installing gapps, and twrp big problem(loop), any help? - Xperia Z3 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

first of all apologized for the bad English, and also I admit that I am a newbie.. I hope not to say stupid things
my problems are:
-I cannot access normally to to twrp, but I need certanly to lauch fastboot on powershell so that I can access to twrp (I cannot access to twrp with combination of power button and the level down, it go on loop with system),
-If I try to install a extra package, like gapps, it indicates that it installs it, but the reboot goes into loop, making me regain indefinitely at twrp, (I have a os, AIM rom, the last version
any help/solution?

Did you try Flashtool yet? Do you have AIM zip file on your phone? Did you unlock bootloader before flashing custom rom?

[Q] Rooting Questions and Advice

I am a root noob, i rooted my HTC Desire HD a few years ago, but then, it just seemed easier. Now i want to root and install a custom rom on my xperia Z, but it seems all the guides are made for experts? so i google'd and seemed to get hold of a guide, but not sure if its correct or outdated, i obviously dont wanna brick my phone.
So, first question, can someone link me to a valid, easy guide / tutorial, or atleast some reading material on how to root my Z? its the s6603, with Android version 4.4.2.
Secondly when it comes to custom roms, once again, it feels like there is no more guides for dummies like me, i know on my desire, i used to copy the zip over, erase a few things, and then install from zip, and it was flashed, but now i see things like this
Install instructions:
first time
- power off the phone:
- hold vol+ and plug usb to boot into fastboot (blu led)
- fastboot flash boot boot.img (from cm10 zip)
- fastboot reboot
- enter recovery, on boot led will be violet for 3'', during this period press vol+
- flash rom zip
- flash gapps zip
- wipe
- reboot
Click to collapse
This makes sense, except for the :
- hold vol+ and plug usb to boot into fastboot (blu led)
- fastboot flash boot boot.img (from cm10 zip)
- fastboot reboot
What is fastboot, googling a bit it seems its a program i should install on Windows?
the boot.img, do i copy that out of the cm10.zip file?
To where, the phones SD Card? to Windows?
fastboot reboot, does this mean reboot the phone from fastboot? or is that the command that should be typed in?
Sorry if i come off as dumb, i am not, im just a noob. And i dont want the info spoonfed to me, i like to do my own research before asking stupid questions, but the info on the internet, is just to much, no 2 articles are talking about the same method, programs, etc
Thanks,
To root use towelroot.
To flash firmware use flashtool.
You can find tutorial on flashtool here somewhere.

Hi
To root your device first download app called TOWELROOT just install it and open it then click the button then go and install SUPER SU APP FROM HERE
and open it. You will get a popup window saying SuperSU binaries need to be updated. Click ok and then NORMAL wait until it's finish and you rooted your phone now
And the FASTBOOT:
fastboot is a boot mode that the device go into it to modifie some system things without need to permission from the device or rooting. BUT the fastboot flash boot boot.IMG is a command that you type in in the command prompt window (CMD) but you need to unlock the device's bootloader to do that or.. You will get COMMAND DID NOT SUCCESS error in CMD
Fastboot reboot command used to get the device out from fastboot mode. Use it instead of unplugging it
and as I told you fastboot not software or app. That zip file you download is drivers to make the PC recognise the device in the fastboot mode and you need to open the command prompt window in the folder you extract the fastboot drivers or it's can be also called ADB or Android debug bridge and the boot.IMG file you need to extract in from the the ROM you trying to flash and put it in the same folder you extracted fastboot drivers

Sorry, but i am still stuck, i installed the tr.apk, that went fine, then i installed SuperSU, it asked me to update, then it asked a message about Normal or TRWM/CWM(?), i choose normal, but it said failed, and i had to reboot phone, i did this, and superSU was installed, so i tried to fastboot, i got into fastboot, it detected the device, but it said
Sending boot (10132 KB) ...
OKAY
writing 'boot'...
FAILED (remote: command not allowed)
finished
i then rebooted with fastboot, and thought maybe that superSU was not fully installed?
so i went into superSU, and saw there was an option to clean and reinstall, i did that, it asked for the same update again normal or TRWM/CWM, and i chose the second option TRWM/CWM, it said it will reboot phone, and so it did.
I then went to play and downloaded an app to see if i have root, when it opened superSU popped up and asked if i wanted to grant access, i accepted.
but the program came back and said i dont have root?
So where is the poblem, with tr.apk? or supeSU.
Thanks for helping the noobie

To check whether you are rooted or not download root checker app from play store and install.
The app will show your root status.
Thats what I did?
After installing tr.apk, I clicked on the make it ra1n button. And root checker says im not rooted.
Will I mess up if I try the process again?
Should I maybe dona factory reset first? Before trying again
Thanks

I dont, but i am busy downloading it now
I checked again, I took the chance and re-ran tr.apk, and clicked on "make it ra1n" again, i then went RootChecker, and it confirms i have root access.
So, off to superSU again, and it asks again to "The SU binary needs to be updated. Continue?"
I then say yes, and I am confronted with the "If you have a custom recovery like TWRP or CWM, that can be used to (try to) install the SU binary ..."
I obviously dont have a custom recovery installed, and if i understand correctly, the boot.img in the cm10.zip folder, would be the recovery right? If so, i wold then choose normal, because i dont have custom recovery.
If the boot.img is not the custom recovery, what is then? how do i get it?
i tried to fastboot flash boot.img, once again now, after making it rain, but before running superSU, but still gave the error, that it could not write.
What am i doing wrong? am i missing steps here?

That's because you have to unlock your bootloader first. Please use the search function and read about the risks etc of unlocking your bootloader.

Or is the order wrong?

You can flash stock based roms without unlocking the bootloader. Aosp based roms need an unlocked bootloader. If a rom needs an unlocked bootloader it is mentioned in the description like this [ub].
To unlock your bootloader root is NOT required.
Is there no all on one guide for the xperia z that includes, root, unlocking, flashing, etc. Im a tad scared to use part of this tutorial, part of that , etc
Second version towelroot (no need to restart) me also caused problems with the update of binaries, so suggest you First version.

OK, SUCCESS !!
Thanks to all that pointed me in the right direction. I ended up doing the following.
Downloading the SDK,
Went to sony's developer site, got the boot unlock code for my IMEI, fastboot, blah blah
flash'ed CM10 boot.img
and then installed CM10 from zip.
I am playing with the phone as i type this, so it worked
Now, one more noobie question, and i will leave you guys alone (for awhile)
If i decide to install CM11, do i just copy the zip over to the SDCard, wipe wipe install? or do i need to fastboot boot flash with the CM11 boot.img?
Same goes for any other rom, just wipe wipe flash, or fastboot everytime?
Thanks again

[How to]: going from China ROM to a working, rooted international ROM (2016/06/20)

Hey guys,
I recently purchased a Mi5 in China and had a hellish experience trying to get a working rooted international ROM on it even though I am definitely not a noob at android. I found out that most issues I had were result of small/stupid mistakes that can be easily avoided with the proper knowledge, so I decided to write a super quick how to on the process for anyone that might need it in the future. There are similar guides out there, and I will refer to some (all credit goes to original posters) but I found that most are incomplete/not updated/plain wrong. Please also note that this guide is updated to June 20th, newer ROM versions might require different steps.
This how to assumes you are familiar with the standard ROM flashing process, in case anyone needs a more detailed explaination of some of the steps, you can reply or search XDA elsewhere, most of the stuff has been mentioned here and there before.
1. Check that your hardware is ok (dial *#*#64663#*#* in dialer, you will enter hardware test mode, check every single item carefully)
2. Request a bootloader unlock from Xiaomi, unlock the bootloader: follow instructions here http://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-5/how-to/unlocking-xiaomi-mi-5-bootloader-t3336243
3. Now that Your bootloader is unlocked, you have 3 main options for working ROMs: Xiaomi's Global Stable, Xiaomi's Global Dev, Xiaomi.eu's unofficial Stable. If you want to play it safe, I suggest to go with the Xiaomi's Global Stable, otherwise choose Xiaomi.eu's unofficial Stable. I did not test extensively all three, so this is just a general recommendation.
4. In any case, you will need to use the official Xiaomi's flashing tool (Miflash) to do your first ROM flash. Just follow the process here: http://en.miui.com/a-234.html and you'll have flashed your new ROM. In case you want to flash Xiaomi.eu's unofficial Stable, follow the same process but get the flashable ROM here: https://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/xiaomi-eu-multilang-rom-for-xiaomi-mi5-unlocked-bl-only-released.31231/
5. Boot into your newly flashed ROM, check once again that hardware is ok (see step 1.). Please also see step 10b for a tidbit of additional info if You're in China.
6. Reboot into bootloader, boot (only boot, no need to install) TWRP, which you can find here as part of Xiaomi.eu's thread above in step 4. inside a zip packaged with a modded bootloader image. do NOT install the modded bootloader image. Also, this is the only version of TWRP that I found working for my device. There are a couple more versions from chinese developers (cofface, ganfan), but booting either resulted in blank screen.
7. Once you are in TWRP, the recovery will ask you for a decryption password, just press cancel, then "Swipe to allow modifications"
8. Sideload (you cannot install from internal storage since you will not be able to access it at the moment) the latest SuperSU stable, which you can find here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053. Please note that you WILL need the latest version, anything earlier might just get you a bootloop. And please do NOT format /Data to make it accessible to TWRP as that will also likely result in bootloop. Just sideload whatever you need.
9. Do NOT wipe Dalvik or Cache, reboot into System.
10. Congrats, You're done. Have a beer/coffee/tea and pat yourself on the back.
10b. In case You're in China, and this is Your first Android 5.0+ ROM, you will happen into a "bug" (it's not really a bug, but a result of China's Great Firewall), where whenever you connect to a Wifi, the phone will think you have no internet access and that will cause a whole host of issues (won't reconnect automatically, will try to default to 4G etc.). If so, just enable ADB Debugging and type adb shell "settings put global captive_portal_server httpstat.us/204" . That will mostly solve it (you might still get some weird result with some APs, but toggling Wifi should solve the problem for that AP forever.

After it says booting, does the screen light up? If so please check wether "adb devices" and "fastboot devices" return anything. If adb returns "recovery" or if both return empty, you're likely bumping into my same issue where the recovery won't boot (to me this happened regardless of whether I flashed or booted it). Are you using the specific recovery version from my point 6?

no, nothing happens on the screen, it stays in fb mode without any reaction. adb and fb devices doesn't return any device connected.. if i do an fb reboot it told me "waiting for any device" so the only option to get it run again is to power off.. yes of course, it's the recovery.img with the modified boot.img..

i want only to inform you, i get it to work.. the problem was my rom, miui 8.. for miui 8 you will need a new version of twrp, which you can download here: https://yadi.sk/d/oj6Z-0u7sXdw6 after that, i was able to boot to the twrp recovery without flashing it, so i keept everything original like it was and was able to sideload the supersu and get root without to format my data.. when you start the recovery it came in chinese, but when you click on the right button you can choose your language.. that's it.. thank you for you support dude!!
Is it only way to switch from chinese ROM to official global ROM to have unlocked bootloader? If it is, is there any other way of unlocking it, waiting 15 days to get permission seems ridiculous.
Lovely step by step guide. But, any idea if it will wipe the user data and/or internal sdcard when moving from the chinese to international version?

Mi 8 - recovery bootloop, help!?

Have my Mi 8 about a week, loving it BUT as the bootloader is unlocked I couldn't use Google Pay so I decided to install TWRP and get the Xiaomi.eu ROM.
I just installed TWRP and tried backing up the phone, but I got an error saying it Can not create the folder. I reinstalled TWRP, thinking maybe there was an issue with the first install but now it's stuck in a recovery boot loop. It loads to the MI screen with the unlocked icon but doesn't get to the powered by android, it goes straight into recovery.
The Rom is not on the device and I thought maybe could install it through the recovery but if I have the phone plugged into the laptop (Windows 10) and go into recovery, the touch screen on the phone doesn't work and the phone keeps rebooting itself.
I can also get into Fastboot and the device is detected by miFlash.
What should I do next, I don't trust my instincts. Any advice would be much appreciated. I'm currently downloading the Global Rom off Xiaomi (going to take a while on my 3mb broadband) and hoping I can flash that with miFlash tool, good or bad idea??
U can use otg usb and put the rom on it.
Boot to twrp and wipe data (the one that ask you to say yes? Than install the rom(choose one for recovery flashing not fastboot)

Cheers for the reply! Unfortunately I don't have an adapter to put the rom on the phone. I'll order one now, always good to have for situations like this.
Any other way of getting the phone up and running sooner? If not, no problem, I'll just have to wait for the adapter.

Sure there must be a fastboot method but didn't tried it yet, i had this phone 3 days ago
Not sure if after formatting data and reboot to twrp you can copy the rom from pc to phone.
One more thing if you use fastboot method be sure not to relock the bootloader cause you may brick ur phone.
If you want to install xiaomi.eu rom dont just wipe data but you have to format data then type yes. Reboot to twrp again. And at twrp recopy the xiaomi.eu rom.

the only right answer, all other are more or less useless.
you need to wipe data, then format data (confirm with yes)
after that, hold power+up to reboot in twrp again
(or go to mainmenu and choose reboot to recovery),
connect your Mi8 with Usb cable to PC and copy the xiaomi.eu rom to your mi8
and then flash it.

Cheers for the advice, I'll make sure to format before installing. Only issue now is that I can't get the rom onto the phone to install it. Do you reckon if I format the data through TWRP it will then allow me to copy over the rom onto the device? Currently, unless in fastboot, the laptop doesn't recognise the device - constantly reboots the phone causing it to connect and disconnect.

I like the sound of this solution but I have a few questions/need clarification as this mess has made me doubt myself (no issue flashing my previous phone mi5)
I downloaded the Global rom from here: http://en.miui.com/download-346.html#523 (just want clarification this is the official rom) I have the latest version of the miFlash. Am I right in thinking, put phone into fastboot, launch tool, locate unzipped rom folder, select 'Clean all' (and not save user data / clean all and lock (presume this means bootloader)) and click Flash??
And then do I start again, flash TWRP and hope it works?

If I do this (wipe data and format) will the laptop detect the device to allow me to move the rom onto the phone, currently it doesn't (well it loops between connecting and disconnecting when in TWRP, no issue detecting in fastboot)
normally if twrp is launched, you can copy files as usual from pc to your Mi8
should be a stable connection.. (Win7/10 or any other Win)
if it keeps connecting/disconnecting you can try an other usb port.
do you use the right twrp ?
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-8/development/recovery-twrp-3-2-3-0-mi-8-t3837745
and you enabled usb debugging in settings before you flashed twrp ?
(I think without it will not work, even to flash twrp it is needed, so you did it)

after that, hold power+up to reboot in twrp again
(or go to mainmenu and choose reboot to recovery),
connect your Mi8 with Usb cable to PC and copy the xiaomi.eu rom to your mi8
and then flash it.

normally if twrp is launched, you can copy files as usual from pc to your Mi8
should be a stable connection.. (Win7/10 or any other Win)
if it keeps connecting/disconnecting you can try an other usb port.
do you use the right twrp ?
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-8/development/recovery-twrp-3-2-3-0-mi-8-t3837745
and you enabled usb debugging in settings before you flashed twrp ?
(I think without it will not work, even to flash twrp it is needed, so you did it)

I've tried several USB ports and different cables, no luck getting it to connect.
No the TWRP installed is 3.2.1-0611-XIAOMI8, yours uses the code name and seems to be a newer version and more legit, I'm going to flash that onto the phone. I presume do it the way I did it before - fastboot, shift right click to get to cmd line...etc.
I did indeed enable usb debugging when I installed it originally.
By the way, thanks so much for your help, I'm lost without my phone - it was love at first sight
Fastboot Flashing Code
Code:
Fastboot boot Twrp.img
Flash the recovery img again inside twrp and reboot to recovery again and it will stay.
If u are new to twrp, format data in twrp and reboot to recovery again and flash this file https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=3700668719832238534 after that u can flash the rom.
If u have already twrp installed, just flash the img in twrp

Actually I'm confused now, is this probably where I went wrong in the first place.
Boot the TWRP img and then flash it through TWRP, I've never done it this way before (have I been doing this worng all along?)
and whats the other file about? Disable_Dm-Verity_FEC_v1.1.zip
Sorry about all the questions
you can flash/update twrp inside twrp itself, but you dont need it.
I never used any tools or bat files, just normally installed adb,
and put the twrp.img in the same folder.
then open cmd:
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
to boot into twrp again:
fastboot boot twrp.img
never heard from this fec1.1 zip, so ignore it.
you should go to the xiaomi.eu forum for help,
https://xiaomi.eu/community/threads...ing-xiaomi-eu-8-8-30.46378/page-2#post-444327
there are the steps posted what to do

Right, so I got TWRP 3.2.3 installed and seems to be working (not disconnecting and reconnecting) BUT the phone is still not recognsed - It says unspecified in the devices . I ran through the ADB set up, all installed including drivers but still no phone showing up. I hate windows 10 and drivers, can't get them to play nice (or it's me)
I had never any problems with Win10 x64,
I dnever installed any driver for my Mi5/6 and now 8,
win10 detects everything automatically, if you have installed any driver, maybe just
uninstall them and restart win10

AND WE'RE IN!!! THANK YOU, THANK YOU!! If you were here I'd hug you and get you a drink.
Forget my above nonsense and babble, PC wasn't happy with whatever was going on, once I got brave enough and actually followed your instructions in all fell into place!!
So conclusion -
I had the wrong TWRP (3.2.3 is needed)
PC didn't like whatever was happening without the OS
Wiped and formatted through TWRP - Phone was recognised
Dragged Xiaomi.eu rom over - copied perfectly
Flashed rom - successful and the wiped cache again to be safe
Rebooted and my smile came back the moment I saw the 'powered by android' icon
Went through set up and I'm back in.
Mi 8 - bootloop and locked device, no system, help?
Hi guys,
I did a pretty much bad thing on my phone, I've just bought it 2 weeks ago and I was loving the phone, my phone is unlocked but today I was rooting to install google camera with night sight and I don't know why my twpr was really weird, when pressing install all the folder that was showing was very different from youtube videos about mi 8 root and even compared to my old devices, it was showing folders like licence and others, but the weirdest was inside the sdcard folder that was showing a lot of unnamed folders(like this: 54u3hu6ijj4!ji5), the thing got worse when I've flashed magisk and the phone got stuck on bootloop, after that tried to flash a stock global rom from official Mi website on fastboot mode using Mi Flash Toll, what I did wrong is that I didn't see that the Lock option was ticked and than I pressed to flash, everything was going good when my device showed a message saying that the Miui wasn't compatible with my phone. After that I've tried to install TWPR again but my phone was locked by the Mi flash toll and know my device is without system and unlocked. I've also tried to unlock but is saying that my account is not bound to my device, so I have no idea what to do, I'm gonna never root any phone ever, worse thing I did.
Can Anybody know what I can do to unlock the phone?
Sorry about my English, that's not my native language.

TWRP asking for password for Decrypt Data on (8.1) international global rom

Hello guys,
just wanna asking again,.. I was going to flash magisk on red magic. I already succeed in flashing the TWRP. But, unfortunately, the TWRP was asking for a password to Decrypt Data...
Does anyone know the solution for this?
I already try to put pin on android and use it on TWRP still no luck here. Is there is a way to decrypt the phone from the system itself??
any suggestions will be great :fingers-crossed:

Flash official recovery from twrp website. If I remember right it will work. But change language to English
If you haven't already find solution you must do factory reset through twrp option to unlock it ,of course this action will wipe all your data.

1. You need to go in boot-loader mode: VOL DOWN and POWER - preferable from power off state and when logo appear release buttons.
2. unlock boot-loader (every time is needed if you want to modify recovery or anything else)
3. install original international recovery: http://www.mediafire.com/file/s3dyqlhsytsflpd/recovery-114.img/file
4. restart in RECOVERY...now you see original recovery : choose English and go and wipe USER DATA (!!!!!!IT WILL ERASE EVERYTHING, ANY IMG< MP# < EVERYTHING FROM INTERNAL MEMORY and DECRYPT IT !!!!!),
erase also cache!!!!!
5. Power OFF
6. Unlock boot-loader (yes, again!)
7. install TWRP 3.3.1 : http://www.mediafire.com/file/nsu9nr0pdknruxw/recovery-331.img/file
8. Boot into TWRP Recovery
9. now install "Disable_Dm-Verity_ForceEncrypt_02.04.2019.zip" : http://www.mediafire.com/file/hquo5qjoi45hy9c/Disable_Dm-Verity_ForceEncrypt_02.04.2019.zip/file
In this way you will decrypt your phone and prevent to encrypt it again on reboot. If you don't Disable verity and force encrypt phone will re-encrypt itself on reboot because Vendor partition contain settings to encrypt data. There is a chance that after step 8 you will need to reinstall original international ROM ver. 114 and immediately after that the "Disable_Dm-Verity_ForceEncrypt_02.04.2019.zip"
After reboot successfully (and no encrypting data) go back to TWRP and flash the last magisk.

Does the songs are getting played into the gsi? Treble GSI have issues like overheating and no sound while playing music. Means no ringtones either. I had put logs for phh but he didn't worked as he is busy. As all gsi uses phh base and fixes, the issues are same across the gsi.
Plus- in pie Chinese vendor the treble support is gone. So no more treble in pie update. Only we have legacy support on 8.1.
I had tried to work onto updating Omni but my motherboard went down. It got burnt. You know how to cook ROMs right ! Why don't you try?
Plus the latest gsi no longer boot idk the reasons with the July updates. Reply to me I am trying to donate a device to anyone who can work on this phone

There are logs on phh thread about sound and other issues on gsi. Take a look if you have any knowledge. You don't need to take logs again I guess. But new GSI don't even boot last time this month when I checked. Maybe I was wrong.
It's just my point of view. You should try to bring up lineageOs with Omni sources coz lot of developers are there to help you if you have knowledge. The device tress are there from Omni. Well 8.1 is still there as lineageOs is still updating and giving security fixes. And most of commits are there for ok our phones in Omni GitHub.

Hello, me again...
I'm trying to do the method that you've explained...
there's a new problem... right now, already try to connect my phone to USB on pc, it always says "USB supplying power on attached device" even for fastboot mode it doesn't work the computer still not recognize anything.. already tried different computer, already tried different cables too... no luck...
Now, I can go to emergency recovery with stock nicely but cannot go to the usual recovery cuz i already installed twrp but the phone itself is encrypted device so nothing to do there, I'm thinking about wiping userdata from emergency recovery,... is it okay to do this? cuz maybe I'm thinking after I wiping the userdata and everything I can get my USB connection again (cuz before i've had similar issue but after install new rom it's working nicely almost with every cable),... what do u guys think? thanks in advance

Well, if you are encrypted you will need to uncrypt your phone.
!!!!!!!But you will lose everithing saved in internal memory!!!!!!!!
Just follow steps 1 to 8 from my previous guide. Then you can reinstall the ROM. If you will install International ROM you will get encrypted again if you don't run Disable_Dm-Verity_ForceEncrypt_02.04.2019.zip right after installing ROM in TWRP!!!!!!!
Wiping everything with original recovery is the best way to clear your phone!!! sometimes is mandatory this, even with advanced wipe in TWRP you wont achieve what you can with original recovery wipe!
Back to report...
Already finished all the things need to be done... and ABM30 method is working nicely.... now, I can enjoy all the root goodness in my red magic with original global rom.
really this is what I'm looking for... Thanks a lot.
Ps: just wanna share for the USB to pc connectivity problems: what I did was connect it on fastboot mode, and do fastboot command for unlocking your red magic.... wait around 5 min, unplug it if nothing happens, plug it again and wait again (until many times), after that you will see your fastboot command from wait mode into something successful... (i dunno why).
and then do reflash the recovery...
for the resurrection remix, I will try it and post it on new thread.... seems interesting

well it doesn't work. It's a part of kernel I guess. There are no sounds from loudspeaker. and there are huge issues with pie in phh treble. He needs logs for that. Hello sir, I followed each and every step, but device ended up in bootloop. Mostly a soft brick. Every time I power on the device, the logo comes and phone turns off.
I even tried to patch the fstab in /vendor/etc. Same results.
By the way, I could not get the V114 stock global rom which you have mentioned but was able to get V109 stock global rom. If you have the link of the stock rom you mentioned, please provide a link for it. I will just revert back to stock and use it that way. Seems like the device doesn't wants to have an unlocked bootloader and a uncrypted data state ?

I'm facing issues with this. I followed every step as mentioned by ABM30. But the device in now on bootloop. Infact, I do have the twrp as recovery but device state is locked and the system isnt booting up. Help please

you mean twrp mentioned that your device is locked?

How to reset firmware

so i've tried a few roms, and couldn't get gpay working. im going to try a few things mentioned in other threads, but before i start that. i want to properly/fully reset my phone to the stock, to hopefully make sure i don't mess anything up in the future.
my first issue was installing twrp, i tried to `fastboot flash` the recovery, but nothing worked until i followed these steps: https://www.getdroidtips.com/download-and-install-twrp-recovery-for-redmi-k20-pro-latest/
im worried about what might be in the misc.bin in that zip. cuz i couldn't reboot into twrp recovery until i flashed that. does anyone know what that is? i think i just want to flash/reset? everything on my phone back to miui, make sure i update to the latest firmware etc. but, tbh, i find navigating xda difficult and can't seem to find the official firmware anywhere, or steps on how to reset the phone...
thanks for any help
Um, i think ur in the wrong category

The misc.bin file is basically just a script that tells the Device to directly boot into TWRP, because Xiaomi Devices / MIUI are configured to overwrite TWRP after a reboot. If you still feel uncomfortable having to flash the misc file, try "fastboot *BOOT* TWRP.img" instead of "fastboot *FLASH* TWRP.img".
If you wish to keep MIUI installed instead of an Custom ROM make sure to flash Magisk, as it patches the DM-Verity stuff that causes the Device to either get stuck in a Bootloop or replace TWRP with the Stock Recovery.
If you're planning to run an Custom ROM like LineageOS, AOSiP etc. you don't have to flash Magisk as long as your Device isn't encrypted. Rebooting from TWRP to System without flashing Magisk on an encrypted Device will encrypt your Data Partition and you'll have to format Data to be able to access the Internal Storage again. (Flashing Magisk in that case will prevent your Device from encrypting all your Data again after an ROM Flash.)

k thanks for the info. what's the difference b/w the boot v flash for twrp?
is the misc.bin from that link i posted safe then? where did it come from? is there a thread here where files like that are posted/talked about?
i definitely plan to stick with either lineage or Pixel experience. i just want to get google pay going. so i think my next attempt will be to relflash magisk and look into that sql fix everyone mentions

If you're planning to go back to stock MIUI and locked bootloader, I highly recommend using Mi Flash and flashing the original fastboot MIUI ROM which can be found here https://www.xda-developers.com/download-miui-11-xiaomi-redmi-note-7-pro-poco-f1/amp/. All you gotta to do is extract the ROM file which is .tgz to any folder, and in Mi Flash select that folder click on "clean all and lock" in the bottom right corner, and click flash. This should theoretically make your device "out of the box".
Keep in mind that this method requires a PC with all ADB and fastboot drivers, they can be downloaded from here https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588979 .

BOOT will just let the Device temporarily boot into the Recovery (without making changes to the Recovery Partition) FLASH will write the Recovery Image to the Recovery Partition so you can boot to it whenever you want / need to.
I don't know if there's any kind of threads where certain files are talked about sorry, but I could be wrong though.
I don't know much about G Pay, I was gonna try it too but my Bank doesn't support it. I've seen quite a few people reporting success in getting it to work / making payments with it in local stores with the mentioned SQL Fix so if you're lucky it'll work for you too
