OnePlus Camera App Complete Overview With Full Manual Mode Tutorial - OnePlus 5 Guides, News, & Discussion

First of all only those with a OnePlus 2 / X / 3 / 3T / 5 on Oxygen OS ( or if you are using an OOS camera port on a custom ROM ) could actually benefit from this.
If you don't have the OnePlus Camera app then you could download the latest version of the app from app mirror.
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/oneplus-ltd/oneplus-camera/
( Version 2 of the app can only be used by OnePlus 5 owners and all the versions in between and including 1 to 1.5 can be used by OnePlus 3/3T owners. )
So there will be two parts of this overview, in the first one I'll show you how to navigate basic things in the app itself along with the video stabilization capability it offers and what everything it shows means and in the second part I'll give you a basic overview of the the pro/manual mode this app offers.
[ The overview(s) will be in the form of video as it would easier for me to explain and much easier for others who are watching to understand. ]
PART 1
One thing that is commendable about this app is that it offers all the basic things in a non cluttered manner which makes it easier to use and navigate.
PART 2
If you are the kind of person who knows nothing or very little about manual mode then watch this but if you are the kind of person who knows everything basic I'll suggest you to give this thread a read : 2
So guys if you still weren't able to understand something related to this topic, let me know I'll try my best to help you understand that thing better.
Btw if you are a kind of person who likes to try different apps, camera apps in this case then I'll suggest you to try these apps which according to myself are the best( All of them can be downloaded from the play store. )
Free Apps: Bacon Camera, Footej.
Paid Apps: Camera FV5 Pro, Cinema FV5 Pro.
Paid ( Pro ) : FilmicPro

Surely, I have the camera app as part of the O/S? What’s extra in the app linked above?

Nothing extra but you could always check that site to see if there is an updated version the app available.

Cinema fv5 pro is a great app for filming. FilmicPro is probably better. They bring slightly different interfaces and more control over settings than the OS app.

Dual Camera App Alternatives?

Are there any apps on the market that can utilise the dual cameras of the P9? In particular the post shot depth of field effect. I know the Google Camera app does something similar, but it's nowhere near as good.
I'm quite to donate to the person who ports the stock camera app! :good:
Huawei uses kirin processors and most of the other camera apps are especially made for snapdragon or mediatek. So its difficult to port such apps to work on armeabi platforms

NPU Compatible apps

Hi all,
I'm opening this thread to make a list the apps that are actually taking advantage of the NPU.
I will start with the camera app but there is also the microsoft translator app, customized for the kirin's NPU
- Camera app
- Microsoft translator
Do you know any other app ?

Only thing I heard except these app it's that NPU can recognize your habits in order to optimize phone experience.
I read also a paper that told we have to wait for Oreo 8.1 in order to have another app which work with NPU but I didn't understand why
Yes I should have mentioned that it can learn our habits, but it's quite opaque, we cannot really quantify it.
Have you more informations about these apps in the 8.1 update ?

Totally agree
No more information sadly.
I'm gonna try to find where I read that but not sure I can.
I just know it was on reddit.
Oreo 8.1 I believe will bring an API for neural networks (NNAPI). What's not clear is how this will impact the Mate 10 or if the Huawei guys will support it given they have an API also. Hopefully they will and we get lots of apps making use of it. Could be the 8.1 API will be solely for the Pixel2 chip which had been dormant until 8.1 turned it on.

Yes let's see what they'll do because for the moment ... we have not too much to see.
Hello,
Using the Huawei AppGallery you can install the Prisma HiAi that uses the NPU to create the photo filters whit out using the cloud; it's limited to only some NPU enabled filters but the results are quite fast.
As a computer scientist I can safely say the NPU has nothing to do with "learning your habits". There's absolutely no reason to use neural networks in a simple as heck scenario like that. A basic frequency table would suffice.
I think the "learns your habits" is just a big of a gimmick as the NPU is right now, since nothing is using it to its potential.
The 'learning your habits' was part of Mate 9 marketing, and that didn't have an NPU.

Doesn't work on my Mate 10 non Pro. You definitely sure it works on the Mate 10 series? That app is from the P20 Pro range.

I tieid to download it and test it on my Mate 10. The first filters does not work, but from "Aviator" and the rest it works fine. Some of them are very cute.

Does android have Halide type camera app for Note 8?

Does android have Halide type camera app for Galaxy Note 8? I wonder why android dont have great camera apps like iOS have like I miss Hipstamatic a lot!!
Is there any great camera app which can replace Note 8 stock camera app?
Is this a joke post? I've got a Note 8 and an iPhone 7+ and I think you've just not looked at the Play Store or more basically GTMF'er. I own Halide and use it on my 7+ but I also have apps like FV5 which is a TOTAL manual camera app and pretty damn nice. Maybe do a bit of research before posting this nonsense.

1. I told you Camera FV5 is awesome and is an Android Camera
2. I told you have an iPhone 7+ currently with Halide (and on a side note ProCam4).
3. I don't care that you started with the iPhone 4 as I've had v1, though v6S and now a 7. So put your boasting back into your pants.
I've also had quite a few Android phones starting the G1 ... who cares how many phones you or I have had honestly.
I've used and paid for several Android Cameras but the manual camera that has turned out to be the bet so far is Camera FV5 Pro
So yes, when you say there are NO good camera apps on Android and have a Note 8 which has a very nice stock camera app and there are others on the Playstore then folks have to ask if you are joking or just haven't actually looked. But whatever .. tantrums are the lifeblood of society today.

Camera FV5 is a pathetic app go read its reviews on play store, it lags it hangs & stop working while taking photos and it's nowhere supposed to be a professional app, there's no compression with Halide app!!!
I introduced a friend with Open Camera. As a professional photographer, he was astonished by its capabilities, where as to me it seemed like rocket science. But then again, i take like 3 pictures a year.

Anyone manage to get Asus Remote Camera app working on Zenwatch 3?

I have the Asus Remote Camera app installed on my phone, but it doesn't appear on my Zenwatch 3 (which is running the latest stock firmware). Does anyone know if there's a way of getting this app to work on the Zenwatch, as I really miss the remote shutter feature.

The camera app that comes with the watch is no longer compatible it's too old.
If you want a excellent Remote Camera app for the watch here is the
playstore link for "Wear Camera":
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ua.makeev.wearcamera&hl=en
This is the best one, it not only lets you see thru it's "virtual" viewfinder but it
also let's you take videos as well as snapshots and has many other features.
Good luck, have a great day!

Thanks for that. The app seems the work well on the Zenwatch. The only feature that it lacks compared to the Asus Remote Camera app, and it's quite a big one, is the ability to take a photo by turning your wrist. This is unbelievably useful if you're holding the phone with your arm outstretched (e.g. a selfie or an overhead shot), as in that situation you don't have a spare hand available to press the shutter on the watch! I've submitted it as a feature suggestion to the developer.

Google camera on Red Magic 3?

Is it possible to got the Google camera software on the Red Magic 3 WITHOUT ROOT?
I'm seriously considering buying this phone but I want to be able to take great photos.

You never need root for Google Cam. You only need someone to make it work with the device.
So far, no luck.
But, the camera is already great. It has the same sensor as Oneplus 7 pro and that phone is one of the highest on the dxomark list:
https://www.dxomark.com/category/smartphone-reviews/
I compared the camera to Galaxy S9, and it seems to take better photos than GS9.
But yeah, Google Cam would make it even better.
Yes. U can use gcam for Nubia red magic 3. But 3 features not working
Potrait
Night sight
Slow motion

Which apk?
<Mod edit: Quoted post deleted>
I didn't have watsapp. Why don't you point it out from this website?
https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/
I am using the xiaomi mi9 port that is in the google camera thread in XDA. It works well.

Do you happen to have the apk exact name? Also, are you using a config file?
EDIT: I tried both apks in the MI9 thread with two suggested config files.
I only shot in a dimly lit indoors scene, and the results were horrible (both 48 and 12 mpx.) Difficulties to focus. Noise was so bad, I've never seen anything like that before.
By comparison, the stock camera was like night and day, so much better.
I am using the following apk... GCam-6.2.030_Arnova8G2_Urnyx05-v1.8.apk
I also get better results with the stock camera, but I was assisting in the thread. Also if you look at the OnePlus 7 pro they have some exposure settings that do assist with the dark results.

No fault of your own, thanks for the extra info.
What do you mean "they have some exposure settings" though? Some kind of a config file?
Also, it seems like unless someone buys the phone and sends it to Arnova, the Google Cam may not really come to fruition for this phone.
At the same time, I'm well satisfied with the stock camera app. It just doesn't have the same processing power as the Google Cam at preserving detail.
