in lollipop is better than the one in older android version ... i too use to hav a prototype xz and it worked well for me... the only difference that it sends data constantly to sony and u cant disable this option

Thinking of getting this phone, have a few questions before I do..

1. How often do OP update their phones, do the older model get ignored compared to the new ones ?
2. How easy is it to unlock/flash new roms on this phone, since this will be my primary focus ?
3. How bad is touchscreen latency and camera performance with latest update ?
4. Should I be worried about bad after-sales here in UK ?
Please feel free to mention any other points about this phone that might help me in making my decision.
Cheers

1. i had an OPO and i guess it not supported anymore, but i installed a custom ROM the first day i got it and custom ROM support is amazing, there is still a big community. Guess there wont be many other devices being better off.
2. couldnt be easier. All u need to do is just follow the instruction given for the ROM. Support in this forum is also given.
3. For me the latency is the same as it feels with my gf's pixel phone. Camera i cant say much cuz the only fotos i do is about documents and writings. But these are super easy to read. I have no idea thogh how beautiful pictures will get.
4. what do u mean? there wont be any sales on the phone
I came from the D855 (G3) was a huge step i was going to wait for SD835 smartphone but my phone died, so i wanted something super fast, and unlocked, when i mean unlocked is a company that gives you acess to the hardware this is bootloader unlock, as many companys do NOT, the phone is tremendous fast, fingerprinting in 0.2sec it opens before you blink, the screen looks way better than my G3 which was the first 2k screen, its vivid and bright, dash charging is awesome it charge your phone way to fast xD, its the first phone that i dont need to let it in charger over night, 3.4A battery is more than enought, 8h+ of SOT? i had at must 1.5 to 2h of sot on my D855, huge huge difference, for the moment this is by a large margin the best device you can buy, as for the cameras or any other features i dont care, they do the work just fine, i have a mirrorless camera for photography so i dont care about the camera, its still packs a 16MP on front camera which get you a very sharp face if you are a selfie person, anyother i just got this phone by its hardware, super fast and cheap for a flagship? i spent 439 + karbon case this phone worth every penny, so go for it it feels very nice in the hand, and the metal its of nice quality! it even comes with a screen protector by default thats a nice touch from them! oneplus is a great company you wont Regret it!
1. How often do OP update their phones, do the older model get ignored compared to the new ones ?
OnePlus does a decent job but don't expect Nexus-grade updates. You'll mostly be relying on the XDA community.
2. How easy is it to unlock/flash new roms on this phone, since this will be my primary focus ?
Very Easy. Unlock bootloader from bootloader menu, flash twrp via fastboot, flash a custom rom and that's it.
3. How bad is touchscreen latency and camera performance with latest update ?
Touchscreen latency was never THAT bad unless you're a pretentious user. You shouldn't worry this because most custom kernels improve it, and at some point it will be fixed completely by OnePlus. Camera is decent, the sensor is the same as the one in V20. It's the processing that sucks compared to other phones, so don't expect much.
4. Should I be worried about bad after-sales here in UK ?
Not sure what you mean. But i'm certain you will be satisfied of the phone for the price paid.

HI,
Note: I had the op3 and now i am using the op3t from dec.
1. Updates on the op are fairly quick, as of now we have an open beta for 7.1.1 with march security patch. We will be getting the full update sometime in this month.
2.This is where the op devices shine the most. The op community is great, you will get the community app installed on the device. you can find all required the guides for unlocking, roms and troubleshooting there. The op3t has support for all the popular custom roms so you can get the updates asap.
3.The touch latency issue is still there but it is not that bad.The camera is not bad at all.Its a great camera for the price and takes great pics in good light conditions but the low light photos are not that great. If you are a serious camera buff you might be disappointed.
4.After sales is bad here in India. Its handled by a company called servify. Had the op3 and i broke it in 3 weeks of purchase. I had got their one year "accidental damage protection" thingy so i went to the service center fairly optimistic . After looking at the phone they said "the back of your is damaged and we do not cover cosmetic parts under our insurance, we will fix the screen for free". I was angry but agreed to get it fixed any way. After that they say if you want to go through our insurance you have to open a claim via the op app,we cannot do it here. I returned home did what they said and after two days i got a call from some shady insurance company refusing my claim saying there is something wrong with my paperwork.Even after doing all the things they said they still refused it. But I loved my phone so tried to get it repaired any way. Here op3 costs 28k. After making a claim they told me i have to pay 12k for the screen,10k for the back and 1k for repair . Thats 23k,roughly 83% of what i paid for the phone in the first place.

I was having same issue last week but now OK.
Thanks for the replies everyone.
One thing i am quite worried about is that like most companies the older models of OP have been not getting any updates from OP at all, e.g Android 7.0. Also custom ROM development on older models seems to be very slow and most major Dev have moved on to newer models unlike older Nexus which is still supported after all those years. I know I can get Nougat support via custom ROMs but support for old devices is one of the main things I am looking for, since I am planning to keep my phone for at least 2 years.
I think i am going to hold on to my G3 for a bit longer and see what other options are available later on during this year.

Edit: just look at the first OnePlus model and the 7.1.1 roms and kernels that are available and beeing actively supported, this is a 3 year old phone.
If you`re always looking for the next big thing or latest technology you can never ever buy a phone again. There will always be new devices that will be released throughout the year I ordered mine (coming from a iPhone 7 Plus) because i think and according to the reviews its a solid phone for a descent price.

Overall love

Yes, yes, it's possible to love a phone. Heck, you sleep next to it, don't you? Rate this thread to indicate your love for the LG Q6, all things considered. A higher rating indicates that the LG Q6 is an incredible phone that you enjoy tremendously. You love it.

A little bit but less than my previous moto x play.
I dont play games. Only web browsing, youtube,...
1. Processor struggles to deliver for the display. Lot of during while using Twitter and similar apps that requires lot of scrolling.
2. Lot of heating doing the above.
3. No quick charge.
4. Speaker is in the bottom; ring sound gets muted if kept on soft surfaces like sofa or bed.
Given the price point, all of these should have been addressed (SD450 for 1, 2 & 3 and proper placing of speakers).
Finger print is also missed by many, though I don't miss it.
Also No NFC in India
What I dislike about the phone is that LG doesn't seem to care about it anymore.
It was released not too long ago, but an Android 8.0 update seems to be really unlikely.
I didn't find anything on the internet in this regard... does anyone else now, if an update is planned or asked LG about it?

I have experience with LG phone from around a year. I developed ROMs for LG K10 with help of other developers.
Forget about updates when you buy a LG phone. Forget, security patches. LG K10 got only 1 security patch update and was stuck at Lollipop.
Don't buy a LG phone ever again.
This phone isn't even rootable (at least my model version is afaik), sad thing is i'm stuck with this phone for 2 years (got one from a postpaid plan). never getting another lg phone again.
Someone sad that this phone is no more supported with updates. I have security pach from february. Love this phone. No issue at all. It will get 8.0. Be sure. Also someone sad that he's stuck on lollipop on k10, and that phone is on marshmallow. Problem is country where you bought a phone and that's all. Playing mortal kombat x, without sd card, and it's not buggy or heating.
Love this phone, the display is beautiful. I'm using this phone from January until now, for multitasking and watch movie or YouTube it's okay, battery not drain to fast. But, if you use to play heavy game like Rules of Survival or PUBG the battery drain so fast because the phone start to heat and it's normal in my opinion.

The phone is beautiful, the gloss back and it's design is wonderful. The only 3 downsides of this phone is that it has a pretty weak CPU considering it is not that cheap of a device.
The sencond thing: the speaker is placed like in the K10, and the third downside is....that I can't play PUBG properly...yup
But the device itself is really wonderful. I just can't wait for the devs to find a way on how to unlock the bootloader and then we can make some progress in this bit...
I guess they don't wanna void everyone's warranties for now.

Try this to make PUBG (or other game) little bit smooth to play on this phone.
Open settings -> battery & power saving -> select game battery saver -> select custom -> configure PUBG to normal resolution or low resolution.
I hope this steps will help to solve the problem
I like the way the phone looks, thats why i bought it (previous phone was a g2). But man no custom rom support, cuz bootloader is (still) locked??? If i knew this in advance, i would heave chosen the p20, smart (Huawei) or g5+ (motorola).

I also forgot to add...
The ROM update that LG stated it would come in May, in the end, the update will probably launch on November, latest in early 2019.
Quite an embarassing point with LG, I know. They deliver the phone without that much updates, thinking they are pretty confident with themselves that the phone is very optimized, but in the end, they have added so much bloatware to the ROM that you can't actually breath with it!
Also, the method of unlocking bootloader isn't even found yet, nor will it be revealed for the next 2 years! ( unless it is revealed by our great devs at XDA )
So no deeper thinking for devs yet!
Overall, the phone is stunning by it's design, the impressive display that some times has problems with sharpening the *CRISPY* details leading to oversharpening the image.
Also, it's processor isn't that impressive for it's price after all, Snapdragon 435 isn't that enough. And 300-400 dollars price point?! Nah, nobody would even think about buying it unless because of it's design... <3<3<3 ( well, the price has lowered where it should be, LG has always some crazy prices when released)
The GBs of RAM are enough, but I think the CPU is helping with the bottlenecking in certain tasks, for example when applying the 16:9 resolution to a game/application that uses all the power, which for this phone isn't enough than for watching some HQ videos and so on.
But we love it! We sure do! ( I think? )

Is it an official statement or just your assumption?

Z3 Force is coming tomorrow

Guys, the Z3 Force is coming tomorrow :victory: and will be available for purchase sometime in September. It will probably feature a curved ShatterShield screen, face unlock, 3 cameras on the back like the attached render (all leaked renders were true), Snapdragon 845 processor, 6/64GB and maybe 8/128 storage, no front facing LED flash for some reason. Moto will also show a 5G Moto Mod with a built in power pack (hopefully).
Who is buying it? I'm getting one for sure.
I found a couple of hint links but none of them show any pictures:

I'm really hyped because everyone was saying no Force Edition this year.
The one they announced today doesn't seem to be the flagship. Hopefully we get the true Moto Z3 Force flagship at IFA at the end of the month. Impressive that they managed to keep all the leaks away. It caught everyone by surprise.

Nope. No Z3 Force, at all. (As a new user, can't post a link - here's the tweet: twitter.com/MotorolaUS/status/1025121824550662149)
Disappointing to see a company that comes up with so many cool ideas make so many bad choices.

Wtf. That is really stupid. We are stuck with the european Z² Force as a flagship then (it has 6GB of RAM). It runs really well but everyone was expecting more from them this year...
Seems that the Z³ is the Z³ Play for Verizon. It's identical.

Just checked the specs on analysis for the z3 (not force) and is it really worth getting you might as well stick with the z2 force same specks as ours bet they've just used old z2 force parts. I'm pretty sure you guys will get that 5g mod working to

So it's just a US Z2 Force with the same processor and camera in a Z3 Play body.
That is really stupid.
Thing is, they said in a interview that the 5G moto mod is not the last one and they will continue with the mods. WTF.
Maybe the community manager from Twitter mistaken and there will be another one this year?
I mean seriously, they are making such a big thing in their presentation that 50% of the Moto Z owners have a mod too, so how can such a big company miss the opportunity to make loads of $$$$$$ because everyone using the first gen skipped the second gen to buy the third gen Moto Z (and they made it Verizon exclusive and not available outside US) + the ones using the second gen wanting the latest and greatest with better specs so they can keep using the mods they invested in for 2 more years. Z3 Force would have been a TOP seller.
Hey, since it releases with 8.1, that means it has a vendor partition. This means we can use those blobs to easily port over treble since hardware is near identical. Our treble beta builds in discord have a few quirks but those blobs would make it have near zero issues besides audio hal for motomods due to the way it routes to the ROM.

Yeah, maybe even port the entire Android 10 ROM when Moto stops supporting the Z2 Force and the other one recieves the update.
So no flagship this year my friends. The global Z2 Force is the more powerful device still with 6GB ram. Now we only need a fully working Google Camera and that would be awesome. Anyone willing to donate some $ to a developer so they can make a proper port? I'm willing to do so.
So I got the z3. It really makes my z2 look horrible.lol
I'm really happy with it.(sold my note 8 to get it)
Also I love were the new fingerprint sensor is for what it's worth.

Does it support Daydream by Google? Can you try to download it from the Play Store and tell us if it works?

Yes, but we can't get it in europe, right? Very sad.
I have never used daydream. I dont have a vr headset to test it with
If the specs are not that much different, then why buy one.. It has 3 cameras, and 5G which is not full out yet... Seems like a waste to me..
Basically the same specs as a 1000$ device...my note 8 only had 6 gbs of ram because it wouldn't accomplish anything with the 4.
Maybe I was just unhappy with my note 8 after not being able to even put a good screen protector on it....
I just see a lot of bad hype online from people who probably don't even have/use mods or are not invested in Moto mods.
If you loved the z2 than you are definitely going to love the z3. The new exterior is awesome.

Super, that means the Z3 is compatible with Daydream even with it's lower resolution screen!
Thanks!

That's crazy. Why do the Z3 have just full HD? No go today. I watch Netflix on it and by Full HD I can see all the pixels. So quad HD is needed. I watch movies im a distance of less centimeter. But quad HD is really ok, 4k, the better resolution, is not needed. Around 500-600dpi and I'm happy
Do the comprising I will stick with the Z2 for what I do.. In 6 months, people will be saying O my god, they are coming out with a z4 and it is so much better than the z3 or z2 was... If that is your thing, so be it. You will make the manufacture very happy with your wallet. LOL
