Just to put to rest the rumor that the hardware is different, here is a picture of the SIM/SD slot on my N950N (Korean single SIM model), which you can clearly see both SIM slot pins, as well as the SD pins.
Mind you the single SIM models only come with one IMEI so I have no idea if you can use one for a dual SIM setup, but the hardware most certainly is the same.
Also, bonus pic showing that this part is apparently labeled for an N95OU which is the north American Snapdragon model. Must be sharing quite a few parts even with those ones eh?
Hi Kalm_Traveler,
I buy a N95OU1 north American Snapdragon model. I buy a dual SIM tray in Amazon. How can I make the 2 SIMs works? It's possible?

That's the thing, as Kalm_Traveler is pointing out, you only have one IMEI. Dual sim phones have 2 IMEIs. How would you obtain a second IMEI to use to use legally? And you would need root access to configure it to work even if you did happen to have a second IMEI to use.

I legally own 3 old phones (Blackberry & other model) where I could easily get valid and, again, perfectly legal IMEI's;
so besides the legal concern, which does not apply in this case, it would be interesting to know if it's possible (or will be) to root the phone and enable somehow its dual sim capability having a 2nd IMEI (owned and legal) available to set up.
If the hardware is really the same we have just to wait, maybe

On my Note8 monosim brand HUI Italia and rebrand Vodafone Italia in build.prop have already line ro.multisim.simslotcount=2 but not have any menu for dualsim. My phone not have root access.
To make the menus appear, do you need the dualsim cart?

On my N950U1 (Snapdragon US Samsung unlocked, non-dual SIM), using Shortcut Master app, I found the working dual sim menu. See attached ss.
So also SD Notes could be dual sim capable.

Can you please tell me how to do it? I own the sm-n950f single sim European version.
1. Install Shortcut Master (lite) from Google Play.
2. Select 'app explorer' from menu.
Select 'system apps' from pull down list.
3. Scroll down to and select
'Mobile networks' (com.samsung.networkui),
4. Scroll down to and select
'MobileNetworkSettingsTab' (com.samsung.networkui.MobileNetworkSettingsTab)
5. Press 'Launch'
I have not been able to actually test whether 2nd slot works, as I am waiting on delivery of dual-SIM tray...
I don't think it has the software to work - you would need to have some way to add Stk2, and more importantly the libsec-ril-dsds.so libraries.
Your probably right, but will see what happens when $3 tray arrives ...

Thank you so much for your help! Did you flash the dual sim rom yet ? I have also read at the forum that it actually works but we need to change some files with the similar of the dual version. (https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-8/help/galaxy-note-8-n950f-modding-dual-sim-t3685255) May i ask where did you get the dual sim tray from? Here in Greece it's unavailable. Thanks again and i hope everything goes well!
I did not flash anything yet... As I have SD, will /can not root easily..
Just search 'SIM tray Note 8' on Ebay...
Ok i have already subscribed to this subject so if you receive the tray and you make the dual sim work please write something here so that I will try it also to my device. (please forgive my English)
Thanks again for your support and best wishes to you for 2018!
wonder if you can just flash the duos firmware without root if you have the OEM unlock option available and get a dual sim tray?

same on my unlocked exynos model
ok, scratch my first question, firmware is the same for both Single and Duos anyway.
I have a second dual sim tray coming in the post and also have an old Samsung phone I can use imei number from to be legit so will take it from there, once I set up my dual sim I don't think I'll mind rooting this single sim as you still get OTA as long as you don't install custom Rom
just did a quick check here in case it helps anyone...
took the tray out of my dual sim to stick into my single sim Note, dual tray won't go in unless I put a sim into slot one so did that with an old inactive one and put my own sim into tray 2, rebooted just for the sake of it, can still make and take calls etc... but looking at sim info in settings... about phone... it showed sim as inactive and no mac address, I'll try with 2 active Sims when I get my hands on one over the next days.
Hopefully any small info gathered can help determine how easy/hard it will be to get dual sim out of single sim
@Kalm_Traveler looks like you'll need to add dual sim capabilities to your zip once you get wifi calling working xD
On the N950F, could it perhaps be as simple as installing a dual SIM tray and then flashing the N950FD firmware? Or just editing some files on the current firmware.
Maybe the second IMEI will come from the hardware?

I have one sim that I wish to use for phones / text messages, and one that I wish to use for mobile data.
If I put either sim in on its own, it works fine.
If I put both in together, and set them so they are both on, the one that I wish to use for phone calls and texts does not register on its network (which is Three in the UK)
I am not sure what to do. Can the phone company have set it so it doesn't work in a dual sim setting?
Or have I just failed to understand what dual sim is?
Any help much appreciated!

Try interchanging the SIM, I mean just enter the right one on the left and the left one on the right. What you are saying shouldn't happen.
If possible try another 2 SIM to see if the problem is with the SIM or the phone.

OK thanks. I have tried it with another 2 sims and it works fine. So that means it's a faulty sim?
Is it possible the network won't allow dual sim, or should I just request a replacement?
Thanks

Before requesting a replacement just ask the network operator of that particular SIM that if they disallow Dual-SIM or not. If they don't allow using their SIM on a dula-sim mobile asking for a replacement would be pointless.
I am using 3 (UK) and Vodafone, no issues, so likely the sim

Hey guys,
This is sort of an odd question but I thought it would be worth asking anyway.
I recently bought this phone but then realised it's the single SIM variant. At the time of purchase I didn't appreciate there were two versions. I mean, even the manual says you can put a second SIM instead of the memory card.
Anyway as you can imagine this is very annoying because the shop won't take the phone back "just because". So I looked on eBay and I can buy the dual SIM variant SIM tray.
Do you think I can just replace the single SIM tray with the dual SIM tray and use two SIM cards like a champ? I guess the OS wouldn't recognise the second SIM, would it?
I'd be grateful if someone could shed some light on this issue and let me know what my options are (if any).
Cheers
I mean that is impossible, but you can try to ask a question to Nokia support, maybe

I think it's not possible, dual sims are being flashed with a different firmware version from HMD. Let us know.
Differeent rom flashed? Ok but then this must be because of the second imei that got to be written somewhere in a flash partition. Would the Android os-code be really that different?
I think it would not be possible not because of the different firmware or missing imei2 but because of a possibly missing sim2 slot connection
Check attached pictures of the different sim trays attached and an inside view of the sim slot!

The second IMEI exists!
Trying to type the code *#06# I've found two IMEI number for my TA-1004.
In Settings -> Network menĂ¹, there is SIM Cards section
The only test to do is to buy the dual sim tray and check if it works.

OP has single sim TA-1012.....
Hello everyone. So i bought a used Moto g6 3gb variant from market last night. So far good experience with the phone so far except one thing.
It was sold to me from dealer saying its a single sim variant but when i came back home it had 2 sims + card options in the tray so i've searched the IMEI on various sites and turns out its a XT1925-2 so it is indeed a dual sim variant.
But when i put *#06# on Dialer it just shows me 1 IMEI number instead of 2? How is this possible?
I could be mixing this up, but I thought the IMEI is based on the device and not the SIM, so a dual SIM device would still have just one IMEI?

Dual-SIM devices are supposed to have two IMEIs. You can't have two SIMs on one IMEI. Avoids problems.
Anyone? Why my cellphone has 2 sim options when theres only 1 IMEI? Is this the work of gypsies? xDDD
Could be that the phone was originally single sim but then flashed with dual sim firmware and had the tray replaced with a dual sim tray. I'm actually waiting on my dual sim tray to do the same on my xperia xz2
SIM TRAY
You can find both imeis on SIM TRAY.
I bought Galaxy S9 plus with dual sim G965FD, and it has same identical imei numbers for both sim slots. I am confused how? Both sim cards are working fine.
I'm having the same issue on my moto g4 after flashing the stock rom usually whenever I flashed the stock rom earlier my imei's turned down to 0 but this time only one imei is showing and even in the settings I'm getting one sim please help
Not the same phone, but I owned two Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 (broke the first one after a month...). The first one had different IMEI for each slot. The 2nd one had the same IMEI for each slot. Despite the oddity, I have not run into any issue by using two SIMs in the last 3 years.

please send me imei in a private message. i know a way to find correct details through imei.
too late but maybe is not original phone but chainaillegal copy on mediatek
well after all, imei is more like just an identification of your device for the antennas, so there should be no problem it is as if you just swap your sim card every time you want to use one or the other number, so I dont think there should be any problem using a single IMEI
Hello,
Am new user of note 8 N950F.
At my last phone, i was using 2 sim cards. Now i see that N950F support only 1 sim card and 1 memory card
Is there any way that i can use 2 sim cards in n950f?
Thank You!
I don't think that is possible for the N950F. As it is designed to as a single SIM device.
Sorry!

Strange how there's 2 sim toolkits running still.
I'm ok with pie but oreo starting to sound better.

Depending on where your device originates from you may stil have call recording after you hae installed Pie onto your device. I installed Pie onto my N950N and I still have Call Recording on it.
if you device comes with the hybrid simcard tray, you can either use dual sim & no SD Card, or 1 sim and 1 SD Card.
Back on oreo you can buy those adapters to use 2 simcards and 1 SD card simultaneously but on Pie (One UI) samsung decided to block it.. so you can either use Dual Sim & No Sd Card or 1 sim & 1 SD Card.
I hated this.. so i went out to installed a pre-rooted custom rom as close to stock i can find, which the ROM maker edited it to accept the dual sim & 1 sdcard mod. I lost my knox and samsung pay, bt got samsung pay to work on my samsung gear sport instead. dont misunderstand me, spay still doesnt work on the phone but can work on gear sport if you hide the spay related packages via magisk hide.
Secure folders dont work anymore unfortunately. it was my favourite to "hide" apps and a seperate and secure photo gallery..
as for call recording, google decided to kill off 3rd party call recording (yes, google not samsung did it).. BUT since android has native call recording, and is activated via CSC, and having a rom that is pre-rooted, i went ahead and activated call recording.. and enabled camera shutter sound option (to enable the option to switch off camera shutter sound in camera app)
so, if you do not mind loosing knox and knox related features, go get yourself a custom rom. (i personally went for Dr Ketan's ROM)
Thank you!
This sound good because andorid version on my phone is 8.0.0 and smasung experience version is 9.0

You are right!
Don't think you can truly convert a single sim phone (SM-N950F) into a true dual sim phone (SM-N950F/DS).
Because I think you'll need 2 IMEI's numbers while the SM-N950F has only one IMEI number. So that is probably the only choice is to switch between the sims.
I deleted my first post because that was more for the dual sim phone and not for the single sim phone. Sorry for the confusion on that!
Hopefully someone has figured something out for the single sim phone to use 2 sims at once (1 active and 1 in standby mode)!
Wish the OP luck on figuring this out!
Ohhh, on sime per time. Is same as single sim
I will continue use my single sim note 8
yes, this isn't a dual sim this way. In my opinion is dual sim constantly have 2 number available.
Like the SM-N950FD
I have a Rogers S21 Ultra and want to enable the Dual SIM mode so I can keep my canadian number alive and also have a German SIM active while traveling in Europe. Is it possible, or is there a hardware lock? I should add that I already have the DUAL Sim tray that allows 2 sims to be inserted into the SIM slot.
Just put in a second sim (e.g. from friend) and you know...
im guessing you are talking about Esim? as the canadian s21 ultra is only single physical sim?

I have my German Sim in the second slot, but the phone doesn't recognize it. Hence my question in this forum if there is a hardware lock or if some sort of software hack is needed to enable the second sim.

Try to switch position of the SIM's in the phone.
European models support dual SIM straight out of the box, don't know about Canadian S21. Is Snapdragon version, right?
You could check whether you can get to the (hidden in your phone?) proces 'SimCardMgrActivity' with Shortcut Manager Lite app.
Canadian model doesn't support dual physical SIM, just one physical SIM and one eSIM.

Thanks. Unfortunately this 'SimCardMgrActivity' only offers to add an Esim, not a real 2nd sim.
