Amazon Alexa on the Moto X4? - Moto X4 Questions & Answers

My objective is to enable this reported feature on my new Moto X4. Motorola help says "Simply open the Moto Alexa app and sign into your Amazon account. Then, train your device using the voice prompts provided. Now say "Alexa" even when the phone is locked and Alexa will activate! Easy!"
NOTso easy so far, as there is no "Moto Alexa" app in the play store. Further, there is a "Moto" App on the X4 that contains "Moto Actions" and Moto Display" but no "Moto Alexa". Any help in this area would be appreciated.

Did you try just downloading Alexa from the Play Store?

Where did you buy the phone from? The Android one or Fi version will not have alexa working only google assistant.

Adding the Alexa App does nothing to enable "Alexa Functionality" in the Moto X4. I did purchase vua Project Fi/Google. I was hoping that the embedded Alexa Functionality in the European Version of the Moto X4 could be enabled/ and used in the USA. I have no use for Google's voice assistants.

The Android One version announced that it would not come with the Moto Alexa or Moto Voice.

I have a similar problem. I'd like to enable voice control for the native camera app. The Motorola website seems to indicate that the Moto App has a Voice controls section but mine does not. Google assistant will respond to voice commands to open the camera but will not "take a photo" or "take a selfie." Surprising that Project Fi seems to have disabled camera voice commands in their version.

Moto X, Pure Androïd ?

Hi,
I have notice two things different from Nexus :
- Preinstalled calendar app is not the Google native calendar that we can found in Play Store. ( but it's easy to do the replacement ).
- Native E-Mail app from play store is not compatible with new Moto X : this one is annoying...
Did someone notice it ?
Edit : ok, just contacted Moto Support because the Play Store is telling me E-Mail app not compatible with new Moto X.
They should contact me later to give me answer.

I thought other than the special Moto features (e.g. Moto Voice) it was stock android. So it has it's own Moto email and calendar apps?
Is is stock android e-mail app. But for an unknown reason you can't update it with the version from play store.
I have asked support about this and i'm still waiting for an answer.

[Q] Google Voice vs Moto Voice

This is rather petty...
I used the original X for a while and loved the touch less control, but always hated the marginally but noticeably longer wait for the spoken request to be inputted into the google search app. The google hotword detection (within the google app) was not compatible. I am considering buying the New X and was wondering if anyone knew of a way to use the default google voice search without using moto voice?
You have to choose one or the other, unfortunately.

[Q] Google Now instead of Moto Voice?

How is Google now for this? I read about moto voice...but what if I want to use strictly Google now, is this possible? Also, while the phone is locked/screen off is it possible to say 'okay google' and have it activate?

With the exception of actual Moto Assist commands everything is pipped over to Google Now.
So if I use my activation phrase and say a Moto command such as: "What's up" that will stay on the phone and tell me about appointments and messages that I received. However if I say something outside of the listed commands like: "how far is the moon away from the Earth" it will tell me that it's opening Google and I will get the answer from Google.
As for using the standard "okay Google". I tried setting that up as my phrase. The phone complained that there wasn't enough syllables. So I just went with the suggested: Okay Google Now.
And yes, it works with the screen off. I've had it mostly work even while in my coat. Though it wasn't 100%. But to it's credit. I have a pretty thick leather coat and the phone screen is always facing me.
Also a drawback (for me at least) is sometimes I don't hear the little chime that lets me know that it's waiting for a command. So I end up saying the phrase twice thinking that it didn't hear me and then I will hear that it's searching Google.
I think it uses Google Now API
It sure seems to me that moto voice is actually using google now. I installed bluetooth launch (but didn't need to use it, other than to remove Voice Dialer as the default bluetooth button launch). Then when pushing the bluetooth button I could launch my choice of Moto Voice or Google Now. The Ok Google does work with this phone. But Moto Voice lets you change the phrase. Moto Voice will simply launch Google Now when any question you ask is a search.
The problem with Moto Voice is that it is much, much slower than just going to Google Now to begin with. I'm hoping that Motorola will kill off Moto Voice with the Android 5.0 update and simply use Google Now directly.

Moto Voice / Google Now

Hello , i have Moto X 2013 (xt 1058), but i am not sure if the Marshmallow have the option of Call the Phone with screen OFF. I have the Experience Rom and i cant use Google Now outside the Google Now app =/
Anyone know if there is any rom with it ? Or is only 5.1.1 ?
Moto Voice tends to be the only one that works all the time that way (stock 5.1), but you can actually use Google Voice in other ways. You have to enable the Use OK Google on other screens option. If you have the phone charging, you can also use it when the screen is off. It's not as reliable as Moto Voice was (I think just because SW vs FW, ie Moto Voice was also plugged into the phone on a deeper level). Some launchers (like Nova) will allow you to use it on the launcher as well, but I think you would only really need that one option (check for it in the Google App settings).
But yeah, haven't found a general way for screen off Voice Commands yet :/

Moto x4 (fi version) where are voice controls, especially for camera?

Looking for a way to enable voice control for the default camera app that comes with the moto x4. I'd like to be able to say "capture" or "cheese" or whatever, and take a photo. The Motorola web site seems to indicate there are controls for this for the x4 on the Moto App. But my Moto app has no Voice option. Any ideas? Is this disabled on the project fi version?
