Hi everyone,
I have this phone SGS i9000 but i am constantly running out of memory. Now i got the new Sims game which uses so much ram... Many times the device just starves for ram and reboots itself...
Is it possible to add more HARDWARE ram to this device?
I use Darky roms on my device and checked if i can enable some sort of swap but it is not possible or reasonable...

it's almost impossible without soldering knowledge and a LOT of investigation
just forget a bout it
How would you add this to the PCB? I don't think there is any space left. This is not plug and play, more an embedded device. And how about the other hardware? You also need additional controllers and such things.
--> Impossible.
If you want extra ram you have to buy a new phone
What about swap memory?
hm.. i9000 is realy a low ram device.. i sell my sgs and buy a sgs2 .. a great device
my girlfrend have also 500mb ram device, she use "rammanager root" (search @play-store) it have nice settings and work realy good..
try the demo/trail.. use hardcore game mode for the sims maybe it helps a little bit

Nope, 329MB is user accessable, 128MB is reserved for the graphics card. 55MB is inaccessible because it prevents the device from freezing up when ram is near full.
I will never buy device with less then 2GB of RAM anymore then!
Give the poor device a break, its old already.
Mate I'm running a tsunami ROM in my sgs and it has an 392mb of ROM. And this solved all my ram problems
Tried zRam?
I have an S plus (nearly the same) and i have 358mb of RAM..
Wtf guys this was posted in March, why did you revive this thread?

Hi,
Replying really late , but there is a possible way >> check below -
What advantages of increasing ram on Galaxy S
Running multiple number of application at background.
Games will run smooth without any lagging.
Clear the ram memory to make your device faster.
How to Get More Ram on Galaxy S Cyanogenmod CM10 Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean and CM 9 ICS 4.0.4 Custom ROM.
Make sure that your custom rom is loaded with devil kernel or not. For that you can check Go to Settings->About Phone. Scroll down there you can see kernel version of present rom.
Note: So if your custom rom is loaded with different kernel then you need to change it into devil kernel version.
1. Download below zip files based on your Android OS.
For ICS get here.(file name Devil3_1.0.3-ICS_i9000_CFS_BLN_CMC_20120724.zip and you can also check latest kernel version and download it)
For JB get here. ( file version 1.0.4)
2. Copy the zip file into phone sd card.
3. Turn off the device and boot into recovery mode. For that you need to press and hold Volume Up + Home + Power button together.
4. When you enter into clockworkmod recovery mode. Select the “install zip from sd card” choose the kernel zip file which you copied earlier in your phone sd card storage.
5. The kernel flashing process will take 1 min. After that reboot the device. That’s it done now your device is fully working with devil kernel.
Note: The Above process is only for who don’t have devil kernel in their Custom Rom. If you’re custom rom is already loaded with devil kernel that you can avoid above process.
Follow below steps:
1. Download devil kernel config app from Google Play here or you can get apk from here.
2. After installing the app on Galaxy S device. Go to app list section there you can see an icon with devil logo and of that app is devil kernel configure.
2. Open the application there you can get Ram Settings Option.
3. Click on it and it will show you three options of ram CM9 368 MB, XL 391 MB and last one big mem 403 Mb. Select Big mem 403 MB to make it done.
4. On the top right side. Click on setup and it will ask you to save the ram settings.
5. When you finalized the settings it indicates to restart the phone in order to make the changes.
6. After rebooting the device. Open the task manager there you will get 403 MB of Ram.
Finally you unlocked more ram on Galaxy S Device running Cyanogenmod 10 Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean ROM.
Rgds,
Kaustav.
You can use swapper from the Google play.
Swapper create a file .swap on your sdcard and this is the RAM :fingers-crossed:
I have samsung galaxy s plus, cyanogenmod 10-20121226-ivendor-alpha6-ariesve, android version 4.1.2, kernel version [email protected] #112...how can i install this devil kernel to increase memory ram to 403? Forgot to mention that i have JellyBean

If you do install that kernel you brick your phone. Check the Samsung galaxy s plus section please

This is not really a viable option...
The flash drive is infinitely slower compared to RAM.
Any game demanding more RAM than can be accessed without writing to/from swap would be unplayable.

Rom: Mackay rom 4.9.14 (4.4.4 kitkat)
Kernel: 3.0.101-KK44-x-aries-cma
Ram: 415MB
Lack of RAM is what made me upgrade from this glorious phone to the S4.
As time went by, Android apps got bigger and heavier, making the Galaxy S unusuable alas.
Hi guys
A friend of mine has a problem: his Galaxy keeps restarting randomly for no reason, many times in a day while using it.
What is weird: the phone hasn't ever been rooted/flashed with a custom rom, neither updated, always been 100% original. Just a normal usage!
I'm not much into this phone, so i don't know if it's a known issue or what.. but it sounds strange to me, possible hardware problem? Needs to be flashed or rooted? Other?
I've already done a factory reset and now i took off the sd-card to see if it could be it, but i'd appreciate some advices!
Thanks
Try updating it with kies, might help but can't guarantee
if random reboots happens while using too much mobile resources then its normal for galaxy mini like phone
Random Reboots might be device specific or not , It depends.
But you may want to visit the samsung care center in your vicinity area just to be sure about the latter .
Else just flash a new stock Rom via ODIN (not that it would leave your device impure as rooting does ).

Is Froyo the last "official" release or was a Gingerbread leaked/official firmware released? I'll probably try flashing something, don't know yet if a custom rom could solve the problem but still it's a possibility

With mobile resources you mean 3G/wifi or RAM? By the way in both the cases i don't think it's the problem, since there aren't many apps in background and the only one using internet connection is whatsapp!
Thanks for the replies :good:

The last official android update for for sgm was gingerbread based api.
Try flashing the stock gingerbread on the device via odin (google it if you don't know how to.) and then try custom roms.
Also the thing about resources, you already know about our sgm aka lil'g . Its not that powerful as most quad core latest devices boosted by plenty much RAM. So multitask on it wisely.

I'll try with gingerbread when i see my friend, thanks! I own a i9000 and flashed pretty much so i know odin and similar stuff, no problem
And yes i tried the mini many times, doesn't have a bunch of ram but still i think it can't be a ram-lack problem since it did the same also after the factory reset, with few apps installed!
Thanks again for the help :good:
Oh, was forgetting: how does the cyano run on the mini? Smooth? Battery killer or ok for everyday use?
Try cm7 by mebitek. Despite its source code is old and official cm7 is way more ahead of it, the mebitek's cm7 relays on battery & performance like a pro..
by resources I mean more ram and CPU usage
background apps ( they don't play big role as they get closed automatically)
running big games (HD one)
etc.
if you have many apps, cut the .android_secure folder and paste it on your computer.. i had this problem with the stock GB 2.3.6.. reboots reboots and reboots!! i pasted the folder in my comp, delete unnecessarily used apps and VOILA! it was running smooth again.. but now i'm using cm7..
I updated to official gingerbread release, then after putting all the (few) apps into phone storage i removed every android-secure file!
I'll see how it goes with this, if the problem remains i'll try a cyano or go directly to the service center
Thanks again for the tips!

You can't increase the actual ram, but you can get SWAP. Erm SWAP is a partition that will be created on your SD card on which the users inactive processes will be moved. This will free up physical ram for the OS and the active applications
go to first link in my sig
Buy a better phone for more RAM..

Hi,
I'm on rxtreme 7.1 and use my external SD for anything I can. My phone storage is 10.92gb. I wouldn't worry about it
Hope you enjoy the rom, its a the best I've tried
Sent from my GT-I9305 using Tapatalk 2
Me too... but not a problem.. i think i9305 has slightly less available memory than i9300.. but normally any phones' available memory will always be less than stated by the company... like my 32gb sandisk memory card.. available memory is aroumd 29gb.. its normal so dont worry about it
Cheers!
Hi,
For some reason, suddenly, my Tablet is reporting only 333 MB of Free Space, when I actually have Gigs of it left and now, I can't even install an app! The Total Space reported is correct. All is fine with the Total & Free Space on the External SD Card.
Asus Transformer TF701T Tablet
Jelly Bean 4.3, Rooted
I ran "Storage Analyzer" on it and it reports about 5 GB of Free Space. But as I said, I cannot install an app (out of space error) and when I look at "Storage" in my device's Settings, it says that I only have 333 MB of Free Space left.
Has anyone seen this before? Does anyone have any idea what the problem is and how to fix it, please?
Thank You.
I'm still having this same problem and it's exactly 5 GB off. Please, any ideas???

The problem got worse after a Factory Reset/Wipe. I was then missing 20GB!
I did finally fix it tho! Back on track now!
