Unlocked surplus AT&T G920A sold in Australia - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S6

Hi, I bought a "refurbished" (Appears Brand new) Galaxy S6 SM-G920A from a company in Melbourne, Australia. it came in a sealed Samsung box. The phone is legit, as I have spoken to Samsung about it. I can use a local telco supplied SIM to make and receive calls - therefore AT&T have unlocked the device prior to disposal. I am guessing that AT&T had a bunch of these left over due to arrival of S7 and S8 etc...
It is full of AT&T Applications which I cannot uninstall. I can live with this, however I cannot use "wifi calling" in Australia because It appears to be locked to an AT&T account? (which I dont have!!!) I would like to talk to AT&T about this via live chat - but - I can't get to them because I dont have an AT&T phone number or account. Any thoughts on how I can contact them?
Is it possible to overwrite the supplied firmware with a standard generic Samsung firmware that would allow this phone to act like an "unlocked" phone in Australia? Note that I am not interested in rooting the device because I want Samsung Pay operable...

Unlocked S5 for different carriers

I have T-Mobile and recently purchased an unlocked, brand new S5 that is AT&T branded - the box, case say ATT and it has some ATT apps on it. It appears to work fine on T-Mobile. However, would it be better to purchase T-Mobile specific version and return AT&T one? The price is about the same.
Thanks!

AT&T Galaxy S6 128GB

I am wondering if the 128gb of the S6 (non-edge) from AT&T (without contract) is easily unlockable to be used in Europe.
Are there any issues with unlocking?
All the requirements for unlocking a device at att.com/deviceunlock. You also submit the request from that same site. However if you plan on rooting the phone and can afford to just pay full price I would reccomend you get a international g920f instead of the at&t g920a so that you have more options for rooting and modding as the at&t is tightly locked down and cannot be rooted on the latest updates
Hmm. On that page it says this:
Prepaid / GoPhone®
The device must be active for at least six months of paid service.
So I guess you can't just buy it and unlock it right away?
Exactly but again if you can afford to pay full price for go phone you'd be much better off getting the international g9020f and its unlocked by default

Someone helped me remotely unlock the Note 8 already but I have questions.....

My note 8 is already unlocked(remotely by someone using my computer). I bought this device for my father in Hong Kong and he will be leaving in 3 days. I just worry if the network will be locked by itself again once he goes back to Hong Kong, will this happen? What should I do to prevent this? Currently I am not paying it off yet. Should I flash a rom to avoid this situation? But I want to keep the warranty......... PS, I already ran several software updates and it seems that no problem so far......
Flashing firmware or root will not address your issue. These methods alone cannot and do not prevent a blacklist.
If you've unlocked the phone but haven't paid it off AND have no intentions to pay it off, be aware that T-Mobile reserves the right to restrict access to their network OR outright blacklist the phone across North America.
Said phone would continue to function outside North America but NOT with a T-Mobile SIM or on ANY other North American cellular network.
To make it active again for North American use, you would need to get the IMEI changed by a third-party.
But if you have every intention to pay the bill off, you'll suffer no consequences in North America.
Even if you DON'T pay off the bill and the device resides overseas for the foreseeable future, a North American blacklist won't affect an unlocked device with a foreign SIM in a foreign country.
If they unlocked it already and you used a different SIM card with this phone (even from the same country) then there will be no issues with a foreign (Hong Kong) SIM.
Peculiar story, why buy expensive Note 8 in USA for someone in HK? Phones are much cheaper in HK.
Moreover warranty will create issues in HK, as US branded Note 8 (SD) will not be serviced under waranty by Samsung HK.

How to buy the right Note 9 for the US

I'm considering buying a Note 9. I usually buy a year old model of a flagship phone when the prices come down. I see lots of Note 9 phones on amazon for reduced prices. It appears there are several different models and the descriptions from the sellers are usually not clear.
I saw another thread that said all the US versions were the same hardware. Can I buy an unlocked Sprint, Verizon, AT&T, or T-Mobile phone and use it on any carrier? I will mostly be using AT&T and T-Mobile for now.
How could I tell if a phone is the US non-carrier branded model?
Can I flash a more universal ROM to a carrier branded phone and get rid of the carrier bloatware? Will the universal ROM still pass MDM security checks so I can use it with my company's MDM (Intune)?

Buy the USA unlocked model U1. You can then flash the USA T Mobile or AT&T rooms should you wish.
However, I also read that AT&T doesnt allow full network speeds for non AT&T devices. Maybe someone with an unlocked U1 on AT&T can chime in.

I have been running unlocked bought directly from Samsung phones since the note7 and I use them on AT&T. I am in Wyoming, and have noticed no loss of speed. I have Verizon for work phone and my unlocked phones is always faster in speed tests . Not very scientific buy my experience.

Question Still carrier branded?

It's been a while since i have had a Samsung device so i thought i would put the message to the Samsung users, are they still branded with the carrier bootup screen like they used to be? If so is a carrier branded device limited by access to beta updates(My Huawei P30 Pro this wasn't possible)? I understand Knox is still a thing and i don't want to end up tripping it, deciding between ordering from Three UK on Contract or direct from Samsung. Any info is appreciated.
Cheers
My last Vodafone purchase (S8+) didn't have any branding on boot up.
S10 direct from Samsung was as it came from the factory.
S21 Ultra ordered from CPW today on Voda contract should be free from any branding as well i would imagine.

Good to hear, went with upgrading through three. Their phones are unlocked as well so i can use dual sim and they are doing a good trade in offer on top.
